81  Other / Meta / Re: Why do so many Questions go UNANSWERED by forum Officials? on: May 03, 2014, 06:07:19 AM
I also wonder why theymos doesn't answer a lot of things... as far as I can tell he must just be a busy guy

Don't you think with the money he brings in he could hire an assistant?   Wink

It couldn't be too hard to get a mod to help with some admin work... I suggested that over a week ago and haven't heard anything  Undecided

83  Other / Meta / Re: MPOE-PR Perma-Banned after warning, Temp Ban more appropriate? on: May 02, 2014, 04:04:56 PM
MPOE-PR was so negative and condescending all the time. Glad she is gone.
Boo hoo.
Not so rugged, this man.

Quote
With that being said, was she really in a porno? Links?
Doubt it; I have seen most porn in existence, and I would have recognized her nose anywhere.

So you seriously left me negative feedback because you did not agree with something I said?

Grow the fuck up kid. Your little buddy is gone.

Ass clown.

I believe you may be in need of some growing up as well.
84  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [NETFLIX ACCOUNTS] ***LIFETIME GUARANTEE*** on: May 01, 2014, 02:50:23 PM
These accounts are not stolen.
To be honest. I get them from a friend. Ill ask him for proof.

So you don't know they're not stolen?
85  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [NETFLIX ACCOUNTS] ***LIFETIME GUARANTEE*** on: May 01, 2014, 01:24:49 AM
Let me know where they're from then, otherwise the thread is going away because I'll assume they are stolen.
86  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] 1TH SHA256 ASIC - 2450 USD [IN STOCK!] on: April 30, 2014, 06:07:07 PM
Why aren't you using escrow for this?

I would not trust a newbie on the forum asking for money for a group buy.
87  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Timer on: April 30, 2014, 06:05:01 PM
If you are interested in investment buy bitcoins at low price and sell at high price.

Holy crap, is that how you make money!?!?!?!?!?
88  Other / Meta / Re: ABUSE OF TRUST SYSTEM - whiskers75 on: April 30, 2014, 02:54:23 PM
whiskers75 has left me negative feedback from some while ago with no reference.. The user is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=56964

Actually just out of reference I'm pretty sure it had a working reference - I do remember looking at it was some months back. Considering that it's missing now (and the thread is not self-moderated) the only logical conclusion would be to assume you deleted it. Would you mind explaining why? Also, if it was an innocent post I don't see why one would delete it or at least raise the issue then (three and a half months ago). I dunno, seems a bit suspicious to me.

I heard that mods can see deleted post and all edit history.
So, maybe we could have a mod taking a look at that post...

It may not be okay to make that post public to us, but at least the mod can tell us what kind of post is that, like scam or personal insult or something else.

Only theymos can do that AFAIK, good luck getting a response!
89  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why do you allow scammers to continue to be bitcointalk staff ? on: April 29, 2014, 11:21:52 PM
lol clap clap

you've made your mind up already... so lets not kid ourselves

I know that you know I'm logical and fair so think about this for a second...

If you're going to call someone a scammer, you should really have clear and easily understood proof.  Otherwise how do we know you're telling the truth?

91  Other / Meta / Re: May I know the criteria of being a Moderator ? on: April 23, 2014, 11:39:47 AM
I'd imagine some of the staff also have a place to put in their own input and recommendations on who should become a moderator.
Not really, except for local mods where he doesn't know the language. Like all things theymos, he acts on his own. So far, that's turned out okay, so I don't really see it as a bad thing.

Hmm, you are right, it has mostly turned out okay (except a couple). Surprising that there is no mod input on the matter, though, I would've thought that there would be.

There's little mod input on many decisions... or notice about changes either!
92  Other / Meta / Re: Why I am turning my back on bitcointalk. It just doesnt work anymore. on: April 21, 2014, 05:11:43 PM
With the increasing popularity of Bitcoin, and the exponential increase of members on the forum, removing the restrictions was a mistake.
Yes, there are other issues at hand too, but this would decrease the amount of newbie spam/puppets.

Such as people like you using the forums as a chatroom to make money with paid signatures.
93  Other / Meta / Re: Proxy blocking forum sponsor PIA?!? on: April 20, 2014, 06:59:59 PM
It's because someone using that VPN exit server got banned or nuked.  Have him try connecting to a different server and registering or posting.
94  Other / Meta / Re: Why is the moderation so lame? on: April 20, 2014, 03:45:21 AM
They are pretty decent at removing spam I guess.

Would be good to see some autonomy and decision making for themselves but always have to get approval or permission from theymos which hinders smooth, efficient moderation

Actually mods have a fair amount of autonomy on anything related to posts.  Though temp bans have to be run up the chain.

...6) or talk some serious shit about the Green Bay Packers!

It has been hacked like a week ago and so far no answer from the PMs i sent to Theymos, i'm still waiting.

Sadly all you can really do is wait since theymos is the only admin

98  Other / New forum software / Re: Just cannot believe the price on: April 15, 2014, 05:27:21 PM
From my perspective it looks like this:

you make a thread: "Re: Just cannot believe the price"

with main post
Just cannot believe the price, just wanted to comment on that. Seems unrealistic.

and from your answers I am guessing you are eating a glue rather than us.
Smiley

Regards.

Look at the sub-forum the post is in, think for a moment, everything falls into place!  pekv2 is clearly not talking about the BTC price but the cost of the new forum software.

I think you may the glue eater and/or sniffer  Tongue
99  Other / Meta / Re: Why I am turning my back on bitcointalk. It just doesnt work anymore. on: April 14, 2014, 07:41:13 PM

I agree with you on pretty much all points, this place has gone downhill a lot since 2011/2012.  Changes need to be made, but theymos either ignores suggestions/changes or just doesn't want to implement them.  The old hands off attitude used to work a lot better when there weren't tons of people around, but times have changed.

Do you mean in regards to newbie spam, or in regards to scamming?
The former would be easier to deal with (e.g increase waiting time between posts to half an hour for newbies and jr. members, or autoban or auto-tempban accounts if they have more than a dozen posts deleted in a 24 hour period), but I don't really see a solution to the latter without us having much more work, getting more mods, and severely limiting other users' freedom.

A little bit of both but mostly the newbie spam, removing the requirements has increased the noise a lot.  I'm not sure how we could (easily) cut down on the scamming, but that would be nice to do too.  Overall I think we might just need to be a little stricter with moderation.

+8000

you forgot scammers can scam, run free, come back and repeat. I understand the forum isnt responsible to track them down, nor should they... but jesus christ, ban them or something... do something.....  You can't just wipe hands clean because you have a disclaimer.

i used to enjoy coming here and reading some of the stuff back in 2012 and early-mid 2013.
but the fact the scammers are allowed to do what ever the hell they wont without being banned is beyond any logic and makes me sick.
fark half the time its staff members who are running the scams.

It seems like every forum rule change is to enable more people to scam.. i.e no scammer tag, trust system which allowed mods, and people on default trust list to scam, no newbie restrictions....

and the disclaimer under advertisements prooves the forum had a think about how the ads there running is assisting in helping people to get scammed.. but they thought... fuck it, we make money off this!!! lets just put a disclaimer in!

I'll await some mod/staff who has probably ran some "security" into the ground and lost all "investor" bitcoins to come to the defense, as normal.

Ive been using this forum for 4 years or so now, with different accounts,  I used to spend several hours every day on here and early on actually read most posts, but its just become unusable to me, its impossible to keep up with the flood of posts, and 99% of them just arent worth reading. Whats worse is that its impossible to find the few posts that are worth reading.

Part of this is due to bitcoin going more mainstream and logically creating a lot of new users,  but whats greatly exacerbating the problem is forum policy and forum software.

The policy that allows users to put spam in their signature and have casino's and what not pay out (newbie/alt account) posters based on how much (nonsense) they post each day is the straw that broke the camel's back. At least 2/3 of the activity I see is just alt accounts posting whatever in order to boost their activity and collect more bitcoins for their signature spam. How this is allowed is beyond me.

Another part of the problem is the relaxed newbie restrictions; with so many new accounts being registered every day, the bar to post should be raised, not lowered. Who wants to see 16 newbie spam accounts push down some of the rare pearls of wisdom, say posts by DeathandTaxes to the point where you cant possibly find them?

Finally the forum software thats absolutely unhelpful. Despite the fact that Theymos was given enough money to buy a medium sized software development company, in all these years, it hasnt improved one meaningful yota. The few changes that were made, made things worse, not better (think trust system)

Its really sad but these days I need to get my bitcoin updates from google news or reddit.
