So CoinHoarder says that he thinks bcx is maybeprobably working with ArtForz ...  I looked at history and this is one of the first posts i saw

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63365.msg742437#msg742437

i do quote

Quote
Not to mention I said from the start that CPU coins are a fucking stupid idea because even a tiny botnet can trivially 51% em.

I found this interesting (troll aside) - I verified the ArtFonz quote.  I really have no idea how large botnets get or what their availability for sale are.  Or if they would be ideal for an attack (maxing out CPU is liable to hint/reveal malware where a DDOS would not)

http://blogs.wsj.com/tech-europe/2012/11/05/where-to-rent-a-botnet-for-2-an-hour-or-buy-one-for-700/

Edit:  This was another interesting article.  I know this borders on fear mongering.  I'd just like to understand what's at the root of BCX's power.  I honestly don't like the feeling that a coin like XMR may be at his mercy

I disagree with the self moderated thread.  Several other coins are specifically NOT open to negative discussions and become a blind group circlejerk.

While I have no fear of that happening to XMR (at least to the extent I've seen in other places) I feel leaving the main chat thread unmoderated speaks volumes about it's legitimacy.
803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero FUD/Negativity Thread (Honest Discourse) on: September 22, 2014, 02:56:02 AM
but the risk is much greater than what most people are giving it credit for.

Nice FUD..at least on topic for the thread for once!

the silver lining on this cloud is that as far as I'm concerned any PoW coin worth anything has to eventually go thru bcx.  He will only likely do this once with any credibility.  and the coin will be stronger on the other side.

i like the 72 hour deadline for something to happen more than the vague "I could kill it but have no interest in it" - at least there is some resolve and deadlines associated with this threat.

Great, I just hope you dont buy back at loss.

I likely will.  but the risk is much greater than what most people are giving it credit for.

at least right now

7 - Blockchain bloat

Nobody cares except the trolls.

I care.  And I have money in it.  I love the way shills just sluff concerns off as "only things the trolls care about".  Let me explain why I care.  If a bitcoin codebase - say dark comes along and impliments ring signatures.  Then the cost per transaction is much less as the cost for storage is much less.  As the cost to store all of the transactions are less.

Simply no. If another blockchain implements ring signatures it will then have a bigger blockchain and the same cost per transaction.

I'm going to come back to this thread when I have time because I think it is quality and I also like the aminorex's idea of a supporter writing a FUD list. For now just that above correction.

Awesome - I'll modify the OP.  I admit I don't have a full understanding.  I will buy back in after BCX's deadline.  Until then ... I'm solo mining.
806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero FUD/Negativity Thread (Honest Discourse) on: September 21, 2014, 11:31:38 PM
OMG !!!
some random guy on the internet said to sell cheap Monero

haha yup.  pretty much the extent of the proof.  I'm saving that gif...
807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero FUD/Negativity Thread (Honest Discourse) on: September 21, 2014, 10:17:00 PM
I'm not going to post this as a main thread.  But I was just sent a message with a pastebin link.  Possibly after somebody read this.

http://pastebin.com/prBGYR37

I have NO IDEA if this is legit or not.  It's just ... what it is (created today, from a new account, etc)
808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero FUD/Negativity Thread (Honest Discourse) on: September 21, 2014, 10:09:49 PM
I wish i would make $200 a day.

Do you have a pool?  I'd be interested in the expenses ... I would imagine for the top ones it's at least half of the daily intake.
809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero FUD/Negativity Thread (Honest Discourse) on: September 21, 2014, 10:03:26 PM
In light of BCX's 72 hour ultimatum and this thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=791366.0 for whatever it's worth.  I'm exiting XMR for the next few days.

I don't think he found some secret exploit.  I think he's just flexing his muscles and petting his ego.

(I know no one here cares what I think.  But if pool owners are making $200 a day for 25% of the Monero hashrate.  Simple economics make this a horrible bet if BCX is properly motivated.)

edit:  do we know who owns the top 3 pools?  buying a pool might be cheaper than hashrate if the owner is willing to be bought off ...

Was this ever answered?

Do the math, dude.

yeah - i did.  On darkcoin, litecoin, bitshares, peercoin, dogecoin, nxt ...

I did the math.  You are the one that has a problem with it apparently.
812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinEXpress - self made legend? on: September 21, 2014, 06:13:28 PM
Wow - old devs coming out of the woodwork to tell people BCX is real.

This is soooo dejavu.  Still betting on Monero but prices need to be half of what they are now ...
813  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 21, 2014, 06:02:40 PM
Why don't we have a proper forum on our own yet? Devs could you please open one asap?

It really shouldn't be that half of all threads in the section are about Monero, I believe this is causing great damage to the overall users' perception of the coin.

The number of threads is far less than a fair share based on market cap.  There is no grounds for this complaint.  It is a complaint which originated with trolls who proceeded to create many vapid threads with XMR or Monero in the title.

*Looks at litecoin market cap*

Whatever dude - what you're smoking must be good.
814  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 21, 2014, 02:03:47 AM
Im LOL at all you soon to be bagholders.. Dont you get it? The coin code is flawed. No fighting facts here. If I were you guys I'd be selling all my xmr and hopping into safe bets like btc and stealthcoin.

Its, as simple as that.

Ok.  Thank you for your warning.  Come back in three days and say "I told you so" Smiley
815  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 21, 2014, 01:42:59 AM
don't take my word.  look at bcx post history.  to me it says he is not going to hit xmr.  if otherwise i would like evidence.

What makes you think the Polo trollbox thing was fake.  Man, I was there.  Seemed legit. I copy/pasted the end of the conversation on page 5 of this thread.

Edit: this is also reposted in post 192 on the page right before this if you want to find it.

What I don't get is why he deleted his identity confirmation on BCT
816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 21, 2014, 01:19:57 AM

XC lol.  They have to get so depressed.  No miners dumping, releasing all of the tech - they've emptied their guns on features, spent their money on press releases.  And the price just slowly falls  Roll Eyes
817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 21, 2014, 01:10:42 AM
So whats the deal? My tech adviser tells me monero is now a dead coin. Slowly dying while all you guys go down with the ship...

Is it true?

you'll know in a few days ...
818  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 21, 2014, 12:54:44 AM
how can i look at what the hashrate is?  I'm curious as to what kind of resources bcx will need to get some significant hash....
819  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 20, 2014, 11:00:47 PM
i hope BCX is aware that he has just announced intent to commit a u.s. felony.  it would behoove him to avoid u.s. customs henceforth, in particular, if there is an xmr attack over the next week or two.

BCX: please confirm this with your legal counsel.

not to be ... uh.  how will they know it's him?

do we want to trust a coin that relies on people "not committing crimes" for security?
820  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 20, 2014, 10:28:05 PM
Well, I may just fire up some XMR miners this weekend.
Just to make it cost BCX a bit more to try this.
So long as he doesn't go off early, this can make it more expensive.
He's not the only one that can light up a datacenter.

No he most certainly isn't.

Careful you don't force his hand and eliminate our 72 hour window to fix this.
