1041  Economy / Gambling / Re: FrostBets.com launching soon on: August 13, 2020, 06:43:49 AM
Honest feedback for frostbets.com:
Good that you are using Bitcoin blockchain for proving fairness, but website looks very bad and low quality, and I would not use it for any kind of betting.
Better update it before launch.
Well to be fair from the information available it seems like a service to be offered in game for Classic Runescape. If you look at the graphics of this game, players aren't probably after flashy graphics but more about content.
And this thread is to verify a hash chain other than advertise. So I can't blame them for not having a flashy website. It's not like the game will be played there anyway. It just needs to be informative.

Interesting website. Is the data refreshed with every page reload?
Also another thing that would be interesting to know. How often do you draw new data?

Thanks for the release of such information.
I saw that wixi already admitted you were a mod so there's no denying in that.
I just hope you have some evidence for the other claims because something tells me they are going to deny it all.
1050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Sending in fake ID for KYC on: August 05, 2020, 03:15:36 PM
After reading the topic, I made the following conclusions. We shouldn't send fake documents, as we are breaking the law in this way. But the KYC check itself is also illegal, as it violates the basic principle of the crypto space - anonymity. But as a result, both things still happen.
You might be breaking tha law but unless the harmed party opens a case, falsification of documents doesn't also mean automatic prosecution. At least not in all jurisdictions.
I think the worst case scenario is that the exchange ceases to offer services to the perpetrator. Perhaps if the false documents were also combined to an individual trying to defraud the exchange or service itself, then a case is more likely to be opened. But otherwise I don't see a realistic way that the "illegal" part could be that serious. Exchanges get fake KYC all the time. They only care about it once they're told about it because they can't "knowingly" accept it. But even then, all they do is close the account for trading. These users that had fake KYC might try all over again.
1051  Economy / Economics / Re: Virgin Atlantic Goes Bankrupt, Bailouts? on: August 05, 2020, 03:07:44 PM
It's quite common for airlines to operate under very thin margins. Under these pretense, it's also important to remember that none of the airlines on a woldwide level were prepared for a pandemic. Many were betting on low fuel prices to continue and actually went on buying sprees for bigger and newer jets, as well as other investments.

For an airliner of the size of Atlantic, I think there will be some sort of bailout. Or at the very least there will be some leniency in terms of how the rights to foreign debitors are treated like in this case. But even in the worst case a bailout wouldn't bee too unlikely. Virtually every country has helped its biggest airlines in some way or another. Be it via legislation or even through direct funding.

At least I hope after the irresponsible of certain airlines that preceded, that any assistance given by states will also result in stock. Airlines in the past had been getting favorable treatment, more so than almost any other industry by the state. By essentially being provided with free loans. Italy in my opinion did the right thing by nationalizing Allitalia instead of giving it free money. Hopefully if things go south for Virgin Atlantic the state will get out of the transaction with something to keep.
1052  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitadress.org on: August 05, 2020, 02:38:48 PM
You should write a bit more about this case like for example what client you were trying to import the key to and what the error received was.
It's not very easy to help when it would practically require second guessing on what happened.
1053  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fortnite Betting? on: August 05, 2020, 01:13:43 PM
I see some contradictory statements here
Quote
With regard to electronic games simulating sports, the Summit sees great potential for cooperation and incorporating them into the sports movement
So the IOC is willing to be buddies buddies with those willing to licence their games for vidya, but won't bat an eye for eSports tournaments that draw millions in attendance and tens of millions in online audiences...

It's not an outright no to video games, but rather a no to video games they have no control over.
1054  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Netherlands pilot scheme to allow women to play in senior men's team on: August 05, 2020, 12:47:22 PM
I can imagine in a few years, prediction markets being called sexist because bettors put slimmer chances on teams with more females to win... That is, if a plan like the above is enacted.

Frankly, I see this as a stunt and not much more. Probably it'll stop once people are no longer interested. But allowing such possibility brings up an interesting and useful discussion. I think that it's important to remember that even feminists are for women's only league. The difference in the bodies between the sexes is noted and acknowledged. It's not considered a social construct as with many other things. Women's only league give women the opportunity to compete, creates extra employment and more opportunity for girls.
1055  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Question re buying and fees on: August 05, 2020, 12:30:31 PM
Sad to say if you bought with banks/credit/debit cards that is always the case aside from fees you are buying those coins at highest possible price, that is not a volatility issue, that is always the case if you are buying with credit cards. If you are not convince try other platform like binance. I have notice it on variuos platforms, like binance, Trustwallet, Blockchain wallet, etc. they are all the same, maybe that is their way so they could earn more from us.

EDIT: Just test binance now, their rate is more cr*zy look at that difference.
Card payments are seen as more convenient by many people that just don't know any better. And in some instances like for example in America, even domestic bank transfers can take long and often are quite expensive. So it can be convenient to pay a small levy and just get coins if you need them fast.

But for the merchant completing a large volume of card transactions, it is often that they face card fraud. So this is what makes cards really expensive for crypto, along with the bank fees of course. It's not always a good comparison.

Coinbase wallet also takes bank deposits, like a normal exchange. This should make buying with bank funds cheaper, but they apply the same fees.
1056  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Las Vegas Casinos are open - end of the Pandemic era. on: August 04, 2020, 11:59:25 PM
~ sooner or later, their economy's recovery will begin, and every people will have time to search for new jobs or back to their job and make money. We all hope that the next news will be about reducing the number of people who get infected, and the business starts to run and give the people a chance to work as before, but with a new rule.
Yes, it can make the economy be better gradually and people can work again as usual. But unfortunately, in some places, especially like in my country, new normal like today instead makes infected people difficult to separate from unaffected people. This leads to a new huge spread of Covid-19. I am worried that this won't work properly and makes the infected people multiply but it's not detected by us. What do you think mate? I still hope it cannot be another nightmare.
It is a common approach to believe that the "new normal" will also allow the economy to come back at its previous size. But that's based on the assumption that not much of the population would be affected after the main outbreak long term. First of all we aren't returning to any normal before widespread vaccination.

But also, if deaths weren't kept in check, and if long term health problems weren't able to be treated due to the health system being overloaded, then the economy is going to shrink even in the long term after vaccination. Better save lives in the long term if we ever want to see a good ending to the pandemic era, even for gambling. Especially given that many regulars at bricks and mortars casinos are high risk groups.
1057  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Space Race Wagers? on: August 04, 2020, 11:58:28 PM
I had to have a quiet chuckle when Elon Musk started babbling he's going to build a base on the Moon, then we're all off to Mars.  You could see his glib comments were spontaneous for the cameras.
Elong says many things that he probably is already aware that are impossible. He went on Joe Rogan's show talking about some thermodynamically impossible feats with rocket powered cars and such... Dude knows people pump and dump stocks based on shit he says. He hypes up things like the hyperloop while being perfectly aware that they are impossible to do.
His statements on mars are especially dumb if you ask me. Colonization of mars is definitely something too far out of our reach currently.
1058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Protect Your Account on: August 04, 2020, 11:52:01 PM
Also goes to show that PMs sent via bitcointalk shouldn't be considered very private.
A compromise in the account essentially means a compromise in its contents also.

End to end encryption is always best for messages that might be considered sensible.
To compromise a properly stored private key used for end to end encryption would require a full system compromise. Which is arguably harder than hacking a third party provider email address.

Aren’t there websites that delete a message after it’s been read?
Yes, sites like https://privnote.com/
Better yet there are apps like snapchat, Viber (timed message mode). Works better in a sandboxed environment like an android phone. But with snapchat there have been occasions where hundreds of thousands of supposedely deleted snap image messages were accessed from the platform's servers and celebrities were targeted. So non p2p solutions aren't perfect.

Even better there is the FOSS Off The Record (OTR) messaging which allows for deniable authentication from a certain party in a trustless and p2p way. Overall tons of better ways to message people other than PMs in a forum. Especially so if the goal is privacy.
1059  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why only Bitvest and 777Coin on: August 03, 2020, 11:27:55 PM
You shouldn't judge the profitability of a gambling site based on its signature campaign.
The profitability can only be studied if they are accepting investment in the bankroll in which case the house's profits have to be published.

But in terms of Bitvest/777coin signature campaigns in specific, the reason they're so long running is that they really don't pay that much. There have also been campaigns paying exceptionally well that have lasted a long time. These might have different purposes of spreading such large sums. For example, mixers. Each venture can have different purposes.
Other casinos might want to cease their signature campaigns once they feel they've gotten a stable user base that they're satisfied with. Or some might just want to allocate big parts of their budget on promotion and consider signature campaigns important. There really aren't many conclusions to be drawn for the service just based on how long a campaign runs.
1060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Stephen Wolfram" says bitcoin creator is known classified material on: August 03, 2020, 10:27:12 PM
Mr. Stephen Wolfram is a respectable scientist. But now at age 60, he spends most of his time promoting a commercial product, by his for-profit company.
Don't get me wrong, the product is also good and unique, serving an actual purpose.
But him posting from the corporate accounts of his company should be taken with a grain of salt. Any bold statements he makes are going to get him viewership.
I can only assume he's saying such things to drive more attention to the commercial product he's interested in promoting. If he was interested to publicize such statements for the interest of science he'd so it through other mediums.
