1461  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 on: February 02, 2023, 03:47:45 PM
As I said, Ding Liren's failure had a dramatic effect on his rating - he not only flew out of the 2800 club (where only Carlsen is now lol), but even fell to third place. Now he has 2788 points, while Nepomniachtchi (who moved up to second place for the first time in his career) has 2793. Quite an interesting rearrangement before the match for the chess crown. However, a match and a tournament are still very different things, so it's not a fact that any conclusions can be drawn from these events.

after reading this post I realized I don't know much of the calculations of the rating system was curious about it
I understand how it works to match similar level players and that'll earn more points by beating someone with a higher rating than you instead of a lower one
but I didn't know how's the math on that

found this:
https://www.chess.com/terms/elo-rating-chess
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system

the probability bit is really interesting:

Quote
Calculating the probable outcome of chess games is one of the fascinating aspects of this rating system: it takes into consideration the fluctuations in a player's performance. From time to time, we all have bad days when we play poorly. Even when we are at our best, we can still slip up and make a game-losing blunder.

OG is out.
Congratulations to Entity and Tundra for having the last two slots for the WEU region and they're now going to Lima. Smiley
It was a fun tie breaker and we thought of it as an infinite loop sequence that might take a few more days but then, Tundra just proved that they deserve the slot and if you guys have followed Sneyking on his Twitter account, he's such a funny guy.
.

Too bad I missed the Tie breaker games; it must have been fun to watch. Congrats to Tundra and Entity. OG is still a hit and miss lately. I am surprised they were able to take the tiebreaker to the 3rd round.

We have no quality DOTA to watch until the major. Fortunately, there is plenty of CS:GO to watch.

I wonder how many hours these guys play each day and what are the deep effects on their health and fight/flight system response (hormones, neurotransmitters so forth and so on)

must be interesting to study it

I ended up missing the tie breaker games here too
congratulations for the winners

1464  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Kevin Rose hackeado e algumas dicas de segurança on: February 01, 2023, 02:41:59 PM

1465  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Common Online Gambling Fraud on: February 01, 2023, 02:28:33 PM
Many good sites are fraudulent, making it difficult to catch scams online casinos can be quite addictive. Many players usually do not know when to stop playing and end up losing more money than they should therefore, players should set rules about how much time and money they can spend on casino sites. Any sane player must curb greed and passion otherwise they risk becoming victims of gambling addiction.

on the other hand we have more and more systems in place to catch abusers
from AI systems to human verification

of course it is a game of cat and mouse
it'll never end

we put up more security systems and people will find more ways to break them or find new methods of fraud (and/or privacy protection)
1466  Economy / Gambling / Re: Duelbits.com | Casino & Sportsbook | VIP | Instant withdrawals! on: February 01, 2023, 02:17:50 PM
@Duelbitsscamedme I don't see any problem asking KYC as in the first place it is on their terms and conditions, not because you place a huge bet in total last year doesn't mean you won't be asked for KYC. I am sure there is a reason why do they ask for KYC it's either there is a skeptical things or unusual behavior showing in the account and based on your screenshot with the support I think they explained to you that they need to determine your identity and your location.

Joe Perry you’re obviously some sort of shill for Duelbits . You literally took it out of context and then defended Duelbits. Why would they magically need kyc after I am closing my account? The reason is they want sort of petty revenge . It’s also in there tos so f they want they can steal your money if they want. But not getting into that. I really di t want to spend time talking to shill but yea I told them I am closing my acccount way before kyc . They only asked for after I accused them of scamming and I wanted to ciose my account . And my average withdrawal is around 200 to 1000$. They could have asked for anytime but magically after I accused them of scamming and closing account they are trying to steal a measly 10$

well, if it's merely 10 usd does it make any difference?

I'd guess that they probably have systems and checkpoints in place to automatically ask KYC for some accounts if these checkpoints are triggered.
not sure if it'd be a manual thing, I don't think they'd need or care for stealing your 10 usd... but we never know

1469  Economy / Gambling / Re: Duelbits.com | Casino & Sportsbook | VIP | Instant withdrawals! on: January 31, 2023, 08:07:37 PM
Hopefully there were no abuse on this free promo code. Although $2 is not a big amount but the chance of abuse is always there especially because it is free money without any other requirement. Maybe having a wagering requirement to claim the code will be a good option, no need to be big wagering, it can be something like a hundred dollar wager may reduce the chance of abuse.

Yeah, I agree that there should be wagering requirement to claim the promo code.  Other casino often have wagering requirement to claim promocodes, other even requires $3k and above wagering amount for the recent week as wagering requirement to claim a $5 promo code.  This will make players to be active and meet the requirement in order to be eligible for the promo code.

Indeed, one of the flaw of non-wagering requirement promo code is that they are easily farmed by bots.

I'm suggesting to have wagering requirement does not mean that I'm against free bonus that can be claimed by all users. Back to possibly abuse attempt for the bonus code, I'm sure duelbits is aware enough for this and I'm sure duelbits have their own way to prevent it. My main point is to suggest combination between 100% free bonus and bonus with wagering requirement because I think it will be more effective to attract new players as well as to make them play with what they get and hopefully these new players decide to deposit and become active players. Having free bonus code most of the time is good to attract new players to come but I doubt that those who come because of free $2 will be active players.

they probably have systems in place to detect cheaters too
apart from that free bonuses are usually not so big in a way that would incentivize cheating, and even if someone claim from multiple accounts and end up winning big with a small bet they'd need to KYC to claim the prize

is there anything else I'm not seeing?

nice to see they putting the effort to bring more attention to Mr. Roo
this of making a brand character recognizable and with personality and authentic is an art
Yuga labs is doing a good work with Curtis, their main character too

really cool
The Roobet team has always active in big promotions presenting Mr.Roo their mascot and all the players know about it.The rewards for players is also big with huge giveaways also if you find them on twitter and have chance to earn decent rewards. They have already been a brand in crypto casino space with lot of active players.

yes, I totally see this
can you imagine a world where Mr. roo is as known as other characters from entertainment? quite crazy to think like that
probably for this reason some big brands invest in meme creation

memes > ideas > culture

Kangaroos are famous for boxing Cheesy Is Roobet a sponsor of any boxing promotions or boxers? Never heard of that. Would be cool of we see Roobets mascot in boxing gloves on boxing banners during pre-post fight conferences or weigh-ins.

Boxing is where money are. I am sure that it will cost millions to become a sponsor or place a banner on the ring. But, we see that Roobet has top athletes among their ambassadors, so I think it is possible to see one day Roobet during major boxing fights.
So far I know that Roobet has been a sponsor of several UFC/MMA athletes and indeed it can be said that Roobet is quite active about it, it's just that Roobet hasn't become a sponsor in a UFC/MMA event so the name Roobet isn't in every event unlike one of the big casinos which is indeed a sponsor so that their name or logos appears in the octagon
They don't have direct sponsorship to any such team or event but they have partnered with host Bruce Buffer to advertise Roobet on bigger level but in future they might have bigger plans also and we can see Mr.Roo logo on some players jersey with global reach but these take time and well pay off to them.

nice to see they putting the effort to bring more attention to Mr. Roo
this of making a brand character recognizable and with personality and authentic is an art
Yuga labs is doing a good work with Curtis, their main character too

Undecided

@Disruptivas

people definitely don't care where they put their money.

surprised by the fact this happening in USP too
it's the hardest college in Brazil to go in

not sure if all are aware but Brazil has public and private colleges
public ones are free of charge, all paid with taxes but with no fees at all for students.

It would be very indecent if the first place in such a prestigious tournament was taken by a chess player with two defeats (even if it was Carlsen himself). Still, I will assume that the first place will go to either Giri or Abdussatorov - at the moment they are playing very reliably and they have not a single defeat.

do you know how long we still have before the tournament ends?
is this one also on lichess or other place where we can keep up with the PGNs on table?
thanks

Today is a day off from the tournament. There are three gaming days left: 27, 28 and 29. If you want to watch the games online, then you should probably choose something on Twitch (I don’t know what language is your native) there are always a lot of streams from the pros (I always watch such since I don't have a high level of understanding of what's happening over the board and I need an announcer). I myself do not have time to watch classics online now (and in fact, few people have that much time and this is the main problem of this format).

yes, I thought you can probably find commented videos on youtube and so on
though video is not my favorite format due to the time it takes
would like to check the PGNs to see the lines and games and try to learn a bit by watching how they play

I think there needs to be some A/B test going on and they are trying to figure out the most efficient way of making money for themselves, and I believe that there will be some issues in the future when this happens, I am not saying that it will be a great period or anything like that, it will probably be a very bad period for us until they figure it out.

However, when they do figure it out, I believe that it is going to be incredible and will be liked by many people. It will basically be trying to give away money to gamblers for gambling, and the most efficient way of doing it as well. I think the greatest situation we are in right now would be just accepting the fact that we should wait for it.

patience is a really important virtue to develop and pratice
after all they say that the stock market was a device of transferring wealth from impatient to patient ones

have you ever considered that people that have no emotional control are usually more anxious and will end up losing more money?
1479  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: January 26, 2023, 01:52:25 PM
a good reminder is to never use a mobile number for 2FA
opt for google authenticator or a yubikey
much safer and it can't be SIM swapped
better to consider security practices before something bad happens than afterwards.
Never heard of yubikey, but Google authenticator is definitely a much better alternative to using a mobile number for 2FA, but there is a critical issue associated with it which I experienced myself.

The issue is that backup keys are necessary to restore 2FA accounts, but most newbies aren't aware of this stuff and end up getting screwed later on.

yubikey is a physical device
but in reality even a trezor can act as 2FA in some websites
not sure about a ledger though, would have to look into it

it's always important to stay alert online and remember that no system is fail proof
