761  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fidel Castro lived like a king in Cuba, book claims on: May 28, 2014, 05:39:10 PM
I don't like the cuban regime, but doesn't mean it hasn't do some good things, even if it is a poor country under brutal american sanctions.
Check cuban education levels, health system, kids mortality, etc, and compare them with Latin-American states in the seventies, eighties and nineties. Or even today.
762  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why the US dollar collapse is assured on: May 28, 2014, 05:30:47 PM
I'm more concern with the euro than the USD. I bet many europeans will end running to the USD again because of problems that still exist.
763  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 10 Amazing Acts Of Defiance Throughout History on: May 28, 2014, 05:17:56 PM
The Greeks were only about 7000, maybe 7700, from several cities, so the act of defiance was even greater. But they didn't win, many of them were massacred after 3 days of heroic struggle, fighting to the last men (not only the 300 Spartans).

Things didn't end there. Xerxes and the Persian army managed to burn Athens and only after the naval battle of Salamis were defeated. Well, actually, after that, Athens was again conquered by the Persians under Mardonius. Only with the battle of Plataea (479 BC) they were expelled from Greece.

Yes, I like military and political history.
764  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin adoption by paypal / eBay in a near future on: May 28, 2014, 05:01:41 PM
I do hate paypal and not only because of their exchange commissions.

One has to have nerve, to return the money to scammers that buy crypto and then do scamming chargebacks. And lets not forget their infamous and abusive limiting of accounts policy, specially the unverified ones.
765  Economy / Economics / Re: Quantitative Easing on: May 28, 2014, 05:21:47 AM
I would agree that QE can create problems, if done to solve budget deficits, as in many countries. But it was used as part of monetary policy to take the economy out of recession and it was partly successful. Besides, since it didn't create inflation, there was no devaluation of the money.

The euro is still a currency with an uncertain future, but if one day it ends, it will be an economic tragedy to the world, not only to Europe.
766  Economy / Economics / Re: Quantitative Easing on: May 28, 2014, 04:39:24 AM
QE save not only the American economy, but probably also the world economy. Without it, probably the euro would have ended.
And since didn't provoke inflation, all considerations about its negative consequences didn't materialize (at least, yet).
767  Economy / Economics / Re: Personal finance advice / ideas needed on: May 28, 2014, 04:12:42 AM
As others wrote, diversify.
Keep a part earning 2%, if necessary, in a strong bank (not Cyprus or any of the PIGS, those banks can end badly; HSBC might be a good choice, but be prepare for low interest and high fees), at least 30%, just in case.
Another part in funds. You can find all kinds, real state, stocks, commodities.
If bitcoin goes lower, under 300, maybe you can buy more.
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Satoshi is, Who Nick Szabo is, Who Wei Dai is, and What John Nash Did on: May 28, 2014, 03:18:48 AM
Do you think you have a base to identify Satoshi with Nash (as far as everyone, but you, knows, Nash don't know nothing about networks and programming and in 2009 was 81 years old) just because of some reddles with their names or because Satoshi just read Nash study and was inspired by it?
But are you also saying that Nash is Nick Szabo? Szabo is an identified person, with a degree and activity on the University of Washington, with an email from the university (nszabo&law.gwu.edu) that gave a lecture on July 6, 2004, on San Diego, California: http://szabo.best.vwh.net He isn't 86 years old...

Just leave Satoshi alone, he has a right to privacy.
769  Other / Off-topic / Re: Damn it I just lost all my bitcoins on: May 28, 2014, 02:13:09 AM
You needed some courage to confess here your loss, usually people don't do that. I hope you have the same courage against any stupid thinking like recovering your loss gambling again.
770  Economy / Economics / Re: Collapse or dollar= collapse of Rome= armagedon, but WHY!? on: May 28, 2014, 01:49:27 AM
The idea that the dollar is going to collapse because of all the debt doesn't make much sense. At most, there might be some inflation, but 10% of inflation will be enough to destroy major part of the debt in 10 years, even with higher interest rates.

Anyway, no society collapses because of the collapse of its currency. Any people comparing this to the collapse of the Roman Western Empire is misleading the Op. The Roman currency was seriously debased, but it wasn't this kind of problems that took Rome down, but the sword.
771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about Satoshi. on: May 28, 2014, 01:35:07 AM
I'm hoping that the victim will sue them for all the dimes they earned with that insult to the intelligence of their readers.

But Newsweek paid a price in credibility... that earned money had a heavy cost. I don't give much for the future of the so-called journalist, she will be hunted by this story for years.
772  Economy / Economics / Re: Surely the Government has the right to tax fiat? on: May 27, 2014, 11:09:38 PM
The right of the state to tax fiat has no base on the fact that fiat is created by the state or by the central bank with licence by the state, but rather on the fact that the state give everyone certain services and demands payment also on grounds of solidarity, equality and "fair" share of our enjoyment of the benefits of society: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=617895.msg6931130#msg6931130
773  Economy / Economics / Re: advantage bitcoin over other payment methods online on: May 27, 2014, 10:50:44 PM
Unless you are sending the money out of an exchange that collects always the transaction fee, you really don't need to pay any fee. The transfer might be a little more slow, but usually I didn't notice any difference in speed. Speed will be much more related to the general conditions of the network than on the fee. So, basically, bitcoin transfers are free or subject to a voluntary donation.

774  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014 - 05 - 21] HARVARD ECONOMICS PROFESSOR MAKES THE CASE FOR BITCOIN on: May 27, 2014, 10:18:27 PM
Well, people have to tell those things in order for bitcoin to be more accepted, but I doubt any Government will believe that bitcoin can be tax friendly. On the contrary, bitcoin can provoke much more headaches for the tax men than off shores do.
Take in account that the bitcoin can be changed in order to introduce higher levels of anonymity, taking in account advances introduced by other alt coins.
775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question about Satoshi. on: May 27, 2014, 09:23:29 PM
The Newsweek story was one of the most stupid stories I ever read. You are looking for a master mind of disguise, of course you go find him in the yellow pages...  I wonder where the Newsweek picks up its employees...
Now, there was another story published after on the subject... and that one might have some credibility. But lets forget about the matter, satoshi has his right to privacy, I don't want to know who he is.
776  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-22] Julian Assange speaks on behalf of cryptocurrencies on: May 27, 2014, 08:51:11 PM
I guess he is living out of cryptocoins, since it's more or less the assured source of income wikileaks has. I'm not surprised that he speaks well of bitcoins. Would you bash your income source?
777  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: May 27, 2014, 08:46:47 PM
Alright, thank you again.
But I stand by my initial opinion, this doesn't seem to make sense, because someone that deposited bitcoin, exchanged for fiat, then back to bitcoin and withdrew bitcoin, is in an identical position of anyone that only deposited and traded alt coins: both can not launder money. the fiat they traded is in your hands and will never leave the exchange by their withdraws.
You will lose many traders that do trade daily, but that don't want to withdraw fiat and do like privacy.
But it's your decision, it seems you are doing ok, good luck.
778  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-24] The Crypto Crimson: The First Crime-Free Bitcoin Exchange is Coming on: May 27, 2014, 08:36:10 PM
A crime free exchange? I bet people won't be able to do nothing without sending all the documents the owners will remember to ask, including personal videos showing the documents and a picture of their grandmother.
779  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin adoption by paypal / eBay in a near future on: May 27, 2014, 08:30:07 PM
Paypal will use bitcoin as it uses the dollar. Transactions of bitcoin will be inside the paypal system, so they can be reversed, unless paypal allows you to withdraw your bitcoins from their system. Well, I bet paypal will create a series of delays (its infamous "account limited") for people willing to withdraw all their bitcoins.
780  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why the US dollar collapse is assured on: May 27, 2014, 08:26:08 PM
The FED can print the Federal government out of debt and do it slowly enough to avoid high inflation.
Forget about the colapse of the dollar. Our grandfathers were telling about the colapse of the dollar when they were young. At most, we'll see a slow decline.
