861  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: When do I get my Ethereum from Vitalik Buterin? on: April 26, 2021, 12:42:11 PM
He's not going to send you anything. Not sure if troll but if you've sent your money to one of those crypto doubling scams advertised on youtube etc then you've been scammed by an imposter.
862  Other / Meta / Re: The European Super League ( ESL) thread moved to off-topic why? on: April 26, 2021, 10:47:09 AM
Is it only an awful decision because you can't get paid for posts in off topic? I didn't move it but it doesn't really belong in there for two main reasons. One, the league probably isn't even going to go ahead and regardless of whether it does or not there's nothing to gamble on it yet other than maybe if you wanted to put money on whether it will go ahead or not.

This is the problem with the Gambling Discussion board and a symptom of signature campaigns wanting posts in the gambling boards as people just create threads for every league of sport in the world and every possible permutational of discussion on the subject so it's become more of a board for sports discussion rather than gambling discussion. I've literally seen people create threads in there for sports or leagues they've even admitted they're not even interested in. Merely discussing sports should really be in off topic or even its own Sports Discussion board but if it was in Off Topic people probably wouldn't post in there since they can't get paid.

Looks like theymos moved a similar thread to P&S recently as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5285284.0

863  Other / Meta / Re: Rule # 7 - Signature in Profile - Allowed? on: April 26, 2021, 10:30:30 AM
You can put a bitcoin address in your signature whether you're asking for donations directly or not, but what wouldn't be allowed was if you were making posts or spamming just trying to draw attention to the fact that you're looking for donations.
864  Other / Meta / Re: Hacked account got banned on: April 22, 2021, 09:46:41 AM
I unlocked it.
865  Other / Meta / Re: Do Banned users stand a chance of been reconsidered or been appealed for on: April 20, 2021, 05:32:55 PM
That's kind of the you. But for those who get a signature ban is there any possibility of such user to get pardoned in the nearest future if he or she actively participate in making the forum busy by sharing ideas and making meaningful posts that would increase knowledge of bitcoin and other cryprocurrencies?

The signature bans can be set for x amount of time. They're usually given depending on the severity but are taken on a case by case basis. If someone only plagiarised once and they were already banned for a a year or whatnot sometimes I just remove the ban but other times it's usually 3,6,12 months or something.
866  Other / Meta / Re: Why no Admin do something against this fucking bots? on: April 20, 2021, 11:53:32 AM
Just report them as they're normally handled very swiftly. I agree that maybe it might be a good idea to look at other solutions like either brand new accounts are shadowbanned and have to be whitelisted first before their post goes public or newbies cannot post an url until it's been checked or something but there are always ways to skirt restrictions. In the meantime just keep reporting them.
867  Other / Meta / Re: Get Notified when quoted - on forum feature on: April 20, 2021, 10:20:31 AM

Yeah, it would be helpful, though I believe it was one of the features being worked on for the new forum software.

Any idea when the new software will be implemented? I don't go almost for that section but I see that the threads there started 7 years ago.

It's not that I'm too expectant about the new software either as some things could be improved, like what is talked about in this thread, but I've seen software changes in other forums that I didn't like.

Nope. I have no idea what stage it's at but I'm sure theymos is busy working on it. I guess it's been a bit of a running joke that it's 'coming soon' though haha. Probably not a good idea releasing it until it's watertight though. To be honest, I kinda like this board as dated as it is. Change is always jarring when you've been used to something for so long.
868  Other / Meta / Re: Understanding Service Section rule. on: April 20, 2021, 10:12:26 AM
Bump!
Looking for an update.

If the rule is not 100% bitcoin payment is allowed in the Service section then this signature thread do not deserve Bounties (Altcoins) section, but it deserves the Service section. In fact having this campaign in Bounties (Altcoins) section means you are allowing a bitcoin payment service in Bounties (Altcoins) section :-D

Payment up to $20 is BTC and additional up to $80 bonus in native token literally makes it a bitcoin paying signature campaign where the payment is up to $20/w

For now and unless theymos says otherwise I think we should just stick to whatever it pays more in, or if there's some confusion about percentages with bonuses or whatnot if it pays in an alt then it just goes in the alt board.
869  Other / Meta / Re: Do Barned users stand a chance of been reconsidered or been appealed for on: April 20, 2021, 10:06:32 AM
I see some high profiled account been Barned on daily bases due to several reasons but the most common is plagiarism. Most of which are contributors to the forum and the have contributed towards the active status of this noble forum. Can such users be appealed for or is there no other measure other than permanent barn on such users. Regarding the fact that with or with any user the bitcointalk forum still functions to its fullest. But comsiderative measures should be taken for older accounts sake of the pains it took such user to get to where they are at the moment.

plagiarism? Not a chance...!!! but there are exceptions... may be one or two.. i have seen here on meta section in some old thread... there were some users which were given a chance by theymos at least one i remember (I have to dig posts to find that user).

But in very very rare cases may be this exception can be executed again.

I've unbanned a few users for plagiarism. A feature was added where we can issue a signature ban instead and sometimes that is employed. It depends on the level of plagiarism as well. Sometimes people were permabanned for just one instance which is pretty harsh. For those that did it en masse though it's a different story.
870  Other / Meta / Re: Understanding Service Section rule. on: April 18, 2021, 09:57:36 AM
Having 1% or even 5% is obviously a clear attempt to use the loophole. This clearly does mean that the campaign manager is not doing it to protect a portion of payment is secured for the participants.

Here again when the rule has no percentage mentioned, how would we put a line for an x%?

Didn't get any response from any admins or other globals yet but two other mods proposed/agreed that it should be a 50% threshold which kinda makes sense. So if it pays 50% in bitcoin then it could belong in there. I guess we'll have to wait for what theymos says before it becomes a rule/guideline but the majority of what coin it pays in makes sense just to stop people offering a tiny bit of bitcoin to skirt the rule.
871  Other / Meta / Re: Understanding Service Section rule. on: April 17, 2021, 04:57:35 PM
Here's what I said via PM:

Quote
Well it's hard to say and is open to interpretation I guess. I didn't move it but I see it was reported as "Payment 20% Bitcoin and 80% Altcoin, since Altcoin payment is bigger than Bitcoin, Move this to Bounty section" so I can see why. I'm 50/50 on it. Since it pays at least some bitcoin you can argue it can reside there but I also see the argument for the opposite since it pays mostly in an alt.

I didn't see you created this thread but I asked about it in the staff board for clarification.
I think you should just wait for hilarious to respond but since you created this thread I'm gonna put my 2 satoshis in  Smiley

20% in BTC sounds like an attempt to create a loophole for a predominantly alt-based campaign to use the Bitcoin board. If it was e.g. 50:50 maybe you'd have a better case, although even then you'd be at the mercy of moderator discretion.

Yeah, could be. Hopefully campaigns don't start paying 1% in bitcoin or offering a small bitcoin bonus just to bend the rules.

I don't remember seeing any campaign in Services section that paid only partially in Bitcoin and mostly in other tokens.

Possible solution you may have is to separate this campaign in two parts, one can be in Services and paying only in Bitcoin, and second part can pay rewards only in tokens and be in altcoin section.

There have been some that have paid out in both but not sure of the ratio. You can have threads in both boards if you accept or pay in both alts and bitcoin so technically it probably should be allowed but this is a unique case I guess.

874  Other / Meta / Re: New report feature? - Good, bad, unhandled reports on: April 15, 2021, 09:53:50 AM
Multiple threads have covered this topic from different angles in the past. The only consensus that can be gleaned is the current admins (for want of a better description) do their own thing and contradict each other when one choses not to handle a report then another marks it good or even bad if it's against one of their "gang".

Again, damned if we do damned if we don't. Just for reference, would you prefer for staff to mark them as bad in future rather than be left unhandled? Theymos himself I believe has referenced to unhandled reports as essentially considered 'soft bad' or something, but we can mark them as properly bad if this is what you would prefer? I can certainly start doing that if you want some consistency. Of course I can't guarantee what other mods think of every other post hence why we take them on a case by case basis. Things like low-quality posts are subjective though. How the hell can you reach a consensus on that? Do you think mods are one big hive-mind or should hold a committee with all mods where we vote on whether each and every post should be deleted or not? Mods do their best to follow the rules but not everything is set in stone. Someone may create a thread that merely requires a yes or no answer, so would a person who replies 'yes' or 'no' be low quality? No, not if that's all the op is looking for or needs. If the op requires more than a yes or no answer then it's probably pointless or unsubstantial. Just posting an image may be spam. Someone just posting an image of a cartoon poop is probably unsubstantial and could or should be removed, but not if someone either posts or creates a meme that is relevant or funny, or posts a very helpful picturegram that explains a lot. Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words so we shouldn't just be removing every solitary image that someone posts just because. Also, what would you define as trolling? Well, you might think this post is trolling. Someone might find a joke that is made at their expense as trolling, but where does it cross the line? Some people have skins thin or thicker than others and some people can't take jokes. Some people suffer barrages of attacks and don't complain about it or let it effect them and then other times people take 'jokes' way too far or develop into vitriolic grudges that clearly effect their mental well-being, but of course we as mods have to try decide what crosses the line as there is no official rule or law set in stone on what constitutes trolling.

There needs to be actual defined (and posted in a thread by @theymos, not just someone else's opinion) guidelines and the biased admin/mods replaced by Veted users who are unbiased.

Gang members need not reply.

Why don't you have a go at writing these 'defined' guidelines and propose them to theymos? I'd really like to see what you could come up with at least. If they're logical maybe even theymos will implement them. I doubt you can some up with anything actually workable or better than the current 'rules' but please feel free to prove me wrong. All humans are biased. It's impossible not to be. Let's take yourself for example. I've lost count of how many times I've seen you accuse me whether directly or indirectly of having something to do with one of your posts being removed or whatnot and it never has anything to do with me. You often can't seem to grasp the concept of off topic posts. Your posts in here are off topic. So, by the rules they should or could be removed. Should staff remove them to keep some sort of consistency that you require? If someone else does remove them then you will cry about it and likely assume it was me because of your biases or paranoia, but you'd be wrong.

And who are these gang members? An imaginary group of mods that are fowling the rules correctly or just don't have the same opinion as you? This wouldn't be your biased mind conjuring up conspiracies would it? Obviously you think there's some cabal of mods that are against you but what is likely happening is you've made a post that is against the rules or is liable to be removed like the one you complained about above and some other mod has done what they should and removed it, but because of your biases you think you're being attacked and cannot look at this objectively.

I didn't remove it and can't see any reports on it either but it's obvious that zebedee's shitpost was removed and therefore yours was as well.
877  Other / Meta / Re: The mods here deserve a dildo in their ass on: April 14, 2021, 08:01:44 AM
I'm not sure what thread of yours was moved (or deleted) but the Marketplace is pretty much just for selling things for bitcoin. If it wasn't anything to do with that then that's why it was likely moved or deleted. Or it was just another troll thread.

I object to the implication that a dildo up one's ass is necessarily a bad thing. Good for the mods if they happen to deserve and appreciate it.

I usually have to pay for this kind of service so I am very welcome of his offer.
878  Economy / Reputation / Re: Legendary trying to enroll 2 Alt Accounts at the same signature campaign on: April 12, 2021, 01:45:33 PM
I asked hilariousandco's advice about this very question a year or two ago, and if I recall correctly he told me that regardless of whether it's stated in the campaign rules, enrolling multiple accounts in the same campaign is a tag-able offense.  And as far as I know, it's been a rule in all of Yahoo62278's campaigns and pretty much every other one as well.

I don't believe I said this or you may have misinterpreted what I said. It's 100% not against the forum rules. As far as theymos or the mods are concerned you could have 100 accounts on the same campaign just as long as they're not shitposting en masse. I may have said something along the lines of the community often deems it a tagable offence. Personally I would think it's basically a terms of service violation of the campaign if it states only one person and if people want to tag people for it I wouldn't make an argument against that but I don't believe it's a crime either.
879  Other / Meta / Re: New report feature? - Good, bad, unhandled reports on: April 12, 2021, 01:36:02 PM
You are not going to be notified if a mod is not sure if action should be taken or not.
I was talking for my reporting as i have started , thats where i have my few unhandled reports !
At some stage hilariousandco or mprep have written to me as i should be stop reporting very old posts and threads .
As they good as they are and nobody will look after them.

You're free to report anything you like, but personally I feel like handling posts from a very long time ago is overkill, unless it's something serious. I won't mark them as bad but they're more likely to go unhandled. Not every mod will have the same opinion though.

You've got to wonder what the admin/mods are doing to let over seven hundred reports go "unhandled" especially when reports tend to disappear from the "your reports" list after a month or so.

Quote

Are they still there?  Why are admin/mods so undecided?

We're dammed if we do dammed if we don't. Let me ask you this, would you rather have them marked as bad? I often leave reports because I'm on the fence about them so I just leave them rather than penalise the person or user who's reported them.

Sometimes people go on reporting sprees and oftentimes it might be for things like spam or low-quality but that is completely subjective to all parties involved. You might look at the post and think it's ok, or maybe lazy but not enough to be removed and in those instances it's better to just leave them. Sometimes I just can't be bothered reading them all to make a decision but if they do go unhandled then that likely means every mod who has viewed them has come to the same conclusion.
