1201  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-01] F2Pool Reneges: Bitcoin Pool Pulls Segwit2x Support Over Hard Fork on: September 02, 2017, 09:35:10 AM
...
Maybe we should wait for the recent quadrupling of the blocksize before we stat deciding that another doubling of the blocksize is going to be a risk worth taking.

Oh, and you forgot to mention that the fork is being run by a completely different group of programmers to those that developed the Bitcoin over the past 7-8 years?

...

If I look at the current Segwit "adoption rate", not many users are using Segwit transactions. Therefore Iīm highly skeptical that Segwit usage will reach a level where it really quadruples the blocksize.

I know that the fork is run by a different group of programmers. Is that a bad thing? Maybe they are actually better than the current Core Devs. Besides, many of the current Core Devs joined just a few years ago. Many of the original Core Devs are not around anymore and have quit the Bitcoin community and Bitcoin development for a variety of reasons.

1202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What command under linux to generate wallets with value on: September 02, 2017, 09:27:17 AM
I canīt help you directly with your question, but maybe the following website already offers what you want to develop!

https://bitinfocharts.com/de/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html

You can find some fascinating information there. E.g. there is only a single BTC address with
a balance of more than 100000 Bitcoins (the Bitfinex coldwallet)  Wink
1203  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-29] SegWit's Slow Rollout: Why Bitcoin's Capacity Hasn't Seen a Sudden on: September 02, 2017, 09:18:01 AM
...

It's not so worrying IMO, the user base will always have people that are smart enough to understand and explain the latest hard fork proposals, business > politics is equally important to the users, fortunately Grin

This really proves what a genius Satoshi Nakamoto was. He really designed a beautiful system with the right incentives. This ensures
that neither the miners, nor the developers can make decisions unequivocally (unless they want a minority chain / altcoin). Iīd even argue
that the long scaling debate has demonstrated how resiliant Bitcoin is to change, which is good news for all the people, who intend
to use Bitcoins as a store of value or even as their retirement fund.
1204  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of bitcoin debit cards on: September 02, 2017, 08:37:09 AM
Have you thought about adding Mona.co? I believe they released their app for Android, iOS a couple of days ago and you can order the card from there. You can't know if the service is good or not until it has more users (to see downtimes, support response time etc.) but overall, It looks very promising.

Why would I order a debit card from Monaco where I have to buy their token when I can order a better card from
a different provider without needing to buy a token? This seems more like one of these use cases where they
wanted to do an ICO at all costs without considering whether the use case requires an ICO at all.
1205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Classic: what's happening??? on: September 01, 2017, 04:18:15 PM
The probable reason is the announcement (or rather the opening of the registration) for the 1st annual
ETC Summit in Hong Kong later this year:

https://twitter.com/barrysilbert/status/903642802554368000

Besides, ETC could benefit hugely, if China or the US crack down on the ICO frenzy surrounding Ethereum which
could crash the ETH price completely.

edit:
https://twitter.com/barrysilbert/status/903615680142082048

Probably another reason, because less supply leads to a price increase. Similar stuff happened with the BTC block reward halving  Wink
1206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum: Good alt or stay away? on: September 01, 2017, 03:31:02 PM
Ethereum is good altcoin for long term holding and good for trading too, if you can't doing trade, so you can make good profit by holding it.
I have hold ETH for few month and now, i make very good profits Cool
Indeed, Ethereum and ICO market will grow many much in future. We also see ICO market become to hot trend of investor on cryptocurrency market in recent. If ICO market can become to famous, Ethereum price will increase because many people need Ethereum for buy ICO token.

What happens to Ethereum when the SEC cracks down on ICOs or heavily regulates them?
What happens to Ethereum when the Chinese government cracks down on ICOs (as they already have announced)?
What happens to Ethereum if a scenario like the DAO happens again and Ethereum splits into two projects again?
...

I wouldnīt be so sure that the ICO market can prosper, if the major governments in the world finally act on this.

1207  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-01] F2Pool Reneges: Bitcoin Pool Pulls Segwit2x Support Over Hard Fork on: September 01, 2017, 03:15:02 PM
I reckon this is only the beginning. We may see more mining pools and miners pulling out from their support of the New York Agreement. To put it candidly, what gain does another hard fork present and is the risk worth the reward?

More transaction capacity per block. The real question is not, if a hard fork is worth the reward, but rather, which
chain gets the desired BTC ticker symbol at the exchanges.

Your fear of hard forks is unsubstantiated in my opinion, because smaller coins like Monero hard fork all the time
and it works fine, if the majority of the hashrate supports the forked chain.
1208  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of bitcoin debit cards on: September 01, 2017, 03:05:37 PM
Well, all the MyChoice cards are dead now.
https://themerkle.com/xapo-and-shakepay-to-suspend-cryptocurrency-debit-card-services-outside-the-eu-soon/

If you're interested looking for an alternative, WageCan is one of the remains that could still ship cards to outside of Europe.
Use me referral code https://wagecan.com/s/7NNcu6J6 to get 20% off.

Those are our ratings on https://www.cryptocompare.com/wallets/wagecan-usd-card/ and https://www.trustpilot.com/review/wagecan.com.
Feel free to ask me if you have any concerns.

Your post is misleading. The debit cards are still available in most European countries and therefore are definitely not dead. The only users negatively
affected by this are the users, who are located outside of Europe  Wink
For these people WageCan could theoretically be an alternative.

1209  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-30] How Bitcoin Fees Work and Why They’ve Been So High on: September 01, 2017, 02:58:49 PM
Seconded on ultra-cheap fees.  Have a look at this transaction that I sent last week:

https://blockchain.info/tx/fefae7ed63cb5171f11ba32c82d1d68f313b8e6da34578eb478be145c82bde6a

It took the better part of 5 days to clear, but it only cost me a nickel (960 satoshis (5/byte), to be precise).

Wow, that is even more impressive!
I think the problem is that new users of Bitcoin may not be aware of the benefits in terms of fees that
you get if you make a transaction with only 1-2 inputs (and have some patience to wait for confirmations).
Maybe it would be smart to include some kind of hint towards this in the more popular bitcoin wallets in
order to educate new users.

1210  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: September 01, 2017, 02:47:22 PM
Has anybody an idea why bfxdata.com shows more than 163 million $ as the total sum of margin funding
while bitfinex.com/stats shows "only" 159 million $?
I had the impression that bfxdata was pretty reliable as a source of Bitfinex related information in the past.

By the way, the increase in margin funding during the current bullrun looks really impressive if you
compare it with historical margin funding levels of 1-2 years ago  Grin

1211  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-29] Dark web finds bitcoin increasingly more of a problem than a help on: August 31, 2017, 03:46:25 PM
...
Don't forget that criminals using deep web don't use their local IP,they use Tor browser which makes them totally anonymous by having a strong proxy system and features like disabling Java/malicious ads/files/cookies/Html5 etc...
In other words if criminals use mixing services even if the government seize the servers they won't be able to track the criminal if he used Tor browser to use the mixer service.

...

You are aware that the TOR browser may not be as anonymous as you think? There are rumours and reports that several intelligence services over the world
(e.g. the CIA) are operating a non-negligible percentage of the entry nodes of the TOR network. By doing this they can identify the
real IP address of a certain percentage of TOR users.

Of course TOR is still more secure than regular browsers, but 100 % anonymity isnīt possible with TOR either!

1212  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-29] It Looks Like New Bitcoin Millionaires Are Avoiding the IRS on: August 31, 2017, 03:37:11 PM
'The IRS figures hundreds of thousands of American residents did not report income from sales or exchanges of cryptocurrency'

Obviously, if bitcoiners in US have to pay big amount of taxes, they will try to find some way to avoid it.
Pay 15% for hold bitcoin in long term and people have to pay 25%-35% for short term which is most likely as trading activities.
Bitcoin surges over 400% within 8 months is incredible achievement, and Uncle Sam wants big pieces of cake from everyone who involved in crypto-world. Better to hold bitcoin for long term or exchange it outside the country, send some amount of bitcoin to other exchanges and withdraw to another fiat currency Grin

If you donīt have a job in the US you can cash out 38000 $ worth of BTC per year without paying a single
$ in taxes. If you are content with a modest lifestyle, this amount could actually be enough to live off Wink

Besides, you could always use a debit card that can be funded using BTC and pay at a merchant
directly. If you pay for clothes, groceries and so on using a debit card like this, the 38000 $ could
be sufficient to pay for the remaining costs like rent.

1213  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-30] How Bitcoin Fees Work and Why They’ve Been So High on: August 31, 2017, 03:31:34 PM
Fees have been extraordinarily high this past week, and this article aims to clear up misconceptions and help users make smarter decisions in setting the right fees for their transactions. $3 fee for a $5 transaction? With the recent Bitcoin rally up into the mid $4,000’s there has been a huge influx of users that really don’t understand how Bitcoin works under the hood.

More: http://www.btcnewsweb.com/story/3143/how-bitcoin-fees-work-and-why-theyve-been-so-high/

If you donīt care about a fast confirmation you can still get away with very cheap fees.
If you have few inputs to your transaction and you are fine with waiting 12-24 hours, it is still
very easy to send a transaction with sub 1$ fees.

A few days ago I sent a transaction with a single input and attached a ~0.26 $ fee. It confirmed
after rougly 14 hours.
1214  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitwala - Pay Your Bills With Bitcoin in Europe on: August 31, 2017, 08:43:18 AM

You should really check your code behind in calculating the fee it is very strange how it behaves.

Thanks Robert

I donīt think that this strange behavior is happening on Bitwalaīs end.
You should rather direct your feedback to Bitpay.

1215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waves hold for longterm Good or Not? on: August 29, 2017, 03:34:22 PM
What brings you to this satement? Was there any official announcement that Waves is expanding to Chinese crypto market? At the moment Waves is very popular in Europe and Russia. The developers are mainly from Russia, so they have already gotten some good cooperations like the Burger King news some days ago, the cooperation with Gazprombank and others. If China follows then it would definetly push the price in my humble opinion and makes Waves a mid and long term investment.

Sure diversify. Waves is a good alt to hold till 2019.

And now, open soon for China, great Cheesy

Why do you think that projects like Whoppercoin by Burger King that are build on the Waves platform will increase the price
of the underlying asset? These news may be good on the surface like the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance for Ethereum, but they are actually
quite misleading, because they donīt really support a price increase of the currency and rather simply use the platform or technology.

The only way that I see Waves doing well is if the crypto market in general is doing well (a rising tide
lifts all boats  Grin ).
1216  Economy / Services / Re: [FREE] Speed up BTC unconfirmed transaction to confirmed on: August 29, 2017, 03:23:59 PM
Iīm curious why you are offering this service. Is it pure altruism? Is it
some kind of marketing campaign to improve the image of AntPool?
Is it a promotional offer before you start charging a fee for your service?

If you donīt want to answer that publicly, Iīd be content with a personal message.

Thank you HumbertDice!
1217  Economy / Gambling / Re: ◥◤ NitrogenSports ◢ 2017 US OPEN 🎾 AUG 28 - SEPT 10 ◣ The Future of Betting ◥◤ on: August 29, 2017, 03:03:01 PM
I have a question regarding the Nitrogensports poker offer. The Loyalty program awards
Nitros for the amount of rake you produce at the poker tables.
Do the earned Nitros expire after some period of time or can you accumulate them in order
to save up for the bigger rewards without having to worry about losing them?
I couldnīt find this information in the rules section or your terms of service.

Thank you for your help!

Besides, the poker site stills shows the old rake table and not the current rake table.
You should really update this, because the rake has been lowered and as a business
it doesnīt make any sense to display higher prices than you actually charge  Wink
1218  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: BTC.COM Hold my BTCs - Ask to pay higher than my actual balance on: August 28, 2017, 09:59:47 AM
...
moral of the story: DON'T accept small/dust sized payments... anything less than 0.001 is asking for trouble...

I think this is one of the reasons why altcoins have gained in popularity in the last year.
Microtransactions using Bitcoin have become unfeasible since roughly a year due
to the full blocks and the rise in transaction fees.

Several use cases like tip-bots, faucets, micropayments or small donations nowadays can
only be realized using coins with lower transaction fees.
1219  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bittrex - Next generation exchange (btc/ltc/eac/ppc/rdd/ftc/and more) on: August 27, 2017, 03:49:26 PM
Hi guys,

what shall I use best to enable 2FA when I donīt have an phone to put Google Auth. on?

Here https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000198612-Troubleshooting-Two-Factor-Authentication-2FA-
they suggest: "a program like winauth/authy" ...

What are your exeriences/advice what to use best?

Kind regards
Stefan

The problem with your plan of action is, that in the case your computer is compromised your
2FA software is compromised as well. This kind of defeats the purpose of Two-Factor-Authentification.
Therefore I would strongly advise you to acquire a cheap, used, smartphone, which you use
exclusively for 2FA.

If you decide to ignore my warning, you can probably use one of the available apps like Google 2FA or
FreeOTP (https://freeotp.github.io/) using an Android Emulator for Windows.
Basically any program that supports HOTP and TOTP should do the trick.

You could also use the following service, which offers a website based 2FA solution:
http://gauth.apps.gbraad.nl/

However, I have never used this site before and therefore canīt make a comment on the trustworthiness
of this particular website.

1220  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: August 27, 2017, 03:39:53 PM
Im glad they reduced the amounts of decimal points allowed for trades. If it were my choice i'd have them reduced it further, im not sure we even need a $0.01 to bitcoin anymore and maybe not even $0.1.  Just round it all off to dollar and let the bots squirm. Why should bots get favour vs actual real human trades, bots offer less overall value imo.

Kraken is earning money from fees and traders that use bots generate a ton of volume compared to a casual customer.
Therefore it is completely understandable that they have to take into account how a business decision will affect
the bots that operate on their platform.

In terms of value a single active bot is probably preferable to hundreds of casual small time traders for Kraken Smiley
