941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - *GOING PoS*NOBL/$USD*MARKETPLACE*55 CHARITIES/MERCHANTS* on: September 16, 2014, 09:48:10 PM

Marketplace

Currently doing final brainstorming on how to leverage the Marketplace to further demand in NOBL and increase price (offering services in exchange for NOBL). We're thinking of accepting other coins on the marketplace for a fee and allowing them to fund their own promotions. Any loss in our 15% competitiveness (if other coins offer them for a timeframe of a month or two) is made up by us charging NOBL for the listings/promotions and building stronger relationships/contacts between coins.

For example, say *coin wanted to be accepted on the marketplace and promote their coin @ a 20% discount for two months. They can fund permanent listing on our marketplace and then as an extra fund their own promotion for 2 months. Profits from these arrangements will be used to market buy NOBL and take them off market as well as fund extra development. It's also a direct way of improving relationships and exposure for our marketplace, NOBL & other coins.

Looking for feedback and suggestions, preferably constructive. Coins are paying huge amounts to be listed on brand eCommerce sites so they can have real-world use and/or trying their best to build their own marketplaces. Why not get involved and sell our current offerings for NOBL and become a brand eCommerce site ourself? If we leverage the deals/services right we can work with lots of coins to look more appealing than fiat and improve NOBL demand/price at the same time.

Interest for HYP. I will write about in the HYP development journal: don't reinvent the wheel, partner with the best (and for marketplace, I believe you are).
942  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / HYP development journal on: September 16, 2014, 09:29:05 PM
I started a HYP development journal, which will be something close to a blog. Where this very thread is about the day-to-day activity of HyperStake, the development journal will be more about the history, the vision (past and future), the ruminations... of all the HYP team, not me only.

This "blog", like everything with HyperStake, is an experimentation, so please treat it as such.
943  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / David #1 - Project management on: September 16, 2014, 09:13:10 PM
Alright so where should I start? Oh yes. The Holy Trinity.

I like to say than when you want to create a project (and make it work), you shall focus on these three things:

1) Gather a (good) team
2) Focus on what really matters
3) Keep on going
(addition from my teacher: have a vision)

I have some experience with managing groups. I started with Might and Magic: Heroes Kingdom (I just learnt they shut it down on September 1, 2014, two weeks ago) - I still remember what it felt like to be one of the very first users (it was French-only by that time), a bit like I felt on these days of April 2014 with Monero. On MM:HK, I learnt to handle an alliance, to be sure people were happy, to delegate, to negociate, to grow... and to spend too much time on it, to develop bad sleeping and eating habits, to endanger the rest of my life.
Later on, I created a still-running publishing house, Scriptarium (Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf) and I learnt (we learnt) to face adversity and calomny, to handle growth, to get a reputation as being reliable enough that we are routinely signing international contracts. And again I learnt how do delegate better, how to spare my own life more, how to better handle stress and criticism and, maybe more importantly, to be proud when the pupils became better than the master (hint: the master was me).
Same again for the International Longevity Alliance and, closer to what is at stake '(oops, pun not intended), with the Mintcoin Fund, the world first-legally registered NGO for an altcoin. I'm so glad I found Jessica Hartmann (happy birthday, Jess'!), she is doing an awesome work with the team on Mintcoin.

In all of these projects, a good team was instrumental. The more it goes, the lesser the time ratio of my time over total time on a project, because the more proficient I became at finding people who would do better than me and be happy about it.
A project is as good as the people running it. Remember this, always. And always remember that strength doesn't come from uniformity, but from diversity. The great Saint-Exupery once wrote (Citadelle, 1948): "If you differ from me, my brother, you do not hurt me; you make me richer".

This is how I approached HyperStake. Two souls both different and similar. Presstab is a great coder, I've seen him working on TEK, MINT and NOBL. I do not code (save HTML) but I dare say I have some ideas and I'm pretty good with communication. And above these complementary differences, we both have the same thirst for honesty, exploration, optimisation and giving something to the community.

And thus came HyperStake.

(to be continued)
944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / HyperStake Development Journal (HDJ) on: September 16, 2014, 02:26:28 AM
Welcome everyone to the HyperStake development journal. Here we will share our thoughts on HyperStake on a bit more personal way that we do on the official HyperStake thread. Not that we feel constrained in any way of course, but we feel it is better to have two different threads for two different goals - one for the coin, one for more personal considerations - and as a courtesy to people not interested in long theoretical speeches.

The title itself is an obvious nod to one of my favourite thread, tokyoghetto's late HBN Investment Journal (by the way, this thread will be self-moderated, so no abusive trolling problem here). I really enjoyed reading tokyoghetto all these weeks and he was instrumental in my interest in PoS. So tokyo, if you read this, a big thank you.

Thanks to the polysemy of the word development I can use this word in the title without being incorrect. So I will mostly speak here about considerations regarding the future of HyperStake, the faster-than-light crypto.

1. Project management
2. Inception
3. Stone=1; Birds=many
4. Where no coin had gone before
5. HyperDigest #1
6. HyperDigest #2
7. Live and let dump
8. Rich man's problems
9. The virtues of inflation
10. HyperDigest #3
11. Hyperstake for everyone - Stake and Cash
12. Miners dump, stakers don't
13. HyperDigest #4 - HyperStorm
14. Teaming up for new heights
15. HyperPool, the first PoS pool mining
16. Max generation and its consequences (mostly incorrect)
17. Network security and why it matters
18. Features galore!
19. Feature: disablestake if X
20. HyperDigest #5
21. Development entry not in the development journal

945  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero featured in LetsTalkBitcoin podcast 2014-09-15 on: September 16, 2014, 01:59:00 AM
Off-topic: Is there any way to share ignore-lists or subscribe to ignore-lists compiled by those forum members we trust?
Note that I know of, but URS could come in handy for this (granted, WoT could suffice).
Personally, in find the fact that we are delving into non-monetary uses exciting.
946  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 16, 2014, 12:44:05 AM
Important notice: this is not a core dev announcement. This is just me as an individual and of course, I get absolutely nothing in return with this post, which is a spontaneous one.

Just a note to announce we are on a new exchange called coin-swap.net/ (https://coin-swap.net/market/XMR/BTC).
coin-swap was among the first one to accept Mintcoin, the first altcoin I ever got (I was not dev, just holder) - by then you could exchange mostly any coin to any coin, but the concept did not become popular so the site was refactored into a much more traditional exchange.

Later, coin-swap was the very first exchange to accept the other coin I develop, HYP. So I know the folks well and coinswap-ian, the owner, and coinswap-jeremy, the new assistant, are nice and helpful on IRC.

Finally and that's probably the most important for most: several times per month, there will be no buying fees for XMR during 24 hours. And this is the case right now ("Coin of the Day Monero (XMR) No buy fees for this market!").

David, I already have a trello account. I am mafort1469 there as well. Trello is a good community place for information. Will work well for things.
Thanks, invited.

Just dropping in to say hello - good work on HYP

(aka MinerTradingProphet)
Hello, B3dr0ck! Glad to see you here, thank you for the kind words!
Another one bites the HYP!

Presstab, Monero will move to gitian binaries and Fluttercoin already did. I'm adding it as a proposal on Trello, on the coding board. For information, dear readers, gitian binaries is a way to be sure that the binaries comes from the source, so the only way for them to be corrupted is for the source itself to be corrupted. Except for the most paranoid, this basically relieve you from checking the binaries against VirusTotal.com and thus increases confidence for the majority of users who don't AV-check the binaries.
948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 3 Markets on: September 15, 2014, 11:39:27 AM
Ok, thanx! But it is also important to make this process so easy to be accessible for children)
Good idea! HyperStake could be used as an educative tool, like piggycoin wanted to be. With a children-oriented theme (what does it mean, really?) to teach the virtue of saving (stake) and sharing some (stake for charity on a secondary wallet for Mother's day, for instance.

Definitely something to consider. A recent article in a major French newspaper noted the financial analphabetism (link in French) was rising.

let's  make a video tutorial  for HYP , it will be great for the new holders to understand how it works exactly  with a simple video .

And also this is an occasion to be on Youtube .

We are on the C-cex voting page --->  https://c-cex.com/?id=vote
I am favorable to the video (and later a video for children - remember, child != mentallly challenged). I won't be able to monitor this until the 23rd, though.

Question for everyone.

I am going to be making a choice about IRC. There are 2 options that I see.

#1 Remove it completely from the code. It is already disabled and will only use IRC if the users forces it with -irc=1.
#2 Or we can also keep it in there and I can add to it, so it will connect to a IRC channel and allow users to chat with each other. The wallet will not use it to look for peers though.

Do we remove and forget about IRC, or keep it and expand it's usage?

Zawinski's law of software envelopment
Quote
Every program attempts to expand until it can read mail. Those programs which cannot so expand are replaced by ones which can.
Replace "email" with "IRC".
Just tongue-in-cheek, though. I'd like to have it active on HYP to see if people use it (since HYP is all about experimenting and also have a pretty active IRC, it would make sense).

The main reason is to incentive people to stake on a daily basis rather then only a few times with large blocks. Mostly it would be to prevent someone from simply holding thousands of coins offline, and then bring them back online after a long time and get a very large reward, for doing almost no network protection.
A very elegant explanation, much better than the ones I came up with. I just  updated the HyperStake Wikia page about max subsidy accordingly.

Finally, regarding 1.5 beta 2: out of the version number mentionning 1.4.8 (I assume it is related to a technical constraint with github), very nice. First, it finally compiled (you remember I could not compile previous versions. Unfortunately, I had to redownload the whole blockchain. Not a big deal, but worth mentionning.

Oh! I also notice you finally fixed the ugly positionning of the "New", "Add" and "Upload" button on the bottom left by increasing the width of the buttons. Much better now Smiley
950  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [HYP] HyperStake OTC Trading Thread on: September 14, 2014, 11:51:55 PM
HYP market is still too illiquid to allow serious buyings without moving the price. Hence this OTC thread.

This is a new, community-own thread (old one).

I created a Trello account for HyperStake. It is empty for the moment, but seeing how Mintcoin and Monero make heavy use of it, I'm confident it may help with handling scalability.
https://trello.com/hyperstake

Zeewolf, could you create a trello account for you? Presstab and waxo to, as will as mafort and bitmaster.
952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 3 Markets on: September 14, 2014, 04:01:08 PM
Is it possible to give the wallet a Minimum block size somehow so that if u stake those blocks get combined into the blocksize u set ?
If this option is there already and i missed it please point me in the right direction.
This is unrelated to theme and Zeewolf is on theming. By quoting him, you're implying he should do something about it. In the future, please avoid quoting someone unrelated to your question, it just leads to confusion.
Now regarding your question: this is already being done and we (the core team, but mostly presstab) are working on making it work better.

On another note: congratulations Zeewolf for your skin. Hyperblue is outpacing my expectations! Blue brushed metal, small orange underlining, "technological" progress bar... Wow!

Also, happy to see you back, Foxy! (no, your post were great, really. Not a big fan of large centered post but the rest was great,)
And congratulations to waxo for taking the lead on Twitter. We already got +40% followers (yes, we shall always be wary of numbers, but this is still important).
953  Other / Meta / How to report possible scammers? on: September 14, 2014, 03:54:46 PM
Hi,

The list is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.msg8817133#msg8817133

So far compromised accounts are:
Please report them.

Update: there seems to be even more.

yes we need to report all those messages
I added a negative trust rating to all of them (not the new list on the last link, though).
It seems the guy wanted to impress big boys by using a Sr. account. Failed.
Now we can assume either awais3344 has been solded or pirated or that awais3344 is the actual scammer.

Edit: I just put it in my sig and it looks nice. Everyone should put it in our signature. We will definitely get more people on this thread.
Note for the community; this user, albeit a Senior member, tried to scam NEM holders. Evidence here: Scammers alert.

958  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.1 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: September 14, 2014, 12:01:03 PM
Looking over the new auto saving ability and i am wondering how it works and what are the benefits of using it.Could someone please  fill me in on the details? Thanks.

How it works, is top secret!    Tongue

Actually it is pretty simple, as each new block comes in from the network it checks to see if you just recently had a PoS block that has matured(25 confirmations).  Once it finds one, it send a portion of that stake to another address.

Currently people are using it for a variety of usages. I use it on HBN to send 50% of my wallet's stake to charities. It is called Stake For Charity there, but operates the same as CAP's Auto Savings.

Another option could be to generate a cold storage account and start sending it a portion of your stake. This way it will be offline, more secure, and prevent you from easily spending it.  A sort of 401k. This was the intended use for CAP.

Another idea is to use it to get a friend interested in CAPs. Just have them get a new wallet and set up like 10% of your stake to goto that friend's address. This will allow you to send them coins while still acquiring them yourself.

Finally I know people are sending some of there stake to an exchange to trade for other coins.

Stake For Charity and Auto Savings, give the user these abilities and more. It is automatic, it requires very little effort on the users part, it generally uses the least mature coins, it allows your to use your coins and still have more then when you started, and it is fun!

A friend of mine who is into MMORPG said I created a HOT(Heal Over Time) for crypto's.  Cheesy
I really love the idea! Staking really opens up new use cases for cryptos

David, this wiki looks excellent! Great work  Grin
Thanks Smiley Now it is everyone's responsability to improve it Smiley
Zeewolf: it is possible to change the style for something more blue (da ba dee)

Finally, how to know if you reached the max subsidy (and so should reduce your blocs?

In the picture above, I reached it twice. I have no idea how many HYP I missed, though, nor the size of the block responsible for it. Two important informations.

I created a wikia for HYP - believe it or not, even bitcoin as no Wikia.
Lot of things to add, but I am exhausted. Don't hesitate to modify it. Ultimately, our Google Docs should move there.
