It clearly did. Some people care, some don't. Make up your own mind.

Are there any independent witnesses of the non-anonymous type?

Credible verification from reliable sources?

Can anyone point me to a good link, legit review from CoinDesk etc.

The many sites I perused just regurgitate the Vcash party line.

Non-anonymous Greg Maxwell (gmaxwell on here) posted about some of it. I think some of the others who likewise posted (including possibly those quoted in the link reachable from my forum trust review of john-connor) may also be non-anonymous. Reliable? Who knows. It seems everyone in crypto is either a hero or a troll depending on who you ask.

I don't know if Coindesk has covered ever Vcash. If they have it quite likely would be a paid submission, and I say this not as a slam on Vcash but because Coindesk generally doesn't cover any of the smaller coins unless they are paid for it. (http://www.coindesk.com/press-release-submission/about/)

Did Vcash (formerly Vanilla) use Bitcoin code, even in part, without indicating that they did so?

It clearly did. Some people care, some don't. Make up your own mind.
1043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blowing the lid off the CryptoNote/Bytecoin scam (with the exception of Monero) on: September 14, 2016, 05:26:34 PM
Is it a coincidence that minergate.com have all this coins pools (AEON, DASHCOIN, Moneta Verde, QuazarCoin, FantomCoin, ByteCoin, Infininium-8, XDN)?

And some of their miner's exe files are marked as dangerous by antivirus (trojans with MS SE and Kaspersky). https://minergate.com/downloads/admin

Advertising on Minergate.com takes us to hitbtc.com and to DCT (new coin https://freewallet.org/currency/dct). Both suspicious for me. Especially freewallet.org which include orthographic errors even in press kit:
"Freewallet is a team of developers, who aim to solve the “last-mile” problem for cryptocurrencies by creating mobile-first cryptocurrency wallets. Starting from January, 2016 the team has developed and successfully released a number of cryptocurrency wallets, namely FanctomCoin Wallet, Ethereum Wallet, Bitcoin Wallet and Monero Wallet."

Had some clues on minergate so decided to register account on bitcoin forum to ask this question. Not sure if new thread should be opened.

Agree with you except on this point:

It is very common that miners are falsely flagged by AV. However, if one wanted to be paranoid that would make miners a good place to actually hide malware....
1044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 14, 2016, 08:19:53 AM
edited to add - its obviously more complicated than that, and you'd have to compile your own code or connect your modded simplewallet to a remote daemon that has a lowered fee...... but this is all doable.

Correct and it doesn't require a hard fork as suggested earlier in the thread. It is convenient to make these sorts of changes coincident with a hard fork simply because that encourages everyone to upgrade and support the lower fees, but it is not absolutely necessary.

1045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: September 14, 2016, 08:15:42 AM
Still waiting for an upgraded GUI wallet...

Either that, or a client that will find seed peers.
Can't get that wallet to work.
Do i need to add a configuration file?

Does anybody have an active node list (or at least a link to an active nodelist), I'm sure that will help. Looks like the OP is no longer around - so likely the nodes in the client are not either.

I would suggest trying minergate support. They can possibly point you to a working node.

I am a steemit username and I hope it will go on the uptrend now. but, not sure how to keep up the 100% yearly increases.

If you are powered up the 100% annual inflation does not apply to you. There may still be inflation (depending on the portion of the money supply powered up) but it will be much, much less than 100%

the developers do not communicate, so market volume diminishes...

is there any development going on in aeon?  Huh

I'm part of the Monero core team as well as the lead developer for AEON. The current AEON roadmap involves rebasing on Monero's upcoming release. I'm currently working with the rest of the Monero team to finalize the new release. After that, work will commence on the AEON rebase. This is not very far in the future, although I certainly understand that people would prefer that everything be done yesterday.

When requesting identical transfers repeatedly within a brief time (e.g., one minute), while declining to confirm each time, I've seen large ranges of proposed fees (e.g., 0.03 to 0.20). Is this normal behavior? Is there a better way to reduce fees (for a given amount and mixin) other than trying repeatedly?

On a related point, it seems possible to reduce total transfer fees by manually breaking a transfer into multiple smaller transfers. Is there a good way to select transfer amounts to reduce fees?

It has to do with which outputs are chosen for the payment (the wallet chooses mostly randomly). If larger ones are chosen, fewer of them are needed, and the fees will be smaller. But....this means that smaller ones are left unspent in your wallet and future payments will be more expensive. So it is either pay now or pay later. In this particular instance it probably does make sense to pay later since the rise in XMR value means fees will likely decline in the future. But most of the time it is more irrelevant and not really a priority to control it directly. Also, things will change a lot with RingCt when there are many fewer outputs to choose from.
1049  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 09, 2016, 06:36:04 PM
It doesn't support anonymity on the protocol level so you can do the same thing in Bitcoin. On top of that there was a huge pre-mine instamine

FIFY. Truth in scamming is important.
1050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH Collapsing Monero UP on: September 09, 2016, 12:20:55 AM
monero is the most private, block size is not an issue and blockchain pruning would work well for an anon currency anyway!

Only thing i dont like about monero is the transaction size, most of my mined stuff is worthless because of the micro payments made to me by the pool.

I would imagine the micro payments have nothing to do with monero, but simply the pool software/settings/payment policy.

Yeah but why should the small transactions cost so much to make?

My total of Monero in my wallet is almost worthless because the fees to consolidate the small payments into full coins is almost worth the monero itself.

Now with bitcoin, if i had tons of micro payments made to my wallet, i dont have to do that at all, my wallet sees it joined together.

Bitcoin works the exact same way. When you receive many small payments, the transactions to spend it are much larger and cost more.

S-CON has been liquidated. All who owned S-CON received 1 m + 10 CK per share.

S-CKG will be handled via a more complex liquidation process relatively soon, but for now is a free trading corporation asset (holdings of the corporation can be seen ingame; link below), as is S-HODL. All conversions and redemptions are suspended.

Thanks. I do this in the console of the wallet?

If I want to send from an exchange to my wallet, do I need a payment ID from my wallet also?
You can sent from exchange to wallet without payment ID.
Payment ID only needed when sending to exchange, so it can distinguish your payment from others, sent to the same address.

Small correction. Needed when sending to an exchange or any other service with a shared wallet.

Not sure we have any right now, but still important to understand when it is needed.
1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 07, 2016, 04:20:56 AM

It has been well over 24 hours and no shares have been GIVEn to smoothQC. Thus it appears on one wants to participate in the auction and it is cancelled.

Was waiting for more details before deciding--not about the auction, but if you would participate yourself.

I'll repost this here:

If anyone wants to be included in the auction, GIVE your shares to smoothQC. Any shares so GIVEn will be relisted on the market (details tbd) at a declining price until fully sold. Proceeds will be divided proportionately among participants. Submitting period will be open for 24 hours from this post.

By "tbd" there, I meant and mean, starting price and rate of decline. I had no idea of the state of the market and I still don't. Presumably others don't either, which in part explains the need for an auction. So when the time comes to list shares I will determine appropriate details.

I don't plan to participate. I'm (both directly and via various entities) the largest shareholder of smoothQC. Any action on my part would be a major restructuring. By contrast, I see this auction as being a convenient way for smaller shareholders who wish to liquidate/exit to do so.

Call for shares will reopen for 24 hours.

Once again >24 hours and no shares have been given, so there will be no auction.

I have created a buy(back) wall for all remaining shares at 100000m. I am reasonably confident this is a bad deal for the sellers, but if they want out, they're welcome to get out.

Hey created an article and posted a week ago and i was trying to edit few of the lines in there but wasn't able to.
Can you guys tell me how to edit an article I've posted? Was a bit worried because I wanna add some of what I wrote which is basically important. please help.

The edit window is for the first 24hrs. Then it's fixed for eternity...

I think the 24 hour lock was unintended and will be changed to 30 days. Probably won't be retroactive though.

Other than that the only thing you can do is post a correction as a new post.

Imagine a scenario where a "celeb" top-earning author, bags 1000$ per day, and then decides to edit his old posts and remove his content because he had a lame disagreement with someone.

He's now bagged 29-30k over a month for pages that now look like

title: Deleted
content: blank

...I've seen various events like that happen in forums, where members would rage-delete old posts.

Either way it is in the release notes for the upcoming update that it is being changed to 30 days.

I'd prefer to see all the old versions accessible like wikipedia but that requires development effort and probably isn't a priority. They're still accessible using a blockchain explorer.

Deleted for using red and also for "SELL SELL SELL" (not substantive)

Huge dump going on

EVERYONE SELL SELL SELL AS LONG AS YOU CAN

1056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 06, 2016, 10:51:00 PM
One question: What is the maximum amount of XMR one should safely hold in a mymonero web wallet? I have most of my holdings in there and now they're worth a reasonable amount, I'm getting a little sketched out. Transfer to paper wallet maybe?

Whatever you need for routine spending IMO. No web wallet can be 100% secure.

Best is to transfer to your own paper wallet or (if you need spending access) a conventional wallet on your own well-secured computer/media.
1057  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 06, 2016, 12:32:56 AM
I noticed this:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/volume/24-hour/

1   Poloniex   XMR/BTC   $23,586,600   $606.30   30.12%
2   itBit      BTC/USD   $8,525,400   $606.49   10.89%
3   BTC-E      BTC/USD   $3,590,960   $602.95   4.58%
4   Bitfinex   BTC/USD   $3,004,960   $611.83   3.84%
5   Poloniex   ETC/BTC   $2,404,090   $606.30   3.07%

Poloniex XMR/BTC is by far the highest volume trading pair in all of crypto (not counting sham zero-fee exchanges). No way to escape that XMR trading must have some effect on BTC, not just the other way.

Having issues getting claymore GPU to work - CPU miner is working fine. GPU activity never exceeds 64% Submits low diff shares when it does. Any pointers?

EDIT* Driver issue caused Low usage - Still submitting Low Diff shares though ...

Did claymore ever add Cryptonight-lite support?

This coin might not be supported by Claymore at all.

is this still a mine-able coin or dead one. i can see the price on bitrx on 25k sats which is pretty high may be cause of xmr's fame ??

Still perfectly mineable. 100% PoW
