781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do not panic, its not the end of bitcoin FFS on: July 03, 2013, 08:00:49 PM
Why not sell ? is the wise solution. If you sell yesterday you will have 91$ per BTC, if you sold today you have 81$ per bitcoins if you sell tomorrow you will have 71$ for BTC Smiley Its wise decision

No because no one knows if it's gonna be $71 tomorrow or back at $91.

Panic selling is the worst thing you can do. If you are long term bullish on bitcoin which I imagine most of us are (this IS the bitcoin forums) then you should be holding now. Or buying if you are continuing to invest.

Day traders without insider information may get lucky from time to time but they will ALWAYS lose in the long run.

As someone who works in the trading industry I beg to differ. Day traders make money by identifying patterns and finding the probability of a certain result. They then trade based on positive expected values so that in the long run they DON'T lose. I think you'll find that the majority of traders who understand this and do their due diligence before ever trading come out to be quite successful in the long run.

Day traders who think they can look at a moving average and tell where price is going in the next five minutes always lose in the long run. Don't group us all together.

I'm sure we could debate this for hours. In work in the finance industry and there are certainly day traders that can take advantage of market inefficiencies for a time and indeed make quite a bit of money. Eventually they always do run out of steam as the market changes or others catch in to their schemes.

Regardless, bitcoin is far too small of a market with far too low liquidity to successfully day trade. Additionally, I doubt that many people here have the knowledge and experience to make money at it if they did. 90% of the predictions on these forums are based on someone's hunch or some really basic TA without anything else to back it up. People like to see patterns where there isn't. It's the way out brains work.  People love to fit the 2011 bubble crashes graph over 2013s as if that is supposed to mean something. 99% of what you read here is bullshit. The only thing that seems to be consistent is this: when the market is up, the bulls come out, when the market is down, the bears come. Note that the bitcoin price is the driving force here. It would be great if it were the other way around because then we'd all be rich!

783  Economy / Speculation / Re: I get the impression this forum turned bearish, contra indicator? on: July 03, 2013, 04:21:44 PM
Is it just me projecting or do you also notice a big shift here? Only several weeks ago half of the forum was still openly bullish. Now I can barely find a bullish post. Sure the winkle ETF many like, but very few seem to think this will push up the price in the short term. Compare that to the chinese bitcoin documentary that was used by most that 'price will go up up up'.

I'm bearish myself but seeing so many agree I think chances become higher that it will actually go up the coming weeks.

Here is how it works. When the price is going up the people on this forum are bullish, when the price is going down, people are bearish.

It's as simple as that. Nobody here ever makes a prediction worth a damn.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Winkle Twins on: July 03, 2013, 01:58:04 AM
People don't like thm because of that movie. They fail to realize it was nt a documentary; it was a MOVIE.

The winkleface twins are taking a huge risk with this bitcoin ETF, but if it succeeds it could make them a lot of money and be HUGE for bitcoin. This could easily be the best thing to happen to bitcoin in 2013.
785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Give your kids their pocket money in Bitcoin on: July 03, 2013, 01:28:30 AM
Um, I wouldn't let me kid under the age of 18 use the Internet. You guys are crazy.

I set up a bitcoin wallet for my gf and thought of giving her a couple of coins. Then I realized there wasn't anything she could do with them. Foodier doesn't even deliver in her area.
786  Economy / Speculation / Re: The long July 4th weekend on: July 02, 2013, 08:24:32 PM
Why would there be less money put into the market on a long weekend like this? (serious question)
Wouldnt the fact that more people will be off work mean they have more time to spend on the exchanges? Or is the opposite true?

Possibly because many speculators buy and sell while they are sitting at their computers at work.

If they are out at a BBQ and watching fireworks or traveling with the kids to the beach for the long weekend they are definitely NOT buying and selling bitcoins.

We will probably see reduced volume, but who know which way the market will go.
787  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3 BFL FPGA Singles, escrow provided by John K. on: July 02, 2013, 07:51:59 PM
I'll give you 3.5 BTC total for all 3.
788  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Avalon ASICs on: July 02, 2013, 07:16:50 PM
No one is going to send you a machine worth $15k without using escrow.

And then you attack the person who suggests it.

You must think we are all idiots.

Take your scam elsewhere.

fwiw, I will buy the Avalon you would sell to him for 88 BTC for 100 BTC and I will use escrow.
789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevoss Twins File to Launch Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Product on: July 02, 2013, 05:36:00 PM
Wow so they are selling ALL their coins for a maximum amount of Fiat dollars and some find that its good news..

Sure, they are bulls in denial; grasping every last straw of hope for a news that will make the price rebound.
 Wink

No, this is GREAT news.

This will greatly expand the bitcoin market by allowing many more people participate in bitcoin, which is one of it's biggest problems today.

Presently, you need to be awfully computer savvy just to buy a single bitcoin.

Those 200,000 coins will be bought up very quickly. This is extremely good news for bitcoin. If bitcoin is going to survive, institutional investors need to get involved and this is finally a way they can.
790  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will be bitcoin price in one month ? on: July 02, 2013, 04:40:03 PM
I like how in these polls people vote what they want bitcoin to be at rather than what they actually believe bitcoin will be at.

so true Smiley But I voted 25$ And you could also notice that 50% think that bitcoin would be below 50$

No, 50% believe that bitcoin will be below $100.

The poll is unclear. If I think bitcoin will be at $75, do I vote $50 or $100?

792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach $10 on: July 02, 2013, 03:18:15 PM
It will never reach $10 because I would buy up all the bitcoins at $11.
793  Economy / Speculation / Re: MTGOX is drowning, we are gonna see bottom soon on: July 02, 2013, 07:46:40 AM
Stop the spread of FUD.

You shouldn't have initiated the withdrawal if you didn't want to withdraw your money!
794  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will go back up tonight on: July 02, 2013, 12:05:15 AM
Sure, bounces and bull traps are always expected. But you can kiss triple digit goodbye.

That statement is meaningless without a time frame.

Will it hit triple digits in the next 24 hours? Probably not.

In the next week though? It is very likely.
For the remainder of 2013. As I've been saying for weeks now.

What? You are saying Bitcoin won't hit $100 for the rest of the year? You're crazy. We'll see $100 again soon, definitely in July and likely much sooner.

no thanks, if bitcoin goes up, i already win

care to put that wager in escrow?

795  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs: 500 GH on order now! on: July 01, 2013, 11:57:21 PM
You can get over 1000 GH from KncMiner for 22k, and would likely receive your mining equipment from them sooner as well.

Wow optomistic much? KNC hasnt shipped a thing but you guys sure are sure they will deliver. Will be interesting to se if they can come through. Im betting no, literally .

Which would you pick:

A company that has consistently mislead it's customers, not kept a single promise, and screwed them over time and time again for over a year.

Or a company that has made it clear that they will under-promise and over-deliver and seem to be doing exactly that so far.

KNC will deliver before a 500 GH/s BFL miner ordered today. There is no doubt in my mind.

BFL said they would clear their years work of pre-orders (65,000 orders or so) in 90 days. It's been well over 30 days and they've shipped just 2 1/2 months of jalapenos and a handful of singles (maybe 2 or 3 weeks worth?). They have a LONG way to go.
796  Economy / Goods / Re: What you wanna buy using bitcoin? on: July 01, 2013, 09:48:31 PM
I would like to buy endangered animal meat. Also an Apple Thunderbolt display.
797  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How much Avalon batch#2 ASIC is really worth now? on: July 01, 2013, 08:54:17 PM
It can't do anything but mine bitcoins.

Right now, I'd say a used batch 2 Avalon miner is worth maybe about 120 coins. Plus or minus 20 coins because it's hard to say what is going to happen with difficulty in the near term.

799  Economy / Speculation / Re: Never think that it "can't go lower than this"... on: July 01, 2013, 07:53:43 PM
Why didn't ! sell at $265!?

The reason it went up so hugely is because so few of us sold at that time.
People that sell after making a decent profit sold long before $ 265.  I mean, this bubble started at $10, if you are still holding after price goes x20, then chances are good you are still holding at x26 ...
I was actually planning on selling a large chunk of my coins the following week (based on media attention), but bubble popped sooner than I thought, probably everybody was thinking the same...

Yes, excatly. I need to remember this. I bought at $10. My brother was laughing at me for not selling at $200+, but then I reminded him that he told me to sell at $49 a few months ago! Had I listened to him I wouldn't even be hold at $92 now! I DID sell 50 coins at $200 but that was just a small drop in the bucket.

Its possible that you win 7 times the lottery and you die 1 second after?
Yes.

That would be ironic. Don't ya think?
