How do you disable stratum on cgminer? I was running my rigs on Coinlab and decided to upgrade BAMT to the (at the time) latest cgminer and have not been able to mine there since. I can however mine on any pool that supports Stratum but would like to go back to Coinlab.
There is nothing about stratum support that precludes mining on regular getwork pools. If they support both getwork and stratum and they specify the stratum header, cgminer will automatically switch to stratum, unless you add the "--fix-protocol" option. But if the pool does not support stratum, like coinlab, it will just use getwork. I first assumed this which is why I upgraded. However after upgrading it would not mine on coinlab and will not on Ozcoin either unless it is on the Stratum pool. Maybe its something with the way BAMT talks to cgminer? Pool issues. I know ozcoin has had issues with its getwork pools lately, but I have no idea about coinlab. Possible I guess, however I have 2 different rigs both running BAMT. One I never upgraded cgminer and it is still mining on coinlab with zero issues, the other is having issues.

Maybe Im just naive, but what would a person/group gain from DDoSing a pool like this? I would think most miners have a backup pool in place and there for it does not affect the network hashrate. The pool OP would be the only one really hurting as far as I can tell.

i would say most anyone has "unlimited" internet. I know some people have satellite internet or some type of mobile internet which has a monthly cap but those are select situations. For the most part it doesnt "cost" anything.
My father-in-law still uses a dial-up connection. He is limited in monthly bytes sent/received as well. So, while "most anyone" might be an accurate term, there are still plenty of people who are limited in their internet usage. I suppose the answer can be "They shouldn't use bitcoin.", but it is bad information to claim that the relay of transactions doesn't cost anybody anything. Fair enough. It will not cost you anything if you have an unlimited internet connection (as I alreeady stated) or if you have a capped connection and do not go over your cap. Otherwise it will cost you to be a node for bitcoin.

It could still be used to run FPGAs or ASICs. It doesnt HAVE to be used to GPU mine.

That makes more sense. I remember a service awhile back that would download torrents and then allow them to be downloaded from servers, just can not recall the name.

180mm = 7.087 inches. Now that's a cooling fan.
The fans don't seems to extend the full 7", so I'm going to assume that maybe it's 4x 70mm or 80mm fans? I'm assuming you could replace them with a larger 140mm fan, but like I said, it wouldn't cool the center ones as well. Would it even need a fan at all? Say its 120watts and 16 chips, thats 7.5watts per chip. Wouldnt a heatsink alone be enough to keep them cool?
Consider it this way: the current MMQ has 4 chips, and pulls 40W. Even at 10W/each, they have a heatsink with a built in fan for every chip. Lowering the thermal output by 25%, but then sharing one larger fan between 4 heatsinks, would be about the same. Thats true, I guess I was comparing it to the 5watt that the rpi uses. Although the probably would not be used in a situation where it would be maxed out for extended periods of time like an ASIC will.

Pretty sweet looking. I probably would have gone with one big fan rather than four small ones for noise but I'm sure it will be easy enough to change.
If the chips are numbered like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 One large fan probably wouldn't cool chips 6,7,10, and 11 (the chips in the center) all that well. 4 small fans helps keep equal cooling across all chips. Responses like this are exactly why Tom didnt feel comfortable posting pictures of the prototype, or power figures (even a guess), or a rendering. You cant please everyone and there will always be someone who bitches. I agree that they could be better, but I would rather devote time into the physical product rather than making fancy renderings and pictures to plaster all over net. Yeah they could be prettier, but it's nice to see movement. As to the molex issue, I believe bASIC is moving toward a PCIe connector as a single molex would be pretty close to maxed current wise. This is a good choice IMO and the barrel connector is another option for powering the unit.
The design is very compact and efficient IMO, though it could obviously change significantly prior to shipping.
You an I are looking at different pictures, clearly. If you look at the MMQs vs BFL singles, the MMQ had a lot less board components than the singles did/do. Not saying that the bASIC will be the same way but the MMQs worked just fine....

Make sure your in the /opt/miners/cgminer directory check your steps one by one in the OP above. Thank you sir! Im not sure what step I messed up on, but I went through it again and all is well! The only problem is it will not mine on coinlab now, but it does on bitmiter. Maybe because of stratum?

I doubt it will be long before CPU mining is unprofitable.
It's going to be difficult to be unprofitable with "free power" and any hardware ready to go. Sorry, I should have said about as profitable as walking through parking lots picking up change... better?
