801  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 199 on: February 04, 2017, 03:36:37 PM
I think it is probably safe to say that this guy's bid is going to be rejected, or at least that it should be.

Its very safe to say that their bid will be rejected. Their site is a scam. Unless Theymos hits his head and decides to accept their bids, its safe to assume that their bids aren't valid.
802  Other / Meta / Re: Should bumping a post only to lock it afterward be permitted? on: February 04, 2017, 05:37:34 AM
Why not use the forum's self moderation feature if the goal is to prevent others from posting? The self moderation feature is dedicated for such a thing and even gives other users viewing the thread a warning whereas lock-posting can be used to deceive, especially provided that there's no public log or warning. Especially for past activity that could be completely fabricated in a thread with this technique.

That would probably be ideal, though its their own choice I suppose. Some people don't know how to use the self moderation feature, I guess some people just don't want to bother moderating people's posts in the first place, so they decide to just lock their threads to keep replies out. If someone is doing something they shouldn't be doing, and you can't post directly in their thread, you just make a new thread yourself.

I don't really see how bump and locking one's own thread is any worse than self moderation. If someone's intentions are to deceive, they are going to do it one way or another, don't be fooled, leave them feedback on their trust page, or create a thread to let people know.
803  Other / Meta / Re: Should bumping a post only to lock it afterward be permitted? on: February 04, 2017, 02:47:56 AM
There is a rule about deleting old bumps that could (/should) be exercised here.

While thats another topic, old bumps should be deleted if the post is solely for the purpose of bumping your thread. If one of your bumps is adding additional details to your thread, you don't necessarily need to delete it.

Unless I misunderstood, the topic of the OP is about bumps and locking a thread in order to keep other people from posting in it in regards to censoring info, keeping people from making scam accusations, etc. If I'm misunderstanding, if you could clarify I'll take another crack at it. If I'm not, see my first post.
804  Other / Meta / Re: Should bumping a post only to lock it afterward be permitted? on: February 04, 2017, 02:38:39 AM
The fact that there's no limit on how often a post can be locked by its OP allows for users to bump their own threads continuously without any interruption.

I've noticed several instances in which this is abused, but just to showcase how I think that thread locking at its current state can be abused: Here's an example where OP keeps posting in his own thread advertising a service of very dubious reputation without allowing any discussion.

I don't see why not, as long as they are only bumping once per day. Thats not much different than self moderated threads the way I see it. If you have something you need to say regarding a topic, but the OP isn't allowing you to do so either because they keep locking their topic or their thread is self moderated, make your own thread with regards to it.

Neat! Bitcoin cult.

You didn't really say what you group was about besides using technology. If that's your qualification, I think everyone in the world is already a member. You want donations to create a new bible telling the truth. In other words, you are going to hire some people to snip some info out of National Geographic's articles about the earth, and a couple of kid friendly science magazines to tell people that the earth is round and more than 6,000 years old, the moon isn't a hole in the sky, and that humans likely evolved from apes.

Shouldn't you just call yourself a science club then? How are you any different than any already established science society? There are already quite a few to choose from.
807  Other / Off-topic / Re: Eternalize a signed Bitcoin message here on: February 03, 2017, 10:17:04 PM
You should be really careful about making a thread for signed Bitcoin messages. If you don't make them specific enough, you could end up making an easy thread for scammers to find sources for BTC identity theft.

If you sign a message that says, "I am the owner of this account" for example, someone can just copy and paste that message and use it. That said, hopefully people are smart enough to ask for a specific signed message asking for "I am the owner of this account *insert date and time*" but still.
808  Other / Meta / Re: Where one would could post about a legit investment service ? on: February 03, 2017, 10:13:55 PM
If you are posting looking for investments, you could try the securities, or long term investment section of the lending section:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=78.0

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=88.0

You can also try service announcements if none of those fit.

809  Economy / Goods / Re: Best place to purchase gold/silver bullion in Canada? on: February 03, 2017, 05:12:48 AM
APMEX.com will ship to Canada, minimum order is $250 via credit card though. Providentmetals.com also ships to Canada.

I've ordered from both, and find them both reliable. APMEX tends to be slightly more expensive than elsewhere, but they have one of the best selections. Provident is a fine middle ground for selection and price.
810  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] HUGE LOT OF COINS on: February 02, 2017, 01:38:06 AM
So I'm just reading this thread for giggles, take it as a free bump I guess, but my OCD is refusing to let this go, not out of grammar nazism, but due to the comedy gold.

Why do you want to know about the goats sex "health" ??

Are you looking to abuse my goat?? Are you a goat abuser??

If you look closely, there is a comma between sex, and general health of the goat. Meaning I am wondering the goats gender and it's general health

I know there are many non English speaking  individuals on this fourm, TMAN maybe you should read up on how commas work

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/commas.htm

I am by no means an English major, but I will do my best to answer any questions you have relating to commas and their usage

Here is your quote that is referenced to

Well you own the goat so I thought you possibly had a farm or something.

Who do you want to use as escrow? Would wheels work? I live close by them, we wouldn't have to pay any shipping.

While I guess it really depends on the type of goat, its age, its sex and general health

Like I would be more willing to trade for a  poor health verata as opposed to a a healthy sable.

What kind of goat(s) do you have and are willing to trade?

The bolded section there is read as "its sex and general health" meaning its sex health and general health, there is no comma. So TMan's concern is valid!

All of that said, this is one weird thread. Besides the strange format auction and (joke?) animal bartering, you also seem to be at the least showing intent to purchase deer jerky and Zimbabwe dollars. I would say I'm a tad bit confused, but amused is probably a better way to spell that.
811  Other / Meta / Re: part of BCTalk on: February 01, 2017, 06:43:15 PM
If you want to be the moderator for a specific section, it probably would help to be an active and well contributing member of that section. Report posts as appropriate, conduct yourself relatively well, be helpful, and understand the rules. Most new moderators require a little bit of time to adjust to it, so its not like you need to know EVERY single detail immediately, but at least know when to ask other moderators if you have a question. You essentially want to get Theymos' attention, though I will note, being banned for spamming or other rule breaking probably isn't a good way to get that attention.

Asking to be a moderator just about never helps, unless you want to be the moderator of a local section that uses a foreign language. Then that local community is pretty much asked who they would all be happy having as a moderator, and suggestions are accepted then.

813  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Year of the Rabbit Gold/Silver Coins on: January 31, 2017, 03:58:31 PM
Are you sure? i mean if you buy both of the Kilo rounds, pay salty, then send them to me ill triple that $30 face value so you won't have to worry about it, that's $90 each man!!!

Smiley lol

Hell I'm getting tempted!  Grin
814  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Year of the Rabbit Gold/Silver Coins on: January 31, 2017, 12:42:08 AM
Since it says $30 on it, does that mean I could spend it somewhere that accepts CAD? I am not too sure of the laws on CAD stuff, but I know in the USA a private mint cant put a $1 on a coin.

killyou72, if you buy each of the silver kilo's ill pay you double the $30 face value on each for them , so $60 each Smiley

just let me know !

Woah, some fancy deal making going on here. It all seems reasonable and fair to me. killyou72, I'd pull the trigger.
815  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Year of the Rabbit Gold/Silver Coins on: January 31, 2017, 12:02:06 AM
Will you do a deal for both golds shipped to the UK ?

Sure, shoot me a PM with an offer if you would like.
816  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Year of the Rabbit Gold/Silver Coins on: January 30, 2017, 11:22:47 PM

They have a face value of $30 AUD. What makes them coins and not rounds is that they are legal tender in Australia. The Perth mint is under the authority of the Australian government, and has the ability to mint bullion that is legal tender. The 1/10th oz Gold rabbits also have a legal face value of $15 AUD.

You are correct, private mints in the USA cannot put $1 on a coin, but US Silver eagles do have a legal $1 face value, and for that reason, you could technically go to a grocery store in the US, and hand them a silver eagle in exchange for a $1 candy bar.

Ah jeez, I totally missed the 1 kilogram part LOL.. I was staring at the pic for a few minutes there just going wait, that looks like a 2 oz privateer??? what??? Cheesy

Too funny, those are like plates, not coins! Cheesy

Heh, yeah the heft is even more impressive in person. I honestly am afraid that I'll drop one on my foot and break it in half. Well it will hurt really bad anyway. The James bond scenes with the hat throwing villain that can take off heads comes to mind. Though, if you tossed one of these, the damage would probably be a lot worse.
817  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 Year of the Rabbit Gold/Silver Coins on: January 30, 2017, 10:09:41 PM
Perth Mint makes such nice coins.

I agree completely, as far as consistent quality goes, I find Perth to be the best mint in the world. There are some other designs out there that I may like better than what Perth has put out, but as far as quantity of coins they have produce that have made my top 20 list, they take a lot of the slots. You can't go wrong with the Lunar series in general.

Can you post a photo of the silver with something to reference it's size?

Sure can, I found the photo I took of them previously.

the other coin in the picture there is a 2 oz round, for reference.

update: The 1 KG Silver rabbits are sold

Hi, today I'm offering (2) 1 Kilogram silver 2011 Year of the Rabbit Silver Coins (or should I say plates?) made by the Perth mint, as well as (2) 1/10th oz Gold MS70 ANACS graded 2011 Year of the Rabbit coins. The 1 Kilogram silver rabbits come in mint airtites containers. Shipping to the US is free, if you are outside the US we can figure it out. If you are outside of the US, please make sure you are aware of any import taxes or restrictions your country charges.

For each 1/10th oz gold, I'm looking for
And for each 1 Kilogram silver, I'm looking for

I'm not sure where I put the photo of the silver ones, so I'll snap a better picture shortly. Until then, I just attached a stock photo.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, grievances, bellyaching, or if you need life advice, feel free to ask. Of those, if they aren't relatively well related to the thread, send them via pm rather than posting here.

820  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] DECRED Limited Edition Collectible coins only 100 Minted "Gold Coin" on: January 29, 2017, 10:58:21 PM
mmmm, so I'm interested in a few things mentioned in the OP. You said its 1 troy ounce of pure gold, but "plated in antique gold finish" could you elaborate a bit on that? Obviously I'm also curious in the price, do you mean it will be 100 Decred over the gold weight value? And final question, is this a preorder type of deal, or are you fronting ~$130k+ to the mint and then selling the coins after they are in your possession?

Sign me up for one as well based on your current info  Tongue
