And regarding stats from other campaigns, could you possibly work with an existing campaign manager for another popular signature campaign to get their user data to plug in for data mining and analysis?

This spreadsheet from my Merit Data from 315 Bitcoin Paying Signature Campaign Participants thread has the merit values of almost all Bitcoin paying campaigns, if that's what you're looking for. It's not automatically updated though. If another manager wants live data similar to what I have for ChipMixer, I'd be happy to help them get it set up.

Ah, I missed that thread. That's exactly what I was looking for.

This merit system has amazed me at the level of detail that went into it. As more and more time goes by, the more I continue to favor the system. I'm hoping that data like what you're collecting can eventually help shape signature campaigns into utilizing more merit-based requirements rather than solely member rank.

I'm going to check out the data that you've collected and see if there are any major differences between Bitcoin sig campaigns vs. altcoin sig campaigns.

Again, thanks for doing this. I'm completely geeking out atm lol
662  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Microsoft Office 365 LIFETIME Account 15 Devices! Unlimited Storage + MORE on: March 04, 2018, 03:21:29 AM
My review for johntrichfield and this product is as follows:

I was given credentials to a Microsoft Office 365 account on March 3, 2018. The credentials were pre-designated, and I was given an email address (I do not have access to this email address Edit: I do have access to this email address; I was able to successfully sweep it into Microsoft Outlook with my credentials) and a password to access the subscription.

Because I already had Microsoft Office 2016 installed on my computer (2017 MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra), I did not need to download any of the applications. My existing subscription had expired a few weeks ago, so I was not sure if I would be able to simply enter the new credentials to resume access to the suite. Here is the message that Microsoft Word was displaying whenever I opened up any .doc file:

I clicked "Activate" and entered the email and password that johntrichfield provided me with:

Upon my surprise, it prompted me to enter a new password. The account was freshly created and had never been used before:

I checked the About Microsoft Word dialogue, and as you can see, the product is indeed validly registered to the username that OP has provided me with:

Needless to say, updating all of the applications in the Microsoft Office Suite was a breeze. I followed the Microsoft AutoUpdate prompt and was able to download and install updates for all of the applications that needed them:

As you can see, the default name that displays after opening up the applications was pre-designated as "Chris Green".

I attempted to visit https://office365.com and login using my credentials, which I was successfully able to do, but when trying to update my profile, the option to edit the contact name was not there. Instead, there was a message that displayed as follows:

All in all, for the price that OP is offering, it's well worth it. This is not a shared account; you will receive your own individual account. I have only installed this on my primary computer, but I can have up to 5 computers, 5 tablets and 5 phones logged in. It clearly shows that this subscription is not being used or shared with anyone else:

I will say that all is to be as expected and described by OP, but I do not know when this account will expire, nor can I find the expiration date in any of my account settings. Either way, I will update this thread at least monthly as long as OP is actively selling these subscriptions. I will also update the thread (or message OP privately to update the thread himself) if the subscription stops working, and how long that it lasted at the time of expiry.

Since this thread seems to be getting some attention, I'm going to post some of the topics posted about YoBit being a scam, so that more users are aware. Just as a reference, just because you haven't had any bad experiences with this exchange should not make it any more reputable or trustworthy. I truly believe that it is just a matter of time before the collapse of this exchange.

I could go on and on and on. But DYOR and don't become one of those unlucky people that gets targeted by this shitty exchange. I'm one of them, and I've still got thousands of dollars worth of crypto stuck in an account that I've been trying to access for over a year.
What happened to your account in where you are not able to access your funds?
As far as I know they don't have any verification process for their customers.

I'm still not able to access those funds, or my account for that matter, and the last message that I have from YoBit is from November 25, 2016. I've sent 8 replies since then, the last one being on June 9, 2017. I still have not received an reply, and I'm definitely not hopeful Roll Eyes

I'm curious to see current stats for the Altcoin sections as in relation to when you started this a few weeks ago.

And regarding stats from other campaigns, could you possibly work with an existing campaign manager for another popular signature campaign to get their user data to plug in for data mining and analysis?

It'd be interesting to see if this format and data mining can be applied towards other sections of the forums, as well. I know everyone hates Local Boards, but I'm curious to see how much merit/sMerit is actualy being distributed on those boards, as well. Possibly the more popular boards like Russia or the Philippines. Is it easy to scrape this data?

Can I join?  Grin (jkjk, though technically my ChipMixer sig is unpaid)

I'll sponsor an additional 10 merits for the first place winner.

Your signature is part of a paid campaign, even though you don't get paid for your actual sig Cheesy

Are you sponsoring 10 merits to be given out individually each week until they're all given out, or are you sponsoring 10 merits every week? Or will this be a one-time deal for the first week?

I need specifics. SPECIFICS!!!!

Thanks for doing this, @DarkStar_. I don't care what anyone says about you; I fink you freeky and I like you a lot.
666  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Help: Whats the best way to get BTC for Dollars in NYC on: March 04, 2018, 12:54:27 AM
Don't use Coinbase as a wallet service. When looking for a bitcoin wallet, ALWAYS go with a wallet that allows you to hold onto and keep your own private keys.

For a hot wallet, I personally use GreenAddress (https://greenaddress.it/en/), as it is a SegWit-enabled wallet. This just means cheaper fees because of reduced transaction sizes. And it's fairly easy to set up and use on any device that you own. Just make sure to document and store your private key. If you lose it, you'll be shit out of luck when it comes to recovery.

Feel free to PM me or post here if you have any additional questions.
667  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Microsoft Office 365 LIFETIME Account 15 Devices! Unlimited Storage + MORE on: March 04, 2018, 12:39:28 AM
Can you offer a vouch account for me? I've been burned before with accounts that ended up being part of a carded account. Can you reveal how valid your accounts are if they're not hacked or carded?

And when you say LIFETIME, will you replace the account if it ever stops working? Otherwise, how long will these accounts be valid for? My experiences on the forums is that "Lifetime" is never a lifetime... Hell, they're never even more than a couple of weeks, if that.

I have a Mac with existing Microsoft apps on it. My license expired a few weeks ago, and I never had the need to renew my subscription. I'm willing to vouch for you if I'm able to login to the account that you provide with my existing software (shouldn't be a problem as the credential check is done upon login from the splash screen after launching the app).

Please let me know. Thanks!

669  Other / Meta / Re: [SCAM PREVENTION]Remove self-moderation for topics within the marketplace! on: March 04, 2018, 12:11:06 AM
This subject has been discussed to eternity. On the off chance that you think somebody is misleading or doing fishy stuff , make a post about it in the scam accusation board, or leave frickin neg trust. Just don't believe any individual who makes self moderated threat with suspicious reason or other shady shit .What making a self moderated thread stays in this forum is different perception of people , so it might be normal to be skeptical just like us

Really, newbie? It's been discussed to eternity? You've been a member of the forums for less than a year, hardly an eternity Cheesy

But I think that this point is raised constantly because there hasn't been a valid solution that has been implemented. And until theymos or Cyrus answer in any of these topics with a definitive answer, they will continue to be asked. Additionally, requiring a member to check the Scam Accusations thread before purchasing anything and trying to navigate it to find a relevant post with the possibility that their seller will have a thread? HORRIBLE user flow, and highly ineffective. Which is why posts like this keep popping up.
670  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: March 04, 2018, 12:06:51 AM
Edit: When you accept USD for example, you do not pay the capital gains on whatever increase in value the USD may experience before you exchange it back to CAD; unless you are a financial investment company. At least, this is how I understand it and have seen many people operate this way.

Without googling the answer, I believe this to be incorrect, as both USD and CAD are deemed currencies by both nations. At the most, you'll pay an exchange fee imposed by your bank or exchange service that you use, but that shouldn't be confused as a tax from either government. Bitcoin is considered a property, and if the Canadian law is anything like US law, it gets treated just like real estate. You only pay capital gains on any profits that you make from selling it. If you sell it at a loss, however, I'm not sure if you can claim that loss, like you would with a house. Although I'm a US citizen, I do not use USD to purchase Bitcoin, so I don't ever plan on having to pay taxes on it, so I guess I've never researched it into full detail like I do for everything else tax-related in my life Tongue
671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Common Q&A about Bitcoin: Non-Technical Edition (Earn Merits) on: March 03, 2018, 11:52:03 PM
Here is one I see a lot "will Bitcoin make me rich" I see that one all the time. Answer is it's possible but probably not. Bitcoin is being used as an investment vehicle you you can do some trading or just take advantage of the movements in Bitcoin but for a lot of us we look at Bitcoin as a new technology that has the possibility of revolutionizing how we do business. I do beleive btc and a couple other crypto can have huge growth in the future and become something everybody needs or wants to have. Satoshi cut out the central bank. It is the people's currency. What a beautiful idea. Having said that getting in now is still early if btc becomes like the cellphone or computers where everyone uses them. Other side of it is that it stays as it is and is used as a commodity. The days of five dollars turning into a million are over but try to study Bitcoin and see that there is much more to it than will it make you rich. It is a gift given to the world.

This answer, like many others will answer, is based on speculation. While it's great to have a positive outlook on Bitcoin, no one can be certain as to whether investing in Bitcoin now will make someone rich or not. Because I'm not a financial advisor, I rarely speculate on what my friends/family should do with their investments, but I tell them my opinion as to WHY I believe that there is still so much rising value in Bitcoin. An example being that it hasn't reached the mass network effect yet. Once Wall Street starts trading it, whether as a commodity or as a currency, THAT is when I believe that we'll see a rise in bitcoin adoption; much greater than what we experienced in December of 2017.

I like that question, as I've been asked that a lot. I'm meriting you for it, and adding it to the list. Although I would like a more general answer that can cover both sides of the question.
672  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Common Q&A about Bitcoin: Non-Technical Edition (Earn Merits) on: March 03, 2018, 11:48:22 PM
many people around me ask about whether btc trading is the same as gambling because guessing price in the future? What do you think..?? because I can only answer them casually and say that it is not a gamble because the one in the trading when not guess the price but analyze the price from when you buy btc and when you will sell your btc. how about the answers I gave them do you think that is enough, or should there be things I have to explain again to them ...?

I usually compare bitcoin trading to stock trading. There really isn't that much of a difference, with the exclusion of regulations in crypto trading. As long as any two items being traded retain value, how can it be gambling? I would answer their question by asking them the following question: "Do you consider stock trading as gambling? If so, then Bitcoin trading is no different."

Q: Isn't it too late to get into Bitcoin?

No, it is never too late to get into Bitcoin.  Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency has only been around since 2009 and has huge potential to create wealth for the people.  The stock market has been around for over 100 years and people would never say it’s too late to invest in the stock market.

Great comparison! I say the same thing, but I often add that as long as you can get into Bitcoin before Wall Street (fully) does, you're still not too late. Good answer, have a merit.

Now that it comes to my mind, was your intention of this thread to encourage us to introduce bitcoin to people we know and make us think of the best ways to answer these frequently asked questions?
I'm kinda new to bitcoin my self and I've already been asked some of these questions a couple of times when I introduced Bitcoin to my family and close friends. I haven't really given them much thought and your post made me think about them.

I have edited my post. It's ok if you're looking for better answers. I not being a native English speaker find it hard sometimes to find the right words to explain stuff.

I'm adding your answer as the first part of the answer to the question, but I'd expect some more from others, as well.
It may be better if you state this in your first or second post so that other members won't just skip the answered questions but instead read their answers. This way new members may actually learn a thing or two.

The purpose of this thread was to make it easier for bitcoin enthusiasts to arm themselves with the knowledge to help answer some of the basic questions that people ask. Rather than answering in technical terms, I'm looking for a way to make it easier for them to understand the first steps. I've updated your answer with the edited version. Thanks!

Hello BTC4Joe, thank you for taking the time to feedback on where I went wrong. It was only the first Answer that I copied and pasted as I thought it would be better to give definition but I understand that it is all about putting it out in an easy to understand format so I have given it a go below. Hopefully better now ;-)

Great, thank you for re-submitting your answers. I LOVE your answer about Bitcoin being a made-up money. I will add that to the answers. Here, have a merit. I'm glad to have popped your merit cherry!

Why did you start learning bitcoin?
Because I think bitcoin can help me earn extra money, with trading bitcoins and accepting jobs that pays bitcoins are the ways to earn it. Exchange it to our fiat money after to get use it.

How much time do you allot in bitcoin?
I allot usually 1-3 hours per day. Most of the time is used to learn how I could earn more in it and trying to learn how markets work. Learning how market works will be advantageous when trading.

How are you earning bitcoins?
I earn it from joining bounty campaigns. When a companies startup needs advertising they create campaigns to help spread the news and educate the public about the existence of their company. You will earn from the services you offer.

Why are you posting?
A way to advertise company is adding signatures in your post. So there will be a minimum amount of post companies are requiring you every week. You must comply to it to earn. We post to advertise them.

It could also be a way to contribute to the bitcoin community.

Your answers are based on a very small select purpose of Bitcoin. The general populous won't have the time or desire to earn Bitcoin by way of bounties. While earning small amounts of Bitcoin is a great way to be introduced to it, I have never been asked these types of questions from friends or family. Thanks for taking the time to ask and answer these questions, but I'm looking for more general questions surrounding Bitcoin, not just Bitcoin earning.
673  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: HashFlare worth to reinvest ??!! on: March 03, 2018, 11:36:13 PM
This is the hard thing among with these kind of cloud mining investments even how reputable and how long they are operational and i agree on the things you do have said. They do have the full control or manipulation as they like and as an investor you wont really have any choice but to follow on whats being said if you dont like to experience such problems with them. For those early investor back in the past with HF i do believe they are already on profits and since difficulty rise up they make such changes and for those who came in too late will really feel the difference when it comes to profit talks.

I think the methods of HashFlare is simply because they are a ponzi. While I do believe that they have miners available and are actually mining, I believe they were operating at a loss due to the "lifetime" contracts they offered upon launching their services. With the given changes, I'm fairly certain that they are now profitable. With all of the dead accounts with balances, to the raising of fees, they seemed to have found a model that works. They blame difficulty rising and the inflated prices of Bitcoin, but I believe that it's no longer worth any time to buy any hashrates with HF anymore. Like I stated before, as soon as my contract ends, I will be withdrawing all of my crypto from this site and won't be looking back!

bill gator, you're a standup guy. I'm very interested in this, and iirc, I did encounter this sort of "challenge" that you've proposed in the past. I believe I also endorsed you and said I would double your offer to any participants that were willing to take your challenge. You, in fact, inspired this idea a few weeks ago, but I really haven't taken any action on it until now. Thanks for doing that.

I appreciate you becoming a sponsor! I'll include you in the second post.

That's funny, because I couldn't remember if it was you or someone else that jumped on board and doubled my offer to someone. Yeah, I was wondering if this was something that sprouted because of that offer. That's why I was so quick to jump in here, I probably should've already done the same thing. I'm still considering starting a "Signatureless" Campaign, rather than a "challenge"; for the time being though this is really cool. You do recall correctly, I was wondering iirc, now it's all coming back to me. If this begins to expand I am with you on the development and would be willing to help with the workload if you feel you're being overwhelmed by the participants.

Awesome! I can't imagine this becoming anywhere near as successful as other paid campaigns, but it does encourage great posts out of any member of the forums. If it does become bigger, I'd be willing to partner with you and make it a 'campaign' of sorts, if you will. Let's see how the first few weeks go and take it from there!

Edit: I found the thread in which you offered this deal: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2689934.msg27496179#msg27496179 Cheesy

I've added it to the top post, as well.

Thanks! I'll add you to a list of merit donors on the second post. I just hope people don't hit you up begging for merit. If so, just let me know and I'll remove your name. Good luck on this challenge!

Do you support this cause?
If you would like to become a weekly sponsor to provide more slots for more signatureless winners, please post here or send me a PM.
If you would like to become a Merit sponsor (so that I don't run the risk of expiring my sMerit), please post here or send me a PM.

I want to show my support of this program; Joe if you are interested I would be perfectly willing to send $10 and +1 Merit to a runner-up each week (BTC only), someone that came close, but didn't quite take the cake. If this would add to the work too much then I could always give the $10 and +1 Merit to the winner each week. I was trying to do this for a few individuals awhile back, but nobody was interested so maybe creating a thread about it will get this started.

I'd love to sponsor a slot, and merit when I have some available (I have some now).

I first heard about YoBit because that was the first signature campaign that I joined here. I registered for the site, simply because they paid via our YoBit balances. Remember the whole BigUp brigade a few years ago? I actually made out okay on it. It was a shitcoin with no vision, but I bought a couple million of 'em for one sat each, and I made a pretty decent ROI within a few weeks on that shitcoin.

I will say that I never took YoBit serious as an exchange. Why? First of all, dice. Currency exchange and a dice game on the dashboard/portal? Lol.

But, I will also say that I did lose a couple thousand dollars worth of crypto when I lost access to my account. I had 2FA enabled, and lost my phone. I, being a dumbass, was using Google Authenticator, and given that YoBit doesn't (or didn't at the time) show your secret key for 2FA, I lost access to my account. I was easily able to recover my Bittrex, Poloniex and even C-CEX (another shitxchange), but when it came to YoBit, they just completely stopped responding to my request. It has been 14 months now, and they still have not responded to my monthly emails. Fuck YoShit.

If you have holdings in YoBit, get it out. Not just because of this news, but because of how shitty they are. As @magneto said above, there are thousands of posts in Scam Accusations about YoBit. While a lot of them are just fueled by impatience, there are legitimate complaints and scams that have definitely happened. The only reason I never created an accusation myself is because there were so many open accusations against them at the time.

With all that said, I don't believe that Krymov owns YoBit, and I think that it will continue operating without him. Even more reason to gtfo. I hope if anyone from these forums takes anything away from this, it's that YoBit cannot be trusted. Be cautious.

shameless plug.

Welcome to Joe's Signatureless Challenge.

Starting Monday, March 5 at 9:00PM (GMT -6), a weekly challenge will commence, awarding one winner with the following prizes:

$20USD* () or $25USD* () via PayPal or BTC

and

1 Merit (given that I have sMerits available to give)

*read this post in its entirety for full payment details.

Who can enter the challenge?
This challenge is available to any and all English-speaking members (Newbies thru Legendary) of BitcoinTalk. Negative trust members are permitted.

However, there is one small catch: you must not be wearing any signature that belongs to any paid signature campaign. You can have your own signature, or you can choose to wear my signature below (for a chance at an extra $5), but you cannot be a part of an existing signature campaign.

This challenge was designed to help eliminate spam and shitposts from the forums. In return, you could be rewarded for posting quality content and contributing to BitcoinTalk. As it currently stands (March 2, 2018), there will be one winner selected every Sunday. The first winner will be chosen on Sunday, March 11 at approximately 9:00PM (GMT -6). Participants are eligible to win multiple times throughout the duration of this challenge. Participants must apply for the challenge every week that they wish to enter.

The cutoff for entering is every Monday at 9:00PM (GMT -6). Upon posting your application prior to the cutoff, you will be eligible to participate for that week. If you apply after the cutoff, your application will be valid for the following week. YOU MUST POST YOUR APPLICATION IN THIS THREAD EVERY WEEK THAT YOU WISH TO PARTICIPATE.

How do I win the challenge?
You simply have to have the most substantial posts (according to me) for the duration of the week. There will be a minimum of 10 posts required for the week, and no maximum. Posts will be allowed in any topic on any board, as long as the board is English-speaking. Off-topic? Sure. Gambling or Micro Earnings. Go ahead. Ivory Tower? Yup. Altcoin Discussion? Sure, why not? As long as your posts are knowledgeable or contributive to the given dialogue of the topic, you'll earn points in my book. I won't disclose my criteria, but I will commit to going through every participant's post history for the week to ensure that a winner is chosen fairly.

Here is the application format:
Code:
BitcoinTalk Username:
Starting Post Count (including this one):
BTC Address:

Note: You do not need to submit a BTC address at this time. You can always submit it if/when you win the challenge. The same applies if you would like your winnings via PayPal.

Good luck, everyone, and thanks for doing your part to help make the forums a better place, even if it is via having a chance to win some cash and merits! Cheesy

-snip-

I asked for you to do some research and dig up some proof. And you sure did.

I haven't really researched NastyFans, as I really don't care about it, but the documentation that you've provided is pretty damning in itself. What I'm really curious about, however, is what the members of NastyFans have/had to say about the way this whole thing went down. Is NF still active? Does it still have members? Were the Slack screenshots from the original post recent?

Oh, and after re-reading this thread, it's weird to see that some posts were edited...

I hope OG doesn't red tag me for posting this...EVERYTHING about it screams ponzi

There is nothing Ponzi about NastyFans.

This used to read as:

I hope OG doesn't red tag me for posting this...EVERYTHING about it screams ponzi

There is nothing Ponzi about NastyFans.  If you continue to spread libel statements with no evidence and do not correct your prior ones, I will red tag you for spreading lies about provably honest community projects.

As can be seen by my unedited post, as well as by owlcatz's unedited post.

I gather that this is because it's easy to see the way in which DT1 abuse was threatened towards me. I saw nothing wrong with what I posted, nor did I find any of it to be untrustworthy. But based on the documentation in this thread, along with the actions I've observed, I really am concerned that this user is a DT1 member.

Either way, getting back on track, if anyone could answer my questions above, I'd appreciate it. At the end of the day, it is insignificant to me, as I have no intention of joining anything related to OgNasty. It's just to appease my curiosity, so I'm absolutely fine with not getting any answers if you guys feel like this is beating a dead horse Tongue
