1126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Getting a loan to build mining rigs? on: January 27, 2014, 09:27:58 AM
always deduct 50% from coinwarz and similar, so 3.5 months
don't trust one altcoin. think about middlecoin or hashco.ws, effectively these are btc pools
make sure the early payback clauses on your loan aren't too harsh
follow scrypt asic development. this may just change electricity usage in 3-9 months or may change everything
lot of time involved tweaking cgminer, reinstalling drivers
otherwise +1 to previous members' posts
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good name for a coin? on: January 27, 2014, 08:49:22 AM
I call one of my coins "House"
another is "swimming pool, tennis court and five acre rose garden"
there's the obligatory 'lambo'
'trophy wife'
'2nd home in arizona'
etc
the dust i sometimes call 'charity'
1128  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Aliexpress on: January 27, 2014, 07:55:39 AM
best advice as the guys implied is not to buy from aliexpress. there's a thread here somewhere... There seems to be one reliable seller on there called sinosigma or something. if you make sure you're really dealing with them, not some guy using their photos...

suggest you don't order an avalon clone as china is all but closed for the holidays.

if you're desperate, talk to forum member ninelives at mininghardware.co.uk

Thanks Augusto. Is there anywhere that lists real ASIC manufacturers vs SCAM sites? Would be a great resource because the ratio isn't very healthy.

in short, no, not that I know of.

in practice, there were two useful threads until a few weeks ago, the scam list: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=366659.0 , but this has not been updated;

and the newbie guide to asic vendors https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=403459.0 which has a slightly different intent.

a great web resource is http://bitcoinscammers.com/ which shows some of the latest scams

and nothing really takes account of the new wave of avalon clones and bitmine chip machine makers, some of which are real, and some scams

so there is something for someone to do (hint)

1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Convert altcoins to BTC or sit on them? (poll) on: January 25, 2014, 08:47:52 AM
convert 95%, keep tiny% of fave coins that they happen to be mining, buy 5% litecoins, rest other fave coins

10k is no reach. it will get there if nothing really happens in the next few years.

Tried contacting James...going to wait until Monday in case he's in a coma or some stupid shit...then I'll post his info I have on him right here so everyone can attempt to make contact...the website was working not that long ago, then I saw an "account suspended" announcement on the site which is when I attempted contact.  Now the site says it no longer exists...

he has not responded to any attempts I have made to contact him so like I said...Monday at noon, eastern time...his info that I have will be made public...I only get burned once, then shit goes down...

that escalated quickly

he posted to his group buy thread

1136  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED]#KN-R001 3TH/s Neptune KnCMiner, ord. #K27-BFYW-014072, PAID on: January 24, 2014, 08:24:51 AM
I'm hoping it's just a late payment, But Solarwindmining.com is now suspended.  James, could you reassure everyone?

Yea, the payment snuck up on me while I was attending to other issues, I am working on resolving the payment with the hosting service.

Just a quick update, here is a copy of a reply to a PM sent to me by one of the Neptune GB members:

Quote
Hey! Sorry it has taken so long to get back with you, I have been working on several projects and I am still trying to sort out the openCart ordering system errors. It seems that some orders weren't counted by the shopping cart even though I did receive the payments. It's hard to tell what orders go with what payment due to this issue. Shares might also have been oversold by a few, but I should be able to provide everyone with the promised GH/s plus most of the announced hash rate increase that is expected from KnC with the Neptune.

As far as new shares, I am trying to get together with the other members in the The Wasp Project Collective to start building wasps for the company mining farm. I am not sure of the of the pricing atm but I will be offering shares for GH/s for this. Aren't you also a member with WPC? Anyway, that's my current focus unless you have a specific miner you would like to suggest.

On the shipping date, KnC hasn't announced specific dates. Our Neptune is in Batch #1 which is just after the previous customer Batch. So, it is likely that the Neptune will be shipped around March. Other than that, I can't really say.

Let me know if you have any other questions, Thanks!

emphasis mine. yes you should. so happy about this reversal of policy. shares should be proportional to actual hashrate not expected

yay let's go wasp
1137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ntek 1.2th/s miner? on: January 24, 2014, 08:05:50 AM
Bitmine are sending chips or wotnot to the dreaded AMT, probably/possibly. To Wasp Project, certainly. Are they sending to others?
1138  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Risk in buying top-dollar ($9K) ASIC? on: January 24, 2014, 07:53:14 AM
I'm sure you weren't. hey I point my 7970 at [Suspicious link removed], as I'm lazy about altcoins. wish you luck

Thanks for the advise about hashco, it's just what I was looking for! I was using middlecoin but I didn't like how I was forced to convert to BTC. Hashco also looks like an actual website as opposed to a notepad document  Tongue. I'll give hashco a try overnight and see how I do.

However, I currently only have a BTC wallet and if I want to start banking altcoins I will need other wallets. Is there any programs out there that propagate all of your various alt/bitcoin wallets into one program or do I need to get one program for every altcoin I want to bank?

Also, to machinationus, I actually don't pay my electricity bill. I live in an affordable living complex and electricity is paid for. I suppose I could potentially increase the rent for the whole complex if my GPU juiced it that bad, but electricity is definitely not a concern for me (lucky, I know Grin) and my PSU is 80+ Bronze for what it's worth.

give hashcows longer than that to compare fully.
don't think there's a good multi-alt wallet yet.
you're wise enough to run every alt wallet in a virtual machine/sandbox...

To Railzand,
hi there,i have got NZ PR,and I love her very much as my second home country. Auckland is mor e suitable for Asian people, esp. Howick. I just thought Oz is larger and prosperous,so want to move there to widen my views and seek chances.

I was just being stupid. Actually I'm very envious of you youngsters with the hutzpah to seek new horizons. Both are the most marvellous countries. That's fascinating about Howick. Thirty years ago Vancouver was the place for Asians to go. Good luck to you and op
