Trusting someone with "pirate" in their name is about as ass backwards as looking for peace through war.

Ha! I like this guy already!
802  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have a TON of Free Power and 15 i5/i7 Computers on: December 06, 2012, 08:53:12 PM
With so many BTC miners moving their GPU rigs to LTC I doubt it will be long before CPU mining is unprofitable.

You would probably be better off selling the systems if you can and then invest the money either in coins or in hardware to mine

Wow! thats insane!!!

Whats the purpose of that tower? I didnt read the article linked above
804  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Reward Half without ASICs = Bad for miners? on: December 04, 2012, 12:16:12 PM
So this is more of a question to those people who WANTED the ASICs to be delayed to extract more from their GPU rigs: Do you still feel the same way?

Here's who is happy right now.

Has investment in GPU rigs, pays about half or less of the average eletric rate (average is $0.15 per kWh so pays $.075 or less), is not likely to be among the first ones to receive an ASIC.

The longer this drags on at current BTC/USD and difficulty levels, the longer those GPUs will remain profitable.

As soon as ASICs ship, even those remaining mining on GPUs will find that the GPUs are no longer useful.

I have about 2GH/s worth of GPUs but only pay $.07 in electric so Im still profitable. Also I have been mining on coinlab almost since they started so I have a few weeks worth of points saved up.

Im one of the ones who wanted ASICs to be delayed, however I am also within the first 25 orders for a bASIC.
805  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] CoinLab Protected Pool on: December 04, 2012, 12:10:33 PM
are shares been still earned here or stopped as of the date said on first page or was that for new people ?

You can still earn shares here just like any other 95% PPS pool, you just can not earn loyalty points.

very cool! will look into this!
807  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Who is turning off? on: November 30, 2012, 11:58:27 AM
My Sapphire 5850 used to mine at 780Mhz 0.85v, about 325Mh/s.

I played with it for a bit last night but can not get the voltage to change. Im using cgminer in BAMT. Used --gpu-vddc .95,.95,1.0,.95 but it wouldnt even start to mine. (5850, 5850, 5770, 5850). Also dropped my clocks to 600, nothing....
808  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Who is turning off? on: November 29, 2012, 09:40:32 PM
I think undervolting is my task for this weekend. I have 2 rigs, 6 5850s and a 5770 between them. ~2.3gh/s total.

Any idea what an undervolted 5850 will hash at? or what wattage it will pull?

Back on topic:
About 50% of what I make I spend in electric, so Im still in the green. I'll continue mining/heating the house atleast until spring. Depending on the ASIC/difficulty/price I'll decide what to do then.
809  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ebay scam on selling used cards - the 0 feedback bidder trick on: November 29, 2012, 08:20:21 PM
I dont sell much on ebay so maybe this is a dumb question, but how is this a scam? I also dont mean to sound like a dick here. I understand how this is annoying in the wasted time but as long as you wait on payment before shipping what does the buyer/scammer gain by doing this?

Why does the Wikimedia Foundation not currently accept Bitcoin? The Wikimedia Foundation, as a donor-driven organization, has a fiduciary duty to be responsible and prudent with its money. This has been interpreted to mean that we do not accept ‘artificial’ currencies – that is, those not backed by the full faith and credit of an issuing government. We do, however, strive to provide as many methods of donating as possible and continue to monitor Bitcoin with interest and may revisit this position should circumstances change.

Ive also been here awhile and have about 4.6million points which I figure should last me over 100 days with my 2.3Gh/s. However, I did use 2 MMQs to help collect these points and have since traded them in and I used a few hashpower leases adn pointed them here during the 100%+ payout times.
812  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Here comes the day EVERY pool operator dreads.... on: November 29, 2012, 01:56:54 AM
As much as we dont want to see it, I think in the future it will be common place to have pools with much higher fees. Pools with low fees will fall away and miners will be forced to either pay higher fees or solo mine.
813  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] CoinLab Protected Pool on: November 29, 2012, 01:48:04 AM

There is a two-year expiration date on loyalty points from the time we cross below the price floor.  Because the crossing of the threshold was caused by the block reward halving, Loyalty Points will expire two years from today - 11/28/2014.

Interesting aside.  Wink  If I had Loyalty Points, I would probably wait until ASICs hit if I was still mining profitably. However, if I was planning on ebaying my GPUs before they become depreciated from obsolescence, maybe squeezing them for all they got as fast as possible is the way to go.  Tough call. I'd love to hear more about other people's strategies.

I don't think most miners that are on CoinLab are planning to Ebay their gear.  There is a rumor floating around about some company that is supposedly developing a custom client for GPUs to do HPC work.  No proof of this yet of course.   Grin

Ha! Smiley

My plan is to hang onto my points for a bit. Currently roughly 50% of what I make goes to electric costs and the rest is profit as my GPUs paid for them selves just recently  Grin They are also helping heat the house this winter.
814  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mobile car-based mining operation entirely possible on: November 28, 2012, 06:15:10 PM
This idea crossed my mind but in the sense that I could drive and pickup my ASIC rather than it being shipped to me. I could mine on the way home and gain an extra day or so. But then I decided I didnt feel like driving that far.

Sorry but that's just human greed in pure, raw form.

I never claimed it wasnt. In fact i can openly admit that the sole reason I started mining was to turn a profit. yes the idea is cool, but Im not going to drop $5k plus the time/effort setting up and maintaining a GPU/FPGA/ASIC farm just because its "cool". Maybe you have money to burn like that and if so great! Send some my way!
815  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think that there is something funny about BFL's new ASIC on: November 28, 2012, 05:03:42 PM
So did I or did I not say January!
Here is a quote from BFL's admin:

I really can't express the depth of how incredibly pissed off I am about this project (as I am sure you are as well). After hours of meetings and discussions today with my engineering team I don't see any possible way we will be able to release the bASIC before mid January.

Um, thats not BFL, thats BitcoinASIC/BTCFPGA/Tom/Cablepair talking about his product called bASIC.

Im sure some will not like this decision but I think it makes sense.

I had tried installing from source on Ubuntu and failed hard. The PPA is 10x easier and the way to go...
