1121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tron's Justin Sun Offers $1 Million Bounty For Twitter Hackers on: July 18, 2020, 02:34:51 PM
I bet that whoever managed to hack so many accounts probably has thought it through about what steps to take so they can't get caught.
My theory of what most likely happened is that these accounts had a common breaking point. Perhaps some authenticated application with permissions to post from something like a marketing firm.

Twitter is the one that should look into such security issues other than a crypto CEO that was affected by the hack. Honestly, that money is never going to get to the hands of anyone because the hackers probably know how to remain anonymous. It's just a publicity stunt as others have said.
1122  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: July 18, 2020, 03:49:43 AM
Whale time on bustabit.
I don't know if you see this every day, but someone just lost 6.25 BTC in a single bet and promptly deleted their account right after.

Here's the bet:
https://www.bustabit.com/game/3462696
And prior to that, the same user had 'missed' many opportunities to cash out 1000 bits @ 100x, 500x or even 900x. Instead they were just showing up on chat to flex saying "that was nothing".
This was their goodbye message:

We'll never know the context of these actions but it's just interesting to see how fast someone can crash and burn with gambling. Always remember to never gamble with what you can't afford to lose.
1123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's your favorite crypto for gambling? on: July 18, 2020, 03:20:38 AM
I especially like dogecoin because of its low fee value and faster transaction times.
It's also good if you like big round bets. Betting a dollar with BTC is around 0.0001 BTC, but with DOGE you can bet 350 coins for a dollar. Which is also useful if you like a strategy that starts with smaller bets.

I wish more crypto gambling platforms would allow deposits in a currency that was easier to transact. Because especially at times of a surge, prices can cause fees to go up substantially and therefore act as a counter incentive in making small deposits.
1124  Economy / Economics / Re: How in the world we going to restart the world economy ? on: July 18, 2020, 03:02:20 AM
I think the US did some monumental mistakes in handling the pandemic. Slow to act, fast to re-open and almost no action to prevent the spread from the federal government.
The Trump administration politicized the issue, restricted CDC's authority and downplayed science.

Now the US being the world's biggest economy, is also the world's biggest incubator for a virus that has no cure.
I think it'll be because of the US that the virus can no longer be contained. We shouldn't be looking for a way to re-start the economy any time soon, at least not until the world has received a vaccine.
Until then, and thanks to re-infection being possible from what it seems, social distancing is the new normal. Demand will be down and some businesses will have to succumb to no or very limited business throughout this period.
1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has "Decentralization" become a buzz word these days? on: July 18, 2020, 02:33:51 AM
It's true that decentralization and blockchain technology have become buzzwords these days.
People are not realizing that re-imagining bitcoin's trustless decentralized system for something other than transactions of cash isn't going to be nearly as trustless and decentralized.

Many projects have filled these holes with trust based solutions such as permissioned chains, high-trust nodes, setting validators, voting and other ridiculous solutions.
I think most projects that are rising through the De-Fi trend will spend years without having achieved much if anything. Their promises are tied around a speculative token and in reality not much beyond this is thought out.

I do think there's value in building decentralized and autonomous or semi autonomous solutions such as decentralized exchanges and marketplaces. But I don't see much value in tokenizing these systems under a proprietary model and a centrally managed organization. Cryptocurrencies ran like a corporation fail to be decentralized right from their very foundation.
1126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warning: crypto related twitter accounts (Binance, Bitcoin, TRON, &more) hacked on: July 18, 2020, 01:54:35 AM
It's unbelievable how bad the security of these crypto-related accounts must have been. A simple 2FA device would have likely prevented this.
I could see them receiving more liability if the hackers aren't found here.
Many of these Twitter accounts are followed by people that aren't well versed or very knowledgeable with into crypto and just want some news. Holding crypto doesn't mean you're an expert.
The accounts of big companies are trusted by many people uncritically for what they post... They should have invested in better security. Not that it's hard to secure a twitter account.
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: People still falls for Bitcoin doubling scheme and fake giveaways on: July 16, 2020, 07:12:30 PM
These scams are so absurd, because they look for the most naive. This is how they work. Even a few victims and the scammers are happy. It costs them very little to get the operation going after all. So they manufacture a scenario where the most vulnerable would be encouraged to transfer most of the coins they have under a FOMO situation. Hopefully as the world gets more educated about bitcoin we'll reach a point where crypto isn't considered an oddity where such things appear within the realm of possibility to anyone. Such scams are also prevalent with cash but at least not on the same proportion... But on the other hand, there will always be newbies.
1128  Economy / Reputation / Re: Red trusted casino promotes services under new account on: July 16, 2020, 07:08:59 PM
Interesting to see that wikipay started a waggering contest while the provable fairness system in their website still seems to be changing server seeds with every roll... And moreover they admitted that their programmers are working on a supposed complete overhaul of the system that they said will fix what they were accused of...
Our dev team is working on the pf system once again, it will be completely changed, so we can end this problem once and for all.
Seems like holding a competition to see people wagering more was a priority to actually having the problems fixed.
1129  Economy / Economics / Re: Do Not Pray for an Economic Crisis! on: July 16, 2020, 06:21:55 PM
There's a difference between a crisis and a recession.

Crisis is when distrust in the system develops. Which was only natural to see back in 2008 considering how monumental the fuckup of banks was... The events in Cyprus in 2013 were a force that drove quite a bit of support behind bitcoin in its early times. There, banks and the gov essentially proved who really has control over bank deposits. Government back then had essentially locked banks until they could tap in deposits of bank depositors to save the indebted national economy.

As for a financial crisis, there sure was one back in 2008. But most states were quick to rebound. But the one of coronavirus isn't exactly a systemic crisis. Nobody prays for the economic side of the crisis to be worse than we see. But really it'll be a showcase of how the existing system can handle pandemics.
1130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: LIST OF WAGERING CONTEST [Information and Discussion] on: July 15, 2020, 07:21:00 PM
This is a nice thread thank you. I would also add that it might be good to add some category with further explaination after wards. Like for example for type of waggering contest, say 'top' for most waggered and 'chance' for random etc. Otherwise very useful OP.
1131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: how big? on: July 15, 2020, 07:15:22 PM

When it comes to competition then it is somehow normal on business world and we dont know on whats inside into their minds on what they do look upon those existing continuously growing popularity of online crypto casinos or even on fiat ones. In business perspective then they would really see this as a competition since the market is divided into several pieces and basing up on the example which is on Las vegas casinos then
they wouldnt really matter much since they do know on how big they are and sustainable even if those competition does exist.

That's right. For an ordinary player playing in an online casino, it doesn't make much difference what currency they bet. It will be a dollar or bitcoin or something else. However, those people who have cryptocurrencies in their wallets will most likely prefer to play at a crypto online casino. And it is for their money that you can arrange competition.
That is something entirely dependent on the current time frame, fees and several other factors. For example, in times where the fees go up high players tend to leave money deposited longer and maybe play but avoid to add small amounts or withdraw often. Also the volatility of crypto markets. Other than that, curremtly tou are right, what matters mkstly at the end of the day is the mknetsry value of their deposit.
1132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which website do you usually go to get your news and casino reviews? on: July 15, 2020, 05:53:13 PM
To be honest I usually look her first. Bitcointalk can be harsh in its criticism sometimes, but it is only for the better. The users here are the most experienced and often know the most about provable fairness and gambling. So if a casino has no page here, to me it is a bad sign. They are maybe trying to avoid criticism or worse.
1133  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS seeks info on tracing privacy coins, LN transactions for pilot program on: July 15, 2020, 12:22:01 AM
Good luck trying to trace monero, grin etc. anonymous cryptocurrencies...

It would be interesting to see the IRS trying to find ways tracing these. It's probably not impossible, but these coins have an entire community of users seeking to advance the untracability of the cryptocurrency their using. And they're also doing it based on open technology.

It's not fair game compared how IRS will buy proprietary technology to trade them. But for some established coins, I think it could only go so far as to what it will trace.
For the technology to come from crypto companies it's even weirder. But these corporations were already embracing regulation and applying tracing for their own purposes.
So it shouldn't be much of a concern for regular users. It's just going to show that IRS has little insight in what's going on.
1134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need more examples of decentralized exchanges on: July 14, 2020, 10:55:30 PM
I think the most promising thing to look towards for Decentralized exchanges is protocols, aside for individual attempts.
Openness is key in this endeavors. Not just for open source technology, but also for how things are ran. If a for-profit company runs a DEX, there's still quite a bit of centralization in how things are ran for example.

To me the most advanced protocols that we are already seeing in practice with decentralization is bitshares. It's already fully functional and ready to support decentralized exchanges with the protocol they have in place.

Also 0x has been making many advances. There are also newer attempts to create protocols But they are not nearly as complete. For example uniswap, which is praised, has huge issues.
1135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My eye opening advice about crypto projects on: July 14, 2020, 10:16:07 PM
I don't think OP get the gist of crypto all that well...

Most of the ICOs that came forward in the ICO rally times went bust for the simple reason that they didn't focus on supply economics and didn't have a good algo to support their purported utility.

The whole 'utility' alt-coin is not much more than a sham. There isn't much into the utility of any alt-coin at the moment. No matter how innovative or how well networked its team is.
Crypto is good for some payment solutions but altcoins that start on the premise of providing a utility on launch fail.
The single most important thing to maintaining trustlessness, the foundation of cryptocurrency, is to have a good algo.
Building upon that, token distribution is also very important. For sure nobody would want to hold much of a coin that a corporation bagholds in epic proportions.
1136  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why hasn’t Bitcoin’s price skyrocketed? on: July 14, 2020, 10:11:45 PM
That's a tough question to answer.
I think there's still a lot of resistance for BTC prices to go up because many people had bought close to the peak. Sadly or not, it was the introduction many had to crypto when BTC was nearing its all time high and still rallying... These bags are still held and whenever there seems to be a break through resistance, it just amps up again by people taking profit from some down trends also.

BTC might have a second wave of exposure sooner or later. But I think that this is what's needed for prices to break through resistance for good this time. New money coming in the market en masse essentially.
1137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mindful of scammers and hackers on: July 14, 2020, 09:58:19 PM
I've also noticed a rise in fake/unfair casinos lately. Apparently it's very easy to set up a casino site with the scripts in existence.

But lately I've been seeing many new dice sites use bad provably fair systems and try to attract new users with crazy and unrealistic rolling competitions etc...
And many of these casinos look polished too! They for sure hired designers and programmers to work on backend and front end so their casinos looked the best. It's easy to uncover such scams, but they can still cause a lot of confusion and trick victims into parting themselves from their funds unfairly. That's why how established a platform is is also important when playing online.
1138  Other / Meta / Re: LoyceV's Topic Details: highlight deleted and edited posts (forum wide) on: July 13, 2020, 03:18:01 PM
Doesn't quoting the link re-trigger the scrapper? You might have killed it twice or thrice for good measure. Cheesy

Just kidding. LoyceV probably had considered the possibility. Wink
1139  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 💎 WixiPlay.io 💎 2,000,000,000 Bets 🎲 Giveaway 🎲 0.5 BTC Prize Pool on: July 13, 2020, 12:55:22 PM
How about fixing the provable fairness problems before starting a wagering contest?
There are ongoing allegations that the system on WixiPlay.io isn't adequately fair... You said the dev team will work on it, and in the meantime you start a contest where the participants would be subjected in actually using the current and potentially non-fair system?

Our dev team is working on the pf system once again, it will be completely changed, so we can end this problem once and for all.

You should have waited until after the fix at least...
1140  Other / Meta / Re: Notification on deleted threads on: July 13, 2020, 11:39:42 AM
I only recently learned there is a difference between trashcan and deletion. I think (but I'm not sure) that deleted topics do give a PM-notification.

This can definitely be improved Smiley
Looking at the post you've linked, I must say that based on what I have noticed, in most cases there will not actually be a redirection notice.
AFAIK SMF gives you the option to skip posting one by un-ticking a box. So having no redirection notice can't be but a deliberate choice of the staff member that has deleted each post.

Maybe forum staff, and more especially global forum mods, could should consider leaving a redirection notice up as part of their best practices for deleting topics.
I don't know why, but lately (and by lately I mean in the last few years) I've stopped seeing all that many redirection notices altogether. At least not as many as before. Is there some reason behind of that? Did redirection noticed become uncool suddenly for some reason? (Or is it just me?)

Edit: I also realize I could have just written "trashcanned" in the OP title instead of "deleted". I think the body of OP still explains what I meant well though so I'll probably leave it.
