Wait... you've never had a sip of coffee?  I thought it was a "my body is a temple" thing but now I'm perplexed.

No, I've never had a sip of coffee.  Not because my body is a temple, but because I've just never felt the need.  I see people wake up and say they can't function until they've had their coffee.  That's enough for me to not want to ever get on that train.  I wake up ready for anything.  Smiley

My body is less like a temple and more like a monster truck.  I'm more of a live fast die young sort of fella.  I don't lift weights for my health, I do it to make the ride in the truck more fun.

A more on topic post...  It appears like we've been stuck in a trading range for 3 months now.  With this latest change of direction I think we're likely to see a retest around the $48K range.  If that breaks, there's really just one more major level at $52K to smash through before a straight run to the all time high.  We're closer to new highs than people think right now, but a lot of selling is coming in the pipeline that will delay the ride.

Oh, well there's mega cups of coffee for wakefulness but there's so much more to it.
I took a small bag of the Ethiopian Gigesa (they also call it Geisha) to my brother's place last time we visited and my nephew was home from school with his girlfriend.  She (let's say Ruby) said she doesn't drink coffee; doesn't like it.  I got my sister-in-law to grind and brew some up (she's really good at it - she used to run her own specialty coffee cart) for us and we gave a small cup to Ruby.   She said, "Wow.  I don't usually like coffee but I would drink this!"

I stumbled on this particular variety very recently so it's still quite a new experience.  This one I drink to enjoy - the Tim Horton's is just a social drink and when I was working shift, idgaf what it was as long as it had caffeine in it.  Other varieties I drink to enjoy are Hawaiian Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Kenya "AA".   Anyone else reading this, feel free to give me suggestions for a new variety to sample.

Okay, I did my 100 sips - the first 50 were a cafe Americana which I made with a double shot of Guji, Ethiopian Gigesa heirloom from my espresso machine.  (If you like a strong tasting coffee, it isn't for you.  It's quiet subtle but nice for a change)  The second 50 sips was the daily medium Tim Hortons I have with my parents.  After that, I did a 5km brisk walk.  All this talk about fitness made me realize I haven't done much in the way of exercise since around Sept.  Thanks for shaming me into it, gentlemen.  What's the point of hodling if I wont be around to take advantage?

It's good that you have the realisation and next thing is to focus on your fitness. Just spare 30 mins for exercise 5 times a week and you will be good to go. If you do regular exercise then your body will be addicted to it and you will find comfort in it. Don't take exercise as fatigue rather enjoy it.
Take blood readings after 3 months of regular exercise and you will clearly the difference.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice.  I can tell you with certainty I will never become addicted to it though.  I've always likened exercise to hitting myself over the head with a hammer; it feels best when I stop.  I will do my best to persevere.  My triglycerides and cholesterol were slightly elevated on my last blood test and I'll have it checked again in a few months.

Sounds like too much tobacco!
I never had anxiety problems, even from THC-heavy (+10%) weed as long as i vaped it (and that are quite some years now).
However, when i was smoking it with tobacco in my younger years, i experienced lots of anxiety.

Occasionally, there are some studies that oerate on basis of pure substance use, and some are cross-comparable to surveys, where most participants are smoking the weed, where you can directly calculate the much lower addiction potential and much safer side-effect profile of "purified" cannabis usage. I did this in the past, my personal experience also confirms the result and numbers ususally don't lie.

Tobacco? What's that got to do with it?

There's no indication that tobacco was involved in any of the studies being discussed here. I was talking about the ratio of cannabidiol (a natural anti-psychotic) to THC in cannabis, nothing to do with tobacco.

Also 10% THC is not THC-heavy by today's standards. Many if not most high-THC strains are now over 20% THC. It's when the CBD levels are <5% that anxiety becomes a problem.

You didn't mention what the CBD levels were in your "THC-heavy (+10%) weed". A nice 10% CBD/10% THC balance shouldn't create any anxiety.

Hold on, dude!
I didn't doubt or question the importance of the role of the THC/CBD ratio, nor would i ever do.
Also, 10%+ includes any figure above, even 24% (which was the "strongest" i personally tried, yet).
As a matter of fact, you're completely right regarding the balance of those two cannbinoids, just to make that clear.
But: Alcaloids contained in tobacco (and possibly additives) contribute to interdependent effects with cannabinoids.

However, the study isn't linked from the article, but i may quote this part:
Quote
“They might have been having some kind of mental health concerns, were feeling quite depressed and also smoking cannabis very regularly. None of these people had an emergency room visit for anxiety when they first showed up,” he said.

And cannabis is commonly smoked mixed with tobacco, innit?
I didn't see any hint that mixed use consumers were excluded in the study. I can tell you from the plenty of studies i have read so far: Usually they are not. The wording "Cannabis use" usually doesn't differ between smoking, eating, pure or mixed, extracted by using oil, alcohol or gas. But it makes a difference. It has to, it is simply biochemistry at work here.

Again: No offense regarding the effects of cannabinoid balance, which is a proven fact, but when the media (and also studies) are pointing out "cannabis use", they don't mean pure cannabis. That's a major flaw to the disadvantage of that magic present of nature and how it is percieved by the public and also medical realm. I can't believe that "scientists" are working at such a level of imprecision.
And again: I was diagnosed for panic attacks (social anxiety), which mysteriously disappeared soon after i quit smoking tobacco. Nicotine is a neurotoxin. Add this up with "smoking cannabis very regularly" from the quoted part of the article. Click?

 Wink

I avoid tobacco at all costs but there are people who only smoke blunts rolled in tobacco leaves.  It was more popular 20 years ago before the invention of the "pre-roll" that you see nowadays, but old habits die hard for some folks.

As far as the THC% discussion...  It would be hard to find a strain with lower than 20% THC in my area and strains containing as high as 35% are common for the right price.  They even have "infused" pre-rolls now that I've seen with 45% THC content for as low as $6 a piece...  Times are changing...

My $0.02 on the anxiety and CBD argument...  There are more than 420 chemicals in cannabis and more than 50 of them are cannabinoids.  I believe it would be foolish to try and break down anxiety to only the ratio of THC/CBD.  Tip of the iceberg friends.  This is why you shouldn't judge cannabis by the THC or the CBD content and instead by the feeling YOU get from it, as all people are also different.  Longtime Humboldt County farmers who have worked on their strains for generations absolutely HATE that people boil their decision on what to purchase down to the THC content only.  It's just a piece of the equation.  People used to obsess about Indica vs Sativa, now they talk about different levels of the 4 major cannabinoids that have been studied: d9THC, CBD, d8THC and cannabinol.  In time the levels of these 4 cannabinoids used to determine the effects of cannabis will be expanded to 50+ and there will be a rating system with charts and things.  For now, it's just easiest to look at THC content, but don't fool yourself into thinking that's an accurate reflection of the differences in strains.  The opinion of a smoker on a strain is far superior than the determination of a lab, for now.  My opinion: Gorilla Glue is the best strain regardless of what lab tests say about percentages or ratios of different crops.  Smiley

Oh ya... BITCOIN IS BACK ABOVE $44,000!  The post ETF profit taking appears to be in the rearview.

Wait... you've never had a sip of coffee?  I thought it was a "my body is a temple" thing but now I'm perplexed.

Everyone thinking inflation will magically disappear and interest rates will be cut right back down to zero needs to think again.

Just one piss poor council in the UK here, is already raising taxes by 10% this year to fund non existent shitty services and overpaid CEOs.

Ten fucking percent in one year.

Birmingham given go-ahead to raise council tax by up to 10%
https://uk.yahoo.com/news/birmingham-given-ahead-raise-council-190309956.html

The Mayor of TO was threatening to increase property taxes by 16.5% if they couldn't get increased funding from the federal gov't (aka also our tax dollars) and it was big news.  Then it was 10.5% and I believe she ended up putting forth a 9.5% proposal which will be put to a vote on Valentines' Day - how sweet - and I guess we're supposed to feel relieved because it wasn't "double digits" but we're just being manipulated.  Last year it was a 5.5% increase.  Maybe it's time to eat crow and call Roger for some of those sweet passports-for-investment deals he's hocking.

Especially when we have idiots like this with a soapbox on gov't funded media claiming to be a fiscal conservative.

https://www.tvo.org/article/im-a-lifelong-fiscal-conservative-and-i-support-raising-torontos-property-taxes

TL;DR - I'm actually a socialist with communist leanings writing propaganda for the state-run media (while probably living in state-assisted housing) and you should mortgage the increased value on your property in order to pay your damn taxes, you leech!

---------

Again, this is probably too much personal info but this is the first year that my property taxes alone (and I just have one property) account for more than one month of my after-provincially-and-federally-taxed income while my gross income is ~8% higher than last year.  This is because income taxes have increased and the value of our property (assessed every 4 years but stalled for the last 3 years allegedly due to covid) has increased.  So not only am I paying a property and income tax increase year after year but an accelerated property tax increase on an increasing "assessed" home value.  I think the idea is to force us all into multi-family dwellings/apartments by taxation and allowing a ludicrous number of immigrants into the country with no place to put them.  It makes my head hurt thinking about it.  I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir for the most part.

Anyone have Roger's contact info handy?

Cannabis use linked to anxiety diagnoses, worsened anxiety disorders: Ontario study
By Camille Bains  The Canadian Press

"Cannabis use may increase the risk of developing a new anxiety disorder or worsen existing anxiety, a large Ontario study suggests.

The study looked at health data of 12 million people between January 2008 and March 2019 and found that 27.5 per cent of people who visited an emergency room for cannabis use developed an anxiety disorder for the first time within three years.

Lead author Dr. Daniel Myran, an adjunct scientist at the research institute ICES, said that in comparison, 5.6 per cent of the general population sought help for anxiety in an ER or outpatient setting over three years.

O/T

Finally fearing for her own political career -being "democratically elected" *cough appointed* into a position that had no opponents-, Ursula Von Der Lies, president of the EU commission, is scrapping the pesticides reduction bill, effectively binning all of (enemy of the citizens) Frans "Adolf" Timmermans' bollocks ideas.

Ursula von der Leyen scraps pesticide reduction bill, in gift to farmers

 Cheesy

Go Woke, Go Broke.

Wow.  It took her long enough to take the hint.  Now when does she step aside and dissolve the EU?

Task has failed successfully.

Bye bye!!!

i wound up with some bsv on coinbase a while back when i sent some bcash_lol to coinbase to dump. they split it automatically into bch (which i sold) and bsv, which i couldnt really do anything with, including trade or sell it. so it sat.

but now....  presto! my bsv was changed to usdc, and that was rapidly changed to btc.

ah life has balance again

I really miss the free money airdrops and forks of 2017...

is there a section in the forum where they list airdops for BTC holders only?  (don't wanna go through all the crap for shitcoin holders)

I was so sure bitcoin is king, in my mind there was no doubt about how to proceed with the first "controversial" fork.   I remember taking a day off work without pay to get some of those fork coins and convert them to bitcoin.  I sang that Dire Straits song all day (except for the Sting part at the beginning - I can't sing that high).  Hmmm... makes me wonder what Roger is up to these days...

Still stumping for something.  Imagine renouncing your citizenship to a country people risk their lives to get into and then pushing passports-for-money-schemes for citizenship in those countries people are risking their lives to escape.  It seems a little misguided but then... "Borders are imaginary lines" - he's a walking contradiction. He probably thinks if he closes his eyes, we can't see him.

To answer your question Gachapin, I don't think so but this site has a ton of concise info about all of the forks and airdrops of the King:

https://forkdrop.io/#table-bitcoin

it even shows links to ANN threads here on bitcointalk.

I'm on a modified version - 100 sips of coffee daily until 100k (and beyond)
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I've never had so much as a sip of coffee in my life.  I'll stick to push-ups.
I'm not saying you didn't say that but if you did say that, I do say I would have remembered.  Just sayin'

That was "what's his name" who said that:  OgNasty

I personally have been bullied by OgNasty into doing pushups, and I was going to start out with 10 per day and work my way up.. but I have already done 50 pushups today.. so maybe 50 is going to have to be good enough for the day... I am not sure.. just have to measure midnight to midnight, and if I feel like doing a few more than that will up my tally for the day.. my plan will still be to work my way up to 100 and then probably work my way back down to some number, and then maybe I will add some other exercises into the mix.. I think that it could be a good habit to do body weight exercises.. even though it can be painful.

Regarding coffee consumption:  I believe that around 8 months ago I already mentioned that I felt that I had to cut back on my daily coffees.. and mostly due to my teeth.. but also I think that I had developed some other bad habits around coffee..that had to do with what I was putting in the coffee.... .. but I am not completely against coffee.. and I do still drink it once in a while.. - just not daily.. and since I am not against drinking coffee, I may end up adding it back into my routine at some point.. perhaps?

Yeah, I'm sorry.  I totally screwed up that post trying to remove the quotes.  I figured the best thing to do was delete it.

I'll do 100 push-ups tomorrow as penance.

Computer expert told ‘brazen lie’ that he is Bitcoin founder, High Court hears

Quote
A key piece of evidence, the court heard, was that experts on both sides agreed that the original white paper was written on OpenOffice software.

But the version provided by Dr Wright as evidence had been found to have been created on software called LaTeX, which did not exist when the white paper was written, Mr Hough said.

WTF?!
Don't get me wrong, i hate that Wright Mofo, but LaTeX is way older than OpenOffice!
This statement just doesn't make any sense.

Now I may be full of shit, but my understanding is that the whitepaper submitted to the court, by dr. faketoshi, as evidence, used a version of LaTeX that was not yet released when the original whitepaper was written AND the original version was written in OpenOffice as attested to by both parties

edit: you're right though - that quoted piece is incorrect.

https://reeserichardson.blog/2024/01/30/the-king-of-curcumin-a-case-study-in-the-consequences-of-large-scale-research-fraud/

"Curcumin doesn’t work well as a therapeutic agent for any disease.

...hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, countless hours spent toiling by junior scientists, thousands of laboratory animals sacrificed, thousands of cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials for ineffective treatments, and countless people who have eschewed expensive and invasive but effective cancer treatment in favor of a store-bought spice, encouraged by research steeped in lies."

Well I suppose it still makes chickpeas palatable.

And what is the point that journo is making?
That they should not have investigated this compound at all? Without those investigations how would they know if it is useful or not?
In addition, personally, I would rather see them waste 100mil on a bunch of negative results studies than on one 'smart' bomb.

That said, the effort investigating this compound probably should have been much more subdued, like a few mil at most.
Negative results is what gives food for better understanding of anything as they are as important as positive results sometimes, but in this case they clearly overspent by a large margin.

I think the purpose is simply to inform the world of a scam being perpetrated on them essentially led by one individual with a PhD who is publishing fraudulent research.  It's not my NIH pouring your tax dollars on into it so fill your boots.  It's not just about money though, this story had a profound impact on me - I was downright angry after reading it.

I don't like to give this much personal information but in this case, I think it's necessary.

My parents are not young.  I'm happy that they're still able to live on their own with limited support from the rest of the family but about 2 years ago, my dad was suddenly having trouble getting up from his chair or out of bed and barely able to walk.  He was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis by our family doctor who immediately started him on a high dose of prednisone.  The transformation was amazing and immediate and he got his mobility back almost instantly.  Since the markers for arthritis in his blood were off the charts, the family doctor wanted my dad to have a consult with a specialist (here you have to be referred to one) but it takes forever to see them and covid protocols made things worse some doctors, this one in particular, was only doing phone consults.  Meanwhile, our family doctor began the process of slowly ramping the dose of prednisone down to a tiny 2mg per day and everything was good.  Then after an over-the-phone consult, the specialist wanted him off prednisone, first taking him to 1mg per day.  At 1mg per day, he began having some pain again and when he was totally off it, more pain and less mobility.  He was no longer walking around the block each morning so I made him call the specialist - I was fucking livid when she called and told him to begin taking 500mg of curcumin daily because I had already tagged it as a fad and fuck her replacing a drug that works with some unproven spice especially at my dad's age.  It did nothing for him - NOTHING - now fast forward about two weeks when I took his morning coffee over he was sitting at the kitchen table telling me he didn't know if he could drink a coffee because his hands hurt so much he couldn't move his fingers.  I immediately had him call the specialist who, without a consult or any tests, said, "Well it's not related to what I was treating you for so call your GP."  I'm not a violent man but if it were possible to punch someone over the phone...  Now he's back on 5mg predisone as prescribed by our family doctor and doing his daily walk once again.  He was doing well on 2mg so this is a setback.  The specialist wanted to see him again so I took him in expecting she would apologize for brushing him off but no... she wants to take him off prednisone... again.

Why would a licensed rheumatologist recommend curcumin to treat a known condition?  What would make her think it's a viable treatment for any condition?  Why would she think long term high dose of spice would be better than long term low dose of prednisone for that condition?  If not prednisone, why not a proven, effective, NSAID instead?  Why Biodom???  WHY?  I don't even care how much they spent researching this fraud it's the far-reaching implications of the fraudulent research that's at issue.  When a specialist swaps a known remedy for a fraudulent fuckin' fad, we're all in trouble.  I have the unfortunate advantage of first hand experience.

I have to get moving.  I'm on my way to my parents' place with coffee and a printout of the article.  They can read over it while I vacuum the floors.

Your dad just had a bad doctor, but it is somewhat understandable why they wanted him off prednisone, even if they were mistaken (in this case).
Side effects of prednisone (quoting from the article below):
1. Fluid/sodium retention (could mess up the sodium/potassium balance)
2. Muscle weakness
3. osteoporosis (brittle bones)
4. Stomach ulcers
5. delayed wound healing
6. increased risk of diabetes.

https://www.drugs.com/medical-answers/long-you-prednisone-safely-3561220/

However, it is totally unclear why they started him on curcumin (with all that knowledge that it is bogus) instead of ADT (alternate date therapy) with prednisone that is described in the quoted article.
Perhaps, it is simply an ignorant doctor? The article rages about one Dr, who does not come up as a good researcher, and I was just saying that BEFORE testing it is impossible to know what works and what doesn't.

Many many people (including on WO) take various vitamins (myself included), but very often studies come up that this or that vitamin, all by itself, does essentially nothing if taken for long periods of time. Also, some people (like the character played by Seth Rogan in "Knocked up") claim that weed does magic to some diseases, but apart from glaucoma, the evidence is either thin, contradictory or patchy, imho.

Okay, without getting too specific, he's well into his 80s and he has a long list of medical issues but diabetes is not a concern.  My dad is always reading me the side effects of every medication he takes.  I'll same the same to you - what about the positive effects?  Without the prednisone, he doesn't walk.  If he can't breathe due to asthma, he needs a puff on his inhaler.  The side effects of lack of oxygen, are much worse that any of the negative side effects of the puffer (osteoporosis).  He's on blood thinners too and the side effects make a nasty-looking list but a stroke could be devastating.  He's s a tough old bird and still wants his independence so mobility is key.  While I don't like to think about it, how many years has he got left?   Side-effects be damned.  Those are for young people to think about.
