Salut,

863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FAQ on: October 03, 2014, 01:52:15 AM
I created an alternative summary for joining. This is meant as a starting point to help people connecting to IRC. Please mention any way to improve it or better yet, improve it yourself!

An alternative summary
864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Moderated Monero General Discussion Thread on: October 03, 2014, 01:15:38 AM
Flat emission curve may also work, who knows?
So far, I only know flat emission curve, this is TEKcoin. I draw no conclusion in one way or another neither do I imply anything.
865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Economy Workgroup - The MEW Thread on: October 02, 2014, 10:49:06 PM
Additional selfish question (partly kidding): is it then reported in the hall of fame?
Will be, as MEW (not as individual donators).
866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] GrowthCoin PoW/PoS - 100% per year - Version 1.3.0.1 on: October 02, 2014, 09:41:00 PM
Any idea why I have 0 weight on all of my coins and this at least for days? I have up to 10207 confirmation on one block and still weight is 0. I'm using 1.3.0.1 beta.
867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! High % variable rate SuperStake in 30+ days on: October 02, 2014, 08:15:28 PM
Tekcoin irc channel is open,

not much going on atm though maybe we should start to use that resource more. I have been dropping in last few days maybe i will start camping out more often for those who don't like to use the bct route or skype etc.
I created ##tekcoin just now. Two reasons:
1. single-sharp is only for reputed chans (freenode's policy). TEK is not
2. #tekcoin is unmanaged, which means everyone would have to leave for the chan to be manageable again. ##tekcoin is managed (by me and I will add Thundertoe once he will join.

+1

Maybe good to go for a limited release to experienced users only, or to TEK team members ?

Would help to have a set of beta testers and/or a "TEK board" of people who have skin in the game...

I'm up for T.E.K. (TekCoin Economics Kommittee) Tongue
Reminds me of the Monero Economy Workgroup Smiley

I really like the idea of adding a do not mint if pos diff >  button idea, could keep wallets online that is good for the coin.
Also known as "do not protect the network if I am not paid enough".

You sure you want that?
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! High % variable rate SuperStake in 30+ days on: October 02, 2014, 08:03:02 PM
thank you thundertoe, i'll make some pos difficulty graphs if i can figure out how to use altexplorer.info's api...
I'd love to see this. With recipe to do the same for other coins.
869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Proposal for an itemised agenda on: October 02, 2014, 05:53:24 PM
Summary of two posts by NewLiberty regarding a proposed itemised agenda:

(source 1 source 2)

Quote from: NewLiberty
1. WIF (wallet import format) for private keys and seed defined and implemented (import/export RPC and CLI methods)
Needed for  paper wallets, coin-wallets....
Rationale: There are lead times for making items that can be quite long in some cases.  Having this will start the clock rolling on that.  So I put it first.

2. OTK Address and transaction signing (one time key).
This feature allows proof of ownership of an address, or a transaction.  This should include format definition and the methods implemented.
Rationale: This is something business and accounting will require.  To me, the killer app for Monero is not the "I fear my government" folks.  No, it is the 100% legal high finance and multinational business enterprises internal settlement accounts.
Here's why: If you are the C-level exec doing business internationally, and you are looking to expand in a foreign region, you are going to run up against entrenched interests.  In many/most areas, these will include the local banking systems.  If you want to keep your business advantage of first mover and avoid industrial espionage risks letting the in-country folks collude against you, you want a way to move your money within your company in private OUTSIDE THE BANKING SYSTEMS. Sure you could use Bitcoin for this, but with its public ledger, if the opposition has half a clue, they can track it.  Sure you could take steps to obfuscate the transactions, but then you can't delegate it to your low level functionaries.
MONERO solves these problems in ways we do not expect Bitcoin to address anytime in the near future.
And here's the kicker, that market is 100x what Bitcoin is today.  Even if the only one doing it was Apple Computer, it would overwhelm the total market cap of Bitcoin today, and there are 10,000 companies in this situation.
It's #2 because there are a lot more pieces needed to do this, but this one is crucial.  It will have to be perfectly internally auditable, and perfectly obfuscated externally.

3. AUTH Develop and implement HTTP/HTTPS/RPC simple authentication between components.
This allows merchants to run the daemon on a separate server and communicate securely.  (not every waiter in the restaurant has to have a full block chain on their bill pay device)
Rationale: Small and Medium Enterprise function.  Merchants will need this.

4. GRACE Upgrade error handling in the daemon to either use a "graceful shutdown"
Better stability of bitmonerod by determining if it is necessary to shut down (absolute worst case), or retry indefinitely. the daemon should only die under the most dire of circumstances, and provide alarmable output for manual intervention and remediation.
Rationale: for basic reliability.  We have to have usage, but when they have it, it needs to not break.  I think if we asked our developers to do them in this order, we would be well suited to engage marketing solutions more swiftly.

I suggest we vote on it and then start rolling. I'm feeling MEW is facing the writer's block at this moment and this would break the ice.

I would personnally add a pure MEW item, parallel to the others: conquer the Asian market. We are strong in Northern America and Europe, but not in the Asia, which is the biggest market (more particularly China).
870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: October 02, 2014, 10:06:55 AM
Did anyone notice how BTC/Stamp and XMR/Polo charts look almost identical?

XMR will be at the same level as BTC AND HIGHER in the future.

New and improved!

BTC = Gold (store of value but not many industrial use)

XMR = Platinum (more rare and many industrial uses)

Promise? Smiley
Is it true?
871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 4 Markets on: October 02, 2014, 09:48:32 AM
A little tip for HYPsters. When you backup the wallet.dat file to a cloud storage and then stake for a long time not bothering about change addresses, you can lose part of your money after restoring from your backup. There are 100 pregenerated keys in client's keypool. Every new address used for change is taken from there. When all 100 addresses are used, new ones are generated, but your backup doesn't have them. To avoid it, backup your wallet.dat regularly and do not use excessive number of addresses. You can also start your wallet with this command /path/to/wallet-qt -keypool=1000, or add this line in the HyperStake.conf file: keypool=1000. If the wallet is encrypted, additional keys will not be created until the wallet is unlocked. To check your keypool size, use "getinfo" console command.
With the new code that doesn't need change address, this issue should be alleviated.

Presstab, is there a way to split up the stake for charity so that if you select 50%, 25% can go to one address and the other 25% to another?

Not at the moment, right now the code has the ability for this to be added and it is something that will be in a future release. The next release for the wallet will focus on adding custom change address to S4C so that you can keep all your coins under one address with S4C instead of them automatically being sent to new change addresses.  Tranz from HBN has made huge progress on this.
See my multisend proposal (the big ASCII table)

Following up, my big block did stake finally. Not sure why it staked dead last over smaller, less mature blocks, but it did. As you said, the process is random Tongue It was way over max, so I hit the cap. Which I can now report works Cheesy
Mine is still stuck. And I still get new block to mint several time per day Sad
872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Live and let dump on: October 02, 2014, 09:41:09 AM
HYP has two protections against dumps:
- (very) high-stake
- PoS-only, which prevents instadump

Granted, if Cryptsy accepts HYP, their autosell feature could lend people to instadump thanks to HyperSend/S4C. One more reason why I don't like Craptsy.

So I am completely happy having HYP PoS only, and would have it no other way. Not only is it safer, but it also gets rid of the ability to mine and instadump. For HYP, you need to either buy and dump, or buy-stake-dump. I like that model quite a lot, it seems to have good traction in the market so far on the supply side.

Also, as Presstab mentioned it on the CrazySteak Journal, "HYP has about 6 devs working on it at the moment [...] not to mention the friendly exchange of new code between HBN and HYP." Having several devs, and spread over several timezones, helps a lot.

(my, this one was short!)
873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CrazyLoaf's CrazySteak(TM) High PoS Investment Journal on: October 02, 2014, 09:40:20 AM
I think this is the best place to leave my PoS index chart updates (CrazyLoaf calls it the presstab index  Roll Eyes )

This index tracks price (taken daily) as well as staking.  The index starts from July 8th, 2 days after the launch of HYP, when it was trading for 1,000 sats.  This is why the increase in HYP value is so massive, well that and the fact that staking is massive.
Notice the higher-performing coins are the one with a recent new great dev (presstab and maybe me for HYP, noise23 for TRK). HBN has of course a great dev, but he is there since long. Is there a "wow great takeover" effect at work?

GrowthCoin: 87.7% (this coin is pretty silent now)
noise23 from TRK told me he will take it over if Unick doesn't go back.

Also as an aside I don't like the token mining period / POS only type coins like Hyperstake as someone has to have been aware at the right moment to have full advantage, so it is too easy for a handful of people to benefit by order of magnitudes above the subsequent waves.  I think the POW/POS format and slower distribution of HBN, CAPs and TEK to be more equitable across a wider time frame.
We are working on automating this, to prevent giving too much of an advantage to those who "go manual". I mentionned it in the HDJ ("Where no coin has gone before"): "Ultimately, only devoted holders will do it, so it would lead to a concentration of coins. Worst-case scenario, it would lead to the coin being abandonned, because it is "too cumbersome to manage". An automated system would act as an equalizer. One more thing to consider for future coding."

I'm a big fan of CAP. Noticed that of the top 20 addresses 5 are not staking; accounting for approximately 10% of the supply of Bottlecaps.
Crazy, could you check HBN and TEK too, to say how many of the highest addresses are not staking? To compare with HYP, where the top 5 are stacking.

So we're building a high PoS HQ near the BTC castle right?
AT the BTC castle Smiley You're welcome to come, book you flight with your stake Smiley

Let's compare to the typical alt. There's a super short mining period. Insiders mine/buy most the coins and hold. The price pumps up. When it's at a sufficient level, there are waves of ragedumps where insiders and early buyers sell their entire coin stash. Then the winners move on to the next coin and do it again.

High PoS is different. While for trading reasons you may sell out your whole stash, in most cases, you sell over time, and perhaps never touching your principal level that you want to keep. DRK pumped over the idea of masternodes. In reality, high PoS did this earlier, at least from an investment perspective. You "lock" the coins, generate stake, and can profit from the stake. However, these nodes aren't mere mixers, but minting/mining masternodes that distribute new coins to the economy.
Well-written!

social high PoS coin
http://www.cryptoclubz.com/ Although much help is needed in appearance and promotion, or maybe even business plan.

Tipping with DOGE is a one time affair, but tipping with HYP will allow the gift to compound just like the ideas Smiley
Particularly if the bot can stake (so far, only Unik has a staking bot).

I did not realize the donation address was here. I asked for it through David in PM but never got a response. My bad.
Sorry, that was not intentional, just too much PM on my main account, I suppose. Don't forget the payment ID and the amount. Also, send your IRC handle and make sure to register if first.
876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 4 Markets on: October 01, 2014, 01:42:39 PM
hey guys.My wallet amount has been wrong on richlist for awhile now.anyone know why?Saying i have 83k but i have 143k now
Go to coin control and double check that you don't have a lot of your coins in change addresses.  This is usually the problem.
That's exactly what it is. Cheers presstab
Right now s4c will split your remainder into a change address. This will be changed in the future.
Added to the FAQ.
877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / HyperDigest #2 on: October 01, 2014, 01:20:15 AM
Thank you all for your support, it really means something. I would like to thank Dexter12 in particular: "No fud, no price talking, no bullshit." You summed it up so well!

Just this once will not hurt. This entry will be pretty short. Noted stakelover Crazyloaf mentionned that HyperStake could make for a great game currency. That's the perfect occasion to write about one of those little things which did not make it into HYP.

I entertained at the beginning to have a 7 days staking period. Why seven? Because it allows people who depleted their stake, for instance by spending it on a game, to "have it back" exactly one week later. Much better readidiblity and thus adoption in my mind.
Now, this could not have work with HYP, since this is not an exact amount of time, but more like a probability and it depends on the size of the block. All of this I did not know by then (I was still thinking NVCS and more than that, I did not know NVCS as much as I do know).
Nevertheless, this anecdote is still worth mentionning: stake should be considered from a user point of view. What kind of new habit can emerge when you know that you will regularly get more money? Sure, some people will just waste it, as the basic income experiment in India showed it. But some will start to change their habits, to consider saving, for instance (remember what I said about education earlier). That can be very simple: instead of spending an undertermined amount of money on a game, now you only spend your HyperStake money. When there is no more, you must wait one week (or more). Sure, that's tough, but that could prove useful for people both poor and addicted. As Crazy said it: "I'd be interested in seeing how HYP could fare with gamers".

And you, which creative use of HyperStake do you have in mind? Some people talked about a multipool and Dexpla opened the cryptoclubz, the social network for crypto (by the way, my programmed sending gave him 200 more HYP since last time - I am the only one). What else? A yes, Hyperloan (you don't know what it is? you'll see).

I also discovered that a lot of people on the ANN are on the first high-PoS with HYP (thanks to all the community members who welcome and answer to the newbies). That should be an avenue to consider. We have an opportunity to get a professional-quality video (at a price). What would you like in such a video (or series of short videos)? Pure promotion, education to high-pos, tutorial... cycoinminer has a nice example. Iantunc has a good start for a tutorial (including the comparison with pool miner who could leave with your money).

Other thing, it is now possible to link straight to a block on the explorer. I have no use for it, but presstab cares to disagree Smiley

Oh, one last thing (I said this entry would be "pretty short" - yeah right). Crazyloaf (again) proposes a joint high-PoS IRC channel, to talk about HYP but also TEK, HBN, CAP, GRW, PHS... It would serve both purposes, I believe: first to be a place to talk about high-pos (TEK has tiny discussions on IRC and the others have none) and second to talk about everything that is coin-independant, like new uses of stalking, how to sell... He also has another idea, using HYP for tips the way DOGE, reddit gold and, more recently, bitmark on Poloniex are used. Feeling tHYPsy?

As iantunc stated, It is the experiment that tend to appear successful.
878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 4 Markets on: October 01, 2014, 01:10:19 AM
So, I've had today my first block, that actually reached the 1k interest limit.... and it's still gaining weight.

I was really quite surprised to see it go past the 1k limit, but it did none the less. I'm surprised because I have 2 wallets, and my other wallet which has blocks with much lower weight have been happily staking, whilst this particular block just keeps hanging on!

What are other's experiences of this? The block itself isn't too large, around 3200 HYP, and I've had larger blocks stake well within the 1k limit.
Nor is the difficulty as high as it's been recently - when I last looked it was 0.85....
Also have a block over 1000. It's weight is ~17000 with the size of 4000 and the age 13.39, so I'm losing about 80 HYP now. It's staking 24/7, just still isn't lucky to find a hash.

There is weirdness afoot.

All of my blocks EXCEPT the block of 1600, which has ridiculous weight, staked today. But that one still hasn't. I see I'm behind by one wallet, which I'll fix a bit later, but this still seems odd.

Every other time I've had a problem with HyperStake, I did it, so I am assuming I probably did something. Is there a maximum time as well as a minimum? This one is over 40 days.

Same problem here. I have a block of 3300 with a crazy 28691 weigth and almost 18 days of age and it refuses to stake

I certainly would not take financial advice from someone who can't do simple math.
Please stay courteous. Whatever the facts are, the way to state them matters too.

For those wishing to have smart conversations, I remind you the existence of a Monero self-moderated general thread (on top of all the others, like the equally self-moderated MEW thread.

880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 30, 2014, 04:16:49 PM
I have put him and this whole history on the ignore, there is no point in waste time on that anymore.

The same as here, but without the trolls.
This is a new thread, moderated with the monero-extended account so that there will always be one or more moderators here.

If you wish to apply for moderatorship, PM me. Round-the-clock moderation is always welcome.

We had some hiccups with moderation at the beginning but it should revert back to normal. Give it a try. I personally will privilege posting on the moderated thread instead of here.

I enjoy your posts so I'll give the moderated thread one more try. but If I see one more of my posts deleted that is it. Just because you don't like a post you can't delete it if it's not a troll or fud.
Just for information: I am not the moderator of the moderator thread (I don't have time for this anymore). Anon136 is and we are presently and publicly discussing the exact rules of moderation.

Now, a summary of what is being discussed on the moderated thread (to encourage you to post there and not here):

- How to help with translation, in any language: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/monero-client-net/
- The price obsession
- An anti-Monero Twitter campaign
