Any news on Giga?
To all verified Gigaminers:
The upgrade process to Teramining will be closed Friday morning.
To those who have already upgraded, a detailed explanation of the last few months plus the plan moving forward will be emailed to you once some lose ends are finalized.
Best, James
See the GigaThread for moar drama, oops I mean information. ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) tl;dr Giga turns into Tera only once all BFL ASICs arrive and are hashing. Then we're locked into 9 months of dividends before being able to sell the TM shares.

I hope they start using other pools asap.
If we don't start getting more hashing power online soon, it won't matter which pool we use. You are absolutely clueless about what's going on, aren't you? Obviously . How about instead of passing out insults you educate all of us? This thread is not the place. Its already clogged up with too much commentary, making it very difficult to follow actual asicminer project developements. IKR? Tell me about it. This thread sux0rz. It doesn't deserve having you as a participant. We are honored. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) The cool kids are all on the AM hardware threads. Even friedcat avoids this oober-laymer magnet. That's why we're not yet discussing his latest missive, with all the awe, rancor, and speculation it is due. ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif) The following auctions of blades will be after the collection of the feedback and (possibly) the modification and improvement of the design/manufacturing. But before that there will be auctions of USB sticks as soon as they are available. Shipping will also be immediate.
The users of the first round of auction are granted a free upgrade option to the blades of the improved design with the timescale the same as the free replacement warranty.

Which part of "First we deploy 12 TH/s, a few months later 50 TH/s and few months after that 200TH/s" is linear?..
Maybe it's linear if you use a logarithmic scale? ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

@all that don't understand
All addresses that receive coins from this address will ALWAYS be tainted with the "stolen" red ink. If the proxy (mixing service / Mt.Gox / private person paying cash / what the !@#$ ever) is prepared to take that risk that's ok, but in the future the services that use bitcoin WILL check the origin of EVERY satochi out there and trace it back to it's origin.
For example I'm writing bitcoin bank system right now, it will trace all stolen coins. If you as a user in my bank receive coins that originate from a stolen address, MY BANK WILL BLOCK YOUR SAVINGS until you send in the information about who owns that address.
END OF THIS DISCUSSION

Hopefully, I'm not derailing the thread here but I think the key for this is to know, how exactly did states come along originally?
I honestly don't know the answer to this, but I assume it had to do with various things, like for example, the fact that people only generally had primitive thought processes, the general lack of resources that meant people had to band together into groups and the bigger groups were able to get more resources, through either division of labour and warfare.
The fact that states arose in more than one place, I think, seems to attest to this fact. That it was sort of an outgrowth of the tribal model. Religion seems to have played a big part in it too, keeping the group together and following the leader.
But this was all pre-enlightenment pre-industrial revolution and the world is quite a different place today. Free market economics and the wealth that it creates doesn't require these models anymore imo.
Sorry that's a bit scattershot, trying to articulate my thoughts as I'm having them. I'll try to take a look at the books.
You're not derailing the debate, the question of the origin of states (both empirical and theoretical) is *exactly* what myrkul and I are discussing. As I understand it, he and de Molinari (the AnCaps) contend that states are born in blood, intrinsically coercive and destined to oppress their citizens. Nozick and I (the Minarchists) allow for the possibility that states may come into existence as a natural monopoly on dispute resolution and use of retaliatory force, via the consent of the governed. Here's a brief overview and a helpful graphic; thanks for dropping in our little debate! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism_and_minarchism![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fu6mAebp.png&t=663&c=UP_fUGlum8plCw)

So, I'm not a gun, nut, and have no real interest in guns, BUT I am a James Bond nut, and since I can afford it, I figured, hey, why don't I buy a Walther PPK just for the hell of it! Then I can dress up in fancy suits and pretend I'm James Bond, too! Then I looked at my state's gun laws, and turns out that in Maryland, you are allowed to buy a gun, you are allowed to store it in your home, but you are not allowed to have it outside of your house. At all. Not on your person, not in your car, not in a box or a safe being transported somewhere, just nowhere at all. So, yay that I can get a collector piece (I'm at least allowed to drive it from the store to my house), but seriously, wtf? ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif) Everybody knows that the Founding Fathers froze and died for years fighting the British, for the sake of enshrining a Constitution that only applies inside your house. As soon as you step out your door, you're in a Constitution-free zone. Just like George Washington wanted it. ![Undecided](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/undecided.gif)

The good news in all this is that there are fewer Texans tonight than there were last night.
This is offensive. It would be like saying that the good news about the 15th's bombing was that there are fewer Bostonians. You're celebrating people's death based on nothing more than where they lived. Disgusting. Didn't you get the MainStreamMedia's memo myrkul? It's A-OK to mock the death of worthless, inbred hicks in racist, backward flyover states, especially Texas (KKK/lynching/gun nut/death penalty/patriarchy/fossil fuel/pro-life/family values capital of the world). But it's completely beyond the pale to mock the death of enlightened, progressive, cosmopolitan coastal elites such as Bostonians or New Yorkers. There isn't a single decent wine bar in the town of West, much less a good deli. It's better their suffering ends sooner than later. Them's the rules on DemocratUnderground and DailyKos, so clue up son!

A long dark age of socialism to teach them what it is like. ^^^^^^^^^^^ We're soaking in it! A flat tax rate would do wonders for America. A progressive tax rate just means, the more successful you are, the more you'll be punished.
Yes it would. A flat tax would be a sea change, an outright repudiation of progressivism, because the progressive income tax is (next to abortion) the Trots' and Fabian's highest sacrament. Mrykul is right about the slippery slope and conflict of interest, but even small steps on the road back to equality under the law are important. A flat tax isn't a permanent solution to the flaws of man (necessitating eternal vigilance and all that), but at least it's less inequitable than the status quo.

Can anyone answer why we don't solo mine?
I dont have read a reason for that either except of variance. The chance of finding a block is higher with a pool with more hashing power. Though i dont know why it should be so much better to pay a fee. I cant imagine that variance gives 3 or more percent that the poolfees takes away. Variance is one answer. Accountability to shareholders is another - it's easier for shareholders to estimate the earnings if the stats are on a public pool. ASICMINER could mine on a public p2pool instance... AM has an obligation to shareholders to maximize profits by mining at whichever pool is the fastest and most reliable. Right now, that's BTC Guild. AM has only begun their roll-out/ramp-up process. They need to use Guild as a benchmark for testing and optimization, before introducing more variables into the equation. AM should not lose focus and drift away from their core competencies by messing about with P2Pool or homegrown solutions. Look at CoinLab to see why... ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

The interesting thing I got from the crappy movie they did about her was to note that trying to force everyone to pay the same tax rate is political suicide.
That pretty much shows that we will continuously slip further and further into tyranny of the people.
The flat tax is very popular in Russia. Of course Putin doesn't have to put up with the BBC poofs and Trots who continuously lambasted Thatcher. That's because Russians, unlike Britons, have already tried fully embracing socialism and found it not to their liking. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
