1602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 02, 2016, 02:38:59 AM
Monero's decoupling from ETH.

I did notice this but can only surmise it is because of the large capitalization as it certainly isn't because of the tech. I really expected the opposite but once again I gave the masses more credit than they deserve.

first thing to learn in trading is that the market always right...  either due to the mass behavioral psychology or that it was wisdom of the  crowd, either way if you lose accept that you were wrong and learn more.
if you never accept that you were wrong then you will never learn.

I agree to a point. But I don't think they were ever really coupled to begin with. Look at that chart. What happened before November?

It looks to me like they both happened to go up at around the same time (Feb-Apr). That does not a coupling make.

Now listed on cryptopia. I'll keep this thread open a little while longer to see if there is still interest in OTC. If not I will lock it.

Thanks in advance to all who participated here!

1604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero GUI Wallet Release on: June 01, 2016, 08:23:15 AM
Wait - what ? Monero still does not have GUI Wallet ? I don't get it, there is CryptoNote's official implementation of GUI wallet (based on BTC Qt impl.) already back from 2015 (https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=609) - also Bytecoin's GUI wallet should be open sourced by now (didn't check that, but they said earlier in 2015, that they open source it in the future)...

A bitcoin Qt clone GUI didn't fit the project objectives. The screen shot above is from a brand new wallet implementation that was developed in 2014, then put on hold in 2015, then picked back up in 2016.

Anyway there have been 5 or more other Monero GUI wallets, including Qt based ones. They all worked at one time but nobody wanted to maintain them.
1605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake, a.k.a. "Clamcoin" on: June 01, 2016, 08:18:06 AM
what is a good size for an address, 50 clam, 100 clam or 500 clam?

15-30 seems to be the general recommendation.

It does not have to be different addresses, just different outputs. Every time you send coins you get a new output. You can send them all to the same address if you want, just break them up into multiple transactions. There is a command option for the in the CLI to do that for you, but I'm not sure about the GUI.

If you send coins from an address back to itself does that split your coins into multiple outputs? Can you do that or do you have to send coins from different addresses to a single address to get multiple outputs?

The address doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is the amount paid from each transaction. If you use coin control you can see the individual outputs even if they have the same address.

Another thing you can do is set the this option in your clam.conf file:

splitsize=15

Then the wallet will automatically split your outputs down to 15 when it stakes. That's all you need to do.

can someone explain me how this site work?
what is STEEM, steem power and steem dollars?
every new user will get 10 steem power, how to withdraw to "STEEM"?

Steem is just regular cryptocoins, but they are highly inflationary (about 100% per year), so you don't want to hold them long term; they are for trading.

Steem Power is locked Steem, and they earn interest, enough to offset most of the inflation. You need a minimum of 10 SP to open an account (which you can get for free by signing up on the web site or free/discounted via my offer a few posts back). SP gives you influence in voting and pays you rewards (in addition to the regular interest) based on the success of your votes. To withdraw SP to Steem so they can be traded takes place over two years, 1/104 per week.

Steem Dollars don't exist yet but they will be coins worth about one USD and pay interest. Half of rewards for posting and voting are paid in SP (giving you more influence), half in Steem Dollars. Posting and voting rewards accrue immediately but won't start getting paid out until July 4.

"To withdraw SP to Steem so they can be traded takes place over two years, 1/104 per week."
wow, so long..

Yes, the idea is that SP is sort of like your karma or reputation. It's supposed to stay with you long term and you can't just cash it out (quickly).

Rewards will be paid half in SP and half in Steem Dollars, and Steem Dollars are completely liquid. So once rewards start (July 4) if you are posting and voting effectively there will be liquid earnings you can cash out.

Edit: is this owned by the Steam Community, gaming and social meda site?? or it is another steammy thing?

Not related to Steam. It's not gaming related.

It is more like Reddit, but with a blockchain and rewards for posting and voting.

Anyone have any thoughts on the S9?  Should we wait until a price drop before purchasing?

https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=0002016052907243375530DcJIoK0654

I did some quick calculations and I thought it looked like a reasonably good offer. It ships June 12 so that's almost a month with the higher rewards, assuming reasonable shipping time. That's pretty significant.

Is Bitmain still good when it comes to fast shipping? I haven't bought from them in a long time. If you can't expect to get it hashing by mid June it might make sense to wait.
1609  Economy / Reputation / Re: CIYAM calls for an end to the bulls__t! on: June 01, 2016, 05:36:12 AM
The original intent was for NXT to have many different, disjointed developers creating their own clients.  This failed to materialize, I believe, because everyone relied on the "official devs".  All these "improvements" to the client and "official" organizations resulted in a catastrophe for NXT as an ideological platform and the market price.  NXT had its greatest success early on before these "official" organizations could materialize.  After they came to be, they resulted in NXT's slow and steady destruction.  NXT today isn't at all what BCNext intended.  If the NXT network was rebooted from the genesis block, the original 73 individuals could resell or hold their NXT.  The NXT would be extremely cheap like it was back in 2013, 1 million NXT for 1 BTC.  Those who believed in the original premise could very easily get in and those who didn't could get out.  The only thing I would like to see added to the original NXT program is support for I2P.

Why don't you just restart the damn thing then? Use the original 73 individuals or get together with 72 new ones. Can't really be that hard.

No need for discussion, just do it.

Or was there an issue with the original client not being open source and you can't use it?

Update: I'm reinvesting my post rewards from announcing the program on steem to provide more free and discounted accounts for established members.

Effective immediately:

Sr. and above: free
Full: 0.0025 BTC

my wallet said 19 hours to stake and that was 12 hours ago, not is says 16 hours to stake. is that normal?

should i have one big address or split up into small?

thanks

The time is always an estimate. Actual results may be higher or lower.

You should split up, but it won't make staking any faster, what it will do is make it faster to stake again after the first time.
1614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Steemit.com: Blogging is the new Mining on: May 31, 2016, 10:22:30 PM
steemit.com looks pretty sweet guys.  Are all of the 42,689,620 coins in the wild or are any held by the dev etc?

The steemit company (developers) owns a big chunk. They are slowly selling them off to pay for development and giving them away to new users (every new user account requires 10 STEEM in pre-funding to function). I'm not sure but I don't think this is included in the 43 mil.

I think Cryptopia will add it. They support Cryptonote and they are a smaller exchange which means they are more willing to add smaller coins. Poloniex and Bittrex have gotten too big to bother with them for the most part. Their developer was asking questions on the main Bitcedi thread too. But I could be wrong, I don't have any inside information.

Not sure why the thread got locked;

I think we all know why, but what I'm really interested in: Why would you "reopen" it?

I don't know why it was locked.
1617  Economy / Reputation / Re: CIYAM calls for an end to the bulls__t! on: May 31, 2016, 06:35:44 AM
NXT seems to be becoming dead day by day.  Is this why there's a faction in the NXT community that founded Waves?  Waves ICO is over 9M USD at today's BTC price...

Do they really need a reason? ICOs are hot now. Investors want to buy, so people will come up with something to sell.

Imo, NXT needs to be relaunched back from the original genesis block and start fresh.

Or just move on to something else. There is no shortage of alternatives.
1618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [BXC] Bitcedi OTC trading thread [bid 1000 ask 1450 last 1750] on: May 31, 2016, 06:33:57 AM
I am updating what my last offer from satoshi to USD because I have sold all of my bitcoin because it went up. So if anyone is willing I will pay $1 for 200 BXC OBO. Just pm me or email me at austin11rowe@gmail.com. Thank you.

we don't use fiat here, you need to pay in bitcoin, also paypal is chargeable, no one is going to bother to do any trade with that even with escrow

You are right that is problematic. I didn't read the whole post, and I assumed it meant pricing in USD but paid in crypto. On reexamination that doesn't look to be the case, so I'll remove the offer from the OP.

Or, it could become the defacto gambling coin if more mainstream sites start at least accepting it.

Yes.

In which case it is a buy right now.

What reason is there to think that will actually happen after say a year or so of it having been well established on JD and nothing of the sort happening?

1620  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Would you advise Friends or Family to invest in Altcoins ? on: May 31, 2016, 02:35:59 AM
I vote no.

If they are extreme speculators then they might be interested. Otherwise I don't introduce them to any of it and advise against it when (rarely) asked. Pretty much the same for Bitcoin BTW, though a small allocation in Bitcoin as a hedge against "I don't even know what but hedges are a good thing" isn't bad.
