1141  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-09-02] Bitcoin is Really Fragile” – Bitcoin Core Developer Mike Hearn on: September 02, 2014, 03:08:43 AM
All these companies raising tens of millions of dollars need to start investing in the core protocol, have their developers spend, say, 20% of the time on the protocol as opposed to working solely on their products.
1142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Average Joe Thinks about Bitcoin and Altcoins on: September 01, 2014, 10:52:28 PM
People said the same when BTC hit $10, then $50, then $100, then $200, then $500, then $750, then $1000, then $1400

Yes and 99% of holders only buy into Bitcoin because it went $50, then $100, the $200, then $750, then $1000, then $1400  Smiley
True, and that needs to change. People need to see real value in using Bitcoin, not just as a better version of PayPal. Maybe the first fully autonomous robots will only interact with our financial world through Bitcoin, and then there will be value beyond what it is now!
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: was the "i'm not dorian nakamoto" post geniune ? on: September 01, 2014, 09:36:59 PM
there has been a fuss around the fact that many think its not him writing the "im not dorian nakamoto"
any news on that ?

also, do you think nsa has the ability to know who is satoshi nakamoto if nsa really wanted to know it ?

The NSA IS Satoshi Nakamoto. If not, then it's the CIA. I find it VERY hard to imagine that the governments would just say, "Oh, you want a currency we can't control? Sure, we'll make it legal for you to use it. We don't care about our power." They built it and made it look like someone else did it. It's the One World Currency.
How do you know it's the American agencies in your conspiracy theory?

1145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitsharesX is taking Litecoin and Bitcoin down on: September 01, 2014, 07:40:56 PM

Bitcoin still have more trust than all the altcoins out there.

For most investors and consumers who are in the know, all altcoins are still considered pump and dump coin.

Investors "in the know" are investing in legitimate new experiments such as BitShares, Nxt, and ethereum.  All of these are attempting to expand upon BTC with additional functionality.
Who are these "investors in the know"?
1146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitShares PTS (formerly ProtoShares) Cheat Sheet | CPU Mining on: September 01, 2014, 07:37:04 PM
Hey all

Have not followed PTS or BitsharesX happenings since last year.  I have some PTS, but what exactly do I have?  Does each PTS hold more value than just the going rate on the exchanges? Does it somehow entitle me to shares of DACs? If so, how/where do I view these holdings?

Thanks in advance for any info

You can check what you have at http://www1.agsexplorer.com (at balance menu enter your PTS address).
To redeem your BitShares BTSX read info here: http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/Bitshares-x-how-to
To redeem your LottoShares LTS read instruction here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=694341
Thank you very much for the reply!  I was surprised to find the PTS I mined and forgotten about - now I see I have BTSX and LTS as well...cool!
You'll have some MMC too, even if not worth a lot. Just FYI.

1148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reality check on alts on: August 30, 2014, 04:17:59 AM
BTC was going up.. towards the end of the rally alts starting out performing BTC on percentage basis. So I got greedy.

During the correction BTC only lost half its value. But alts returned to their base and many even much much lower.

There is always the flavor of the month with alts.. They rally then collapse, then the new hype comes along and repeat. There is nothing to stop market entry for alts, but BTC will always have first mover advantage. That history can't ever be changed.
Ah yeah I remember those days, around Nov-Dec last year and into Jan-Feb as well when alts were going crazy and every day a new alt would be up 100% and several up 1000% in a matter of days. It's funny in the world of crypto, BTC is the base/safest of them all, while the world views BTC as extremely volatile.
1149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reality check on alts on: August 30, 2014, 03:20:04 AM
I started investing in BTC when it was at $50. I accumulated 47BTC at a DCA of around $75.. After the huge rise to 1200, I got greedy and wanted to maximize my profit so invested most of my gains into alts. I now have almost completely lost it all. I will be 100% BTC moving forward other than the 4000 ETH that's locked in anyways until an unknown date if ever.

I got burned. it's BTC for me from here on out.
Why did you think that "investing" in alts would maximize your profit?
1150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitsharesX is taking Litecoin and Bitcoin down on: August 30, 2014, 03:17:00 AM

Ohhh come on dumpers... my wife needs to buy $2000 at about   0.000071 BTC/BTSX

What the hell is that? Have you no BTSX to prove your point, that Bitshares is a pump up scheme...

You truly disappoint me.

Now, I have to give her percentage of my own stack.  Sad

Did she buy? Smiley
Hah, I am curious too!
1151  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: AltoCenter: https://altocenter.com/ on: August 29, 2014, 12:09:11 AM
Since you ignored my earlier question, I would assume you're just another 'anonymous' exchange and a high probability of running away with the users' funds, after a "hack" in a few months? Is there any reason anyone should trust you with their money?
1152  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: CoinFest 2015 on: August 28, 2014, 04:25:27 AM
You should probably contact the New York Bitcoin Center. They do a lot of these events, and a good one in New York would be a nice win, IMHO.
We would love to see CoinFest spread to New York. The Bitcoin Fair there seemed interested for a little bit, but abruptly dropped contact. Is the Center likely to respond to me via the standard channels? Anyone with an "in" there could be very helpful to us.
Sounds great, I'll PM you a couple of contacts that I know.

Maybe, maybe not, I am not sure, but I don't buy this coin, no profit.

What ever happened to Microcash?

Whoa, why did you dig this up now? Did you have high expectations from this project? Smiley

1158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - *GOING PoS*NOBL/$USD*MARKETPLACE*52 CHARITIES/MERCHANTS* on: August 28, 2014, 03:42:07 AM
I've current got my eye on everything: Stats, theme switching, exchange markets (just in-wallet), coin control (a given), p2p encrypted messaging, stealth addresses (for these two we'll let the hype die down and not cause drama with the coins pushing those so as not to start trouble), more QR support. I like decentralized usernames and we're debating whether to keep transaction messages. I can handle half of those, the other half will be handled by partner developers.

We're not a fan of stuff in the wallet/on the blockchain for the sake of it just this early. Decentralized and 'on the blockchain' are great catchphrases but if the features/usability don't beat things like Magento/WooCommerce or Bittrex/Vault of Satoshi then it's just not ready to make a real difference for public consumption yet (I'm thinking years).

I believe in decentralization and p2peer but until a marketplace has this: https://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/magento-feature-list.pdf it just won't compete with centralization/fiat for a mainstream audience. I think OpenBazaar will get there but not for some time (we're keeping up to date and talking with an extra potential team member or two to have these more public this year). That can always be followed here: https://github.com/jlcurby/NobleRoad/commits. It's a little behind because to be honest the 100s of BTC thrown at UseCoin and other coins promising awesome decentralized 'marketplaces' (BS that turn into scams) while we suffer a little turned me off keeping it up to date for the time being. https://marketplace.noblemovement.com is still going strong and we'll be adding more digital products soon and doing further promo.

Our biggest problem right now and the reason for the delays/quiet period comes down to money. Money (or BTC) talks here and currently we have very next to none when compared to the coins/IPOs ('scams', misleading or otherwise) and groups making mega-bucks. Sure we're legit, honest, etc. but the NobleCoin approach in the altcoin space does not make noise or money. That's been prioritised now, and it might be a month or two until finalized, but some people in the altcoin sphere now have an idea on what I've been doing for a lot of this year. We'll be noticed soon enough.

Open Bazaar is nearer than you might think. I saw a demo in Raleigh recently, it's almost all working and the beta is next month with most good features. Might be a good idea to start thinking about a fork and supporting NOBL there, after the current development efforts for the PoS etc. have been completed.

How can the community help with the money?
1159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitsharesX is taking Litecoin and Bitcoin down on: August 28, 2014, 03:38:49 AM
As usual a good rise then a steady decline now let's see if this coin swims or drowns like so many before.
Too early in the cycle to conclude that. The price drop hasn't been THAT significant, like the pumps and dumps we have seen in the past. I think there are several catalysts on the positive upside still remaining, such as the opening up of the other BitAsset markets (BitBTC, BitCNY and BitGold being the major ones awaited). Plus, there are lots of improvements possible in the trading interface. Lets see if the price holds in a couple of weeks, should give a better idea, I think.
