8361  Economy / Speculation / Re: Paul Krugman Effect on: September 09, 2011, 11:30:23 AM
what a "monetary system" was before the invention of bitcoins.

Jesus F. Christ, the megalomania of some people never stops to amaze me. The monetary system before bitcoin? Really? Bitcoin has already changed all of that?

There have been smaller money systems than bitcoin. Bitcoin is in an early phase, but it is global. Some people don't think it is revolutionary, yet. Time will reveal to them what the geeks already believe.

Do I sell my bitcoins before or after I spend my gold, baseball cards, and beanie babies?
8364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Extreme bitcoin price fluctuation? on: September 08, 2011, 11:59:18 AM
The two main criticisms of bitcoin are that it will be cracked and the large size of the block chain. The first is a technological one that will take a major breakthrough in math or computation speed. The latter is something that can be solved by engineering and re-structuring the bitcoin network. The solution may be easier to implement with an entirely new algorithm, but the current one can probably be kludged and work just fine. If the new one works better, that doesn't mean that the old one will die, it just means that the original bitcoin will serve a different function.
8365  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Value is Irrelevant on: September 08, 2011, 02:23:05 AM
The "real" economy:
You buy TV with a stolen credit card
Seller has bought it off the back of a truck, also claimed expenses on tax forms
TV manufacturer claimed double on insurance report and used child labor paid with (unnamed Asian currency)
and so on...
8366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Video Conference & Bitcoin This Weekend in NYC- Mozilla Foundation on: September 07, 2011, 02:57:11 AM
Streaming content, micro-payments, and bitcoin. Sounds like Mozilla can make a big play here.
8367  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: September 07, 2011, 12:26:48 AM
These are lovely, but how do we know that the manufacturer doesn't keep a copy of the keys and will spend them if they get very valuable?
[EDIT] I will probably buy some of these because bitbills has been MIA for awhile.
8368  Economy / Speculation / Re: It makes no sense, but I'm holding. on: September 06, 2011, 11:37:17 AM
Email came out in '71, was that a bad idea too because it took so long to catch on? It takes awhile for new technology to catch on. The public must be educated about bitcoin. I have been online since '83, but did not have WWW access in my region until 1994. It's not that the internet was a bad idea, it just took awhile for it to be available. Bitcoin is nowhere near ready for John Q. Public.
8369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who else sold out? on: September 06, 2011, 11:20:41 AM
I will start reselling Bitcoin to friends and acquaintances when I have a simple off-line solution for printing key pairs as QR codes. BTW, what happened to bitbills?

Thought control is easy with broadcast communication, but not so easy on the internet. The internet is allowing exponential access to the sum knowledge of mankind. Those that choose to use it for that purpose will have the lenses and filters that allow them to see beyond the edges of known reality.

Alex Jones would never have gotten a following without the internet. Propagating stupidity is very possible with the internet

Just because he's paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get him.  Cheesy

IOW, the 'scalability problem' is not a bug, it's a feature  Grin
8378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who else sold out? on: September 04, 2011, 11:35:32 AM
Bitcoin technology is so appealing and addicting I can't possibly imagine "loosing faith". In fact, it's not about "faith", it's about understanding the underlying technology and intrinsic advantages.

+1 As long as developers are still working on improving bitcoin, I see no reason to turn away.
8379  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin client took BTC. on: September 04, 2011, 10:50:34 AM
the client said the transfer is to big "or in some sorts like this

I get that on my android app if I forget to put in a transaction fee integer of 0. It doesn't like .00
8380  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why aren't more people buying bitcoins? on: September 04, 2011, 01:57:05 AM

Alternate blockchains would be fools-bitcoin. Actually, the 21M BTC can be infinitely divided to assure endless supply of value as demand increases.

Pft...

Bitcoin is fools-bitcoin.

I use the term as in a false bitcoin, unless you know of a crypto-currency in use before Nakamoto's bitcoin.
