what will be the difference to the Press Thread,I am very fond of.?
Well, indeed, I used to read the press section for this purpose, but imho lately it is very incomplete.
Moreover, a lot of articles in the Press sections are just new articles, but don't really have new content for us.

Hi guys,

I think there is a need for a thread where people can get up to speed with the latest news (especially when you came back from holliday or after a busy period at work), without having to dig through hundreds of posts, so I created this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=405268.new#new

have fun !
883  Economy / Speculation / Latest Developments Thread on: January 08, 2014, 03:52:40 PM
Hi

The purpose of this thread is to compile all the biggest latest news and developments in Bitcoin, with an emphasis on things that have an effect on the price, although posts on long-term infrastructure development are appreciated as well.

The idea is to be able to quickly get up to speed, without having to go through hundreds of posts (like in the Wall Observer thread).

To keep the thread short, this should be a place for posting the news, but not discussing it (go to Wall Observer or topic-specific thread for that).  I hope this format is possible, because I wonder if people are willing to make the posts if there is no reaction to it (incentive for posting gone?). Let's find out !
An ideal post would make a TL;DR summary, and link to a news source or other thread.

Lastly, the thread is self-moderated, but I don't intend to manage it.  Just an extra option if people spam the thread, post things that have very little impact, or go full troll mode.

Now go on and inform us ! Wink

What makes you think that new people are here only for profit and not to support great idea which bitcoin is.

support a great idea v/s profit .. knowing that its each people's money/savings , the answer is clear  Cheesy
Can't we do both?
885  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2014, 11:15:32 PM
Its been extremely frustrating hodling a 60/40 position for the past week. The first 4 days I left $250/coin on the table by not buying and the past 2 days I have left $200/coin on the table by not selling and now I am almost back to where I started with nothing to show for it but stress when I could have made a fortune.

Thinking about imaginary profits is not healthy Cheesy As a poker player, at one point, i had 200k almost "locked up" @95/5% odds but 5% happened. Took some time to shake it off.

Jezus.  Congrats on keeping your sanity  Wink . (although of course I don't know what percentage of your capital 200k represents)
886  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why would BTC price go up forever? on: January 06, 2014, 11:54:53 PM
Once the supply/demand reaches equilibrium with high volumes (maximum adoption), the price will be finally much more stable. (not expecting to increase anymore)

the hilarious thing is that once this has happened and the price discovery phase is over, the speculators will exit the market in troves. the ones that stay will short, and we will see the first real bear market in bitcoin history, The Great Correction. Cool

The Great Correction? With your shades on it seems like you've been waiting for this for a while!

i just hope i live to see the day. for the time being the infinite bullrun has been loads of fun, but i expect that the top of this massive curve will be the biggest bubble yet! it's just exciting in general to think about the future of bitcoin in a real sense... remembering that when i first came here it was a niche project, not a fledgling payment system Tongue thinking about the future reminds me of just how far we've come in the past two years and it blows my mind! speaking of which, i once had 200 bitcoins (when they were $5 apiece of course). if only i had hodled....

--arepo

Agreed, bitcoin has all the characteristics to turn into a HUGE bubble (and I mean overvalued in the long-term, not just the price oscillations we have seen so far), but if everything works out as we hope it does, we are still very far away from that point.
887  Economy / Speculation / Re: does anyone notice there are less coins to sell due to mass hodl? on: January 06, 2014, 11:17:19 PM

Volatility is bad for merchants wanting to use everyday in their coffee shops, bookstores, etc.  Volatility is bad for someone wanting to use this online purchases, ie, Overstock.com.  Will they be adjusting the price daily?  Hourly?  Etc.

Is it great for speculators though.

lololol. Bitpay.
Ideally, I think, merchants accepting bitcoin ≠ merchants dumping bitcoin for fiat.

It's a necessary intermediate stage.  If people feel comfortable that they can use their bitcoins everywhere, this will increase usage and the market cap, which should dampen volatility.  After that, some salaries and supply chains might get paid in bitcoin, which I think will have the greatest stabilizing effect.
888  Economy / Speculation / Re: I own BTC and part of me doesn't want it to reach $10,000 because on: January 06, 2014, 10:58:21 PM
I think of it like this: once Im a bitcoin millionaire, I'll have enough money so that I can feel comfortable quitting my day job. Once I've done that then I'll have the time/freedom/energy to be able to do independent contracting, start my own company, do more/better day tarding, and make brilliant inventions, which will truly make rich. Bitcoin was only the tool to release myself from bondage but it is not everything.

Agreed, although a couple of years living the good life and doing random fun stuff would probably also be part of the package for me :-).

With a bachelor, masters degree or a phd you will earn 1M in less than 10 years.
10M is a good sum to live a decent life. Not a great one, but a good one.
Dude, you are making it sound like it is easy earning that amount of money.  It might be for some people, and in some sectors, but that's definitely more than "normal".

DogeCoin will be a funny but dead meme in 4 years:)

DogeCoin is lulz, but it's ridiculous that it has a 6 million dollar valuation.

Anyone else having a hard time keeping up with all of the latest developments?

By the way, another runup in price so close after the previous "bubble" would be crazy!
But hey: "madness?  This is BITCOIN !".

lol  Cheesy

i think many guys here are really calm holding bulls because they bought under 10 USD...so it is little bit more easy to hodl i think...

It's irrelevant at what price you bought for deciding whether or not to hold an investment.

It depends on the person. I have more money than I have ever had in my life invested in Bitcoin. Had I earned that money through a regular job, there is no way I would consider putting it all into Bitcoin. But since it came so easy, it wouldn't hurt so much if I lost it all.

Probably how I would feel too. It's not rational however Smiley

It's not rational at all, but I feel the same way. I've been trying to ask myself if I had all my bitcoin-value in FIAT... would I buy as many bitcoins as I own now? Answer is usually: no, not even close, I wouldn't.

Then why am I not selling? Well, I actually am, but I can't bring myself to sell even close to the required amount. Why? Well, I guess I probably learned by pain through past experience that selling Bitcoin is not a good idea.

Selling precious coins when you're a bull is extremely hard. Harder than "not buying" even though you're bullish, I guess.
Same here, psychology matters.

This Peter Wynn character just has to suffer some unfortunate mental disorder. He speculates that BitPay added a backdoor for Zynga and that's how money disappeared from his BTC-e account because BitPay also has a backdoor to BTC-e, or something CRAZY. His profile says he's a "crypto prodigy", but people are having to explain password hashing to him. Meanwhile he seems to tweet about once per 15 seconds. Could be a manic episode maybe?

I really don't understand why there isn't any major drugstore chain accepting Bitcoin.
There are lots of people who need lots of pills in this community.
lol  Grin

That's not true !  Obviously you are part of the Illuminati and are trying to discredit the bitcoin crowd!  Wink

899  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if war comes? More and more WWIII signals on: January 02, 2014, 09:15:31 PM
I dunno about a world war, I think people especially the young generation have grown to hate war, which makes it harder for war hungry elite to launch new wars.
Don't know about that.  Human psychology hasn't really changed much.  Maybe the internet is a force for peace, since it brings us into contact with people from all kinds of nations, thereby making it somewhat harder to demonize "the enemy".  I seriously doubt thats enough though (civil wars still happen, and thats between groups of people who are in contact with eachother).
