801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help identifing any of these addresses on: May 11, 2013, 06:40:55 PM
If my coins went to an exchange the user can be identified and their account can be frozen.

Now just to find out what exchange it is.

How can you prove the coins were really stolen instead of just voluntarily sent by you?
It would be business suicide for any exchange who did what you asked!

If the coins are found on exchange the scammer will be found and the funds will be taken from his account on the exchange.  None of the exchange funds are the exchanges there all funds that other users deposited there.

You still haven't answered my question.
How can you prove the coins were really stolen and that you're not just trying to scam that other user who "owns" the exchange address where the coins were sent to?

Your the same person who posted here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195317.0 remember this thread I was buying ripple and now I got SCAMMED

That just tells me you often make bad decisions. now, forget that thread and let's just talk about this one here.

I'm not going to ask you to prove that it wasn't you who clicked the send button when those coins left your wallet, cause you can't prove a negative, but please tells us:
How are you going to prove to an exchange owner that those coins you talk on the OP were REALLY STOLEN?

The price of gold is merely the ratio between the market value of an ounce of gold and the market value of a dollar.

The price of gold is decided upon by five UK banks every morning over tea, called the gold fix. Author isnt aware of gold economics and yet has a job.

Let me take a wild shot: the same banks who are involved on the LIBOR scandal...

Anyone who doesn't get along with GPG should try gpg4usb.
It's portable, works on windows and linux and it has a GUI very easy to understand.

How about just deleting the entire Alternative Currencies board? Problem solved instead of getting worse. Whoever makes those coins can setup their own forums with their pump-and-dump early mining profits.

And have a pure bitcoin forum with no discussion of altcoins at all? That would be one solution.. but is it likely to happen, realistically?

If not, what else can be done about the problem?

They could still discuss them: on the Off-Topic board.
Now try to follow my thought: what if theymos really decides to delete that entire board and forbid alt coin threads? What will happen to all those homeless dudes who relied on BitcoinTalk.org to discusspump their alt-coin flavour of the day? In the name of decentralization they should setup their own forums on their own domains and servers. They're relying on theymos(and bitcointalk.org staff) too much. Bitcoin by itself is a magnet for problems and trolls, alt coins only aggravate that problem.

808  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin discussions everywhere. on: May 11, 2013, 05:37:00 PM
I hear you.. but does the (lack of) value of altcoins mean they shouldn't have sub forums? If we can separate what we think of altcoins from whether they need sub forums, we might decide that sub forums for altcoins is a useful move for the forum in general.

No doubt new altcoins will be popping up for a while yet, so why not at least try to minimize the increasing chaos of a single altcoin sub forum by giving altcoins individual sub forums? Otherwise surely the problem is only going to get worse..

How about just deleting the entire Alternative Currencies board? Problem solved instead of getting worse.

809  Economy / Reputation / Re: fxmulder's reputation thread on: May 11, 2013, 05:19:06 PM
We are both trying to establish a reputation for being the honest traders that we are, nobody wants to get scammed and it is always a good thing to have a positive history.

You are both very suspicious and I would tell anyone who asked to only deal with any of you 2 when using a good escrow agent with a flawless contract.

I am quitting bitcoin.. Lost bitcoin in bitcoin 24.. lost bitcoin in blockbet.. NOW SOMEONE HACK MY WALLET

He lost BTC on bitcoin-24? Strange... I got my BTC(20.50) from Bitcoin-24 less than 24 hours after having requested them when he reopened the exchange to allow withdrawals.
Not buying a word of what that dude says.

So you could dangle the mining rig away from the station with a long extension power/Ethernet cable.  That should work, right?  The heat would be contained to the unit but it wouldn't bother the humans.  Not sure what the cost of electricity is up there... might not be cost effective to mine.

Rofl.

The cost of collecting electricity with solar panels without having atmosphere interference? I bet it has a better price/power ratio than any of the systems used on Earth.

Trustworthy member, I would not hesitate to send first next time.

Trying to set yourself up to be scammed or just trying to set other users up to be scammed?

Locking this thread.
FFS... Why are you guys replying to a 9 months old thread when the OP isn't even around anymore?

I haven't been here long but I've seen this point raised several times and I still don't now understand the reluctance to create sub forums for altcoins. Surely all most altcoins are simply scams! alternate versions, variations, or flavours of bitcoin by definition?

FTFY

Lol.. thanks.. but seriously, they're all variations on bitcoin to a greater or lesser degree aren't they?

I can appreciate you not liking them, but is that a good reason to not have sub forums for them? Surely sub forums are simply about making the site easier to use for people?

To be honest I only see one alt chain trying to do something different using the Bitcoin codebase and that is Namecoin.
Most others are just pump-and-dump schemes made by fellows who are butthurt for not being a Bitcoin early adopter, like we aren't all early adopters still Wink

Imagine if someone had made a blog post denigrating European history, culture or religion.  Like let's say someone espoused the viewpoint that Europeans caused massive suffering on a global scale for this or that reason (culture, etc.)  Would there be a tremendous hue and cry?  Of course not, it happens every day and nobody gives a shit (and nobody should).

Mem is now libeling SatoshiDice on his "Mem's Shilling List".  He defends sites that have stolen hundreds of bitcoins but spreads malicious lies about reputable sites.  He's a liar and a shill.  He's not sufficiently competent nor honest enough to serve as some kind of industry watchdog.  Luckily, barely anybody takes his bullshit "gambling list" seriously.

Dude, mem is still claiming BFL FPGA Singles don't exist Roll Eyes
How can someone take that lunatic seriously? Huh

Well, we've debated to use large flashing popups just to get their attention, but figured that there's got to be people who don't read anything anyway.

Indeed, large flashing popups are a good way to ensure that nobody will read that. This effect also has a name: banner blindness

Ok, we'll use flashing neon signs instead. Good enough?
820  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin discussions everywhere. on: May 11, 2013, 03:20:57 PM
Ok, and what should I do with the Portuguese forum? People have been posting about Litecoins and other clonecoins there, but I can't move those posts to the alt. curr. board as the posts are written in Portuguese and if I trash them someone will be mad at me.
Any ideas?

There a bunch of alt coin posts every day?  If so, you should talk to theymos about getting a portuguese alt-coin subforum setup.

One Off-Topic child-board would be enough to send those posts to, after all this IS BitcoinTalk and any alt coin thread is off-topic per se.
