7401  Economy / Speculation / Re: How deep you are ready to go? on: January 10, 2012, 01:35:59 AM
2012 will be the year Bitcoin finds its footing. If you aren't buying and holding, someone else is.
7402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Amir Taaki (genjix) on Max Keiser on: January 10, 2012, 01:24:55 AM
I watched an impressive argument against SOPA and internet censorship today by Amir on Max Keiser on RT. Bitcoin is back and Max is in the fray. Hopefully someone will find a recording link.
7403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Development History (Video) on: January 10, 2012, 01:12:48 AM
Without understanding the details, even I can see there is a lot of evolving going on that is making Bitcoin something wonderful.
7404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [It's here] The Second Bitcoin Whitepaper on: January 06, 2012, 10:48:56 PM
I've been wondering when someone would write this. Is there now a general consensus of where Bitcoin is going?

7406  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What problems does bitcoin really solve? on: January 04, 2012, 02:03:11 AM
You can't choose facts. So, it's not so much that we need to solve a problem. Discovery is more about creating problems that didn't exist before as much as solving old problems.
The more you know.

What do you mean by "You can't choose facts."? I can't? You can't? One can't? There aren't any to choose from?

So what has been discovered via bitcoin that wasn't already known? What non-trivial problems has it created?

All good questions. If I knew what is not yet known, I would be prescient. Science rejecting the useless facts is how we find the solutions to problems whether we have already discovered them or not.

Bitcoin is not just money. It is also a fundamentally new instrument for measuring social interactions. You have to wonder what the inventor of the microscope thought he might discover.

This discussion is too deep to continue until I get some beers.
7407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy birthday! on: January 04, 2012, 01:25:18 AM
I have a feeling that flight Bitcoin is still taxiing down the runway. Maybe year four will fire up the engines.

7409  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - The most advanced Bitcoin Client in existence! on: January 03, 2012, 09:21:10 AM
Looks great. This client adds some polish and ease that will get attention. I hope this trend in developing tools like this really catches on.
7410  Economy / Speculation / Re: How big a share of bitcoins should a person keep for hedging purposes? on: January 03, 2012, 09:04:24 AM
For the long term I suggest at least 1 Bitcoin. It's like a lottery ticket, either Bitcoin will be worth a lot or it will fail. Either way, it's not a big risk.
7411  Economy / Speculation / Re: New bitcoin nodes popping up in Asia on: January 03, 2012, 01:47:39 AM

Yup, sounds a lot like the e-gold fiasco.

I know this is hard for you or anyone else who has already 'made up their mind about [me]' to understand, but when I first saw this thread I wanted to say "I am so sorry for your loss". Do you know why I didn't? Because I also immediately thought about what a good scam this would be.

It is not an issue of not having a heart, it's an issue of having a loud brain. Turn yours up and I'll turn mine down.
In case you missed it. There is a photo of a smoke damaged computer that suspiciously looks like a bitcoin miner.

Why infinite growth is a ridiculous concept born out of ignorance.

Exactly, but I would settle for even half of infinite growth.  Cheesy

"An act to criminalize private issue IOUs managed electronically through a cooperative authentication system" is a phrase coming to a bill near you.

I see fascism in your future country, now give me back my crystal ball.

FTFY. Must be a hindsight crystal ball.

Couldn't you just send a private key with an amount assigned via email? QED.

But not to worry, when society collapses and the zombie apocalypse is upon us, the internet will somehow still be working so we can trade our valuable Bitcoins with each other  Grin

Zombies need internet porn too.

I can't imagine what codec you are using. I've had real-time digital video editing since 1996. Trading drive space for compression is rarely worthwhile and you should use the least compression possible to avoid artifact concatenation or in your case extreme rendering times just to avoid loss. Drive space is cheap nowadays and your final rendering to the distribution media should be the last step and should go pretty fast if you use youtube's codec.

Sure. Gold was confiscated by FDR in 1933. That's not necessarily a bad thing if we use Bitcoin to back the economy through official govt channels.
7420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Decentralization of Bitcoin vs. centralization of exchange market on: December 28, 2011, 01:08:00 AM
Basically, the exchanges follow the price history of mtgox. Mtgox is the fiat authority for major fluctuations. Because price is what "we" want it to be, it is mostly psychological. I have been advocating for a statistical base for price averaging as a psychological factor in price reporting. Because Bitcoin is math based, I feel it's only fitting to have math serve to buffer the price from wild swings rather than depend on mtgox.
