261  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Bets! on: March 11, 2024, 12:50:24 PM
Trump loses again, and Biden wins  Cheesy
I really don't think it's gonna be that simple. I'm not a fan of either to be honest but it seems that many people in the left hold a lot of resentment towards Biden because of his stance on what's happening to the Palestinian people. I see the left more fragmented than in previous elections. Of course it's worth considering also that the U.S. voting system heavily favors the two major parties no matter who their candidate is.

But in the meantime I see republicans unapologetically supporting Trump. There are no asterisks for them like there are for democrats voting for Biden right now. No candidate came even close to beating Trump in the primaries in spite of him having lost the previous election and in spite of his many mishaps. His opponents brought up many valid points against him but people simply didn't care.

[Everyone else is a joke candidate and I don't understand why Stake doesn't just give them all 100:1 odds.]
Seeing Michelle Obama further up than valid third party candidates that will be on most ballots this year makes me wonder too, who thought of putting these names up there?
Surely the odds are affected by betting amounts also but the name selection is more or less manual and many of these make zero sense.
262  Economy / Gambling discussion / 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Bets! on: March 11, 2024, 12:17:53 PM
Let's have a thread to discuss gambling on the 2024 United States Presidential election!
Remember: This is a thread about gambling, we go by the official results. For disputing past events you can go on the politics board.

Amazingly it looks like we're headed straight to yet another Biden vs. Trump race.

It's also a first for this year's race for how old both candidates are. Interestingly, bookmakers have added several other picks to the table other than Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The chances of either dying prior to the race aren't that unlikely it seems. Also in the case of Donald Trump, several cases are proceeding in the courts, which some are speculating might hinder his bid to the presidency.

Let's discuss the likelihood of each candidate winning the election, events, as well as which platforms offer this market for crypto-enabled bets.
263  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you prefer betting your own predictions or from prediction site on: March 10, 2024, 11:55:34 PM
I always bet on my own predictions. It's funny when you see these predictions from supposed experts because if you would try to graph them, they generally perform worse than random. It makes absolutely no sense to me why people would trust so called professional tipsters but somehow this shit sells. To this day there's newspapers with pages upon pages of match predictions. I'm thinking to myself that it must be random, it can't be any other way around because no logical human would sit and make predictions on all football leagues that have matches in good faith...

But people buy it somehow. Can you blame them though? These newspapers were cheap, maybe a single pound more than a regular newspaper. But nowdays there's very expensive tipster services, which makes even less sense if you think about it.
264  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Nigerian Telcos Have Blocked Nigerians access to all crypto exchange websites on: March 10, 2024, 11:45:36 PM
I think at this point the ban is just a DNS level ban as only the exchange websites are banned,  but their apps are still working,  and also aside from binance whose p2p and other naira services have been affected,  other exchanges are still serving Nigerians at the moment and everything seems to be fine for now,  but we can tell what will happen in the coming week as the war against exchanges are being intensified so for sure we need to prepare for rainy days and entirely stay away from CEX for now for the safety of our investments.
Over here in Greece there's also a very expansive list of online casinos being blocked, which includes most crypto casinos too. But it can be bypassed by simply changing the DNS on your computer. So I would assume most crypto users are already educated enough in computers to know how to bypass these silly blocks.

But as of exchanges being banned... This could make things much harder. Lots of people in Europe nearly abandoned crypto when they lost the convenience of sending a simple bank transfer to get crypto from binance. If at least Nigeria could replace foreign exchanges with local regulated ones that have banking integration it might be a win win. But it's something that could take time. I hope these changes don't adversely effect the country's crypto users at least.
265  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 10, 2024, 11:32:58 PM

Seems like we hit our 1.4 odds on the AEK Lamia match!

Now for the matches on the play-out round that are on March 16... I'm too unsure. I was thinking waiting it out entirely before making any serious bets again on the next play-off match day but... Let's just take a shot...

I've been burned too many times betting on an OFI win. But if I bet on there being more than 2 goals I think I won't lose even if OFI loses. Let's see.  Cheesy
266  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: March 10, 2024, 11:16:40 PM

Though, Israel actually has confirmed their participation and released their song already, it's called "Hurricane" by Eden Golan. Maybe the betting odds haven't been updated yet to reflect that.
I see that this new song was released only a few hours ago on Eurovision's official YouTube account. It's interesting that Israel had an entire back up song and music video in production after their "October Rain" debacle. Also interesting how the European Broadcasting Union didn'g outright disqualify it and let them in with a different song.

As a song it's a more fitting song for Eurovision. But 17.00 is good enough based on how many Eurovision fans have come out against the contest based on the fact that Israel is participating. Certainly though on the opposite side of it there's gonna be people strategically maxing their votes in favor of Israel. I'd argue though that songs way down the list have better production. So it'll be interesting now to see if Israel moves further up or down the list after the change in songs.
267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eurovision 2024 bets on: March 09, 2024, 11:57:46 PM
I see many eurovision fans discussing Greece's entry favorably on social media this year. Here's the music video for anyone interested:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTSTnLWGUPs

Marina Satti always has overproduced dances on her music videos, and this one especially is very campy in portraying modern Greek cultural icons in a very kitsch fashion. As a song though, it's not that interesting to me. Aesthetically pleasing for sure but nothing life changing. Also the vocals at the start are quite weird. Dunno though, at least we'll probably get to the final. After last year's tragic entry it's a fresh song to send to Eurovision which I'm glad about for my country. Also in our native language, which would be nice to see perform well.
268  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does possessing information play an important role in betting ? on: March 09, 2024, 11:48:03 PM
I think yes, of course it does.

When you are familiar with a league you know which teams can deliver reliable results so it's possible to spot when a team has good odds for one of its matches.
Sadly for most people that's only possible to do with really popular sports so the odds are already in place by the large participation. On other sports where results are more uncertain for the vast majority of people on a sportsbook it would be easier to make more educated decisions against the majority. But also it's worth keeping in mind that the bookie raises a house edge on sports bets as well. Otherwise matches on 1x2 for sports like basketball where there are no ties would be 2.0 odds for one team winning or 2.0 for the other, but it's never like that.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 09, 2024, 11:43:20 PM
Yup you're right I got it wrong too.

Indeed, this weekend isn't as promising as the previous ones. I'm guessing you meant OFI vs. Kifisia, not Lamia, am I right? I'd consider OFI vs. Kifisia. I suppose it's a nice idea to support the local team, but money is money, and it's likely to end in disappointment. It's quite unclear who's going to win, as both teams share similar performances in the Super League. I'm also leaning towards AEK vs. Lamia for now, and I'll perhaps reconsider OFI, depending on the odds.
I'm hoping for an exciting play off season and for once it's good to see someone other than Olympiakos monopolizing the Greek super league tournament as well as qualificaiton to international tournaments. But from what I saw the team's owner is extremely salty for the outcomes so far. Perhaps in the playoffs they'll be pushing hard for a comeback. But it'll surely be hard after such a non-impressive season for them. Panathinaikos also fucked up in the last few matches before playoffs.
270  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Nigerian Telcos Have Blocked Nigerians access to all crypto exchange websites on: March 08, 2024, 11:56:52 PM
Is this a DNS level ban? Because if so then it's really easy to get over it and most people experienced with crypto will to so very fast I assume. It's time to spread the word I guess. If s governments currency is so bad even the volatile crypto seems like a better option to the wider population for everyday use, then the government should focus on being less corrupt other than spending so much man hours trying to ban websites.
271  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I just woke up and saw wins in my gambling app on: March 08, 2024, 11:53:11 PM
OP you arrive at the right conclusion but with very wrong criteria. Winning done money through a coupon is not an indication that you can't win in gambling. In fact casinos pay out all these bonuses so comfortably knowing that most players will just spend this money on their games eventually losing most of it which means that it just goes back to the coffers of the casino.

And indeed there's no reliable way to keep besting the casino. But bonuses is one thing that keeps many people hooked and certainly not a good way to promote people playing on a more healthy way. So if we want people to understand this, bonuses is the last thing to talk about as it's actually a promotional material for casinos.
272  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your go-to sports betting risk management strategies? on: March 08, 2024, 10:07:13 PM
My strategy is to mostly bet on matches of only big leagues or leagues I know really well...

For one, I'm from Greece, so I like to mostly bet on the Greek Super League. For more options I place bets on premiere league and primera division. The good thing with these leagues is that results are more reliable. So a good team will win more often other than fluke out. This is quite a basic part of my strategy because other sports or leagues aren't reliable and often the odds also make no sense.

I like watching many different sports but sadly when it comes to betting on them, their results often make no sense. The best tennis players for instance can lose out from someone much lower in the rankings etc.
273  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Pattern that 99.9% Leads to Bankruptcy: High Rolling on Slots! on: March 08, 2024, 12:11:14 AM
Slots and especially the ones with high volatility are made so there will be wins very rarely.
The slots with lower volatility on the other hand have a much lower theoretical RTP (hence their house edge is higher) so it's a tough choice between the two.

I think the safest strategy is to just try and find a slot machine with low volatility and under average house edge to try and beat your luck somehow. Don't roll epxecting to win big though, just roll till you're in profit. And always have some limits in place because getting carried away with slots can certainly lead to bankruptcy.
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: March 07, 2024, 11:49:52 PM
Yeah the playoff format gives so many big matches for the super league. Panathinaikos Olympiakos matches this season however were not that impressive to be honest. Hopefully the playoffs will make up for it.

As of the OFI Lamia match, I don't know. The odds seem too uncertain to draw a conclusion.

I'm not that inspired to take many bets this match day. I think I'll stick to just this bet:

Either AEK scores a lot, or receives a goal but still wins. I think over 1.75 is a safe enough choice for 1.4 odds.
275  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Even as a sport fan be careful! on: March 07, 2024, 08:33:08 PM
Not long ago a local fan of a football team was stabbed to death in Greece too. It's ridiculous what hooligans will do. They will be tough and cause a scene but will cry like babies in court and call their mom to testify how much of a cute little boy they are under the prospect of jail time. Being violent under the banned of a team is something shameful in sports. The players and the team owners should disavow such fans in the strongest terms possible. I really hope there can be a crackdown on violence in football fans one day.
276  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 06, 2024, 11:40:53 PM
I remember long ago I had a guy in my karate classes, who was really into addictive stuff. Not drugs, but he would play games all day and had given up school. Well, to the eyes of the rest of us it seemed like he was causing problems to his family, but we had no idea what was happening behind closed doors. Turns out his father was really strict and wanted to show a perfect image to the outside world. He would use this guy's daughter as a role model and constantly berate him for now following suit. The guy just wanted to earn a living working as a laborer, have a car, drive around and live a simple life. But this fell short of his father's dreams.

A couple of years later after I had stopped karate I learn that his father died of a heart attack. Immediately I thought that it was his addiction to games and gambling that must have driven his father into this state. But it was only a little later that his mother confessed to our family that his dad was abusive and they had separated, although up until his death he would force her to not admit the truth.

This taught me that tough situations often times make people become addicts. If you have someone struggling with addiction near you, try to help them before they have to take more responsibility. Because surely having responsibility while still addicted and before managing to get out of it can have its consequences, also to other people surrounding the addict.
277  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making decisions while betting on: March 06, 2024, 09:18:23 PM
Emotions surely can influence a gambler to going bust even sooner than what could have been.
If one's goal with gambling is to enjoy himself then they shouldn't stress so much about getting back lost money by increasing bets or depositing more. This is actually one of the most common catastrophic practices in gambling. Depositing more money to get back your losses can result in even bigger losses. And this is often a decision fueled by emotion.

On the other hand, there's more basic underlying issues behind anyone's gambling habits. For one, if someone can't have a sustainable source of income to save enough money, they should probably not actually gamble anything in the first place. Right now so many people in the world live paycheck to paycheck, not being able to save anything or perhaps even going in debt through the month after their paycheck money ends. In these cases gambling shouldn't be an option. Yet they see so many of the word's poor gambling. Really it's a big issue. People that gamble should be at a point in their life where they're comfortable losing a couple of bucks.
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: LISTED gambling companies to invest in on: March 06, 2024, 06:08:22 PM

There are lots of public gaming companies on the NYSE. Big casinos like the MGM or DratsKing (DKNG) are also public companies, I think they are listed somewhere. These are stocks though, crypto traders I think are not up to them.

If Casino tokens in crypto are just listed on big exchanges like Binance, they may actually be profitable, but it looks like the exchanges are prohibited from listing them. The only gaming token listed on Binance is the FUN token.
The companies that make slots are indirectly involved with crypto through their affiliated that use their products on crypto funded sites.
So if anyone here sees crypto as an investment I think they might find crypto-satelite companies interesting to also invest in. Because as the crowd that uses crypto grows, these companies also see some effect from it.
