After many, many, many months of waiting I’m glad to report BFL has delivered. I received my first Jalapeño today! This bad boy is getting 5.6 Gigahash instead of 4.5 Gigahash listed on their website. I'm thrilled about about the speed increase even though it's larger and takes more power. For a $149 investment it'll repay itself and make $1300 on top in one month of mining. Here are some pics for your enjoyment... I will evaluate the current reports then in all likelihood send the codes for the winning bets.
Still a handful at 350+ we can work on a settlement or leave it and evaluate it at the appropriate date.
I thought they had to be customers? Greenberg received his because he reposts everything josh says to twitter. Coding in my sleep is not a customer unit either. Where are the three customers' posts at? All three of them are customers as far as I know. I suppose that should be clarified by them though. If you watch their videos and read their blog posts they made when they received the units it said that Greenberg got his because of this work on the "unofficial" BFL news twitter account (BUT greenberg is also a customer that has an order too and greenberg's unit is not a production unit (see the posts between him and josh explain that only one chip is working and the other is to balance the heat sink and that the unit sent was different from the others)) -- so I leave those complexities for you guys to sort out. But, coding in my sleep clearly says that the unit he got was for a media purpose (like the one sent to PCmag and Wired) so I do not think he is a customer. There are tons of video and pictures and very detailed blogs on these. Same as kano is not a customer receiving his. Ok, so they're both customers, but the units they received were not the units they ordered. Will wait for additional people's units to arrive then... |

Oh, no, they're still talking. Mostly going into tinfoil-hat areas of "well, the forum poster has a BFL sig, they must be working for them and making this up!" I assume you are referring to me. It seemed awfully suspicious to me. A customer (supposedly) gets a unit and then does a YouTube video of it being unwrapped. Like it was for show and also had a BFL sig. Now most regular customers aren't going to upload a video to YouTube. From the start of opening the box and showing it for display. That along with having a BFL sig. So there is some reason for skepticism. But sure get on the BFL bandwagon.. You're right. Most people won't do an unboxing vid. So that's why most of the (40+) people who have undoubtedly received a BFL unit hasn't posted a video about it. And you think it is odd that 2-3 geek types have posted unboxing videos? Come on, tech types do that all the time when receiving the latest and greatest tech products. Just type "unboxing" on youtube. 40+ undoubtedly? Citation please. It would be good to see some actual evidence that BFL can produce and ship in double digits. Sorry, I shouldn't have given a specific number. Truthfully, I have no idea how many people have received them. But I am sure that some of them are not reporting that they have received them. My point still stands that geeks get overly excited about unboxing brand new tech toys, especially if they know they are one of the first to receive it. |

Even if BFL delivered TODAY, on spec even, it has already become a horrible, horrible investment in comparison to Avalon.
I'm sure everyone who pre-ordered with BFL (or bASIC for that matter) would love to have known the future and have ordered a first batch Avalon instead. But hindsight is 20/20. I wish I knew Wednesday's lottery draw numbers on Monday, and I wish I knew the price of BTC would rise from $2 up to $266. So yes, of course a first-batch or second-batch Avalon would have been a much better investment, but that doesn't make a BFL order horrible. At least, I still have no regrets about mine... |

Good eyes spotting gigavps' report. Since my 200 BTC bet with Micon was on the same terms, I seem to have won too In all fairness to Micon, it is unclear whether gigavps measured 30 Watt himself or not. Personally I am totally fine waiting for a few more reports before claiming my 200 BTC from Micon. To be technical, it was just "who post pix and verify hashrate", not that they needed to verify power usage with pictures. I think it's pretty clear that BFL has shipped a number of units meeting the requirements of the bet. |

That's grnbrg's Jala, per his BFL_News twitter (see the vanity address 1GrnJaLa). Not sure if OP is him? He got a free dev unit, that is different from most of the jalas. He got a unit with one overclocked and one disabled chip, whereas the rest have been 2 chip jalas. Oooh, interesting. |

Are you surprised when you try to sell a max worth 2-3 BTC item for 5 BTC? Well, I sold the last one for $866 on eBay, and that wasn't a graded coin. Any of the 2011 coins in good condition are still regularly going for $900 on eBay. I figure that I could start the auction at less than $866 and have a few bids, since I (thought) I could reasonably expect the auction for a graded coin to go higher than the auctions on eBay for ungraded coins. I guess people on eBay are just willing to pay that much higher of a premium though? |

Hi ABitBack, Thank you for the complements on the design. Yes, you certainly could do that! I wrote in the FAQ a little bit about why firstbits addresses are valuable and useful. I'll pull two important pieces of that into this post: If two addresses compete for the same firstbits, the address that appears in the blockchain first is the only address that can use the given firstbits. The address appearing further on in the blockchain would have more characters added to the firstbits until it is uniquely defined apart from all addresses appearing before it in the blockchain. What this means is, I might have the address associated with the firstbits 1sexy, but anyone who generates an address afterward that starts with 1sexy would have the firstbits 1sexyt, or 1sexyw, or 1sexyb, etc. It wouldn't be valued as highly simply because it is longer, more complicated, and not a primary word by itself. Certainly, there are still a number of good unclaimed firstbits, and if you want some of them, I'd be happy to help you acquire them with the split key program. You can look up a firstbits by going to blockchain.info, and typing it into the search bar. For instance, type 1sexy into the address bar. You can also send directly to a firstbits address with blockchain.info as well! Here's some additional reasons why I find firstbits addresses useful: ● Consolidating wallets between different computers. A quick firstbits lookup will show the full address to send Bitcoins to, rather than having to email a full Bitcoin address to myself or attempting to manually copy it down.
● Relative needs to pay me back for dinner? A friend bought a piece of computer hardware from me? If they need to pay me, I simply tell them what firstbits address to send it to, rather than having to remember to carry a QR code with me or emailing them a full Bitcoin address.
● Shortening the address for space-sensitive online postings, such as forum signatures, forum avatar text, email signatures, or tweets.
● Tipping! In the future, artists might sign their artwork with their firstbits addresses, in an effort to gain tips for as long as the image circulates. Writing in a full Bitcoin address wouldn't be practical, and relying on a centralized address shortener wouldn't ensure longevity of their tips.
● Memorizing the Bitcoin addresses of other people. For example, I might know that my own firstbits address is 1justin, which can prove handy, but because they are so short, I might also remember a friend's firstbits address is 1jones, and a relative's firstbits address is 1jerry. In this way, I can pay them for any reason at any time without having to ask them for an address first.
