it wouldn't matter if the concept is good the presentation and development is simply atrocious ..even for this place where scams coins are legendary LOL

*Sigh*  Yeah ... well.  XCurrency fell from like #15 on the altcoin list to #25 in response to the developers moving on to a new project.

some people were smart - rumor has it a whale is pressuring Dan (lead dev) to pump the coin as much as possible so he can unload.  got a feeling that was what the blocknet was about and the drop from 15 -> 25 was the whale unloading after there was some buy pressure.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 29, 2014, 02:15:36 PM
Smooth I would like to ask you a few questions about the team.  I keep hearing you allude to "If there isn't enough funding for the team eventually we will move on."  And I have a few questions on that.

1.  How interested / motivated / excited is the team about this project?  I mean are people just right on the verge of "moving on"?  Or is there still excitement on continuing progress on the project?

2.  What do we need funding for if the team is working on this in their free time?  I want to be clear - I think you guys should be 100% compensated for your time (who would want to have a US President doing it for free?)  But the reality is you guys are paying out from what I hear more than you are receiving in.

My question is more about what is your gut level feeling about future expenses not related to compensating the core team for the work they are putting in on their free time?

3.  What can we do to keep the core team motivated besides donating?  I've sent my 5% in and about to bump up to 10%.  If all the whales did this - funding wouldn't be an issue.  But I don't expect funding to ever be resolved under the current donation approach.

I am new to LTCgear, is this more profitable than Genesis Mining?

If so, when can I buy actual farmshares / asic shares?

Thanks in advance

Yes it is better.  Look at my link.

160Mhs for $885 if you use anniversary1yr at checkout.

I might be willing to offload some of my shares.

Without privacy there is no democracy nor freedom. Simple as that.

Democracy & freedom are actually at odds with each other on a certain level.  I *think* transparency lends itself to democracy more than freedom in allowing the masses to take away the rights of the individual.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: October 27, 2014, 02:29:37 PM
Are there any serious contenders for decentralized anonymous transactions besides the other Cryptonotes?
Not yet. Zerocash maybe in the future, but we will have to see how that is received once it exists. Also, a Cryptonote-like BTC side chain might exist someday.

Agree. Apart from Zerocash, nothing.
All others coins named "anonymous" are nothing more than a copy of Bitcoin with a mixer.
You can use the mixer directly with Bitcoin : https://bitmixer.io/

is it just us circlejerking? I can hardly understand why this is not more widely accepted.

this is in my opinion the only really existing niche - all other things can probably be done with bitcoin in the future.

also that sidechains can offer privacy is only half true - you still have to send them to the sidechain and also have to get them out of the chain.

it's worth taking into account that all of the alts that are privacy centered have taken a massive beating lately (dark, bbr, btcd, etc).

Still think the coin emission is going to hurt more than most people think - but while it's low it's possible to accumulate.  IF this turns out to be a legitimate altcoin with litecoin market cap then you're looking at $20 per coin.  I don't think it's going to happen overnight but I give it a 1 in 3 chance of happening eventually if someone else doesn't blow the anon PoW market away with a completely new coin.

total traded at 0.002 or below was 228113.51562283

That's actually pretty impressive that it's that few ...
It's actually a large part of the trade volume. Keep in mind that there were much less moneros in circulation back then. Total moneros traded was 312070.32733411, thus prices of 0.002 or lower represents 73% of all trades that ever occurred on cryptonote.exchange

That's still a pretty microscopic comparison of % of existing Monero's traded below .002.  At least compared to bitcoin or litecoin & their current price.  That's about 5% of total current supply that was traded for below .002 (before the last few days).

Wow Wtf, this is disappointing. This coin probably interest(ed) a lot of people. Dev can you PLEASE do something to this coin to make it popular.

I mined a few weeks after launch, thought it was going somewhere..in another 1 month like this itll be completely dead. PLEASE DO SOMETHING I  BEG OF YOU

Dude like what?  You do something ... lol o.0

How bit would the bit coin blockchain be under the cryptonite implementation?
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 26, 2014, 03:51:01 PM
One bright side I see to the XMR price slide for 400 to 200 is that if this lasts for a year it might be a great talking point when the coin is accused of an instamine.

Understanding that early adopters actually lost a lot to mid term adopters due to high inflation might help with the coin release schedule PR issue in a few years if Cryptonote is still around.

What I'd give for a coin that just released a set number of coins per year period, had free transaction fees, and a constantly improving feature set that included anonymity.   I feel like hoping the price goes up and being involved early makes me a participant in a ponzi scheme ... even with bitcoin due to the release schedule.

A set number of coins a year would drive price and scarcity based on adoption and investment in exactly the same way mining does.  Vs shrinking supply
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: October 24, 2014, 07:44:43 PM
To be fair it's not like rpietila is the one who's going to be coding any databases or GUIs. I think mass adoption projects like this are good. If his game gets popular it could mean big things for XMR and crypto in general.

Yes, get real dudes. Anything that pushes Monero further, pushes Monero further, and is so precious in this stage of the coin.

Couldn't resist ...

634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: XCurrency (XC) BlockNet community thread on: October 24, 2014, 06:54:41 PM
It is funny to see the XC PR machine abuse terms associated with BTC like decentralized, trustless etc etc and try to apply to this garbage bullshit scamcoin called XC. From Day 1 these clowns are all about trying to be me-too about everything and anything in crypto.

This coin is mined-out piece of shit. There is nothing more centralized than trying to sell mined out piece of shit and going door to door like the witnesses. You have a garbage closed source system and there is nothing trustless about it, even if you get it reviewed from any external source. CVEs come into play in 20-30 year code bases, only no one will even bother with this piece of crap because it doesn't deserve any.

This isn't what satoshi had envisioned. You will see it once you understand that getting your own heads out of your assess is a pre-requirement to understand these things. The "developer" of this scam coin hires off beat unknown coders to develop crap that can be sold to noobs who then make a fool out of themselves with their retardation in the self moderated thread. He had to fucking donate to loljosh to even launch the scam for crying out. If you believed them there were ASICs and FPGAs because of which they had to shut down PoW. Yah Satoshi envisioned all this  Roll Eyes Bunch of scammy people associated behind the scenes with this as well as up front who will go underground in the coming days once the final tricks are pulled off from this latest scam and the idiot bagholders are what the rest of BTCTalk will have to endure listening to sorry sob stories.

Web 3.0? Decentralized? Trustless? BlockNET 2500 BTC IPO? Content serving from nodes? Code review pump and dumps? These clowns are all over the place. It is amazing to me that a crap coin like this is valued at 70K. Just dump it out and get it over.

Also why is Busoni all of a sudden allowing this? His lawyers are suddenly fine with this crap given they did the right thing by not allowing SuperNET ICO?

Tell us how you really feel :p

My understanding was that it was not going to be on ploniex
635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: XCurrency (XC) BlockNet community thread on: October 24, 2014, 06:21:05 PM
I do agree with you that untracability is important.

This article describes ring signatures & explains the reason for bloat - https://cryptonote.org/inside.php

My understanding is that the blockchain will be between 3 & 6 times bigger with ring signatures.  But it doesn't rely on client side mixing but the protocol itself.

My understanding about XC (correct me if I'm wrong) and Darkcoin both are that they have mixers (Darkcoin masternodes \ XC every node).  Not all of the coins are mixed - only the coins that you specify need to be mixed are mixed with other coins that are specify that they need to be mixed.  Is this the case with XC?
636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: XCurrency (XC) BlockNet community thread on: October 24, 2014, 04:59:42 PM

What about the CryptoNote ring signature tech that's been verified by cryptographers?

I wasn't aware of it being broken, do you have a link?

Im looking more into this. Does XC implement this tech?

This tech actually seems pretty promising, and I see many coins (with lower caps than XC) use it.

No.  XC does not use it.  My understanding is that CryptoNote is the only protocol that uses ring signatures (Monero, Boolberry, Darknote, Bytecoin).  Which is a completely separate codebase from bitcion & it's still fairly rough.

It also creates blockchain bloat (which XC has sworn to avoid).
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mintpal / Moolah Scam - 5,200 BTC Now Missing!!! - Report Missing Funds on: October 24, 2014, 04:50:29 PM
This entire thing is beyond ludicrous.  I kinda sorta got in the scene about the MtGox collapse time.  Mintpal I used and for a long while people were telling cryptsy movers to move to mintpal.  I paid enough attention to the Moolah sell that I probably would've pulled my funds off if I'd had any there.

But this is just beyond the veil of horrible for anybody wanting to hold crypto.  A decentralized exchange and easy multi sig safety nets for storing coins locally really needs to happen.

I'm sorry for your losses.
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: October 24, 2014, 04:44:55 PM
Again.. Cryptographers of THEIR choice. Cloak had their anon 'verified' as well (I made a lot off Cloak, because I knew when to sell).

This was said about the cryptonote coins.  I'm curious as to if who verified the provable anonymity of cryptonote is public information..  I've heard several statements that the Monero team paid people for independent verification who were qualified but never seen any names.

I respect your position of wanting prove first but its has no ground for confrontation on the ethics of XCs team.

I feel it is misleading to state that the coin is better than anything else out there when it's not open sourced for the community to review.  The fact that it's "the best" is normally stated in a matter of fact way by the marketing team and Dan.

I've been following the XC project (you probably know why) and the issue of pumping other altcoins and now the SuperNET knockoff to raise more money / increase buying pressure so whales can offload (if you view events thru a cynical perspective instead of optimistic one).  Even IF I didn't have a problem with it being closed sourced before - would make me seriously question the integrity of the team who was promising me a technology that couldn't be verified for my investment.

As long as those putting their money into it fully trust both the judgement of the development team (that they can actually KNOW that their solution is the best out there like they claim) and the integrity.  Then by all means put money into it.  But closed source requires trust in the team - not the code itself having been reviewed by the entire community.  And those are two very different animals.

In my mind to promise something like the SuperNET before delivering open source of the actual full project is terrible.  Label it FUD, or pre-disposition, or whatever you'd like.

it requires trust now. but the mixer works and there is a great graphical blockexplorer tool from kimmyf that visualises the tx for you to see.

Thank you for your honesty on this.  This is (one) of my biggest problems with XC.  It's sold as the best at anonymous transactions without opensource without explaining that you really need to take the devs word that it is the best anonymity solution.
