881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can cryptocurrency make real money disappear? on: October 11, 2017, 08:18:50 PM
Cryptocurrency will only make the real money appear.

What are the chances of living in a world with no actual money ?  Shocked

Near zero, Bitcoin is here to stay.
882  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: October fork and wallet questions on: October 11, 2017, 08:17:10 PM
What do you think about keeping the coins in Bittrex? Is it safe or should I go download wallets on my pc?

Nothing other then your own wallet is safe, remember that. You should always download your own wallet, there is no reason not to. It completely misses the whole point of Bitcoin if you don't have a local wallet, you gain to benefit from Bitcoin's security nor privacy.

If you really need to trade on these centralized exchanges, then fine, do the trade and get your funds out. These exchanges were hacked multiple times and they will get hacked again, it is just a matter of time.
883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file loaded with old unconfirmed transaction on: October 11, 2017, 08:12:39 PM
Transactions are kept in a wallet file along with the private keys for addresses. Your wallet.dat simply stored it for a very long time. As I assume you want the coins and want that transaction to go through, you could rebroadcast it and if the fee isn't high enough, use the CPFP method to get it confirmed.

You should go to Help->Debug Window->Console and type
Code:
gettransaction "<txid>"
, that should give you the hex that you can push to any online service like this one https://blockexplorer.com/tx/send.
884  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Questions about running a node on: October 11, 2017, 08:01:27 PM
Is it more secure to run linux as a second operating system for this purpose?

It is always more secure to run Linux then Windows. You should definitely upgrade to Linux as soon as you can. You can use a Virtual Machine if you really need some windows program, but you have open source alternatives for almost all software.

As I have been advised to use a virtual machine: If my local computer is affected by some type of virus, wouldn't the virtual machine also be vulnerable?

Achow101 gave a great response to almost all your questions, but I think he misunderstood what you asked here. You asked if infection of your local (I assume you mean, what is called a host) system would leave a virtual machine that is running on the system vulnerable. The answer is yes, absolutely. The protection from a Virtual Machine goes the other way around. If the VM is infected, your host could still be secure, if the VM software doesn't not contain any vulnerabilities.
885  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Nodes on: October 11, 2017, 07:52:44 PM
Anyone here understand how nodes work and the operations surrounding them? Just curious not sure if this is the right place to post or not.

Any specific question you have?
It is just about relaying a blockchain and unconfirmed transactions. That is pretty much their job.

887  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: making paper wallet to paper wallet transaction on: October 10, 2017, 10:27:40 PM
Never use online wallets. The easiest and safest way would be to install a wallet like Electrum or even better yet Bitcoin Core (you don't really need to sync it). You can download TailsOS and boot it from a USB, if you are concerned about your PC containing malware, as I heard that Tails has Electrum wallet installed.

You really just need to load the private keys in your offline wallet and make a transaction with an appropriate fee, you can use bitcoinfees.21.co for fee estimation.
888  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happen If I want to invest bitcoin before the another fok the bitcoingold? on: October 10, 2017, 10:12:56 PM
After the fork you will have the bitcoins you bought right now and you would own the same amount of Bitcoin Gold coins as well.

has it been ascertained like that? can you please provide a link from a reliable source? because if it is true it will be like the first fork in august ago, it will really be utilized to get bitcoin gold for free from bitcoin I have at this time.

I can provide you a link with a definition of hardfork, if that is what you wish. You don't need no "reliable" article when talking about cryptocurrency, it is all open source.

By the definition of a hardfork, you will have both coins. It is like the first fork and it will be like the last fork as well, it is like all the forks, it is what forks do. They fork your coins to two blockchains.
889  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So how much privacy do we really need? on: October 10, 2017, 08:35:05 PM
Law enforcement doesn't have special access of course, but it can taint dirty coins and with the help of special companies they can de-anonymize transactions. Bitcoin is not anonymous, many examples exist (some listed above, like someone who might have a 5000BTC wallet, or the bitcoins that are coming from ransomware attacks).

On the opposite side do we really want perfect anonymity?
My point is that if we somehow had a 100% proven perfectly anonymous cryptocurrency, that cryptocurrency would certainly be used also for illegal activities (money laundering, drugs etc.). If you were a criminal and you had the perfect way to receive/send money for your illegal business, you would choose this anonymous cryptocurrency to do your business. And eventually governments would shut down exchanges accepting this cryptocurrency, so instead of a mainstream currency it would eventually become a currency for illegal activities only, and that currency would only be traded on the black market.

I think that if country would block a crypto because it offers anonymity, then we should make Bitcoin anonymous and let them make it illegal.
We shouldn't let some government tell us that our privacy isn't worth it, it is and should be our right.
If a country wants to cut itself out of a financial revolution, then let them do it, we will see how it works out for them when the rest of countries take over the market and have all the benefits of this new and amazing tech.

I have known this tech for few years now and I have known the governments for many more and I can tell you that I trust in this technology far more then any other government in this world.
If it was up to governments or Bitcoin, I think I have a pretty good idea on who will win in the long run.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can a determined country block bitcoin? on: October 10, 2017, 08:14:18 PM
No. Not completely anyway. There are different things a government can do to make it harder, they could always run after the Bitcoin users and the ways they transact their coins, but they will never be 100% successful. Blocking all Bitcoin nodes and the Tor network (Tor network is incredibly hard to block and is a challenge on it's own without removing the Internet itself) would be a start, but you would still find many people bypassing the restrictions, since Bitcoin blockchain is literally broadcasted all over the globe with Blockstream's satellites. They will just need to upload transactions to the rest of the network, which are very small and need to be done very rarely, especially with the introduction of the Lightning Network.

Bitcoin is getting harder to block every year and it already reached a massive point of no return where the biggest states would have enormous trouble of making that a reality, if they had economic incentive to do so in the first place.
891  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How many coins will be forked? on: October 10, 2017, 08:03:57 PM
That is correct, we will get bgold by the end of this month and s2x in the second half of November.
There are probably more forks, but these ones are somewhat well known, that is all.

It is nothing complicated, you had only Bitcoin once, then in 1st of August Bitcoin Cash (BCH) forked off. In few weeks Bitcoin Gold will fork from Bitcoin and we will have that as well. Around 20th November Bitcoin Segwit2x will fork off Bitcoin. There is 3 forks as you can see that will produce 3 new cryptocurrencies from Bitcoin's blockchain.
892  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What kind of programmer do I need to make a web wallet? on: October 10, 2017, 07:56:16 PM
A programmer needs to understand that private keys should be highly secured and usually web developers don't get involved with private keys or this type of issues. It is very possible that the programmer could make some obvious design flaw if he knows nothing about crypto, but no one can know how he/she will handle it. You obviously need some research, at least, to make a working web wallet in the first place.

No one knows how that person will handle it, but some additional understanding will have to be acquired.
893  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Tax Breaks Help The Rich on: October 09, 2017, 09:05:48 PM
USA was always ruled by the rich. That it why they were such big enemies of communism, I mean communism is a stupid idea, but USA were leaders in hostility as their rich got afraid.

I think that most of the world has simple tax laws, I am not sure tho, but the simplest and safest way to tax the population is simply a fixed percentage on any income for everybody. Giving some tax breaks to the poor wouldn't be a bad idea, since they wouldn't contribute much anyway and need the money the most, but taxing them same as the rich is fair as well.
894  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the real problem of man? on: October 09, 2017, 09:00:48 PM
I am surprised no one said "woman".

Anyway, I think it is nuclear weapons and how easy it would be to extinct the human race and many other species in just couple of minutes in a domino effect of use of such weapons. And every war brings humanity more on the edge and filled with anger.

896  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Cash's price during a Segwit2X fork on: October 09, 2017, 11:14:54 AM
Well I'm not sure what you mean by BCH as a safe haven as I have seen no evidence of that over the past few months.

Anyway, btc price will pump between now and 25th Oct due to people wanting their free 2x coin. I believe most to sell their 2x coin after November 1st once 2x trading becomes available.

I'd leave Alts alone. Get btc, get free 2x, sell 2x for btc and then do what you want. Worked well for me during BCH fork.

Also, most people aren't worried about the fork as we've seen it before and look at the price after the BCH fork. Look at the charts.

Well BCH won't experience a fork so there will be no giant uncertainties about it compared to Bitcoin. It's price, whether small or big, might be stable during Bitcoin.

You are talking about Bitcoin Gold fork on 25th Oct, not 2x. 2x fork is happening around 20th November.

It is true that people will be more confident, since they seen a hardfork before, but also this one might not have replay protection and majority of mining power and big companies has signed an S2X agreement, compared to BCH fork that got a minority of hashpower, companies and devs on their side. This one perhaps is devs and users vs mining pools and companies.
897  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: i had a doubt from a long time .............. on: October 09, 2017, 11:05:51 AM
Again with you. Go learn about public keys and you will see that.
you can only have one private key for a public key.
But you really don't understand what you are talking about here.
You don't send bitcoins to a public key, you "send" it to an address.

Please give me one example of a private key generating multiple different public keys.
Are you maybe talking about a compressed and uncompressed addresses?

Your question makes no sense, go learn about Bitcoin addresses, here is one link https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address.
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core problem install on: October 09, 2017, 10:56:57 AM
Delete peers.dat and banlist.dat files in your Bitcoin data directory and restart Bitcoin Core and you should be fine.
899  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin Cash's price during a Segwit2X fork on: October 09, 2017, 10:52:39 AM
What do you speculate will happen during a Segwit2X fork?

Will people go to BCH as a safe haven until they see will the fork happen and which blockchain will win.
There is a lot of uncertainty about the fork, like will the signatories keep their promise and if they will implement a last minute replay protection like they did in BCH?

On the other hand I heard that altcoin prices dropped during a BCH hardfork, so will it be similar? Will the market treat BCH as an altcoin, or will it treat it like a safe haven as an Bitcoin alternative, since it is the forth crypto by market cap right now (even tho I wouldn't count ripple as a crypto).
900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what makes you trust a company in this industry? on: October 09, 2017, 10:36:16 AM
Nothing. Never trust anybody but your family and close friends. A company couldn't care less about you, they are just going to stick with you while it is profitable, but they will trick you whenever they can.
