That's a funny way to discover bitcoin, welcome. If you want to get into bitcoin I would strongly recommend reading up on security. It could have just as easily been a wallet stealer that infected you. There are ways to mitigate your risk. Cheers.

I wonder if the market for such financial tools is there. I personally would not want to involve my bitwealth in fractional banking.

Why would "outlawing" bitcoin prevent terrorists from using it? Or would breaking finance law be a bridge too far for Al Qaeda?

I duno. I don't understand the question. Also... I like turtles.

As an answer to your question I would throw out the word confidence. The big crash last year followed a massive theft campaign that included a breach at MtGox. When the shock of it wore off it took a while for prices to rise as people realized that bitcoins fundamentals were still intact. When confidence has risen from things like broader adoption, the price has shot up. I think that's what is happening now. Lot's of good news about BTC in the press and blogs.

Since I have switched to bitcoin I have not used Paypal. IMO, it can't touch bitcoin.

The price floats with the market. It goes up and it goes down based on demand. Look below at recent gold prices. Is gold still a good bet?

According to the Ra material--purportedly--they were a gift from a interdimensional civilization but they left once they realized we couldn't handle the technology. It was suggested that the pyramids were crystal-based devices that allowed humans to grasp the concept of absolute infinity and thus the universe and life itself. One would have to enter the center of the pyramid and be led through ritual. However, the higher echelons of the Egyptian empire kept this capability to themselves and just let the pyramids serve mainly as fancy palaces.
This would explain the use of the pyramid symbolism in finance among other things.
Of course, this is all just religious theory.
Not to pick on you man. But these are baseless. Who said any of these things, Scientists, historians, Egyptologists? Crystal alien device... Pft.. Indeed.

I'm going to show black rhinos how to hire a hit man on BMR!

... Also, there is evidence of a cover-up among Egyptologists to hide something, perhaps this link. That makes no sense whatsoever. "Hey guys let's all throw away our careers to participate in a world wide hoax!" What is with people that they could entertain such a ridiculous idea?

Years ago when I was in Haiti I lived at a special forces outpost. Two of the guys there told me over a few beers about their exploits in the first gulf war. They had dressed up as reporters and went to a hotel bar to look for real reporters. Then they just made stuff up. Both were shocked to see their lies in the NYTimes, and vowed to never believe the press again.

Because bitcoin turns the world into one giant garage sale!

I looked at it but I don't really get how it speeds up the process. In my case, I have funds in Dwolla that want to go to MtGox, how is their transfer faster? Do I still need to wait until Dwolla verifies my photo ID? The cash deposit to BTC looks interesting but it doesn't say what the exchange rate is and I honestly don't know how reputable these guys are. It has not always worked perfectly for everyone, but I have never waited more than 15mins. or shown any identification.

Remember when every other thread was about bitcoins imminent demise? My fav was the one predicting sub-0 prices.

Care to guess what the following is?
Are they penises? No, but you're in the general location. Google "artificial calamari". Oh god, i heard that piece. It's about the last thing you would want to put in your mouth from a hog. Yes, worse than penis.

Science knows nothing. Science is a process for determining truth. In the hands of someone who is not open to seeing the truth, it is useless. For example it is easy to prove there is no bigfoot. But someone who "believes" anyway is sure to see bigfoot every time they go camping.
