961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 12, 2014, 09:13:49 PM
Just spotted this book titled "Anonymous Cryptocurrencies: The rise of bitcoin alternatives that offer true anonymity" at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KZ6WANE

Apparently it gives a favourable writeup of XMR. Seems the author know what he's talking about, I think I'll check it out. The author also has it for sale for bitcoin on his site http://willmartin.com/, as well as some interesting posts regarding anonymity and privacy.
I proofread his book, that helps Smiley. I do not know what he kept and changed from my long mail, though.

Update: I reread my mail from July - there is a lot of things about the theory behind crypto and economy that are very well-thought. I would go as far as saying that the best thing about his book is not the catalogue of cryptos but his considerations about money, privacy... making it a valuable acquisition long after 90% of the coins he is talking about will be gone. I encourage you to get a copy.
962  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT] Mintcoin Community Hangout - 9/11 - Come Join Us! on: September 12, 2014, 04:55:44 PM
Thank you Jessica for this awesome podcast! I know it will take time for confidence to return on Mintcoin and that at the beginning, that will look like a lot of energy for nothing. But eventually, the word will spread out. Keep on going!

I'm speaking high of Mintcoin on the Poloniex trollbox. You should consider joining and speaking about Mintcoin too.

Autumn retreat starts in a bit more than one week now. Anticipating it! Among other things, we'll speak about the Monero Economy Workgroup.
965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 3 Markets on: September 12, 2014, 02:16:18 AM
In the case of HYP I would like to buy some, stake and then sell. Maybe I'm completely missing the point here but all the talk is about 70% interest which, it seems to me, is subject to selling price of HYP.
So, I buy 1.0 HYP for .00001010. I stake according to time limits etc and end up with 1.7 HYP (max) which I then try to sell at todays price .00000715 (if I'm only selling 1.7 HYP and not 50,000 HYP) I get .00001216 and I'm up .00000206. About 20%.
If I wanted to sell 50000 HYP, I would be completely screwed.
I may be missing some esoteric knowledge here and I'd like to be educated. Help please.  Undecided

Sorry, probably need to add that this is absolutely NOT any type of fud. Just trying to grasp how to make the most of an innovative experiment.  Smiley

The most important think with HyperStake is to be realistic. Should you invest 100 BTC and then cash out in a week? No.

HYP, like most high rate PoS coins, has a shallower market. It doesn't do well to instantly buy or sell large volumes of the coin. But, I do want to point out that within the last 24 hours HYP had 2 dumps of 75k HYP and still withheld the exchange rate fairly well.  But the best way is to buy or sell over a period of time, feed the market slowly with buys or with sells. This is beneficial both for the market and for the trader who will get a better price.

And also the rate is 750% annually which comes out to about 18.5% after 9 days (its time to maturity).

Its important to note that even though exchange rate could go down, the value of your holdings can still increase. So if you were to buy 1,000 HYP @ 800 sats and then after 9 days you get your stake and have a total of 1,185 HYP.  The exchange rate could go down all the way to 675 sats and you still break even... But that is only your reward of one stake cycle. You will be faced with a choice to sell all the HYP, sell the stake reward, or to compound it all.

HYP has rewarded most of the coin holders fairly well for their ability to maintain our block chain.

But the main point of HyperStake is not to make people get rich... it is a coin that is an experiment in coin economics, and also one that gives the mining rewards to those that have coin age rather than hash rate.
To elaborate on what presstab said earlier and also to clean some misconceptions.

First, PoS is not a get-rick-quick scheme. PoS is an alternative to PoW, with its own advantages and hindrances. This will be covered in greater detail in mafort's paper.
Second, HYP took years of understanding of PoS technology and economy and attempts to make the best out of it. That's why mere weeks after launch we already have the most advanced coin control wallet and one of the best inflation control technology. This means some scenario won't work, like the 1 HYP to 7.5 HYP. In theory, it should work, but in practice, technicalities won't make it work (here, the technicalities being stake competition).
Finally, PoS is still a complex matter and we are writing a document to explain most thing in as simple a way as we deem it possible. This will require some active collaboration on your part too.

A strategy about PoS is to sell a part of the stake every months, to both make actual profit (and not promise of profit) and to strengthen the market by rendering it less liquid. This is something that years of PoS taught us: higher interests decreases desire for people to sell (because basically when you sell you "stop winning").

There's some serious buy support on polo right now,
Around 500k of HYP over 700sat!

I've NEVER seen that kind of buy support on HYP before....  Is something brewing in the background? :-)
Kushed does wonders on the trollbox too?

i think i am a good exemple :

i have mined TRK , got arounf 120K , i could sell them at pic for around 0.8 BTC, i did not dit it, then HYP came and now it has been multiplied by 4 just by stake , so it's already a 400% profit ( i don't sell them ).

and i forgot i still have my TRK staking also .

buying HYP is like a life insurance !

ps : when i am on Polo trollbox , it's always a pleasure to give some HYP and also promote it .

i give about 2000 HYP on the trollbox when i am there .

Nice job Dev team.

Next step for HYP is Mintap v2 ?
What is Mintap v2?
And thank you for you all you job, waxo!
966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 11, 2014, 04:27:02 PM
apologies about missing you in the last news letter.. my internet and laptop caused many glitches which meant i did miss some people. to go through 3000 messages and find out who it missed would have been impossible. everything is running far better now with a new laptop and new internet so this shouldnt happen again.

and no you havnt missed the train. check pm Smiley
No worries kodtycoon, really Smiley I don't follow much coin and NEM is one of my very short list. I'd love to have more time for it.
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 11, 2014, 03:29:03 PM
I seldom post or even read because I have so much work to do with XMR and HYP so apologies if the question is already answered.
I received NEM Newsletter #5 (I never received the previous one, maybe because of some technical glitches I heard about). After reading it, I am concerned I missed the train for claiming my NEM (IPO beginning of the year). I do NOT want NEMstake, just regular NEM. Please tell me it is not too late Smiley

Thank you.
968  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Creation of the Monero Economy Group on: September 11, 2014, 12:29:49 PM
I wish I could join, but my XMR stack is barely 50. Monero Poverty Crew checkin in.

Maybe you can create "one entity" and join as a collective of "Monero poors" Wink

I'm in with that, too. Just I have no social reputation nor much Monero. My CPU lacks AES-NI
It is too late to mine monero on your computer. Even at the end of April, my future teammates already encouraged me to just buy it, it was cheaper.

The "Monero poors" idea may be just tongue-in-cheek or not from you both, I don't know. But the idea behind it is interesting to consider (not necessarily to accept). AFAIK, "collective of small shareholders" are pretty common in large corporations, no?
969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 10, 2014, 08:23:31 AM
I merged it with Prove me that Monero is not yet-another-shitcoin, which is much more detailled.

It's like Bitcoin, but ~2x faster and without the sudden halvings.
KISS. I love it.
970  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 07, 2014, 02:55:07 AM
And the price doesn't have to change for it to get cheaper:  E[p(t)] is increasing monotonically in t.
hypothesis accepted
Could you explain what E[p(t)] means?

-David Latapie, the infamous socialist, send me a nice (but cryptic) PM about reposting my "Narcissism of small differences" analysis of the sibling rivalry.   Cool
That my way to say "I like your text so much that I posted it as memorable quote on my Google+ account Smiley

Long live taxes! Wink

I see BTC38 listed under others, can you elaborate on this? Also can't find the trading pair @ btc38.
They only mentionned us in a sort of "encyclopedia". That's why they are on other, not on the regular listing.
972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 3 Markets on: September 06, 2014, 07:07:13 PM
Poloniex allowed us to use the word Poloniex for a Poloniex-like theme. For the (legal) record:

Quote
<davidlatapie>We are going to implement themable wallets, that is, people will be able to choose the appearance of their wallet (only colour themes, at least at first). We are planning to use a Poloniex-like theme, but then comes the matter of the name. Ideally, we would call it "Poloniex" but for legal reasons, it might not be possible, even under fair use.
<OldManKidd> davidlatapie <@busoni> I have no problem with it

This doesn't mean we will ultimately choose this name, though. But I prefer the agreement to be written somewhere.
973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 3 Markets on: September 06, 2014, 06:40:35 PM
As its shown in the logo and using pol night ui as a template...
HyperBlue !
I like the name Smiley
So default would be "HyperBlue" and the first variant would be "Poloniex". I will ask Poloniex if we can use the name, but I assume it won't be possible, for legal reason (except if they are OK with fair use). So, start looking for an alternative name.
974  Local / Altcoins (Français) / Re: NOBL, on passe en PoS on: September 06, 2014, 05:50:10 PM
J'aime beaucoup NOBL également. Dommage que sa valeur fonde. 7 satoshi aujourd'hui.
Il y a un marketplace bien foutu et qui prend de l'ampleur. Le truc con c'est que les prix sont affichés en dollars...
Pas bête ça, tiens. Je vais en toucher deux mots à Rofo.
975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 06, 2014, 04:53:30 PM
What's the status of XMR's collaboration with i2p?

Ongoing, we've formed a working group with i2p, Abscond, i2pd, and Anoncoin, called Privacy Solutions. i2pd is reaching a level of working-ness that should allow us to start integrating it soon. Given the number of moving parts it's extremely hard to put a timeframe on it.
There is also an updated link on the OP (look for "announcements") with the latest details on it.

In other news, we updated the list of exchanges, adding latest exchanges and deleting those that failed to deliver. Please remember that we do not endorse any exchange; we only list them once we check they actually propose exchanging Monero.
976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -> Monero Community Hall of Fame <- on: September 06, 2014, 02:33:03 AM
In the name of the whole dev team, I would like to thank you all for your donations. They really help, both as encouragements and as a way to pay the contractors.

Thank you monero community!
977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 06, 2014, 02:29:03 AM
David, Your link to the Monero Community Hall of Fame is for the current one while the link on the first page of this thread is for the original one which then has a link to the current one.  I don't know if you want to change the link on page 1.
Thanks. Fixed.

"Torvalds" in the above context isn't a possessive noun but rather a descriptive modifier.  So no apostrophe is required.

The convention is to use the noun preceding Unix as an adjective.  EG: AT&T Unix (not AT&T's Unix), Berkeley Unix (not Berkeley's Unix), SCO Unix (not SCO's Unix), and Wollongong Unix (not Wollongong's Unix).

Sorry English is such a confusing language, especially for you non-native speakers.   Smiley

Think of it like a color; the word 'red' is a often a noun, but when placed before another noun it turns into an adjective.  Because magic.
So any noun (or noun phrase) can be turned to adjective in English? Thanks!

Who's in control of that address? How are the proceeds split up?
Me and fluffypony. The proceeds are split up according to the priority and funds available.

Donations are encouraged. There is a thread to track and encourage donations, perhaps someone has a link to it.

980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin Mandatory Update! 40%+ SuperStake in 30+ days on: September 05, 2014, 10:10:37 PM
OK, to sum up and react to what I read:
  • Fixing the misleading OP: replace "40%+" with "up to 40%" (even though technically it is up to around 41.25%).
  • Emergency hard fork broke the interest rate. To have it back, a second hard fork is necessary - but not sure the problem we had before won't come back. Extensive testing on a testnet is required. Who steps in? Read the comprehensive (quotes included)
