721  Economy / Economics / Re: I read a thread on destroying bitcoins I have a better idea. on: April 19, 2015, 03:17:53 AM
Honestly there are other ways which I prefer, for example like talking to your friends and getting them to check out about bitcoin, tipping and become active participants in forums promoting bitcoin. Although these are more like an indirect approach but I see it being more effective in the long term than short term.
722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's say satoshi is cashing out 1million BTC on: April 18, 2015, 03:50:02 PM
I don't know about those ideas but have anybody ever figured out that maybe you can use a portion of that btc to a luxury yacht or even sports cars where the sellers are actually a bitcoin fan and is willing to accept btc. Work out a deal to get somehow to purchase the item on your behalf and once you own the item, just sell it off to any of the sports car enthusiast or any of the dot com mogul living in Silicone Valley. Either way there are bound to be buyers, it's a matter of knowing the right people. So what do you guys think? Workable?
723  Economy / Economics / Re: Government & Bitcoin on: April 18, 2015, 02:59:00 PM
Governments are already aware of the blockchain technology and they acknowledge the potential that it holds and how it is going to affect and change the existing banking and financial system. But they are not ready to use bitcoin being something they have no control over. I'm sure they already have something in plan to utilize blockchain but as i said what they want is to have something that can exist alongside their system.
724  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Is Mass Bitcoin Adoption Still Not Happening? on: April 18, 2015, 11:17:23 AM
In part it is also because of the collapsed exchangers and ponzi schemes which has been dragging down bitcoin's reputation. When some of these things happened it has far more outreached implications more than we can ever imagine.
725  Economy / Speculation / Re: when will we be degoxed? on: April 18, 2015, 11:09:13 AM
Well you are right to point out that most of the speculators would have been exited since Nov 2013 but within that timespan until now, I'm sure there are other new people moving in and at the same time going out as well. Don't forget compared to almost two years ago the infrastructure and businesses wasn't that well developed so there is another thing we need to consider. At this point, anything is still not certain although we can continue to speculate.
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Africa or Australia on: April 18, 2015, 10:05:53 AM
I think both continents have equal chance to make great impact, the only difference is when will it take place. Australia already has existing facility to support bitcoin development and move towards mainstream adoption. On the other hand we shouldn't discount Africa as well. Comprising of several countries, bitcoin can actually be used as a common currency to facilitate trade and given the political turmoil that degrades value and trust the people have towards paper money used over there, bitcoin can actually play a wider role to become a common trading currency. So it all depends on how you look at it.
727  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin value in exchanges vs. its value in the real economy on: April 18, 2015, 09:45:57 AM
I hope there is no confusion here because price and value are two different things. Price does no always reflect the true value as in the case of the numbers that you see in exchangers -- it is merely a integer determined by the intersection of supply and demand factor. Value on the other hand is another thing. Take for example, if I value an item at $100, then logically if the item is priced anything below that amount, then I'll be willing to dig down deep into my pocket and fork out that number to pay for it.

Now goes back to the question on whether bitcoin is undervalued, then we have to consider several factors. Question is what can i do with the coins that i hold, what benefit does it bring compared to the conventional paper money that i have, how safe or convenient it is to use, what advantages does it hold? From there, you should be able to assign its value. And don't forget it's just an arbitrary number depending on person to person.
728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Yahoo Exec Jumps On Board Ripple Labs on: April 18, 2015, 09:04:32 AM
So what does a top level exec joining ripple lab has got anything to do with bitcoin here?
729  Other / Off-topic / Re: Word on the street about satoshi... on: April 18, 2015, 08:56:15 AM
Seeing the world is being unfairly treated and oppressed, He sent upon Satoshi as the messenger to deliver the words and design the ultimate system that would one day end this financial plague
730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What services come to your mind when you hear Bitcoin & Airport? on: April 18, 2015, 08:50:21 AM
I can imagine that when bitcoin has gone fully mainstream and is accepted at every store at every country, you don't even need to declare the amount of cash currency that you are bringing in/out from the country's airport. It will be pointless to do that!
731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many new jobs have been created thanks to Bitcoin? on: April 18, 2015, 04:57:07 AM
I don't think you can get the exact number without access to reliable information. But for a starter have anybody ever considered calculating number of members participating in signature campaigns in bitcointalk and those offering services in the services section? You can easily filter out the numbers. I mean for some that's part time job but I believe there are those into full time commitment.
732  Economy / Economics / Re: Can a coin that is primarily a store-of-value succeed? on: April 18, 2015, 03:00:10 AM
Yes it can. DMD Diamond s primairly store of value and it s going to be big. Yes, I have invested in it and yes you can consider this as a promotion. However, if I think it s smart to invest my own money in it, I see no reason why I would not recommend it to other people.
Okay, you're free to promote a coin you like, but in keeping with this being the bitcoin discussion section, would you mind elaborating why you think such coins can/will succeed? You're free to bring examples from your coin, but I hope that there is also something in general to all cryptocurrencies. I don't mind the mods moving this thread, but I'd prefer if it stayed here.

Thanks.

Ok, sure.

You know how they often compare crypto to a gold?

One of the major function of gold is to be a store of value, in other words a precious metal you can turn your assets into and know that you ll be able to retain that value over decades.
The same idea s behind several cryptocurrencies, I would say most of them besides those with high inflation rate e.g 700%+

People often think that the primary reason for crypto to succeed is to get accepted by thousands of small retailers and get spent EVERY DAY. This might not be true.
I personally chose my currencies to act as store of value, I do use some of them to purchase things I need but most of them I hoard like a hamster. Let us be honest, most of us do the same.
The only difference is that some people do it solely because they expect the price of their portfolio to apprecaiate while other, like me, do this due to this additional reason of PRESERVING current assets over time.

I like gold but I m into tech and I need something with characteristics of a precious metal which can be turned into FIAT fast, which is easy to transfer, which is safe and secure.

Why DMD Diamond? Well, its a 50% annual PoS coin. In other words, it s a gold bar which generated small gold bars over time.  Grin
Also, it s a coin with a very limited and scarce supply as a real diamond should be. PoW phase reward just got reduced from 1 DMD per block to 0.2 DMD per block.

So, yes, I believe crypto can be used as a store of value. Whether this is its primarily function, it depends on the person who holds it.

If you create a coin primarily only for as a storage purpose  how do you expect it to grow without demand. If you can create a coin and slap it with any name you want to call it what prevents others from doing the same and call their coins also as store of value. What makes the difference here is if you can create a coin where there is a natural demand for spending purpose it will likely attain a value. Never mind if it gets sold as long as people will buy it again and spending the coins is the key.
733  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bottom is in at $215 buying like crazy on: April 18, 2015, 02:07:53 AM
I'll be more than happy if it doesn't drop further. Currently it's like hanging on precariously to its position and if you observe the orderbook at exchangers, a lot of sell order is already in place putting the pressure with more downside expected.
734  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price in 10 years..... on: April 18, 2015, 02:00:09 AM
As much as I want to see the numbers grow insanely, i just like to remain realistic. Truth is I prefer the numbers to keep at a moderate but more importantly at a stable level where it can sustain itself. Remember we had a bad experience once when it jumped to 1000 and then moving back towards where it is right now
735  Economy / Speculation / Re: Easiest Way To Improve The Price on: April 18, 2015, 01:54:21 AM
That will only work if there's a majority doing it. Words of intent only will not make much of a difference. The community can actually agree on something towards achieving this common objective provided that everybody is willing to play their part.
736  Economy / Speculation / Re: China temporarily out of the Bitcoin game? on: April 18, 2015, 12:04:34 AM
I'm surprised that I'm not seeing any start-ups based in china where people can actually indirectly invest in the shares of the company. So in reality it doesn't matter if stocks holding are up or down, people will still have an avenue to invest in bitcoin.
737  Economy / Economics / Re: The USA has the equivalent of $1 million in debt and a salary of $170k/year on: April 17, 2015, 11:50:33 PM
The whole system is actually surrounded by debts and money created out of thin air. If you look at the situation in 2007 and compared to right now, i don't see that things are getting better. The government cant just continue to increase taxes to cover the shortage or make up the debt because eventually by doing this it will actually dampen the economy and prevent growth. Economists have been predicting a collapse but given the current situation we are seeing right now, I'm actually surprised how the bubble can actually sustained for so long.
738  Economy / Economics / Re: What kind of affect would another global recession have on Bitcoin? on: April 17, 2015, 11:39:20 PM
People over the years have lost trust in the current fiat financial system and I'm not surprised that any collapse will actually boost bitcoin popularity even further. When people realize that the value of their fiat holding is decreasing measured in terms of purchasing power, they will start to look for channels to hedge the situation. Gold for one will definitely benefit and this will be an opportunity for bitcoin to gain traction and boost adoption.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we assume that Satoshi cashing out his coins would be noticeable? on: April 17, 2015, 11:08:44 PM
If he was cashing out in small amount but on frequent basis would we have known it's him that's doing it? There's always different ways and option on how to do it but still keeping his identity concealed. All these claims are just based on assumptions.
740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mainstream on: April 17, 2015, 02:32:31 PM
I always thought gaming with a large fan base will be the one making the difference especially when it is adopted as an in-game currency. Or another potential area is the trading marketplace where bitcoin is one of the payment currency. Either way both will have the largest impact considering the volume to attract new users who will be spending a lot
