7441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying physical gold - another killer application for bitcoins? on: December 22, 2011, 12:49:31 PM
The same could be said for guns. Just saying.
7442  Economy / Speculation / Re: 12 million ppl will hear about bitcoin very soon on: December 22, 2011, 12:37:11 PM
My opinion is that shows like these are not to promote idealism, but to start the drumbeat to war. Bring it on.
7443  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Now Here: Casascius 1000 BTC Fine Gold Coin on: December 21, 2011, 12:38:43 PM
Very nice, but doesn't the very existence of these threaten the adoption of Bitcoin? Two years ago you could have made a 1 Million BTC coin and all 7 of you would now enjoy Bitcoin trading. There is a need for physical Bitcoin, but where do you draw the line?
7444  Economy / Services / Re: I will do anything for bitcoins on: December 21, 2011, 03:26:38 AM
Post photos of yourself doing crazy things that nobody else would do. Maybe people will donate for your mental healthcare! Hell, you could make a youtube page full of stunts in the spirit of the late Ryan Dunn.
7445  Other / Off-topic / Re: South Park: The Bitcoin Episode on: December 21, 2011, 03:21:09 AM
Aw c'mon! Mr Hankey is not a troll, he is the spirit of xmas. He is full of cheer and joy. But he only comes once a year, so he must be an old guy.  Wink

7446  Economy / Economics / Re: FRB and Bitcoin on: December 21, 2011, 02:15:13 AM
Fractional reserve is possible in the bitcoin world, but a central bank capable of conjuring coins is not.  Deposit insurance may be possible, but probably would not be practical.  Banking in bitcoin will probably always be very nearly 100% depositor risk, which means that a bank offering high interest to depositors will automatically be highly suspect.  And since the bankers will not be able to offer unlimited spending to the politicians to buy laws favorable to them, fractional reserve will very likely be seen as outright fraud.
[bold emphasis added]

This is an emergent property of this new paradigm. Modern monetary alchemists have produced arcane financial concoctions far beyond the banking system's quaint 10:1 FRB trick. Leveraging in big business is orders of magnitude beyond what exists at you local mortgage lender. Bitcoin can indeed be used to create new financial vehicles every bit as powerful and probably much more so than anything existing today. OpenTransactions is an example of what is only the beginning of powerful, yet transparent financing.
7447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buyer Beware. Proposal for a non high-frequency manipulatable exchange. on: December 21, 2011, 01:25:33 AM
I believe that HFT pump and dump bots cause the instability of Bitcoin price. Why don't we just make Bitcoin a decentralized fiat currency with greater stability?

good question... but how ?
Even though it is decentralized, Bitcoin does have an authority with the ability to impose its price. Math itself can set the price. I've proposed this several times before that we should statistically analyze the variance of price and predict its value as a mean. A reported price this way will serve as a psychological dampener to the volatility.

I will not comment any further here on the Libertarian position. I'll let their track record speak for itself. If you take this personally, that's your problem. I really don't even understand why this thread is here. It should be moved to a politics section.

I don't care what you think about the Libertarian position and that isn't why I bothered to post. A guy makes a thread about running for an office and you come in and make a snide comment about the party he chose. It stinks of troll to me.

Fortunately the mods took care of that by splitting your post and the resulting responses from the thread.

OK, fine if you just want to attack me personally and not answer my questions, I can't force you. I've scanned your history of posts and find nothing thoughtful, helpful, or even interesting to me. You seem like a reasonably educated young man, but you are getting into matters that are beyond your experience. You called me a troll without justifying yourself. You did not apologize or even delete your post. Welcome to the ignore bucket.

P.S. I did not create this thread and would prefer it to be closed.
7450  Other / Politics & Society / Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians on: December 20, 2011, 12:56:57 PM
I don't really want to bother with you but if you weren't being cynical* with a response like this, then I'm at a loss.

Libertarian Platform - Screw you, I do what I want.

And I didn't find anything else from your post to be worthy of merit or even discussion. I suppose you could say the same of mine, but at least I have a purpose other than "shitting on someone's parade".

Did you feel your post required interpretation? I didn't so I won't try.

7451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Easy Tax Chain on: December 20, 2011, 05:07:10 AM
Taxes can also be assessed by requiring green or whitelisted address registered with the state. Outside the country, the currency can be spent tax free, but will need to be re-registered and taxed when brought back and spent.
7452  Other / Politics & Society / Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians on: December 20, 2011, 04:23:03 AM
I have chosen the Libertarian ticket because I believe that Libertarian principals are essentially correct (especially in regard to the federal government), and it is by far the biggest and most organized of the third parties in the United States, making it the most viable party to launch competitive national level candidates.

Democratic Platform - Let's talk about what's good for everybody.
Republican Platform - You do what I tell you to do, because I know what's best.
Libertarian Platform - Screw you, I do what I want.

Anyone ever call you a troll?

Cuz uhh... your post here fits the definition to a T. At least according to what I've read: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=trolling

I don't understand. Please be more specific. Show me and the studio audience exactly what about my post you feel is it trolling and to whom you think it is specifically targeted, as per the definition you sullied proffered. For extra points, please add how you interpret the post.

In case you missed the irony of your comment, the sarcasm was not lost on either party.
7453  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who was in charge of stabilisation!? on: December 20, 2011, 03:55:52 AM
*yawn* You guys are speculating about a few bitcents change in price. Wake me up when Bitcoin is at least in double digits.
7454  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Self replicating 3d printer chain! on: December 20, 2011, 02:22:01 AM
RepRap has been around since 2004. RepRap is an amazing open source project that someday everyone will know about. Bitcoin and RepRap have a lot in common. In fact, it's their common emergent properties that will allow them to work well together. I've wanted a 3D printer since the late 1980s. RepRap is close to making a good affordable desktop model, but the quality still has a way to go.
7455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just sent this message to wikipedia on: December 20, 2011, 01:30:01 AM
Bitcoin is still pretty small potatoes. Giving them to big charities is kinda like tipping with loose change. Save your Bitcoin for the unique things for which it was designed. Bitcoin will have its day and naysayers will one day regret not accepting them sooner.
7456  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin scratch-off game on: December 20, 2011, 01:11:46 AM
This is not a bad idea... WHat are your methods you are using to create the scratch-offs and preventing light viewing?
I haven't researched light viewing so much yet. I'm still not sure it is legal to sell games like this even for charity in the US. I'm sure that the scratch off material itself is very light proof. The cards I'm making are just a mock-up for fun. This project requires production methods not available from traditional scratch-off printing services. I'll need a customized design and strict protocols will need to be followed. This can be done on a small scale easily enough, but it's very labor intensive. I know what I want to make it work and scalable, but have limited resources at the moment for development. I'm not in a big hurry, because the Bitcoin tools are still too immature.

What I hope to do is get local business to sell these games on behalf of charities. Winners would be able to redeem them anywhere, even at home. People can have parties playing these games and shop online with their winnings. My only real issue is its legality. It's a little too much like lottery games even though in many US states Bingo is legal for charity purposes.

Thanks for posting the videos. They look and sound great.
7458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin TV episode CONFIRMED!!! on: December 20, 2011, 12:04:30 AM
I hope this is a complete slam against Bitcoin. I hope they take all the ridiculous hyperbole and attempt to show Bitcoin as the currency used by the Axis of Evil.
Then I want to see a Bitcoin episode on.............................................     South Park!!!
7459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin TV episode CONFIRMED!!! on: December 19, 2011, 09:11:20 PM
Somehow I get the feeling this is going to bring FUD to a whole new level.

[Edit] OTOH any publicity is good publicity. I hope the real Satoshi can stay hidden after this spotlight.
