I believe hilarious said they get paid proportionally to their activity/reports dealt with, so I wouldn't worry about unfair compensation. I would assume he notified the rest of the staff before taking a leave of absence. Even if he didn't, 3 weeks isn't that long, sometimes you just need take a break from the forums, not a big deal unless it lasts more than a month or two.

edit: Hilarious beat me by a minute, pretty much the same thing he said.

That's a five-day-old account.

omg... just invest some time before writing something stupid...

From that thread:

Weird, bitspill is a Hero Member too.

This reflects very poorly on your judgment skills if you actually believe that is a message from the real IronMarvel.
603  Economy / Services / Re: [Bounty] 0.5 bitcoin in total for completing a simple exchange tutorial on: January 20, 2015, 03:36:31 AM
Hi all,

One of my friends is opening some business related to Bitcoin, while his customers need some tutorials about using the exchanges. However, it's a bit difficult and time-taking to pass the exchanges' verification, so he would like to ask some guys that already have accounts to complete a simple tutorial.

It should contain text and screenshots about:
1. Register an account
2. Deposit fiat money to the exchanges
3. Buy & sell bitcoin
4. Withdraw fiat money

The exchanges in the list are:
1. Bitstamp
2. btc-e
3. Coinbase
4. kraken
5. itBit
6. Bitfinex
7. ANX
8. CaVirtex

Please pm me if you're interested, remarking the exchanges that you choose. For each exchange, I'll send you 0.5/8 = 0.0625 bitcoin.

Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure if I'm interested yet.
If you are able to do escrow, you might get more response.

Thanks for your attention.
An escrow is quite necessary - you're right. But as I'm doing this the first time, could you please tell me how to look for some guy to do the escrow?

Here is a good list of forum escrows.
604  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam accusation against... Myself and my partner on: January 20, 2015, 03:26:48 AM
The ponzi that I will use to regain funds is going up in an hour. For the investors who want their funds back, please support me in getting your money back. If a trusted user (quickseller could be used) could give me their address to be used as a fees wallet (to hold fees to pay back) that would be fantastic. I probably will have more trouble getting investments if you keep shouting me down, so if you want your monewy back please try to help.
I do not act as escrow. I am not willing to risk my personal funds in the unlikely event that the bitcoin is somehow stolen, not do I want to put in the time/effort into repaying victims for a scam that I warned people against getting into.
No personal funds are risked, just generate a new address and hold the fees. Hold them until you get enough to pay back investors, do something good for the community.

Many people here seem to assume that acting as escrow is without risk. It isn't, escrow is responsible for paying out of their own pocket if they somehow lose access to the funds they have been entrusted with.

Unsurprising, since this has been pretty obvious for a while, at least there is solid proof now.

Hi,

I would appreciate if someone could provide a list of staff members,

I am being consistently harrased and abused by a few members of the forum who wont stop PM'ing me with abuse and slander and posting in my self moderated thread when I have asked them not to.

I would like to report these individuals.

Thanks in advance

You should report them directly to a staff member through the "report to moderator" button in the bottom right if you feel they break the rules.
607  Other / Meta / Re: Requesting CanaryInTheMine to Remove redsn0w from his trust list on: January 17, 2015, 02:00:57 PM
@Johny Depp ,

Can I ask you what is your first/original account ?  I don't want to "discuss" with an alt-account.  However if you will read all the thread I think you will find the "answer".

How about you list out all your alts with which you are building your trust. Check my trust list, I have not exchanged +ve trust with anyone and check my post history, you'll see I have always warned people about Ponzis. Even caught Hashie far before it was blown out.

But, I'm asking the people in DefaultTrust, do you think I should argue with a person, whose logical sense is as follows...

Quote
I think that I'm trusted , I'm not a " scammer " or an untrustworthy person .
Cheesy

I don't have alt-accounts , this is my unique forum account . I know it will be difficult for you to trust me , but this is the truth. I also don't like the ponzis, them are ruining the forum image.  However thanks for your opinion , I have nothing to add here .

FYI, Johny Depp's main account is BitCoinDream.

Nice, how'd you figure it out?

redsn0w asked me the same thing, here is what I sent him:

Yes, I can give you my proof if you'd like. As you can see here, a bunch of accounts were registered on April 20th 2014 with names along a similar theme, such as "Bill Gates", "Warren Buffet", "Rupert Murdoch", "Jimmy Vales", and "Johny Depp".

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=318210
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=318219
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=318236
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=318249
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=318262

All made within an hour of each other, they clearly all belong to the same guy. Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch only made 1 post each, both of them being used to help BitCoinDream win a contest for a btc prize. He abandoned them after this, since this was his only use for them and they were linked to him because of those 2 posts. He continued to use the others, including the Johny Depp account. Hope this helps you out.

I think most people will agree that this is pretty conclusive proof.

Oh yeah, most definitely. In fact promote him to admin. Isn't it obvious?

And while we're on the same topic, you better feed me with some positive trust. Or else... you're gonna get it...
Point made. Thanks Smiley

You better give me positive trust right now else I'm going to kill your dog.

Please delete this post and dont threadjack I'd like badbear to see my latest post.

Just PM him if you want him to remove you from his trust list, I doubt he will deny your request.

I want him to see that whole post because quickseller is claiming that I am an alt of those accounts and I'm not (check my trust for reference)

His feedback says you're either an alt or an associate of Plutonium & co. I'm not sure if you're the same person, there isn't conclusive evidence here, but there is good reason to think you were involved in his operations. You made many posts promoting his scheme and left him positive feedback. You also offered to get Plutonium to remove the negative trust he left me, which I'm not sure why you would have done if you didn't have some sort of relationship with him:
O shit, he negged you? Want me to try and get him to remove it?

You should have known you were staking your reputation by endorsing his scam.

I messaged him and convinced him because it wasnt right then he gave you negative trust. Also, I'm not involved or an alt of the bitcoinstocks ponzi, I only supported it because it kept paying me out. I didn't support it when it stopped sending.

Please post that PM here and report it to an admin so they can verify its legitimacy. I believe Quickseller would agree with me that this would be sufficient proof that you are not his alt.

It's becoming a pain since it defeats the purpose of the list if anyone and everyone can request the removal of a person on it. If nothing comes out of the situation (the person in question isn't removed) then there are just a lot of junk threads complaining about this user or that user having more power or 'exploiting' their power over this user and that user. So please, stop complaining about who is on the list. If you really need to sort a situation out, contact the user (either the user you are questioning or want removed) directly. This was quickly written up in a bit of a rage mode, feel free to discuss.

Which recent one has raged u Marco ? If people are added randomly by some people in DefaultTrust, then u want voices against that to be silenced ? Why ?

No specific case, it is just a concern that it may blow up to everyone complaining whenever trust is left by anyone on the default list.

It is worth noting that the two members being discussed right now have both given you positive feedback, it is beneficial for you that they remain in default trust.

Ah the conspiracies begin (I'd imagine pistolpete will show up soon). Anyway, I just noticed that; I hadn't thought about it that way before. I doubt the threads will be closed with the opening of this thread and I wouldn't say it is 'beneficial for me', I wouldn't care much if their feedback no longer gave me 'trust points'. Feel free to think otherwise.

It's not a conspiracy, it's just something anyone should be aware of when considering your opinion on these two cases. I would expect my motives to be challenged as well if I was advocating for redsn0w to stay on default trust, since he left me positive feedback.

You pretty much answered the question yourself with how addressed him.  Roll Eyes Maybe he doesn't want people blaming him like you pretty much just did, there is a reason the account is called "Regrets".
616  Other / Meta / Re: Accuracy down to 98% on: January 15, 2015, 11:07:14 AM
Honestly, that's because most people don't know the rules at all.
I wanted to smack my face against the wall when I saw that topic. I have told, at least, three times in two days that moderates don't moderate stuff like that.

Haha, I feel the same way, although it is understandable people think you should be removing them. This thread really ought to be more prominent. I doubt most people have read it, many don't even know it exists.

By the while, it seems that while i can improve further I'm not the bad I tought myself since i'm above the average for my actual rank.
I'm honestly surprised to see that my report accuracy is higher than the average staff one. Currently 112 posts with 94% accuracy.

I'm surprised the staff accuracy is so low as well, especially considering what a large percentage of reports belong to hilarious. His accuracy is a good deal higher than 88%, I wonder what brings it down so much.

Honestly, I think it is a waste of time to bother moderators about why your report was marked as incorrect. There is a reason most forums don't have this accuracy feature, at least the ones I've been on in the past. Frankly, I have less bad reports than good reports I could've made but didn't out of fear they might be marked as bad. Obviously, this means moderators have to deal with less incorrect reports (I'm at 99% after 82), but overall, I think it is dangerous to the forum for people to shy away from reporting stuff because they think it might drop their accuracy. I'm pretty sure others have done the same thing, or this thread wouldn't be 9 pages long. I suppose percentage is helpful for anyone below 90% or so to let them know that they don't entirely understand the rules, but it becomes pretty redundant above that level.

I don't mind answering them but I'm obviously limited to only seeing infractions/reports on newbies. The rules on what is and isn't allowed here can be tricky and it's helpful to know where you're going wrong but after a while you'll pick up what shouldn't and should be reported.  I PMd BadBear a handful of times before I got made a mod to see where I was going wrong and it helped a lot and saves you wasting your own time reporting stuff that shouldn't be.

Fair enough, I think it is great that the staff are willing to take these requests, I just think it would get tiring if more people sent a PM every time their accuracy dropped.

I am selling my YouTube account, partnered with Machinima currently on a $2 per 1k views contract, one of the few left that has that.

Will this contract still be valid if Machinima finds out the account has been sold? I would imagine selling your account to someone else would be against the terms of the contract.
620  Other / Meta / Re: How does one become a moderator on here? on: January 15, 2015, 06:53:59 AM
Do you have to report a ton of posts?

Do you have to apply?

Are you just selectively chosen?

I see a lot of staff members who are less then a year old here on the forums and only have a couple hundred posts and you see people with thousands of posts, long time trustworthy members and not staff status or ever mentioned being offered such. Just wondering how they are chosen? For example:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=210680

has been here for a year and only 600 posts. Yet staff already??

Having lots of posts or being a prolific trader does not necessarily make someone a good choice to be a staff member. Reports are probably an important factor in being chosen, but I would guess the administration also looks for other characteristics one needs to be a good moderator, such as impartiality and maturity. These take longer to ascertain, but it isn't that unusual that there are staff who have been around for less than a year, I'm sure they were chosen for a good reason.

If you're curious, here is a list of the most active reporters from July of this year, as you can see, most of those near the top are now staff:

In case anyone's interested, here are the people with the most good reports:
