1001  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-27]Showtime websites secretly mined user CPU for cryptocurrency on: October 01, 2017, 11:16:02 AM
... So like others already said, these scripts would be simply considered malware and killed by adblocking plugins or even virus scanners.

Coinhive is already banned by several ad-block plugins.
The high CPU load during a visit to these websites is simply too noticeable (due to the
increased noise of the CPU fan).

The developers of Coinhive have therefore announced plans to
only allow the Monero miner if the user has signalled
his consent to mining by opting-in.

Nevertheless, the technology behind this is quite interesting.
1002  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of bitcoin debit cards on: October 01, 2017, 10:59:02 AM
...Their overhead costs must be enormous. Staff, IT, cards, logistics, security etc.

Are you sure about this? Most of these companies integrate solutions from other providers
(e.g. BitPay for top-ups) and just act as a white label for one of the dominating
card issuers.

I really think it is entirely possible to run a successful Bitcoin debit card provider with
a very small headcount.
1003  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 30, 2017, 08:16:21 PM
Is this rise purely down to hodling btc before OCT 1st due to the bitcoin gold fork?

We don't know the exact date of the bitcoin gold fork, yet, do we?

I thought that it was going to be in mid-to-late October?  Did I miss something?

I know it is quite difficult to keep up with the mucho bullshit that continues and whether we should be keeping track of one thing or another in order to profit from our HODLing (maybe there are various conspiracies to disrupt the HODLers by creating these mucho distractions?)

You´re welcome!  Wink

Hodl BTC on 10.25 get free BTG on 11.1

25th October seems to be the snapshot date.

However, I have my doubts that this hard fork will provide much value. I don´t see it
trading for an exchange rate that is comparable to Bitcoin Cash.

What are your guesses for the Bitcoin / Bitcoin Gold exchange rate? I´d be surprised
to see something higher than 5 mBTC = 1 BTG (Bitcoin Gold).

1004  Economy / Speculation / Re: nrd525 Market Tracker on: September 30, 2017, 08:11:01 PM
...
I watched a recent Tone Vays video and he, who is normally very bullish, was saying that the mempool is now very low and that it might have been spammed all this time by big blockers (or others) - and thus the fundamental of how many people use bitcoin is vastly over-stated...

I share the same sentiment.

Have you read this article regarding the spam attacks?
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/curious-case-bitcoins-moby-dick-spam-and-miners-confirmed-it/

Aside from the spam attack the lack of genuine growth in daily transactions
could also be explained by the 2017 bull market. Who wants to buy a good
with BTC when Bitcoin´s value is increasing all the time.
People, who used to buy something with their BTC from time to time simply started
to hold their coins (or at least a higher percentage of their stash) due to the price increase.
1005  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 30, 2017, 07:59:09 PM
...

this hodl philosophy will really hurt bitcoin one day. this could end in some kind of deflation spiral...

What if I told you that Bitcoin´s best use case was savings all the time?
Bitcoin is deflationary by design, which is even more extreme due to coins
that are lost forever (lost private keys, people that die with a stash of BTC
without anyone knowing about it...).

This increases scarcity, which is extremely valuable and necessary for BTC
to act as a store of value - something that most so called fiat currencies
are not!
1006  Economy / Exchanges / Re: New Bitcoin Debit Cards on: September 30, 2017, 07:52:41 PM
Ok... let me start somewhere about this.

I have my new bitcoin (contactless) mastercard and they are issued by a company in the UK called PSI Pay Ltd. They work perfectly (ATMs, stores, merchants etc) and this gives me the confidence to use the cards for all my bitcoin to fiat transactions. Wave Crest was very good and reputationally reliable. It's a pain to have to say bye to this MyChoice visa card.

I...

I´m not sure what to think of the link you posted.

However, I wouldn´t worry about PSI Pay Ltd. According to the Ecopayz homepage (ecopayz.com) they are
a brand of PSI Pay:
Quote
ecoPayz is a brand name of PSI-Pay Ltd.

PSI-Pay Ltd is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 (FCA Reference Number 900011) for the issuing of electronic money, and facilitates its' services across the European Economic Area (EEA).

If you haven´t heard of Ecopayz, it´s the 3rd biggest online wallet in Europe for online gambling
(after the brands Skrill and Neteller, which are owned by Paysafe Group). Therefore
I have huge doubts that PSI Pay is indeed a scam.

Nevertheless, I wouldn´t rule out that some of the people involved in running PSI Pay have been
involved in shady business dealings before.
1007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Why invest in Litecoin on: September 30, 2017, 07:28:28 PM
The main reason i invest in ltc because cheap price as it's today. Secondly, ltc i believe that altcoin will continue to exist in the future with bitcoin.

Litecoin´s main usage at the moment is being a testnet for
new Bitcoin improvements (e.g. Segwit launched on LTC
before it launched on BTC).

If you agree with me on the above statement, it is doubtful
that LTC has huge upside potential. It can be used as a quasi
testnet for technological improvements even if LTC is trading
in the single digits. If I´m right there is really no case for a valuation
of several hundred dollars per LTC.
1008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The next x10 coins for 2018 on: September 30, 2017, 07:24:53 PM
x10 could be on start when hit on exchange for Pally Token, very small max cap, very good team and advisors.

I have huge doubts that JPMorgan and Amazon are actually
involved with this project.

This seems really shady to me and I strongly advise everyone
to not invest in this project.

Please prove me wrong and show me proof that these companies
are actually involved in Pally.

During a quick Google search I have been unable to find any connection
between these alleged advisors and the Pally ICO.

1009  Economy / Gambling / Re: looks like bitkong site is secretly mining on users machine - (Browsermining) !! on: September 30, 2017, 10:45:48 AM
looks like bitkong site is secretly mining on users machine - (Browsermining) !!

have anyone observed it ? bitkong webpage is consuming 90% of CPU usage, Not sure which crypto but I guess probably monero

Coinhive (https://coinhive.com) makes it really easy to integrate mining into your webpage, without notifying the user.
The anonymous nature of Monero makes this even more attractive for website owners or
people who gained access to the source code of a website in a malicious way.

I fear that we will see a ton of similar incidents in the future.

1010  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Great list of trading bots | Up to date 9/10/2017 | Automate your profit! on: September 30, 2017, 10:29:29 AM
Is any of the available trading bots open-source?

ViaBTC recently released a whole exchange script as open-source. Therefore
I´m optimistic that a trading bot, which obviously is less advanced as a script than
an exchange, will be available as well.

Keep up the good work!
1011  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-29] IMF chief tells central bankers: Ignore Bitcoin at your peril on: September 30, 2017, 09:43:28 AM
LONDON — Christine Lagarde, the head of the International Monetary Fund, has a message for the world’s central bankers: Don’t be Luddites.

Addressing a Bank of England conference, Lagarde conceded that digital currencies, such as Bitcoin, don’t currently pose a major threat to the status quo, as they are “too volatile, too risky, too energy-intensive.” Some have also been hacked, she noted.

...

Too energy-intensive? Someone should tell Lagarde how much energy is wasted on the printing, processing
and distribution of fiat money. Whole industries (e.g. cash transport) are wasting massive amounts
of capital and energy just to keep the ATM networks running.

Besides, advances in renewable energy will lead to the point where the energy consumption
of the BTC network isn´t problematic anymore.

1012  Economy / Gambling / Re: Nitrogen Sports ◢ 🆕 MIN BETS NOW AT 0.0001 BTC! 🆕 ◣ The Future of Betting on: September 30, 2017, 09:20:35 AM
Let´s say, I make a parlay where I win every bet except one.
Therefore I qualify for one (or even several) of the parlay jackpot
leaderboards.

Is my betslip added immediately to the parlay jackpot leaderboard after
all games are graded? Is this done manually and can take some time?

1013  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetKing.io Relaunched! NFL betting. BTC, ETH, LTC DICE on: September 30, 2017, 09:11:37 AM
Given that the tokens don't look good to receive a proper dividend: how to sell them? Any exchange on the horizon?

Thanks

Giulio

You can currently only sell them to other Betking users.

The transfer is possible by using the "tip" feature of
the Betking Chat. Make sure to use an escrow in order
to prevent getting scammed.

1014  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Japan’s Regulators Are Putting Bitcoin Exchanges Under Heavy Surveillance on: September 29, 2017, 12:12:44 PM
...We have Central Bank system for money supply now. It was introduced in 1600 in Amsterdam i think. So its not something that have being forever.

I think fractional reserve banking was originally invented by a bank that was based
in Amsterdam. But the central banking system was heavily influenced
by the ideas that were introduced by the "Amsterdamsche Wisselbank".

However, the first real Central Bank was the "Sveriges Riksbank" (Bank of Sweden).

Basically, the Dutch laid the foundation and pionereed the concepts while the clever Swedes were the first
to actually found a real central bank.

1015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I have 250 ETH, Hold or SELL? on: September 29, 2017, 12:07:17 PM
You can keep half and sell half to buy some potential altcoin like Ark, Xrp, Pay, TKn, ....
Eth is stable and will not help you increase your account much, keeping fit long term!

ETH is only "stable" as long as the current ICO frenzy lasts.
As soon as people realize that they invested in scam projects or the dumb money
stops flowing in the ICO bubble will burst.

When this happens Ethereum´s only real use case will be gone, which will
crash the price.

Recommending ETH as a stable coin is therefore a ridiculous proposition -
especially if you look at a yearly chart and see that it has already multiplied it´s value
this year and is probably overvalued.
1016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will Bitcoin death by technical reason? on: September 29, 2017, 12:03:27 PM
I have one question Smiley

Now I am downloading bitcoin core wallet and it take a lot time. Specially last year..
If transaction numbers will increase so much in future that for sync of one hour transactions we will need more then hour, the chain will not work...

Is it true by technical aspect?

You can always use a lite wallet instead of running a full Bitcoin Core Wallet.
This is basically a trade-off between convenience and security.

Another method to decrease the sync time of Bitcoin Core is using
a bootstrap file (make sure that you get this only from a source that
you really trust!).
1017  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Zug bank offers to open accounts for BTC miners? on: September 28, 2017, 02:45:51 PM
...
Therefore, my questions are : Has anyone happened to know a crypto-friendly bank? and whether anyone from Switzerland has experienced such practices already?
Thank you!

Have you heard of Falcon bank?

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-swiss-banks-falcon-bitcoin/swiss-private-bank-falcon-introduces-bitcoin-asset-management-idUSKBN19X28L

Quote
Wealthy clients of Swiss private bank Falcon will be able to store and trade bitcoins via their cash holdings with the bank from Wednesday, a move that signals the traction the virtual currency is gaining even in slow-changing asset management.

The group’s new blockchain asset management service is being offered in partnership with cryptocurrency broker Bitcoin Suisse.

“We are proud to be the first-mover in the Swiss private banking area to provide blockchain asset management for our clients,” Arthur Vayloyan, Falcon’s global head of products and services, said in a statement.

They allow their clients to store wealth in cryptocurrencies since this year.
However, I think they are the first bank in Switzerland to offer a service like this and so far
no other bank has adopted a similar attitude towards cryptos.

1018  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken deposit process...so disapointed on: September 28, 2017, 02:37:36 PM
Just want to share my first experience with buying crypto
After opening an account on kraken, i follow the verification process.
Took some days to validate, and be able to make some deposit by bank transfer after that.
I have done the transfer to the japanese bank account indicate, but it seems they didn't receive the full "reference name of transaction"
It's been 2 weeks now the transfer is done, money out from my account (4,5k) and support team told me they have to verify with one the developpers agreed to validate the transaction.
...

Based on your post I assume that you reside in Japan.
Have you tried using one of the local Japanese Bitcoin exchanges to buy BTC?

Bitflyer and the other exchanges from your country have enough volume that
you should be able to buy casual amounts without any problems.
If you send 4.5k you will have no problem getting your order filled at Bitflyer.

1019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why is Kraken the only exchange with a USDT/fiat trading pair? on: September 28, 2017, 10:30:41 AM
possibly because it is very weird to even have that kind of market!

USDT is unofficially supposed to be worth 1 USD. in other words having a market to trade and assume there is fluctuations is against the very nature of this coin since technically speaking it should not move from 1 USD at all.

also adding such market can also cause fluctuations.

Well, Kraken wasn´t deterred by these concerns  Wink

I agree that fluctuations are against the very nature of this coin. However, fluctuations do happen
like when BTC is going to the moon again everyone sells their USDT in order to buy BTC, which
causes the Tether exchange rate to drop below 1 $ (because it doesn´t really matter
if you lose a fraction of your USDT value when you are making big profits buy buying into
a BTC bull run anyway).

1020  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why is Kraken the only exchange with a USDT/fiat trading pair? on: September 28, 2017, 10:13:16 AM
I don't know but it does not like good at all usdt/usd and it does not matter much , turn your usdt to a coin and sell it for usd for example if you use coinbase.

You misunderstood my intention.

I know how it is possible to get rid of USDT. However, I´m not interested in selling my USDT, I trade the fluctuations
at Kraken (it hovers around the 1:1 peg depending on demand for USDT and BTC price development).

I need more exchanges like Kraken that allow me to trade a USDT/USD trading pair. Or even
a USDT/EUR trading pair would be a nice addition.
