1301  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mtgox: Question for those who sold BTC at the end on: March 02, 2014, 12:56:32 AM
I had about 0.00065 cents in Gox... but here are the reasons...

1. Legally speaking it is easier to get USD/fiat back out of any legal proceedings like Bankruptcy then bitcoins.  Many were trying to get fiat, when everyone is selling the price goes down.

2. The moment gox shut down both fiat and btc with drawls everyone KNEW it was dead, anyone buying Goxbtc were basically betting it wouldn't fail.  The bet was long odds so in order to temp people to make the bet the price had to be very tempting and worth the risk.  Basically people were giving Gox a 15-20% change for not going bust.  Now they think you have a 3% chance ($20 per coin) of getting real BTC/cash out of Gox.

I don't think everyone knew it was dead. Pretty sure everyone who had money in the exchange weren't thinking that. Some may have thought that, but there were many people here still preparing for the deluge of BTC when Gox was coming back. I was one of them. I was trying to figure out to hedge my risk. Also you could have still got decent return on Bitcoin Builder when BTC was $300 and gotten 0.60 back. Of course that's hindsight thinking.
1302  Economy / Speculation / Mtgox: Question for those who sold BTC at the end on: March 01, 2014, 10:47:17 PM
My condolences to everyone who lost money on Mtgox. But I'm still curious as to why the price went from $1000 to $100. For those of you who sold in that range, what was your reasoning for doing that? Was it because you felt it was a safer bet if Mtgox went insolvent or panic selling? It appeared the majority of users here still believed Mtgox was solvent at the time. Again sorry for your loss if you lost any money. Sad

Right now after Mtgox declared bankruptcy, you'd think Mtgox price would be worthless, but it's still selling at around $20 USD.
1303  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 28, 2014, 08:19:52 PM
Do you have any proof of sending 50k to mtgox? This is not speculation is throwing money off the window. You might win, but still it's stupid to do.

Ninja with balls of STEEL I salute you !!!

There is NOT even a date on that page... but I suppose that there will be a correlation with other records... and then within GOX there are a lot of records of various transactions and trandes that may have taken place between the date of the deposit and the date of the closing of the exchange.  HOWEVER, I am confident that ONLY a small portion of GOX customers went through the effort to save those various pages of electronic data (even though there were several weeks in which that saving of pages could have been done (between the time of the discontinuance of withdrawals until the time of the shutting off  of the website)..

Gox went down with his 1200 BTC. He was not seen here since he said how much he lost there. Serious shit.

Some guy reported 4200 BTC Gox loss. Shit.

Actually, even though some people take risks in their investments and their hopes that businesses and persons are acting with  a certain level of integrity, sometimes the risks are kind of anticipated....... ... and like everyone says, the best time to invest is when others are running away from that investment....... .... ...

YES>>> >> the blood of a lot of people will boil... when they read the level of admissions of loss or theft that occurred through GOX....... it is really bullshit and it still does NOT add up... that anything other than fraud was going on at some level..... which actors are responsible??? probably a few people besides Mark...   .. even though the buck stopped with Mark.

Bitcoin Builder claims losses of 8000 BTC + $400K USD.
1304  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 27, 2014, 08:05:54 PM

Are you nuts? I dont give a shit about your "sturle" and your private pussy vendetta you folks in here are producing.

Pussy vendetta? Some long-time members of this community willingly deceived newcomers.

Thats not the point. Plz read what i was responding at.

There is no reason why the average customer at MtGox did some "moral haszard behavior" and therefore deserves to loose his funds.

Its obv another story if somebody bought Goxcoins at a later state in the story and knew the risk he was taking.

In my opinion anyone with funds on Gox knew the risks he was taking. I'll state the obvious again: the writing was on the wall.

In my opinion none of the customers with funds on Gox deserves to loose all his funds. Why should that be so? They didnt stole those funds, did they? Neither did they harm anyone just by depositing BTCs or FIAT at the exchange. Its their money and the obv deserve to get them back.

I certainly agree with that but I don't see how those who bought "goxBTC" on bitcoinbuilder deserve less than those who just had their funds on Gox.

Everybody knew the risks.

Unless you withdrew the Gox BTC back to your Gox account from BB, all that Gox BTC is now with someone who has $400K USD and 8000 Gox coins + whatever deposits came through BB. Josh will be responsible for redistributing funds based on his exchange. Not sure how that will play out but I'm just mentioning it.
1305  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 27, 2014, 02:31:29 AM

Current speculation is that they exist (they are stolen but they still exist). A minority believe the private keys have been lost (in which case they are truly lost and this is super bullish).

Edit: Almost certainly it is one of these two. I highly doubt Gox has the coins.

The third most popular theory is that Mark spent everyone's funds on frappuccinos.
I bet he spent them all on Magic:The Gathering cards.

Those have been a pretty good investment.
1306  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Beware of PayPal and other reversible transfer services on: February 27, 2014, 02:26:43 AM
Ok, then let me clarify it once again: If someone pay you something with paypal, and claim later his account got hacked. You can: call paypal, write a mail to paypal, send a carrier pigion to paypal, send a letter to paypal, drive to paypal and camping outside the building, or whatever you like to do, the result will be the same.

You will lose your money.

Simple as that. Sorry to say it a bit rude...but i don't want that anywho get the idea, there is a way to avoid this or to win a case. That is just time wasting, nobody can win a case against a unauthorized access claim, if the scammer do everything well.

Do you know that PayPal investigate from what IP is used the account... He may write what he want, like in this case that his account got hacked, if they prove that his IP matches as the same from before they won't give him back the money dude. Also if he use proxy it can be easily revealed that he is under proxy protection.

The buyer or hacker can use a local IP address that's not their own and easily fake this.

But there's a much bigger problem. PayPal might be on your side, but the credit card issuer usually is not. I've heard many stories where PayPal ruled in favor of seller just to have it overturned by credit card issuer. They are very superficial investigations. Although you haven't run into a sophisticated scammer, they are out there. You seem like you know what you're doing so you might be fine. But there are lot of sellers where it's easier to tell them to stay away from PayPal and save them the heartache. And when BTC hits $1000, the scams would be even more sophisticated.

I got 2 Apostille Docs that put me back $30 for Mtgox Level 2 verification. Should I bother sending them?  Angry  Grin  Angry  Roll Eyes I want to be ready with big withdrawals when Mtgox comes back.  Cry
1308  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 26, 2014, 10:11:48 PM

Is that yours?
1309  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Beware of PayPal and other reversible transfer services on: February 26, 2014, 08:52:17 PM
There must be some new rules for this section like members will need atleast jr. Member of Full Member status to post in this section because the rate of scam is going up every day ..!

A lot of people are trying to scam nowadays and as you said it's rising from day to day. A lot of scammers. Be aware guys and always use an escrow service.

Or if you deal via PayPal tell them to send the money as goods and then tell them to dispute and then close it. Like this they will be no longer able to chargeback the money.

That doesn't work. You can still claim unauthorized payment. Just because you can't reopen a dispute on PayPal doesn't mean they can't chargeback.

Not only that but PayPal keeps track of how many disputes are open against you. You can get your account closed this way if you do it too many times.

As a n00b, how do we prove ourselves so that we can do a transaction through PayPal?  I mean I've got plenty of eBay feedback to at least prove I'm a honest seller/buyer.
A picture of you with your ID card or Passport in hand could be enough for some seller.

Ok, cool, good to know.  That's easy enough to do.  I'll have to keep that in mind in case anybody ends up having some coins they can sell me.

^This, but I don't want to deal with your personal info. Privacy laws and correct handling of this is too much trouble.

With all the exchanges doing verification, it would be nice if they would lend their services to help you verify your trader is legit. Maybe for a small fee. Probably still get out of hand.

Mtgox BTC still selling for $50 USD! Bitcoinbuilder keeping the ghost of Mtgox alive! Josh actually posted new warnings about Mtgox insolvency that you have to agree to before you can continue trading.

The following guy is just not accepting the reality of the situation here.
2681.47000000   GOX for    0.80000000    ฿ ea.

Just people betting that Gox will be bought out and made whole. You're preaching a the choir of gamblers here.

Price could go up depending on what Mark says during the subpoena.  Smiley

CONFIRMED!

The cat's name is Tibane. He named the fuckin parent company after his cat!

Lol. Which came first, the cat or the company?

Come on. Not a single BTC video? Disappointed, but that recent comment on his video was funny:
"Prepare your anus.  Downvotes are coming."

A friend of mine was running an international software startup many years ago that had distributor relationships with all of the major country markets worldwide and he found out that the french distributors were scheming to double-cross him behind his back with their own product after a lengthy and supposedly trustful relationship. Nothing wrong with honest competition, but they turned out to be the only dishonest (french) distributor group from all of the various distributor relationships worldwide.

Perhaps the fact that Karpeles is french should not be held against him for this particular unrelated incident. But one cannot overlook the fact that perhaps this "leaked" document is part of a very carefully orchestrated strategy to shift blame away from Mark - thus effectively allowing him to pull off the biggest scam in bitcoin history. He knows that he is viewed as incompetent - which gives him the perfect cover excuse with the general media. Incompetence does not imply the lack of extreme self-serving cunning...

If that's the case I think the Internet is savvy enough to trace it back to Mark.
1316  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many BTC's did you have stored at MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 10:56:41 PM
I went from having a few to 20x that amount. Thanks to BB Cheesy
1317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2014, 10:43:55 PM
Am I the only one who thinks that if Gox does come out alive and pay out, that this would be the best thing to happen for Bitcoin? The news would be unbelievably positive.

Its death.. well, its terrible already. It will only get worse if they wont pay out.

Sure for those who have BTC in Gox and those who support BTC no matter the price. But for those who don't have a significant number of Gox coins, they'll have to make another decision whether the arbitrage will decrease the price or increase. I don't want to think about it. So I hedged my risk with Gox coins.
1318  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox Exit/Entrance Speculation on: February 25, 2014, 10:02:09 PM
Would it be legal for the acquisition company to buy up all the cheap coins before trading resumes?

How about declaring bankrupty and paying everyone the last price of $135 USD?
1319  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 25, 2014, 08:00:07 PM

On the other hand, this Facebook page claims to be official and says the draft is fake, but it's got a handful of spelling mistakes:
* https://www.facebook.com/goxbitcoin

There's a goat standing on the mountain the logo on the Facebook page which isn't in the Crisis doc.
There is a goat on the document. See "Part 2".

Thanks didn't notice it since I'm having trouble reading the doc on my computer. Why is there a goat in the logo. I thought that was a joke.
1320  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How many BTC's did you have stored at MtGox? on: February 25, 2014, 07:41:21 PM
4.4plus 1000usd

I would never count the bitcoins worth today, if you have 4.4BTC trapped inside Gox right now they are technically worth the price they were before Gox halted trading the first time, which was about $1000 USD per coin. If people who had hundreds in cold storage at Gox sued Gox they would claim their worth at the higher price and not what the market says they are worth today.

No thats not how justice works idiot.

It is if you sold them at $1000 for tax purposes. You'd be totally screwed by IRS then. But of course all the records were lost too so that might be a way out for some.
