441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Adoption Problem on: October 16, 2013, 03:53:12 AM
One advantage at present is that you can still be the first merchant of X product to accept bitcoin, or first merchant in Y location to accept bitcoin and generate a bit of buzz that way, and list your store on various bitcoin sites, and hopefully get some new customers that way.

Yes, possible but not likely in my village of mostly agrarian neighbors.

lol.  If I mention BTC to most of the folks around here I either get a puzzled look or else they say 'oh yeah.  That place where you buy guns, drugs, and pictures of nekkid wimmin'.

Not adopting because it's not right for your area [yet] is much different than not adopting because there's no good reason.  It's definitely not ready for widespread use yet, but it will get there.
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Adoption Problem on: October 16, 2013, 03:32:51 AM
Many retailers accept BTC and then turn it into fiat on the spot.  It is a step you can do until your vendors start to do the same.

Absolutely.  However, I don't see any advantage in that unless the customer only has BTC to purchase with.

Cheaper processing fees than credit cards.
443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The NEXT generation of Physical Bitcoins... on: October 15, 2013, 11:10:21 PM
From the website:  "In fact, you can report a theft to our security team and the coins in question will be deactivated, leaving the crook with goods that are flagged as stolen.  For a nominal fee, we’ll even transfer the value of your stolen coin to a replacement coin and send it out to you."

Woah, hold up.  So you're saying that you can control the usage/activation of the bitcoin from your homebase there, Titan?

Pardon me, but that's a little frightening that at any time you could change your mind and simply deactivate all the Titan coins out there and buy yourself an island somewhere.

I thought the 2FA requirement would queue everyone in to the centralization of this system.

@OP Good idea, bad implementation?  Seems that way a little, you're basically selling bitcoin IOUs instead of actual bitcoins.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) really now accepting bitcoin ----Yes, it's really! on: October 15, 2013, 06:54:17 PM
Duplicate thread, locking this one.
445  Other / Meta / Re: We need a "No begging" policy... on: October 15, 2013, 03:38:58 PM
So is this the case, no begging now?

I thought we could express anything other than calling for acts of violance.

I have seen mods edit peoples posts so searched for this. Anyway odd there is a note about not removing scams but you guys get rid of begging...

I don't usually delete being posts, just remove the addresses and make a note.  I make notes on potential scams as well.

Have you devised a defense against the solvent attack, demonstrated at this summer's DefCon?
http://codinginmysleep.com/casascius-physical-bitcoins-cracked-at-defcon/

2-factor authentication is built in.  You can't redeem a coin without also having access to an email address that the coin is registered to.  A new owner can immediately change that registration info and protect the coin's value from being swept by someone that previously owned the coin.

Sounds like a lot of work for a physical coin  Undecided
447  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Stolen 92 BTC - will you DONATE or HELP ? RAISED 0/92BTC on: October 15, 2013, 02:46:34 AM
I'm just curious why you've never mentioned this before...

You have a gap in your posting history from June 30 2011 till February 18 2013.  It's a little odd to me that you're saying this happened June 15 2012.

EDIT:
Just looked again and realized it was mentioned on February 18 2013.  I'm guessing this was either a bought or hacked account though.
448  Other / Meta / Re: what... ? why... banned ?? on: October 14, 2013, 11:13:22 PM
You using tor? Probably using tor.

no tor used. just regular vpn.

449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Removing old coin uncertainty on: October 14, 2013, 02:00:07 PM
Rehash of a stupid idea... something like this will never go into effect.
450  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying bitcoin with a creditcard and no id verification? on: October 14, 2013, 12:50:35 AM
I don't think you'll find anywhere to buy bitcoins with stolen credit cards.  The transactions are going to be reversed, so no one will take you unverified.
451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did my old posts get wiped? on: October 14, 2013, 12:48:26 AM
The odds are you posted on a different account.
452  Other / Meta / Re: New Forum Registration disabled ? on: October 13, 2013, 02:28:06 PM

I've tried uploading various formats and sizes of an avatar and have tried hot-linking it to Wikipedia, but neither work.

That feature is disabled right now.

That would be great, slowly we won't need currency any more.

Bitcoin is currency!
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Britain has seized Bitcoins? on: October 09, 2013, 04:26:40 PM
Well its one way of getting 51%, keep seizing it. It only becomes a matter of time. Of course they will offer a nice choice too sing or do double the time.

You mention 51%... but I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Do different staff members get different payments based on the sections they are moderating, or something like that?

Only theymos knows the payment algorithm.
different mods do get different payments then?

Yup, it's based off of what you do.

458  Other / Meta / Re: Usability problems for new users on: October 09, 2013, 02:18:29 PM
Newbie jail should be removed, what's the point of spamming 5 post in newbie section?

Someone hasn't read about how it works now... it only takes 1 post and 4 hours of waiting after that post.
459  Other / Meta / Re: Usability problems for new users on: October 09, 2013, 01:57:50 PM
  • It was extremely difficult to find out about the newbie jail policy. I actually had to Google to find the answer. Possible solution: send a welcome e-mail outlining the limitations.

It tells you about the jail policy when you register.
460  Other / Off-topic / Re: Great Zyzz Topic on: October 09, 2013, 01:28:28 PM
If my main comp wasn't down I'm sure I'd have a good image for this thread... trying to fix it tonight so perhaps later.
