961  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-19] EU Agrees on Stricter Identification Rules for Crypto Exchanges on: December 19, 2017, 04:47:20 PM
there are hardly any alt only places that let you show up anonymously too
The major exchanges don't let you, but you can still trade about $5000 worth of crypto on Shapeshift at a time.  Since you're anonymous you can pretty much do it to an unlimited extent (you can just keep changing your IP).

If people really want anonymity, they go for the most anonymous place that they can get to, so Bitstamp is definitely a poor example.  They go out of their way to make sure that they're very comfortably compliant.

Because of that, the EU might find it tough to handle P2P exchanges which don't require verification and any other trades which are out of their control.

proper p2p is out of the window completely, but they can do something to places like localbitcoins or bitcoin.de. those are identifiable sites. same goes for shapeshift too i guess. it would suck if these places decide to do a usa and figure it was too much work to accommodate europeans but they'd be throwing away a mountain of fees.
962  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-19] EU Agrees on Stricter Identification Rules for Crypto Exchanges on: December 19, 2017, 01:50:46 PM
if you've ever dealt with bitstamp i find it kinda hard to see how they could possibly make it stricter without inviting the ceo into your house and letting him observe you for a month. there are hardly any alt only places that let you show up anonymously too. nothing much new here.
963  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: December 19, 2017, 01:18:41 PM
Is there any strong reason why BYTES and BB price should not be around 1:1 in long-term? Personally, I don't think there is any. What are your thoughts?

until blackbytes can be conventionally traded there won't be any correlation in price. it's too much hassle for most people to use them as they are.

i also think it's something that most people don't realise the virtues of and maybe won't for a long time but that's ok. that means you can pick them up for next to nothing and wait for them to be understood.
964  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XRP: Poised to Become Digital Gold on: December 18, 2017, 02:14:03 PM
Digital gold? I don't even...

It's the absolute screaming anti digital gold.

There is nothing on coinmarketcap less suited to the role.

It's got a future. Gold ain't it.
965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BUY BITCOIN CASH NOW on: December 18, 2017, 02:11:30 PM
What's inside information about it?

And I majorly doubt they'll ever add it to retail selling unless they rename it.

They'd get their asses sued off for misleading stupid customers.

Charlie Lee who, yknow, actually worked at coinbase said the same thing.
966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $1000 in NXT ICO is now worth $65M on: December 18, 2017, 12:16:26 PM
wow,
all of the coins went to 70 peoples ?
it mean the this movement due to manipulation by those people.
or i am missing something in here ?
also what do you think about this project ? the price is surging like hell and i do not know about it at all,
or to be exact i only saw it a few times and did not take much an attention into it because i could not find something special about them.

all coins did indeed go to that few people but this was a long, long time ago. it's very unlikely the same people still have the same amounts of coins. there was a lot of buying and selling in the early days and no doubt that's continued.

it went up to a 100 million market cap not too long after launch when that amount was a huge deal and then it went to sleep.

the ico was cut short after raising 21 btc. maybe there were sock puppets but i don't think people were interested enough to be gamed.

i know about nxt's history. i don't know anything about its present so can't comment about that.
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $1000 in NXT ICO is now worth $65M on: December 18, 2017, 12:01:06 PM
reasons  why NXT  is  rising?

because of all the other alts it's issuing.

nxt was crippled by the style of its launch for a long time. all of the coins went to 70 people. no one else wanted to touch it because of that distribution.

to be fair it was one of the very first ico type of deals and most people were extremely skeptical so didn't take part.
968  Economy / Speculation / Re: I don't know when, but I have a fairly idea what could cause the bubble to burst on: December 18, 2017, 11:52:15 AM
There are a lot of exchanges now and one exchanges going down cant affect the price of bitcoin its only an exchange, if it were like a few years ago like mt gox it would tell a different story, if one exchange does down then go to other sites.

it absolutely can. each bitcoin currency pairing has a leader and if that goes down confidence takes a huge knock.

gox was catastrophic but by the time it was dead it had almost no market share. it lost its lead months before. it was the amount of historic money caught up in there that hurt.

it's definitely more spread out than in the past but everything's about confidence and that can disappear quickly.
969  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex vs. Gdax on: December 18, 2017, 11:44:16 AM
kind of hard to compare them really. bittrex has millions more coins than gdax but it doesn't have the backing that gdax has. gdax's behavior is also influenced by it being the first stop for noobs which is why often prices are very different to other exchanges.

i would assume that if i had a serious problem i'd have a better chance of getting it resolved eventually with gdax.
970  Economy / Speculation / Re: I don't know when, but I have a fairly idea what could cause the bubble to burst on: December 18, 2017, 02:26:51 AM
I don't use the others all too much so can't comment greatly. The assumption you're making however is that things will go back to normal, if we continue at the rate we are going then bittrex will have to deal with a lot more than 500,000 users online at one time. Right now it's holding together somewhat but if we have another big bull run for bitcoin I don't know that it will cope. I also don't know of a lot that they can do in a short period of time to greatly improve the load capabilities, I think it's just a case of hoping it holds together until such a time when improvements can be made.

all exchanges are making stunning amounts of money right now. they'll be throwing as much as possible at accommodating new users. but unless we've reached an eternal september there will be a point where things cool off. tears of this magnitude don't come along very often and don't last forever.
971  Economy / Speculation / Re: I don't know when, but I have a fairly idea what could cause the bubble to burst on: December 18, 2017, 02:14:43 AM
same goes for almost every single exchange in this scene. hardly any of them can cope. bitstamp said they were adding 100,000 new users per day. bittrex said they topped 500,000 online users. those are fearsome numbers. when things ease up they'll all go back to normal and everyone in support ticket hell should get their problems solved too.

in fact is there anywhere that isn't buckling under the load? i can't think of anywhere that hasn't had some problems. perhaps the hype has peaked now all this futures crap is out of the way and christmas is coming.
972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 18, 2017, 02:07:45 AM
But yeah, IOTA's price is definitely overvalued and ByteBall has a much stronger foundation built for a cheaper cost

iota's lack of fees makes it a different proposition completely. if both survive they'll wind up with different markets. and alot of the future of crypto will be private chains used by companies. no company will use eth or xrp directly. maybe byteball should look into an offshoot serving that too. maybe they are already. i dunno.
973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / why isn't ripple being used in the crypto market for its actual purpose? on: December 16, 2017, 02:09:10 PM
the whole point of ripple is seamless and super quick transfers of different currencies. this is custom built to be perfect for the crypto market.

that being the case where are these ripple gateways? many exchanges like bitstamp have had ripple for years and also have the capacity to be gateways yet never in my life have i seen anyone here say they've found a gateway or used one.

what gives?
974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Women in the cryptocurrency industry on: December 15, 2017, 04:16:55 PM
The lack of female presence in tech is a self reinforced embargo brought on by groupthink.

It's the same as working class people believing working class people don't play tennis...so they don't play tennis either.

If they don't show up in tech roles I couldn't care less just as if I wouldn't care if all tech roles were inhabited by women.

There's nothing stopping anyone doing anything other than societal norms.
975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Cash beat BTC? on: December 15, 2017, 03:35:36 AM
from 0 to 2000$ in 6 month. bitcoin can't do that. people will realize bitcoin cash is better. but now people buy bitcoin because they think bitcoin is gold. not a currency type

in case you hadn't noticed it was zero because it didn't exist and then was magicked up out of thin air. that puts a slightly different angle on it. are you absolutely sure you know what it is?
976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Cash beat BTC? on: December 15, 2017, 02:20:45 AM
it's gonna be added to bitpay soon which will probably make it the primary coin for commerce though i'd massively prefer if that was litecoin. whether you like it or not that's a huge feather in its cap. i wouldn't be surprised if coinbase didn't do the same and add it to their retail section too because they're not so secret big blockers too.

it's weird that it's being taken seriously by these heavyweights when it's still entirely mined by jihan wu and his proxies. almost any other coin has less centralisation. it's pretty much impossible for a coin to be more any more centralised than it is.
977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cardano (ADA) Is The Perfect Fit For Coinbase/GDAX Requirements on: December 15, 2017, 01:21:12 AM
is this a new approach of theirs? in the past they only added what was obviously right up there already and would bring them a ton of cash. i'd be surprised if they pivoted away from that and accepted applications even if it was from the developers.

the only thing i know about cardano is that it appeared out nowhere right up there on coinmarketcap but that seems to be an increasingly regular occurrence.
978  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold analyst throwing shade on bitcoin... does he have a point? on: December 15, 2017, 12:09:01 AM
To answer whether bitcoin is a bubble, someone would need to quantify to what degree people of the world have lost faith in governments and other institutions. How much fear is there that the euro or dollar will crash due to high deficits and overprinting of fiat?

It is possible enough people have lost faith in world leaders to drive concern about crashing dollars/euros/economies to support the growth we're seeing in bitcoin, enough to make it sustainable.

no one in most developed countries cares about this. right now they're piling into bitcoin and alts to get rich and nothing else. normal people understand nothing about money and it's only greeks and cypriots who got a light schooling and even then they weren't subject to third world levels of debasement and inflation.

this is pure speculative mania.
979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold analyst throwing shade on bitcoin... does he have a point? on: December 14, 2017, 10:45:52 PM
i'm not very inclined to believe a gold analyst will have an impartial opinion, but he could turn out to be right in the short term. bitcoin and many other coins have done it plenty of times before.

but people getting into this should be thinking in terms of years, not the next few months. there were 'catastrophic wipeouts' before and then it came roaring back eventually.

and i have no idea what he means about millenials and anyone who writes about returning to your parents' basement is clearly a salty asshole.
980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitConnect market cap dropped from 2 billion to 600 million ? on: December 14, 2017, 10:32:51 PM
Thank you for your answer !

It is rather a good thing, it should not that a rotten fruit spoils the basket.  There is no way to stop that ?

yes - http://bitguru.co.uk/bitconnect-could-be-shut-down/

but it's possible they'll collapse before anything is done by the authorities. or it might limp on for a long time.

either way no one should care other than the people who put money into it and they've had enough warnings.
