981  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will never again be priced over $300. on: May 07, 2015, 12:29:39 AM
... I look forward to intelligent, reasoned arguments for how Bitcoin will again find a value north of $300.
Never is a long time.  The US dollar is an empire-backed currency, Bitcoin is a distributed ledger protocol on the internet. Which of these do you think has the longer lifespan?

Historically speaking empires have lifespans measured in single digit centuries.

There is growing evidence that OP sucks at reason and science.
983  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Capitalism vs Communism on: May 04, 2015, 06:05:37 PM
We all use a mix of these today, right?

"So let us approach The Communist Manifesto from the opposite end: where do we live today, in our global postindustrial society? The slogan that is imposing itself more and more is that of "globalization": the brutal imposition of a unified world market that threatens all local ethnic traditions, including the very form of Nation-State. And, in this situation, is not the description in The Manifesto of the social impact of the bourgeoisie more actual than ever?"

Thoughts?
Capitalism vs Communism hasn't been relevant since the '80s.

In 2015 it's more like capitalism vs. capitalism. Spoiler alert, capitalism loses, humanity wins.
986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What was the turning point? on: May 03, 2015, 01:58:06 PM
Is there any one event which made Bitcoin reach a wider audience?
Yes, but it's in the future not the past.
987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Do It! on: May 03, 2015, 01:56:13 PM
Of all the people who engage in illegal activity using bitcoin, how many get caught and have served jail time?
Very few. It's always that way, the police know they can't jail every criminal, so they try to make high profile examples to scare all the others.

For example: http://freakonomics.com/2011/07/27/in-new-york-city-it-still-pays-to-hop-the-subway-turnstile/
988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Do It! on: May 03, 2015, 01:17:19 PM
Bitcoin is a very unique wild new 'thing' with very interesting unusual properties and attributes.  These unusual properties and attributes can enable certain activity which is ILLEGAL!!
Coward. When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty. There is nothing to fear in death, it is the destiny of all mortals. So why not greet eternity with the dignity of being one who didn't crumble beneath fear of bogeymen?

990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese team released software to mine Satoshi's coin on: May 03, 2015, 01:09:27 PM
A Chinese team just released a software, targeting to find the private key of addresses that are believed to be held by Satoshi himself.
Good luck.

991  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Q: Is it better for a child to be born or to be loved? on: May 03, 2015, 02:55:18 AM
Does a baby not choose to move around inside of a mothers stomach when it hears certain music?  Or kick when it hears a certain voice?
Peddle your pseudoscientific emotional appeal garbage "arguments" elsewhere, fool. Neither kicking nor "moving" is a reasonable measure of sentience. A horse might do the same. A newborn infant is roughly the intellectual equivalent of a dog, a 3 year old child is roughly the intellectual equivalent of a chimpanzee.

Dogs are not sentient, chimp sentience is up for debate, so we can say that a child under three years old is not yet capable of sentience.
992  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The problem i see with bitcoin. on: May 02, 2015, 09:41:21 PM
you can't blame people for trying to make quick profits.
We're not annoyed at them for wanting to get rich. We're annoyed at them for public whining about their failure to get rich quick, and worse still blaming bitcoin for their failure.

Exactly. Bitcoin was created by a bunch of teenagers after all.
I thought maybe you were a troll worth ignoring, thank you for removing all doubt.

you can't blame people for trying to make quick profits.
We're not annoyed at them for wanting to get rich. I want to be rich just as much as the next chump.

We're annoyed at them for public whining about their failure to get rich quick, and in some cases even blaming bitcoin for this failure.
994  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Poll] what do you think about indonesian government's policy of executing drug dealers? on: May 02, 2015, 09:33:57 PM
Indonesian executing drug dealers came up a lot in the news lately and it seems there's quite a number of protesters everywhere.
Capital punishment in the modern world is an asinine tragedy and a total abortion of justice. In capitalism, profit finds a way to be made as water finds a way to flow downhill. Executions change nothing.
995  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: JUST HAD 0.92329 BTC STOLEN - HOW??? on: May 02, 2015, 09:27:46 PM
Correct.  You just have to make sure you generate the
seed on a machine that has never been online and never will be.
Not never has been, only never will be again. The machine can be online 5 seconds before you generate the seed, so long as you ensure it will never connect to the internet again.

This includes network-capable printers if you're printing paper wallets, best bet is to physically remove the network card from the machine!

996  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sexy Conservatives Will Out-Breed Barren Liberals on: May 02, 2015, 08:40:34 PM
Unfortunately for OP and his ilk, ideas rely on neither egg nor sperm for reproduction. Conservatives lost the game two decades ago, when the internet emerged from military secret to mass public use.

As the old saying goes, the truth shall set you free.
997  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Q: Is it better for a child to be born or to be loved? on: May 02, 2015, 08:14:06 PM
Naturally the termination of a healthy Aryan fetus was unacceptable
How very fascist of you.

The pendulum swung far to the right, and this once-fascist nation became the most hideously violent in the history of the world. Now the pendulum swings hard in the opposite direction, where do you suppose it will lead?
Did you know that in Germany today, the de linke ("the left") party, which controls 13% of parliament seats has a motto, "Germany can do better than capitalism". These few are radical people who believe decent food, shelter, healthcare, and education should be provided to all human beings as a birthright.

Ever since WW2 Germany has been slowly drifting to the left, and now Germans are legitimizing the radical views of anticapitalists by putting them into positions of governance. In the long run, the great irony may prove to be that Germany's relatively recent brush with fascism is the reason that nation will be leading the pack for the 21st century's revolution focused around compassionate ethics. Adolf, you are the reason Germany became an early Mecca of Compassion at the beginning of the End of Capitalism. Perhaps this is your atonement...
998  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: JUST HAD 0.92329 BTC STOLEN - HOW??? on: May 02, 2015, 08:08:34 PM
Windows 7 and VMware from encrypted container running Ubuntu
Likely the problem is here, how good is the entropy of this encryption?

Pretty strong. i use truerypt
Damn that really sucks. I don't know what to tell you, other than the obvious:

There's really no substitute for cold storage
I personally never played with Electrum because I only trust cold storage.
999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you were to recreate Bitcoin to be better and more secure. How would you? on: May 02, 2015, 08:05:52 PM

Still waiting for a time when whole wallets can be encrypted is such a way that they can be transferred to another person, and the first person will not be able to use any of the addresses therein, and the second person will have control of the addresses to use as his. In addition, nobody else will be able to transfer a wallet he happens to find, unless he has the right PGP address for that wallet.

When this happens, Bitcoin will be deemed so strong and anonymous that investors will flock to mining.

Authorities will realize that they don't have any control anymore, so they will start shutting the big mining operations down. After this is done, they will start going door-to-door after all the bitcoins they can arrest people for holding.
Sounds like a good recipe for civil war 2.0.

7 Reasons Why Abortion Should Be Illegal ... :

http://allwomenstalk.com/7-reasons-why-abortion-should-be-illegal
"You are ending a life".

You cannot end something that has not yet begun. A fetus is not a life, not yet. In strict medical terms a fetus is a parasite, and the pregnant female is the host.

"The child doesn't have a choice."

It's not a child, it's a fetus, utterly incapable of making any choice. Sentience (self-awareness) is a pre-requisite for decision making.

"ADOPTION IS ANOTHER OPTION"

Adoption requires the medical risks and financial implications of going through a full-term pregnancy. This is not truly an option for most people, for example pregnant teens straddling the poverty line.

"MANY WOMEN ARE ENDANGERED BY ABORTIONS"

Poorer women do seek out the cheapest abortions, and some of them become ill or die as a result. If this offends you, lobby to all abortions funded by taxes.

"DOCTORS ARE SUPPOSED TO SAVE LIVES"

That is not a valid argument, it is a cheap appeal to emotion.

"TIMES HAVE CHANGED >> Leaving your child on someone’s doorstep or committing murder are both considered a major penalty, so why not abortion?"

Yes, times have changed. Roe v. Wade was over 40 fucking years ago now, abortion is legal and it will always remain legal. Get over it, conservatards.

"THERE WOULD BE LESS MENTAL ANGUISH CAUSED"

Yeah, I'm sure there was WAY less mental anguish back when abortion was illegal and pregnant women were killing themselves with coathangers and staircases to abort unwanted pregnancies.  Roll Eyes
