I lived in Germany for a while. The topic of the Nazis to the war and Hitler is usually not affected. It seems to me that they are ashamed of this part of the story and are trying to forget. If you start talking on this subject with any of the Germans then be sure to answer will be only out of courtesy and at the first opportunity they will steer the conversation into another direction.
They've been indoctrinated. Ofcourse they want to stay away from the subject.. What's their motivation to continue the discussion? A lot of the Hollywood movies during the 1970s and 1980s also portrayed the Germans as Nazi sympathizers. There were widespread reports of hate-crimes against the Germans in countries such as the USA. The Yugoslav partisans had a german holocaust, they exterminated the volksdeutscher in concetraction camps. In my town, there was a neighbourhood called Neu Dorf (New Village on german), now it's Novo Selo (New Village on Croatian). 0 germans there today. I'm pretty certain this is not the only case. The germans suffered greatly afterwards. I've seen letters from the partisans, saying things like, this german helped the anti-facist struggle and was never a member of the kulturbund only to receive a response from other partisans in higher positions, he's a german, it doesn't matter [*killed*]. |

Maybe because they do not want to win and become the group winner (especially England) as if they become the group winner then there will be possibility to face Brazil in the Quarter-Finals. Belgium is leading 1-0 now and I think this is what England wants so they will be runner up but did they forget that the team they will face in round 16 is Colombia if they are group's runner up?

I think it's more about giving key players some well needed rest before the playoffs begin as well as trying a few different things/players in certain positions to see if you have a few surprises that you can bring up later on. I doubt they want to lose, but perhaps they don't care too much about the outcome. They're crossing with Japan/Colombia so that shouldn't be a hard game, although Colombia is pretty decent. Secured their pass already, so might be worth it to rest key players. Croatia rested some against Iceland in the last game too. Though, we did win either way |

5-0 who would think?! Russia showed good itself on the first game, but I think their game and general enthusiasm will go down with each match. I guess it simply was the greatest pressing from Putin and team to show perfect themselves on the first match.
It was unexpected the way Russia played and won the match. Did not think they could clinch the match by 5-0. This start and the boost will help them to play further matches with lot of zeal and even can upset some of the good teams in the league as the crowd support will always be with them. Probably a good time to place bets that Panama is going to be the worst team in the cup, since the odds have shifted a bit in Saudis favor after this game. |
