981  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: USB port blocker on: September 22, 2023, 10:57:00 AM
I think he refer to either,
1. Transaction with many inputs.
If a transaction is containing many inputs, the transaction virtual size can be high but the signature is just one. Or is that wrong? Or is the high size of the transaction that result to the issue?

With P2PK, P2PKH, P2SH-P2WPKH and P2WPKH, 1 input always require 1 signature. But on P2TR and depending on spend condition, you could utilize signature aggregation where many inputs only require 1 (aggregated) signature.

2. Transaction which spend input which require to reveal long script or contain many signatures.
Did you mean transactions that are broadcasted using a multisig wallet? If it is multisig, I do not use it as a multisig but as a single signature wallet.

Multisig is just one of the example. Anyway, since the original concern is about size of PSBT, you could just check example on BIP 174[1] to see how long PSBT data could be.

982  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Building my own HODL service for lazy friends/family on: September 22, 2023, 10:30:21 AM
I'm not interested with your idea. But even i were a lazy person, i would expect custodial service at least properly registered on correct category and have insurance (in case your went bankrupt or your service got hacked). Could you fulfill that?

I just don't know the legalities of building a business around that.

That would be difficult since you need to check laws on country where your service is available. At very least, i know custodial cryptocurrency service usually can categorized as money transmitter.
983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.Dat Help on: September 22, 2023, 09:43:49 AM
Before another attempt to crack your wallet.dat file, i would advice you to,
1. Backup wallet.dat, preferably on different secure device or storage drive.
2. Write down everything you remember, such as characteristic of your password and what you've tried so far.
3. Check all personal data on your old laptop and online service (e.g. email, storage, note) you use. Who knows you might write down hint or even the password itself.
4. Do you currently or used to have habit of reusing same/similar password? If yes, that could be hint to brute-force faster.
984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Operate Bitcoin Core on a laptop with restricted storage capacity on: September 22, 2023, 09:31:46 AM
Are there some recommended approaches for running Bitcoin Core on a laptop with constrained storage capacity?

1. Use pruned mode.
2. Replace current storage drive with new internal storage drive to the laptop, which have bigger capacity.

Is it possible to use an external hard drive as the data directory (datadir)?

It is possible.

How does this setup work, and would I need to pay attention to?

You just need to specific where should Bitcoin Core store it's data. Just be careful sudden power loss or disconnect on external storage could cause corruption, which force you to perform reindex and even redownload corrupt blockchain data.
985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does this still count? on: September 22, 2023, 09:09:44 AM
I get your point, but
1. AFAIK any OS disable bluetooth by default.
That's true most of the Operating System disable default Bluetooth by default but sometimes the users enable it and don't really care much about it because of the short range it has. Some people enable to it connect Bluetooth speakers and headphones and don't really care much about security when it comes to Bluetooth connection and that's can make things easier for hackers.

2. Bluetooth if OP already uninstall all network driver.
The same answer here as well like most people don't really care much about Bluetooth when it comes to security and they may not disable it only to connect some Bluetooth enabled devices.

That doesn't apply for OP though since he has some security awareness and plan to use his PC only to manage his Bitcoin. As for people who don't care about security/bluetooth is likely to be connected to internet all the time anyway.

For instance, do we know which hardware and software are always good sources of entropy and which aren't?

It's easy to know bad entropy source, such as current time. But even source of entropy which usually deemed good/secure can't be always good/reliable. For example, /dev/urandom output used to be predictable for about a minute on embedded device[1].

986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Analytics is More of an Art Than Science on: September 22, 2023, 08:49:40 AM
For Bitcoin as timestamp machine, it's already possible with OpenTimestamps[1]. Some news also report Italian bank already use it[2].

[1] https://opentimestamps.org/
[2] https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2017/04/11/intesa-sanpaolo-trials-data-recordkeeping-on-the-blockchain/

That's a first step , but with blocksize of 1MB and such fees not much can be created on BTC in massive scale .

But depending on your needs, you could avoid small block size problem by utilizing merkle tree and only store top/parent hash. Peter Todd did that on Internet Archive data[1]. Otherwise if you don't mind altcoin which have bigger block size and have sufficient skill/time, you could fork opentimestamps[2] to support certain altcoin.

987  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinSnack.com Help needed for Bitcoin Vending Machine on: September 21, 2023, 09:56:21 AM
I have a vision that I believe aligns perfectly with the values and aspirations of this community - to bring Bitcoin closer to everyday life, one street at a time. To bring this vision to life, I am embarking on a journey to launch a Bitcoin snack vending machine initiative. These vending machines will not only provide convenient snacks but will also promote the use of Bitcoin in a tangible way, fostering awareness and understanding of this groundbreaking technology.

Some technical question,
1. How many transaction confirmation required before customer can obtain the snack?
2. If you plan to accept 0 confirmation, how do you handle abuse which utilize RBF and full RBF?
3. Do you plan to support Bitcoin Lightning Network?
4. Do you plan to support altcoin and fiat?
988  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [INFO - DISCUSSION] Child-Pays-For-Parent (CPFP) on: September 20, 2023, 10:40:04 AM
Bob's sentiment towards Alice give me a bit chuckle, considering there are some people (on different board) who feel angry or feel helpless their incoming transaction never got confirmed.

There's small mistake in this image. You mentioned "Alice, Bob and Carol" while other image only mention Alice and Bob.

Description on 3rd panel could be improved. Miner ideally decide to include both transaction if average/median TX fee rate of both transaction is high/expensive enough. It's possible Alice's TX has big size/weight, while Bob's TX has small size/weight.
989  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners on: September 20, 2023, 09:45:06 AM
While it's fun project, i find it's a shame ASIC chip isn't used in any way. By ASIC chip, i mean something like BM1387 (which used on Antminer S17 and GekkoScience Compac F). Although on bright side, they can promote their device to altcoin (which can be mined with CPU) community such as Monero.

Once online, this is the Pool where the Nerdminers connect to:
https://web.public-pool.io/#/

I didn't know there are other Bitcoin solo pool besides solo ckpool. Do you know how reliable is it compared with solo ckpool?

Han Solo MiningWhere all this started. Valerio Vaccaro is still developing HanSolo miners. He is adding support to new boards and improving the current software. All this work might eventually be merged in the nerdminer code.

You forget to include actual link for Han Solo Mining.

We're Not Understand You're!

OP, please speak (write) English.  Wink

I just checked all OP threads/posts and it looks like he use machine translation[1]. To OP, please try to use different translation website (such as DeepL[2] or Bing Translator[3]) because we unable to understand what you've said.

991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does this still count? on: September 18, 2023, 11:04:57 AM
Of course one of the most important things to understand as a newbie in the crypto space is how to secure your digital assets. Therefore I decided to give air gapping a try In other to understand air gapping I tried air gapping an old windows PC today  since I didn't know a lot of technical stuff about the internal components of the computer I decided to uninstall all network drivers on the computer I tried doing this from my windows control panel.
Will this still count as an air gapped device or do I still have to remove the hard ware  networking components from the PC board?

Since you said "old windows PC", does that mean the current OS has been installed long time ago and already connected to internet many times? If yes, people usually don't count it as airgapped PC. At least, you should format the storage, reinstall the OS and install other necessary software (such as wallet software) and never connect to internet again. And it's recommended to remove networking component if it's possible.

And will it be possible for an hacker to install those drivers remotely?

No, in first place the hacker must connected to your PC.
992  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: fastest way to get bip44/bip49 addresses from seed phrase! on: September 18, 2023, 10:42:23 AM
Short answer, just use btcrecover[1] which have multi CPU and GPU support. Based on comment on it's source code, it's definitely support BIP 44 and 49[2]. If you need specific path, you can use parameter --bip32-path as well[3].

UPDATE - Electrum 4.4.6

# Release 4.4.6 (August 18, 2023) (security update)
 * Lightning:
   - security fix: multiple lightning-related security issues have
been fixed. We will disclose these in detail on 2023-09-11.
These release notes will also be updated at that time.
     In the meantime, please update.
--snip--
--snip--

5 hari lalu, detail untuk security issue pada LN telah dipublikasikan.

Code:
# Release 4.4.6 (August 18, 2023) (security update)
 * Lightning:
   - security fix: multiple lightning-related security issues have
     been fixed. See disclosures:
     - https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/security/advisories/GHSA-8r85-vp7r-hjxf

994  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New Wallet for Crypto Gaming and Gamers on: September 17, 2023, 10:55:04 AM
--snip--
These are several interesting points, but in my personal opinion, you must first convince game companies to use your wallet before convincing players. Most games use popular wallets and give the option of connecting two or three wallets, and players cannot choose a different wallet by their personal choice.

I think you actually wanted to say "to support your wallet..." rather than "to use your wallet...". Company usually use different wallet software since it need some specific business feature (e.g. can handle million address without lagging or assign an address to a customer).

Other gaming companies make their own wallet and force players to use only their custom wallet and have no other choice.

For better or worse, there aren't many gaming company who can afford and willing to spend money for that.

I tried Wolfram Alpha pattern finder[1], but it unable to show any "Possible sequence identification".

I need it to my test which I implement my own trained AI.

If your AI is LLM (such as ChatGPT), don't forget it's bad when number is involved. ChatGPT sometimes fail at simple basic.

996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: hello need help technical support please ! on: September 13, 2023, 12:48:29 PM
I just remember Bitcoin Core have separate program called bitcoin-wallet which can be used to obtain some data from your corrupted wallet. Here's short example how to use it (i already tested it before writing this post),

Code:
./bitcoin-wallet -datadir=/path/to/directory/which/has/wallet/file -dumpfile=salvage.txt dump

Above command will create salvage.txt file which can be opened with any text editor. Unfortunately i don't know how to interrupter or process the output file.

Code:
./bitcoin-wallet -datadir=/path/to/directory/which/has/wallet/file salvage

Above command will create wallet.dat.[TIMESTAMP].bak on path where wallet.dat is located. You can either attempt to load wallet.dat.[TIMESTAMP].bak on Bitcoin Core or other recovery software.
997  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: September 12, 2023, 11:58:42 AM
Since no one on this thread is coordinating coinjoins themselves, it's proof that all the petitioners don't actually want to circumvent coinjoin censorship, they just want to harm the reputation of open source software.

Isn't it obvious most people doesn't have necessary skill or experience to run their own server (whether it's WabiSabi coordinator or something else)? For example, if i show people these repository and ask which one needed to run WasiSabi coordinator, i wonder how many of them could give correct answer.
https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WabiSabi
https://github.com/zkSNACKs/NWabiSabi
https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi

Most people is more likely to run different CoinJoin wallet/application or even using mixer (which is custodial by nature).
998  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [INFO - DISCUSSION] Mnemonic Code Words (BIP39) on: September 11, 2023, 01:05:34 PM
Aren't the 2048 rounds of HMAC-SHA-512 as PBKDF2 there to also make the derivation from the initial seed computationally expensive so that brute-forcing is rendered considerably slower?

While it makes brute-force slower, BIP 39 only state "The iteration count is set to 2048 and HMAC-SHA512 is used as the pseudo-random function."[1].

I don't know much about SHA-512 compared to SHA-256 in terms of computational complexity and expense, though.

Theoretically SHA-512 is computationally more complex. Although depending on the hardware and OS, SHA-512 might run faster[1-2].

999  Other / Meta / Re: Too Many Forum Boards - Outdated Threads - Let's Delete Boards on: September 10, 2023, 09:59:45 AM
It's rather unique suggestion. But rather than delete, IMO it'd be better if certain inactive board under Archival board instead.

Maybe this is the first time I read someone ask to reduce the number of boards in this forum Cheesy

It's not bad @OP, but I just always see a thread asking for adding more boards.

I think these thread aren't entirely for discussion, imagine if the thread in Important announcement moved to Bitcoin discussion board where it's really active everyday, no one will see that announcement except the administrator pin that thread.

Pin so many thread isn't really good too, so with the current boards we have is still fine.
If threads in Important Announcements will be moved to Bitcoin discussion board, which is active every day, it will be just fine, and everyone will see it, if it is important announcement.

It'll be buried quickly, unless most recent important announcement pinned.
1000  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Creating a Bitcoin Core seed using base 6 number (Dice roll) on: September 09, 2023, 11:56:49 AM
you should use a debiasing procedure like the one in the codex32 booklet: https://www.secretcodex32.com/
That's an interesting approach for dice, and one I had not seen before. It is essentially the same basis as the Von Neumann debiasing algorithm for coins I linked to earlier in the thread, where you flip twice and discard the result if the two flips are the same, but adapted for dice.

Having said that, it's also far more complicated. I like to keep things simple and would just stick to coin flips.

Relevant discussion thread, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440916.0. Anyway, i also agree Codex32 is rather complicated.

I saw Andrew Poelstra talking about this on a "Bitcoin Layer" podcast recently. I have casino grade dice, with the sharp edges. Are these really biased? I assumed the casinos would demand some controls during manufacturing to try un-bias the dice.

Unless you're an expert, there's no way you could know whether the company actually create dice with casino grade / reduced biased. It's not rare occurrence for company to exaggerate or even lying about their product standard/capability.
