The security deposit for creating markets is prohibitively expensive at the current bitcoin prices, could you please reduce it?

How high is it currently in mBTC?
1303  Other / Off-topic / Re: When is Bitcoins going to die? on: June 09, 2017, 11:12:48 AM
I hope bitcoin dies soon. A happy few own most bitcoins, not what cryptocurrency is supposed to be about.

I rather see an equally distributed coin take first place.

Unfortunately, the big majority of altcoins is heavily premined or flawed in other ways...
We need more real developers instead of greedy people who do scammy ICOs!

Locking withdrawal address could be dangerous if you lose access
to the withdrawal address.
Write down the private key for your Bitfinex withdrawal address and store it where you have stored backups from all your other private keys? Just a thought. Smiley

Written paper can be lost or destroyed (e.g. a fire burning down the house where you store it) or even be unreadable
due to fading out.

Thank you guys for your help though, I will probably go with a combination of 2FA and withdrawal confirmations.

Is there any additional method to secure your BFX account aside from 2FA?

There are quite a few options there

You may whitelist IP addresses which are allowed to access the site (though it is not really recommended if you have a dynamic IP address). You may also disallow withdrawals from new IP addresses for 24 hours in case someone steals your credentials and tries to withdraw your funds. If I'm not mistaken, you can also lock withdrawal addresses, i.e. the withdrawals will be possible only to the specified addresses. There seem to be a few other options but I didn't look into them

Thank you for the explanation of available methods!
Unfortunately, my ISP only offers dymanic IP adresses  Lips sealed

1307  Economy / Gambling / Re: FAIRLAY - SPORTS BETTING for experts - highest liquidity, provably best odds on: June 07, 2017, 12:58:45 PM
Good idea.  We thought about it.  We would have to convert the altcoin to bitcoin and when you exchange currencies there are always fees.  But if you only deposit 10mBTC, these fees would probably be lower than Bitcoin transaction fees right now.

Anyway, we hope the community will get rid of Core devs like Luke Jr and Greg Maxwell who promote full blocks and high fees.   It's a real pitty that most Core devs have no knowledge of and no feeling for business and economics and are also too arrogant to listen to the most successful business men in the space.

By limiting the supply for onchain transactions  they also stall the demand for it, because people will use alternatives.  Every drug dealer knows, that you first have to provide a cheap and large supply before you can expect high demand.    The self-righteous  behaviour of Blockstream is hindering the growth of the network and also the amount of transaction fees in the future and therefor the security of Bitcoin.

Lightning network is a good idea and we think it should be tried. But every business man knows, that the path from a good idea to a product that can and will be used by millions is a long and difficult one.   Unfortunately Core devs are horrible entrepeneurs, their Company generates a loss of about 1m per month with no light at the end of the tunnel.  We are again asking all our customers not to trust Core with any economic decisions.

I´m glad you are considering it.

This is simply a big problem for small deposits if the bitcoin transaction fee is developing like this:

1308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Exchange loses 14 million worth of ETH: Trapped in a smart contract on: June 06, 2017, 09:33:21 AM
Data from EtherScan shows that the contract in question https://etherscan.io/address/0x1e143b2588705dfea63a17f2032ca123df995ce0#code currently holds 67,317.25 ETH – an amount worth roughly $14.7m at current ether prices.

What next? Please keep us posted.

Due to the price increase the trapped ETH are already 17,289,091.26 in today´s USD  Sad
Quite a lot of money.

Plenty of other marketplaces like his old site are still up and running. Not everyone

the first to do it is always the one who gets destroyed as a warning to everyone else. he pioneered the idea and planted the seed. everyone else from now on will get normal sentences.

and probably 90% of dark markets are operated out of the fbi office anyway.

I would do the same if I worked for the FBI. Setup a dark market and use it as a honeypot to catch
some drug dealers, weapon dealers and so on.

Spannend wird es doch erst wieder bei einem Chain Split Anfang August...

Da wird sich zeigen wohin es wirklich für den BTC (und den eventuellen BTC-Ableger) Kurs geht.

Any plans to add other cryptos aside from BTC?
With the ongoing debates about scaling, blocksize and so on it might be worth thinking
about introducing other means of deposits.

This would also help with the rather high fees that are necessary in order
to make a deposit.

E.g. you are already down a few percent if you deposit like 10 mBTC into
Fairlay, simply due to the current level of BTC transaction fees.
This is not a problem with large deposits, but for small deposits this really
is a problem.

tl;dr: It would probably make sense to add at least another cryptocurrency  Grin

1317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Small fortune, now which country ? on: May 28, 2017, 03:22:13 PM
Guys, i made a small fortune in altcoin/bitcoin. In which country should i settle ?
I have no wife, no kids, just a girlfriend, i´m free to go wherever i want (she´ll go with me).
But it has to be a bitcoin-friendly country.
I have no intention to buy lambos, just a peaceful life.
Thanks.

Oh, and my age is 53, that makes a difference too.

I am not from Japan but seeing the development in that country better to go in that country and settle it so that if you are going to do business in cryptocurrency you will be free from tax and it is legal their so you dont have to worry about it. 25% of you stock convert it to fiat currency and buy a house and some usefull things in life and then balance keep in bank and what ever you are going to earn in interest enjoy with it balance 75% crypto currency you can do daily small trading and enjoy in that . Give your girl what ever she wants and keep her happy

This sounds like a really bad relationship strategy. She will be spoiled as **** if you cater to every wish of your gf  Grin
1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy 1 Bitcoin on: May 28, 2017, 03:11:08 PM
Lots of things can happen in 30 years.

But have 1 Bitcoin just in case is a worth advise.

I don't know what is the threshold for being among 1% rich today

I read somewhere that the threshold is a yearly income above one of the following (I post various currencies because
I don´t know your local currency) amounts:

>32400 $ / year
>30250 € / year
> 223000 yuan / year

Not sure how accurate this information is though, it could be a little higher nowadays.

1319  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price going below 2k$ on: May 27, 2017, 04:53:27 PM
The recent drop has at least made the transaction fees more affordable again.

Let´s not forget that some of the use cases of Bitcoin like micro-payments are only
viable if transaction fees are cheap.

1320  Economy / Speculation / Re: nrd525 Market Tracker on: May 27, 2017, 01:21:02 PM
Nice thread, I really like your insights.

However I was wondering why you are still recommending BFX as the exchange of choice.
I lost a lot of trust in them last year during the hack and am surprised how they have managed
to keep their position as one of the high-volume exchanges.

What makes you so confident that it´s still a good idea to lend out funds at BFX?
I admit that the rates are very attractive, but as I mentioned I´m lacking the trust
I once had in BFX before the events of 2016.

Regarding the BTC price I sold all my holdings at roughly 2300 with the intention to buy in the 1300-1400 $ / BTC
range. If this works out this will lead to a big increase in my BTC holdings.
I see that you are thinking of employing a similar strategy.
