261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 4x 280x GPU motherboard question on: January 11, 2014, 04:54:46 PM
More than one 6 pin for powered risers makes sense... when I had a 5x 5830 (I think that was the card) I had some issues because the risers weren't powered.  1500w PSU should be enough to support 4x 280X, right?
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 4x 280x GPU motherboard question on: January 11, 2014, 03:15:23 PM
AMD (AM3/3+) -Asrock 970 Extreme4

Any idea if you'll need powered risers or not for that one?  I can't remember when you do and do not need them, been way too long since I've GPU mined.

Thanks

No, neither. That's a completely different question to what I asked and what is asked here all the time. Unless (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ is meant to mean something.

You're right, that's what I get for posting while still half asleep.  I think my reading comprehension is at a 2nd grade level for the first 30 minutes after I wake up.

265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Scrypt Farm Graphics Card Question on: January 11, 2014, 02:58:44 AM
Radeon 280X 3GB: $365 Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD REV2
Radeon 7970 3GB: $385 XFX-797AD

Which one should I buy 10-30 of to use for building out a mining farm?  And any suggestions for 3 or 4 cards per rig, and what size PSU to use?

Is it definitely a bot? I wasn't sure, but I think he might've just been doing it manually and BadBear thought the same (unless new evidence has come to light).

It's a bot or someone acting like a bot, so pretty much the same thing... gone now.

Why are you literally citing me?

It's a spam bot that copies part of a post then replies with it, the account is being banned.
268  Other / Meta / Re: Images in signatures. on: January 10, 2014, 03:38:59 PM
I don't think we're at too big of a risk seeing that image everywhere... considering that guy hasn't been online since March 2012.

Yeah, but not if people keep necro-ing his posts Grin. There's a few other sig images dotted around.

Out of interest, what was the reason for removing them?

The same reason we're thinking about getting rid of signature advertising... it was super fucking annoying.

In the light of the GHash-pool issue, let's get this thread from 2011 here back.

I guess the market share hasn't worked out too well for Deepbit...:

The point of bringing this thread back is ...?

272  Other / Meta / Re: Meta these days... on: January 10, 2014, 01:38:52 PM
My general rule for the newbie section is alts/gambling/advertisements by non-newbies get moved, most other junk gets to stick around.  Depending on they day the one word 'hello' threads sometimes have work done on them too.
273  Other / Meta / Re: Paid signatures poll on: January 10, 2014, 12:45:56 AM
Why don't we just limit all signatures to one line 12pt black standard font.

Or just eliminate signatures altogether. They seem like pointless spam even when it isn't a paid advertisement.

I like that option, because I can't think of a good reason for them to stick around!

I'd like to post my opinion in here but don't want to be labled a spammer or be mocked by my postcount ratio lol.

Obviously I'm in favour of keeping them, but I agree people who copy and paste replies etc need to be warned. If the rules are enforced stricter then spam shouldn’t be a problem. There are several members in the primedice thread who would be happy to report people to Stunna or the mods for spamming. What are the rules on spamming exactly? Is it a reportable offence? I haven’t reported any posts yet but I would if I get some clarity on this.
Yes, it is a reportable offence.

You sure about this? I'd like clarification from a mod, but either way it's hard to define what is and what isn't spam.

Spamming is a reportable (and bannable) offense.  It is hard to define what is and isn't spam, but I'm willing to bet a lot of your content is more towards spam.  I find it hard to believe that you (or anyone who posts that much) really has that much to contribute to the forums.
277  Other / Meta / Re: Paid signatures poll on: January 08, 2014, 04:02:32 PM
There's rarely an occasion when you see a thread with a few people in it WITHOUT A PRIMEDICE AD.
These need to go, or at least ban PrimeDice - it's getting out of control, and spambots are signing up just to take advantage of this deal.

Why does it really matter? Why wouldn't people have a paid signature - they get paid to post whether they make 50 posts a month or 2000. As long as it's not spam, then it shouldn't be an issue. Turn sigs off if it's such an annoyance to you.

And do you have any proof of actual spambots, because I haven't seen any?

How can you even be taken seriously in this discussion?

You joined the forum on Nov 20, 2013 and have made 2924 posts... making for over 59 posts a day on average.
278  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC hits 5,000 in 2014 on: January 08, 2014, 03:48:42 AM
1. Bitcoin is really the only established cryptocurrency out there right now.

Do you believe in the concept of cryptocurrencies? Then you should realize that eventually somebody will out-innovate Bitcoin and as such overcome Bitcoin's network effect.

Please explain further, when do you expect this to happen? Any candidates to date?

I don't think it will be for a while, but Bitcoin will not be forever.
279  Other / Meta / Re: Ignore Highlights Disabled on: January 08, 2014, 01:57:06 AM
I remember way too much random crap in meta...

If the feature was written as:
-For every thread page of 20 posts that someone views:
 -for every user that posted:
-look through every other user's ignore list and add up the times that user has been ignored

That's basically how it works because the ignore mod (which I didn't write) stupidly stores ignore info in a single column per user like "35,3,...". So each ignore button needs to scan through all established users. The cost of this used to be very little, but it has increased substantially as the number of users has increased. I added a lot of caching long ago to offset this, but the cost is too high now even for that. I need to mostly rewrite the ignore mod so it stores data more sanely. No too difficult, but it requires a somewhat large uninterrupted block of time, which I don't have right now.

tl;dr It's disabled for now because of being too processor intensive.
