USPS website shows my estimated delivery date as July 3.... Didnt get it yesterday or today.... I think their estimate is off a bit, hope it shows up tomorrow.

Thanks for the effort in setting this up for us! Cant wait to see my first ASIC in action!
662  Economy / Speculation / Re: The long July 4th weekend on: July 02, 2013, 06:06:25 PM
Why would there be less money put into the market on a long weekend like this? (serious question)
Wouldnt the fact that more people will be off work mean they have more time to spend on the exchanges? Or is the opposite true?
663  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] CoinLab Protected Pool on: July 02, 2013, 03:34:40 PM
I just noticed this in the first post:

Quote
Loyalty Points expire after 90 days of account inactivity.  Account inactivity is defined as not submitting any shares and not communicating with us.

After logging in to the redeem pool, looks like my loyalty points are still there. Have any points been expired due to the above rule?

I seem to have missed that too, however I also still have my points.

Voted, again! Grin
665  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CaptchaCoin.com - Get paid bitcoins for solving captchas! on: July 01, 2013, 12:44:46 AM
I gave it a try, not a big fan of the background or the text color.

As far as the captcha goes, I dont like the fact that its case sensitive, letters like 'V' look the same in both cases...

otherwise, neat idea

Did shipment #7.2 arrive yet  Grin
It has not... DHL is due to deliver 7.2 and 7.3 on Monday. just got off the phone with them.

Poo.
667  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What USB hub should I get for USB miners? on: June 28, 2013, 05:11:05 PM
This may be slightly off topic but...

How hard would it be to make a powered USB hub yourself? In the simplest terms all you should need to do is open up a non-powered hub and connect all the USB power contacts to a separate PSU capable of supplying the correct voltage/amperage. Then even connect a few together and make your own 49-port hub. granted it may not be a nice looking but for $1000 it might be worth it.

Just a thought.

The 80 port one above is $169.

The 49 port for over $1000 is presumably priced and sold by Fried Cat.

The 80 Port above charges only, no data.

I understand that. I have done my own calculations and with my cheap electricity Im still profitable at this point, but not for much longer Im sure.

Just trying to plan ahead as best I can in the bitcoin world.

I think Im in for 7. If I can replace all my 5850s I have running with these and endup at about the same hashrate, it will be easier to swallow the low chance of a ROI. Plus they are the only ASIC i'll own.

I'll send payment when I get home.

Looks like the mining factor has hit $2.50 based on this site: http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/

I would hope CoinLab is still willing to honor their loyalty points as I will probably be cashing them in soon.
Can we get any confirmation about this? I know CoinLab has had its ups and downs recently but I feel confident that they are honest and will hold true to their word.
673  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Inaba/BFL/WTF??? on: May 17, 2013, 11:15:11 AM
In his defense, in a way I can see why he acts the way he does on these forums. (Note, Im no shill, I do not and never will buy anything from BFL). He acts like a douche to everyone, making people mad and in turn they create new threads with 'BFL' in the title somewhere. Look for yourself, ow many threads can you find in 3min that include BFL as a title? Given that, a noob stops by and starts reading and what do thay see? ASIC = MONEY, ASIC COMPANY = BFL. You have to really dig to find threads about any other ASIC company, those who do not find these others endup ordering from BFL.

The best example I have is the rapper Eminem. He made the most money when he was in the news for his lyrics. The news is free advertising, even if its bad news! Everyone went out and bought the cds simply because thats what EVERYONE was talking about for a few months/years.

I didnt know Inaba before he worked for BFL, but if you read the thread in which he announces he has been hired he basically mentions that he has been a dick in the past with his posts and doesnt plan to change much. This tells me he has always acted like that, for what thats worth. Ive also seen him admit himself that he likes to argue and debate with people, so hes doing it for fun...

None of this, however, explains the lies and bullshit that has come from BFL. It also does not make me feel better about doing business with them in anyway. I still think Inaba/Josh is a total douchebag and I would personally never conduct business in this manor, but I can sort of see why.
674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Killer App for Bitcoin? Distributed computing for bitcoin? on: May 13, 2013, 08:59:18 PM
The problem is (If I understand you correctly) is that Universities are not going to pay us to crunch their numbers. this is why they built things like Folding and Seti to begin with, you down load and 'donate' you pc power/electricity to solve problems for them.

That helps, thanks guys! Im going to dig deeper into this...
676  Bitcoin / Pools / P2Pool Question on: May 08, 2013, 07:36:37 PM
Quick simple question here...

The idea of P2Pool is that each miner is his own 'pool' correct? I know that may not be the correct terms, but each miner runs its own p2pool software and bitcoin client, right?

Other miners can then also connect to this p2pool you setup and mine like any other pool, correct? Or am I way off base here?
677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why the testnet reset? on: May 08, 2013, 04:30:53 PM
Its not there for testing the value of coins, I would say its for testing new hardware/software (ASICs, new mining programs, possibly wallets, etc).

With ASICs, companies can test them to be sure they work but not be blamed for mining on the BTC blockchain.

You can test software to make sure it sends coins correctly, rather than testing on the main blockchain and risking losing x number of bitcoins.

I see no reason for the testnet to have value, the name says it all, TESTnet.

But, say I want to test a new feature that has possible security implications. No one has any motive to try and exploit it, because testnet coins have no value. Then it goes into Bitcoin and gets raped.

Thats a good point, however any software programmer would have this issue. When you release a beta of some software you will probably only have a small number of people running it. Once it goes mainstream you run the risk of others exploiting it.

Also, if testnet has value then whats the difference between testing on there and have users loose coins and running it on Bitcoin and losing coins?

Because testnet coins would be worth LOTS less than actual coins.

Says who? is there a coded limit to the max value of the coins?

The coins will have some value always, even if its only $.00000000001. Someone will value them at SOMETHING. The reset was to keep this value as low as possible.
