Hi, can you give me a link where to download the latest version for mining xmg? Also, how can I increase the hash rate for mining fast? I deleted those files because i'm getting errors. Thanks for helping.

There are a few miners available (in the 1st page ANN post, a little mess there now). Also I got a handful miner and will post it soon; be sure to check back this thread for downloading link.

...
I have a VPS that I mine XMG on, should I put it out to full power or keep it at 50%?
...
... It's sure no full power running miners on VPS, or vendors (mostly) put a limitation in your service;...

Not sure yet how all this works.

But when I found this question, I was reminded how I limited the CPU usage back in the days, using
apt-get install cpulimit ...
https://github.com/drakoin/LinuxWallet/blob/master/mueminerstart.sh#L14-L19
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=460178.msg10522742#msg10522742
Perhaps that can help you somehow?

Or does XMG itself contain a function to limit the CPU usage?

Thanks for the info. How to adjust the hashrate is very much where we can make improvement in the miner, for optimum hashrate and hence ROI. For now, there is a repo which has the "-e cpu_efficiency" option, for example, -e 60 (%60 CPU):

https://github.com/magi-project/m-cpuminer-v2

I just did precompiled binaries for different os along with a gui frontend, and will post them soon.

The problem at the moment is the current high hashrate, gives no profit. Maybe increasing the max. hashrate limit would increase the profit, but I guess price will also decrease.

There are some missing information about the PoW-hashrate, I'll make a clarification on this in more details.

2nd - is there a way in wallet, to check how much I gained with staking (some kind of Sum)?

Guess several prior posts discussed, unfortunately currently no.

It is hard to find a sum of staking with the present version of the qt wallet.  I added “Total Balance” on the overview page to make it a bit easier but that is not in the main code yet.  Hyperstake does it very well with a “total” showing in the transaction register for any dates and transaction types that are selected.  (You can easily find total stake for any date range with this) I asked presstab if he would mind if I added it to the coins I liked and he was fine with that.  I'll try to add it to my branch on github and perhaps joelao95 will release it into the next update if it works.

I second the congratz on android wallet!  Nice! Smiley

Thanks for the revision, I got the request and will check it out and then merge.

Magi team is testing the android app.  Grin

You're such a teaser!

Hehe, magic is advertising professional of the team, he is skilled at making big impacts; that is tremendous to all, isn't it?

p.s., The app is awesome.

Does POM still apply to today's Magi?

EDIT:

I have a VPS that I mine XMG on, should I put it out to full power or keep it at 50%?
Really confused on how this really works lol.

If you're asking PoM campaign, no; if that is about mining, yes. It's sure no full power running miners on VPS, or vendors (mostly) put a limitation in your service;

1) to get maximum rewards, put as high as possible % of CPU running the miner, since you're not concerning the power consumption;
2) to avoid vendors' restriction or degrading your apps performance, leaving some room for them; as to how much, I am totally unsure.

Simple rule is to maximize the hashrate in the range you can bear with; from time to time, there comes reward wave, the most smart strategy is to minimize mining force at valley and maximize it at the peak.

Does anyone know anything about mining magi on a mac?  I was just telling some new people about magi and realized that I didn't know if sweetspot miner worked on a mac.  Is there a different miner that works on macs?  We should probably work on making a guide for people that use apple.

Checked out your timeline. Any ideas on when you're gonna continue development of the other new features?

Not yet, to be frank, running into some personal stuffs; was involved with the coin stuffs initially (nearly >95% time & efforts), and now have to pay off personal stuffs; do have some ideas & plans but ill need some time. 111magic & all other people around are very good at pushing forward the things, and there're some news coming (to a certain extent individual might be at a trivial role).

Free VPN?  I just ended my free trial of amazon web services (AWS.amazon.com).  The only thing on it was cpuminer to mine magi.  I posted the instructions to compile for linux somewhere on this thread.  The free micro instance gets about 10 khash/sec.  It isn't really worth it because they have something called cpu credits so after you mine for a few hours and use up your free credits it restricts your cpu usage and the hash falls to 1khash/sec.

I didn't try amazon yet, but with google cloud for some time (guess you used it too?); not with 100% but 80-90% CPU with the miner, which gives me 13-16kh/s (2 cores), I am running 4 instances (actually 55kh/s in total), so far no restriction from google (maybe running 100% CPU usage causes their attention, didn't risk that yet). So far, $187 (17 days used $113) or 43 days free trial remaining, ill stop before credit hits zero.

Two questions come to me : how do you know the consumption of your CPUs ? And what is this free Google Cloud ? It can be pretty interesting since it's could mine like my CPUs but 24 hours a day and freely  Smiley !

I measured the current passing through the CPU before and after running the miner, say I(be) and I(af), respectively; also I measure the voltage too, which is V(be) and V(af); certainly, V(be) nearly equals V(af) which is about 110V in US. All measurements are done to obtain the RMS value; so

Power(machine) = I(be) x V(be)
Power(machine+miner) = I(af) x V(af)

You can goog search Google cloud (https://cloud.google.com/) and register, with $300 or two month free trial (need a credit card to register payment - no pay actually happens - make sure cancel it before funds is used up or free trial ends)

When I meaned "how do you know the consumption of your CPUs ?" I meaned : physically how ? With a tool, a software ? If you use a software I could post my values here for my two CPUs  Smiley.

I used a multimeter.  Cheesy

p.s., like this one

https://www.google.com/search?q=multimeter&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS571US571&oq=multimeter&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.656j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8#q=multimeter&tbm=shop

I am aware that people use power meter typically, but I like multimeter which is sensitive to me; like one knows what's going on inside a circuit.

Ideally we would all be mining with a Rasberry Pi and no one would be using more than one

We would all use way less energy and get decent rewards with less environmental impact.

It'll be fine with more than one; the point is that everyone is bound to similar machines (or more happy to use that over the other machines). What if power is free, which is very much the tremendous part of the project.

So if I use this..

"hashrate (kh/s)" : 80.00000000,
    "difficulty" : 1.66700583,
    "difficulty(aver)" : 2.12233496,
    "blockvalue" : 1.61871981,
    "mining (XMG)" : {
        "1 hour" : 0.05114349,
        "1 day" : 1.22744382,
        "1 week" : 8.59210671
..............................

8.59 x 4 = 34.36 XMG...

350 watts running the miner..

here (Quebec canada) according to the kw/h price.. it cost me 18.59CND/month

another calcul..

314CND/BTC
18.59 / 314 = 0.05920382 BTC
current price to buy 0.00004975
0.05920382 / 0.00004975 = 1190.026532.. XMG
minus some fees.. equals to 1187.05146633 XMG!!

SO!.. with 18.59CND/month
mining = 34.36 XMG/month
Buying = 1187.05 XMG/month

I think I'm gonna stop mining and start buying...
anyone want to rent a server dual xeon 8 core 8GB RAM?? Tongue could be more profitable for me!!

The ROI in this case is pretty much unimpressive; based on your calculation, XMG price is better to be at 18.59CND / 34.36 =  0.41 USD/XMG, while the current price is far below that, most of miners should give up.  Grin Well the actual situation won't be that straightforward: 1) the mining return is just estimate, you'll get different values at different time; what's need might be put your rig in a pool and estimate how much mined in a day; the longer period the more accurate. I don't have fist-hand experience right now, but was mining in SuchPool with i5 4670, AMD 8350, a dual core and google cloud mining, with total hashrate of about 210 kh/s or so, and nearly 30 XMG in a day. But that's absolutely about few weeks ago. I am not able to fire up the miners right now, so can't tell how much I can get with these; 2) 350 watts running 80 kh/s absolutely no where efficient and should be stopped I believe. My i5 ran with 72 kh/s with far less power than your case. In contrast, the amd cpu runs much higher. I'll get data when back at home.

I just take a look on my transactions on pom m.. during september I made 5x 100xmg.. running about 230khs.. it far to be 1187xmg and I said 18$ for 80khs... so 230khs cost me a lot more then 18$...

I should recheck the consumption maybe its a lil bit less but as I remember it was 350

I checked my rig data, AMD FX 8350 consumes 140W for 55kh/s (8350 ran with 80kh/s or so before, but is low high now after I moved it to another motherboard; the power consumption is surprise to me); i5 4670 is 60W at ~75Kh/s. The total power consumption (miner + power on the machine):

AMD: 210 W - 55kh/s
i5: 125W - 70kh/s

I guess some people optimizing the miner may have better results. I just fired them up at that time to support SuchPool, with about 210kh/s (AMD, i5, google cloud (free, about 60kh/s or so), due core (with 1 thread)) and total power about 400W (AMD is a monster in this case). I am thinking of getting some i5.

Looking at the diff: https://bchain.info/XMG/diff a recent rising at Oct. 7th; that's something unsure what's making 7th special. It'll be hard for me to argue if one should mine or not (surely I'd like to); here is my philosophy:

Section under:
Quote
Who shall mine nothing?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg9991269#msg9991269

There is no way of hard rule in clarifying the rule, though we can argue efforts to get it rightful.

i7-4790 running at approx. 85 kh/s. Got around 10-15 XMG per day on suchpool 1 week ago. The last days around 2-5 XMG per day.

Make sense.

Look for the hashrate :  https://bauerj.eu/xmg/

It's very high and sometimes even higher -> reward goes to 0.

I hope people are not scared by 0, but that's actually not the case. The block reward would NEVER hit zero according to the exponential reduction with difficult. The value on https://bauerj.eu/xmg/ is most likely less than 1 and was skipped since only integer is shown there; I would also check the block explorer which is pulled out from blocks, for example:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xmg/

Also check with the console:
Code:
getnewblockvaluebynumber 512267
(current block at this time)

{
"flags" : "proof-of-work",
"difficulty" : 1.60428397,
"difficulty-V2" : 2.44375849,
"blockvalue" : 5.91635350
}

And how much you'd get by kH/s hashrate (only estimate):

Code:
getminingbykhps 10
{
"hashrate (kh/s)" : 10.00000000,
"difficulty" : 1.60428397,
"difficulty(aver)" : 1.69167384,
"blockvalue" : 5.91635350,
"mining (XMG)" : {
"1 hour" : 0.02931434,
"1 day" : 0.70354416,
"1 week" : 4.92480911
}
}

p.s., another piece of info:

https://bchain.info/XMG/diff

Looking at the averaged diff indicates a rising around Sep 29th.

For the moment I stopped mining Magi, doesn't make fun watching my balance

I can understand your feeling. I guess there are two things you might take a look.

The actual hashrate changes vastly from time to time; what I see at this time. Averaging the hashrate in a time period will give an accurate value.
[img ]https://i.imgur.com/zKZgngn.png[/img]

The another thing is that the rewards varies with hashrate; for example, right after huge hashrate comes a low-end period and big reward because of the network hashrate vibration or miners leaving, so I suppose that one keeps mining will have a good return, but judgement is on your side. The Sweet Spot Miner is nice used in this situation; you can put target hashrate, CPU usage or target rewards, and then the miner automatically adjusts the hashrate; in a situation, it may run with 0% cpu like stop mining.
The rate is really high at the minute, since I started mining in July I dont think I saw the hash rate at >100MH/s more than a handful of times - but it seems quite common now - I guess Magi is getting popular or somebody is pushing a lot of power at the coin, or people are not reading how to mine efficiently.

That's about right I believe; there was a time about 30 - 40 MH/s sometime ago. The PoW reward has an optimum point of hashrate that produces maximum coins and the optimum point progressively increases over time, allowing a number of miners (suppose to increase over time) joining, when I looked at the block reward that is not that low right now, while I believe there does exist some mining forces that need cares.
