I got a letter today telling me the bad news.  Fuck.  They're offering 2 years of identity theft protection services but what good is that when my Social Insurance Number is forever?  I don't have much with Mackenzie but the first thing I do will be to move it out... I'm thinking Bitcoin.
Can you not change your social insurance number? I guess it would be a pain in the arse to change it everywhere, but I'd hope they'd have something in place to secure people who have had their data breached.

I didn't think I could but after reading your post, I looked into it and if I can prove it was stolen, I can change it!   I'm going to go to Service Canada first thing Monday with my letter and try.  Thanks for prompting me Smiley

Canada once again better than the USA !

Well, I don't want to get my cart ahead of my horse but I'll keep my  fingers crossed.

" Data breach exposes clients' personal information at one of Canada's largest investment firms

Clients’ names, social insurance numbers and personal addresses were part of a data breach at one of Canada’s largest investment firms.
Toronto-based Mackenzie Investments confirmed to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday that a third party vendor, InvestorCOM Inc., was compromised by a cyber security incident related to data transfer supplier GoAnywhere...

...Hackers took advantage of a zero-day vulnerability in GoAnywhere’s file transfer system and accessed customers’ data at the end of January, according to the company.  Organizations around the world were impacted by the ransomware attack, including Proctor and Gamble, Rubrik, and the City of Toronto...

RIP Gordon Lightfoot.
 One of the best.
 A Legendary Canadian Folk/Rock Musician

He has many great songs but this one is my fave: If You Could Read My Mind

He passed away May1st and I meant to post it then but I... shaky old man syndrome I guess.

As a sailer in USN "THE wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vST6hVRj2A

always held it dear to my heart.

The Edmund sank in 1975.

The song came out in 1976

I joined the USN in 1978

and in 1980 my ship the USS Dixie AD-14 which was the only active remaining ship from WWII

sailed through the biggest cyclone in

 the Indian Ocean. For 1980

All I could think of was that song as  It took us three days to fully clear past the waves that typhoon made.

Viola-Claudette March of 1980 was the strom

You have lead an interesting life Mr. philipma1957!

Stupid bastards.

 https://cryptopotato.com/biden-administration-pushes-congress-to-pass-30-tax-on-bitcoin-mining/

"Biden Administration Pushes Congress to Pass 30% Tax on Bitcoin Mining

 Author: Andrew Throuvalas

The White House views the Bitcoin mining industry as environmentally harmful and limited in economic benefit.

The White House is attempting to persuade Congress to pass a 30% climate change tax on cryptocurrency miners as part of its next federal budget.

The change, titled the Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) excise tax, is designed to encourage mining firms to start taking better account of their so-called ‘societal harms’, including higher energy prices and greenhouse gas emissions...

...The tax would be phased in over 3 years, starting at 10% in the first year before rising to 20% and eventually 30% in the following two years. Over 10 years, it would generate an estimated $3.5 billion in revenue...
"

They (the gov't) wont make a @#$ cent.  The margins are not good enough to support such a luxury tax so miners will go elsewhere.

What about the miners that use mining to create solar arrays.

Will my solar created be taxed?

Their arguments are quite flimsy and could pertain to pretty much any human endeavour but I think they also have you in their sights:

"The environmental impacts of cryptomining exist even when miners use existing clean power. For example, in the case of communities with hydropower where cryptomining operations are often located, increased electricity consumption by cryptominers reduces the amount of clean power available for other uses, raising prices and increasing overall reliance on dirtier sources of electricity." 1

1from: https://www.whitehouse.gov/cea/written-materials/2023/05/02/cost-of-cryptomining-dame-tax/

Apparently, by you putting up your own solar array and using it for your own purposes, you are still harming "low-income neighborhoods and communities of color" since it could have been used in a way that would offset the pollution caused by other forms of electrical generation, that would still be required to meet the demand of those poor bastards in New York who will be banned from using gas for their cook-stoves, such as natural gas turbines.  Oh the irony.

Sorry for the bad news philipma1957  Sad

Observing corn@28,340.

Classic WO game.

Where am I?

Pretty easy I must say.

Given the provided information, where am I going in the next 20 minutes?

I don't think "easy" means what you think it means. Smiley

That looks like a heavy duty overhead crane ~20t at least in a ~70's era heavy manufacturing plant?  You're there to update their lighting to newer, more efficient LEDs.

I seems like every time I post, the board double posts it!   wtf?

edit: except for this one.  Maybe it has something to do with the way images are handled?

Quite often I've seen it take ages to post something, so I think it isn't working, then I try to refresh and it turns out it did post the previous post anyway so indeed in those cases it always seems to end up in a double posting.

This does happen a lot.

It does seem like the posts that take a while are the ones that end up double.  I don't hit refresh though.

I like how Bitcoin awareness is slowly spreading.

Wow... please tell me you are going HODL? Right?

The only way to hodl that sort of thing is around the midsection which is not recommended by 4 out of 5 family doctors.

If I were to make a guess at what is fueling this current rally suddenly, I would point to the money suddenly being made on the latest memecoin. I don’t think it’s crazy to assume that some money being made on Pepe’s recent rise is funneling itself into Bitcoin. It’s amazing how these altcoin boom and busts continue to happen after so many years.

For me it is fairly abstract as I have no descendants to worry or care about and I will be 99 in 2100.

Heads up American hodlers!

 https://techcrunch.com/2023/04/26/hackers-are-breaking-into-att-email-accounts-to-steal-cryptocurrency/

Hackers are breaking into AT&T email accounts to steal cryptocurrency

" Unknown hackers are breaking into the accounts of people who have AT&T email addresses, and using that access to then hack into the victim’s cryptocurrency exchange’s accounts and steal their crypto, TechCrunch has learned.

At the beginning of the month, an anonymous source told TechCrunch that a gang of cybercriminals have found a way to hack into the email addresses of anyone who has an att.net, sbcglobal.net, bellsouth.net and other AT&T email addresses.

According to the tipster, the hackers are able to do that because they have access to a part of AT&T’s internal network, which allows them to create mail keys for any user. Mail keys are unique credentials that AT&T email users can use to log into their accounts using email apps such as Thunderbird or Outlook, but without having to use their passwords.

With a target’s mail key, the hackers can use an email app to log into the target’s account and start resetting passwords for more lucrative services, such as cryptocurrency exchanges. At that point it’s game over for the victim, as the hackers can then reset the victim’s Coinbase or Gemini account password via email.

The tipster provided a list of alleged victims. Two of the victims replied, confirming they have been hacked..."

  Thanks for the timely warning!
