That's really nice work!

Excited about the new Godzilla movie coming out in 2014?

I was excited about the release of Godzilla 1985. The release of Godzilla 2014 does nothing for me.

we will be adding this in the future. Within 2 weeks.

If you are emailing coin.mx please be sure to mention that you heard they have plans to incorporate devcoin into their site and that you are looking forward to this, and grateful for their acknowledgement of the currency.

Thank you.

Done.

I made an account with them and clicked on their live chat to ask someone directly. The person who answered me was named Vinny K and he had the title of help desk manager. I asked him if they had plans to incorporate Devcoins into their trading platform in the near future. His answer was "not anytime in the near future." I guess different workers are giving out different information.

Bittzy78

For what it's worth, here's what they told me via email:

"Thanks for the feedback (name)! Noted. We will also be adding Peercoin, Feathercoin, and dogecoin as well in the upcoming weeks!"

Yep, I guess different employees are giving out different information. We will have to wait and see if they are going to add new coins to their platform in the next couple of weeks. I hope so because if you look at the bottom after you log in, they have over 50,000 members.

Hi everyone, I'm pleased to announce that v2 of the redesigned devcoin.org is now live:

http://devcoin.org
..

Thanks for your great work, you get the final payment of another 36 shares.

Thanks Unthinkingbit, I really enjoyed working on it. I would definitely like to stay around as the Web Admin for devcoin.org, making updates as needed. Also, maybe there are some entirely new Devcoin-related web site projects that I could help with? I read about the forum requirements that tenthirtyone is working on but I'm not really a backend coder - if there is any front end design work or writing that needs to be done for the forum I'd be happy to help.

The site looks great.

Here's a little preview of the android wallet: the exchange rates are working.

We will need translations for both the qt-client and android... I just did the english translations but there are i think 10-15 languages we will need to translate.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/devcoin/files/devcoinj/exchangerates.png/download

Yeah, the site is looking good. I hadn't clicked on the FAQ section with its clickable questions and answers yet and was pleasantly surprised by it. This site is a great foundation for Devcoin going forward.

Very nice...

I am attempting to spread the Devcoin love a little by finding a way to sell on ebay that complies with their terms. I had some success a few days ago selling Devcoins and sending them directly to the buyers wallets, but I found out that I was violating ebay selling policies.

It seems the only way around their rules is to physically send a buyer something in the mail with tracking. So, I am going to try the CEX.IO voucher code route and just send it to my buyers with the code on a certificate.

I think this could serve two fold. It could increase the awareness of Devcoin to people who have never heard of it before on ebay and give an increase in Devcoin deposits and withdrawals on CEX.IO. The increase in overall Devcoin traffic might convince them to allow Devcoin trading.

I am not trying to sell Devcoins to anyone on this forum...just showing everyone what I am up to.

Thanks Bittzy78, I'm glad to hear the swipe function is working.

Well, the mobile version IS the main version of the site - the only difference is that the images from the slider and download page have been removed. None of the images contain any content anyway, they are just there for decorative effect. So no content is lost from the mobile view at all.

It is currently set to only hide images from the smallest viewports (<479px) so iPads and tablets should see the graphics just fine.

lol, I am constantly telling the world just how low tech I am. Smiley

Hi everyone, I'm pleased to announce that v2 of the redesigned devcoin.org is now live:

http://devcoin.org

What's new in V2

  • DVC ticker added to homepage (thanks tenthirtyone)
  • Community link added to top nav (points to this thread for now, I'll change it to point to the new DVC forum when ready)
  • FAQ link added to top nav
  • Made the site ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) compliant
  • Slowed the slider down a bit (anytime the cursor is placed on the slider it will pause as well)
  • Added Javascript to automatically resize slide height based on content (only seen by users with a very small viewport or users who have greatly increased the font size)
  • Various minor text edits and link additions as requested by the community (Note: once the link list on the Spend DVC page becomes too long, I'll categorize the links into tabbed format)
  • Fixed IE8 layout issue
  • Created FAQ page - this was a lot of work as I had to scour through a ton of text from a bunch of different sources and rewrite all of the content into question and answer format... I'd be happy to add more FAQs, I just ask that they be submitted in traditional FAQ format, meaning a single question with a concise and terse answer Smiley

Mobile Enhancements:

  • Added detection for very small viewports (i.e. smartphones). If the site is viewed with a smartphone the images in the slider and on the download page are not displayed due to the lack of space (the images do not contain content, they are merely decorative). I wrote some custom CSS for small viewport devices so the site looks much better on smartphones now.
  • Added swipe detection to slider (Note: the slider does not support swiping by default - I implemented an add-on to make it work though I am unable to test it as I am using an emulator without a touchscreen. Someone please check it with an iPhone and an Android smartphone.)

Questions for the community:

1) http://dvc4giftcards.us/ - as I posted previously, this site is being flagged as malicious by the popular WOT (Web of Trust) plugin:

https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/dvc4giftcards.us?utm_source=addon&utm_content=warn-viewsc

Therefore, I don't think this link should be added until this is cleared up as it could undermine Devcoin's credibility. Does anyone know the owner of this site?

2) Is this wallet:

http://media.andarazoroflove.org/Devcoin-Installer.exe

ready to go or is it still being finalized? Should the link overwrite the current link for "Devcoin Setup Exe Windows32"?

3) Social media links - I can add them in a jiffy but I need to know which Facebook/Twitter/YouTube pages to point to (sounds like there aren't any "official" Devcoin social media pages, just what people are putting up on their own)

That's all for now, let me know what you think Smiley

I just went to Devcoin.org on my iphone 4 and tested the swipe feature. The feature does work fine but runs a little on the slow side. The rest of the site looks like a regular web version of a website that people are used to viewing.

Would it be possible for a link to be on the bottom of the web version of the site that allowed people to return to the main site? It might be helpful for those who have larger cell phones.

Hello everyone,

The forum @ http://162.243.37.115 now bans users from viewing your topics if they are on your ignore list.

Mabtc and I both tested the trollblocking feature, and it worked for both of us. Tenthirtyone gets the 48 share + 6 million devcoin troll blocking award, which is finished.

Awesome!  That's a nice looking forum by the way!

I noticed that when I wasn't logged in I was blocked from viewing any of the threads but when I logged in the blocking was removed. Is the forum supposed to block non-members from seeing the threads or is that just a glitch?

Nice looking forum Smiley

I know that I am very new to this forum but I thought that I would go ahead and throw this out there to anyone who might be interested...

I bought the domain http://www.DevcoinStore.com and have been using my very limited website building skills over the last couple of days to put a website together. It is never going to look very good but it will be more about the products and customer service than a polished website.

I plan on offering products in the following categories..

1. Gift cards - Digital cards sent by email and also physical cards sent in the mail

2. Jewelry - It will mainly be items purchased from other websites and/or made by my wife

3. Computer Stuff - Small easy to ship computer related items such as games, flash drives and small components for computers.

4. Everything else - This section will be everything else that doesn't fit into the other three.

All transactions will be in Devcoins and handled through Coin Payments.

All physical items will be sent with tracking and usually in a bubble mailer. The items to big for a bubble mailer will probably be sent in a small box. I will also only ship physical items with a tracking number.

I only have two gift cards for sale at this time but plan on putting more items up during the next two days that I am off of work. I have attempted to offer some level of transparency by putting my IDs from this forum, Devtome and ebay on the site.

Once again, I have almost no website building skills whatsoever so the site will never look that good. However, I have been on ebay for many years and have a feedback score of over 1200.

I am not looking for a bounty or anything...more like trying to fill a void of where people can spend Devcoins.

That site would look great if it featured a rodeo version of one of the Devcoin logos. Could be a big D with arms and legs (and a cowboy hat of course) trying to lasso himself up some Devcoins.

Sadly, I have no ability to make the logo I just mentioned.

Bittzy78

LOL I a not sure how to take that! Now I may just have to play with making something like that just for the hell of it! LOL

Oh, I was being serious and I think it would make a good bounty fetching mascot for Devcoin.

Hi all,

I have been looking around for ideas to make bounties a bit more organized. A forum is good for open discussion but does not present proposed bounties in an organized fashion. I found bountysource.com. Heard of it?

I have a few ideas on how to tweek this model to make it work with devcoin, but I'd like to get peoples opinions on the feasibilty of actually making a website devoted to devcoin bounties before launch ideas. It would take serious man power to get it off the ground but might help make this opensource project even more open.

I was thinking about putting together a business plan if people show some interest.

I have something in the works for this at the moment. Just thought I would let you know Smiley

That's great. Do you mean that you have a plan in the works that you are writing or actually already putting together the site?

Well, I have started coding, though it isn't going to be as intricate as the "bountysource.com" site. I am mostly putting it together so the bounty admins have a place to track it  and everyone can propose and vote on proposed bounties. Since the admin have to approve a bounty and they have to do things on the back end once a bounty is completed.  I am sure it is going to go through a bunch of iterations, but still I don't foresee it being anything like Bountysource.com since it doesn't quite work that way with devcoin bounties.  I may have a first rev up today, not sure yet Smiley  Will be at http://madrabbitproductions.com/devcoin/

1672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Custom Coin on: January 03, 2014, 09:27:03 PM
That is a very interesting concept, would love to see a mock up.  I would definitely be interested.

Part of the expense is design. I would have to ask the engraver to submit drafts and then submit them to the Devcoin community for comment.

I checked with 3M and a few others for security, but my initial quantity is so low, that I would have to settle with the coin cover with a security strip.

The hurdle that I just can NOT overcome, mostly from markm's comments in other sections, is how to give the buyer the confidence that the wallet and private key are secure. I just don't see a way to guarantee that to the buyer. If I were a scammer, I could potentially just keep all the details and cash it in at any time. Maybe it would have to be a partial key, but then that requires the user to do some work on their end and I want to keep it simple. The value of the metal itself would of course be attractive...silver or gold would have their own value built in, but I'd love to tackle the cold storage plus coin concept. It's very attractive to me in promoting a coin. It wouldn't be Casascius, of course.

If the coins were sold from the Devcoin.org site or something similar like MintedDevcoins.com it could help to oliviate the fears people might have about being scammed.

I think it is a pretty cool idea.

As a side note...

It might be a good idea to not use a precious metal in the manufacture of the coins. Some governments might object to anyone minting a coin and then having others trying to treat it as currency. If the coins was made out of a non-precious metal such as aluminum, I think it would be considered more of a novelty item.

If the coin was viewed as more of a novelty item one could sell them on ebay with a title that goes something like "10000 Devcoin - With Free Novelty Aluminum Devcoin."

1675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devcoin Popping on: January 02, 2014, 09:53:37 PM
Guys, when do you think devcoin could pop, I'm talking $0.10+.

I have been seeing many threads about what coin will pop in 2014 but nobody ever mentions dvc..

As for the price, for it to hit $0.10 people need a reason to buy them, and there is always going to be selective pressure towards more deflationary currencies over this one, because they are, after all, more deflationary - devcoins take this hit in exchange for allowing the philanthropists/advertisers a way in. Assuming maybe 50-80% of the payout is being cashed out each round, people have to be buying 100M-160M coins from the market with cash or another cryptocurrency every month. This means it needs an in-flow of cash around $10-$20M per month to support everyone selling the coins they earned @ $0.10. That doesn't sound impossible to me, especially if the seriously rich philanthropists who strongly believe in FOSS decide to back it. For it to get there, we need to give people amazing stuff that they just can't get enough of. That means great writing, great media, great software, great websites, etc, and if http://www.devtome.com and it's ilk become as popular as something like wikipedia I don't see why it won't disconnect from the value of other cryptocurrencies and take its own life - the price could very well be $1/coin in 3-10 years time.

I think that as Devtome continues to grow, it will need to find new ways to grow it's advertising revenue as well. If you look at a site like Baseball-Reference.com they allow people to purchse page sponsorships. The cost of the sponsorship is wholly based on the popularity of the page.

For example.. The page I used in the link of Chipper Jones would cost more to advertise on than the page of Ozzie Guillen. Devtome could be done in the same manor based on page popularity.

If the site gets an explosion of advertising revenue over the next year and the money is used to purchase Devcoin from the exchanges. It could result in an explosion of buying pressure for Devcoin.

Ok I couldn't find any direct calls in the API to do just this, nor a bot, so I wrote one with the support of a wrapper I modified from github (link in file).

https://github.com/hunterbunter/vircurex-python-shotgunbot

Once this has been tested, and there are no objections, you will receive your bounty (24 shares)

I suggest a bounty of 3 shares then 2 shares for a testing report on this bot, any objections?

Hi, I guess I'd like to collect a bounty for the DVC/USD price chart.
dvcticker.info

You get 9 shares for your chart!

I also would like to claim 12 shares based on my article located here:  http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=plan_for_investing_in_group_buys , of course that is if there are no objections.

You will receive 12 shares for your plan.   (it is the second investment plan)

Bittzy will get 12 shares for the Peer-to-Peer Lending idea, which is the third investment plan

I've also posted a business/investment plan on Devtome re. http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now#investment_business_plan

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=development_exchange

Feel free to rip into and criticise it.

You receive 12 shares for your plan.  There is one investment plan bounty remaining for 12 shares, and then the next five will be six shares.

Hello!  I would like to present to all, my button!:

for your viewing pleasure

Athanasios gets 1/5 of a share for his button.  Congrats on your first bounty, Thanos!

Hey guys,

I've added a "User Payments by Round" section to http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/ which some of you might be interested in.

You put in a name (case sensitive - must match account.csv files) and the round you're interested in and it'll come up with the share tally for that round and the links to all the relevant pages if they exist. From a personal perspective, it's an easy way to see how many shares you can expect towards the end of a round / start of of a payment block without having to trawl through the receiver files manually.

If you just put the round number in without a name, it'll come up with all the shares for that block - missing the bitcoin and devcoin share lists, because they were labelled differently to the others and I'm too tired now to figure out how to include them (Unthinkingbit - any chance you can put a 1-BitcoinShareList or something for the share list peeps in the account files? The idea is just to make it a bit easier to find stats on specific users, and I spent all day on it and I'm tired now so it probably has a few bugs in it still. If you find any tell me what you entered and I'll try to fix. If it stops you from using the site clear your cookie for it and it should let you mess around again.

There wasn't a bounty for this; I just thought it was interesting, although I didn't realize how long It'd take me. Is it too late to propose one for it?  Cheesy

I entered my Devtome username and it worked correctly.

Very cool...
1679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: January 01, 2014, 04:02:12 AM
Where is that site that shows payout information like how much a share is worth this round etc? Shouldnt this info be on our website under "Earnings and Payouts"Huh
http://d.evco.in/charity/

No after many googlw searches found it:

http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/

I suggest we add this info to the new devcoin website under earnings and payouts.

Also we should try to integrate the dvc usd ticker intothe website somewhere too..

http://dvcusdchart.blisteringdevelopers.com/

Neither of those links work. The charity link is where the receiver files generated from the python script go. At least I think so. Someone can correct me of I am wrong.

My DNS host had a brief outage earlier which caused the names to not resolve (across all mine and other's sites). The site is up again now.

I know that it is just a simple download to check the receiver files on a daily basis but does anyone think a daily updated blog would be a good idea? It could be used to make the receiver file information a little less "tech" looking for newbies. I was just thinking this because the information in the file is freely available to the public anyways.

Is there anything you want from there that isn't coins per share? Like breakdown by group (bounties / devtome / admin / marketing etc)? I'm already getting the account file, so I could probably put the breakdown in too...although that might start cluttering the page up a little bit.

I think people would rather see a simple HTML table that is dynamically updated everyday (draw people to the site) than parse some random csv file and try to extract statistics in their head. How do you know how much each share is worth, where is that written in the charity folder? How do you know how much time there is left to apply for shares for the next round?

I do that now on the devcoin countdown - http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com - there's an estimate on the coins/share for the active round (based on one of the daily updated account.csv from d.evco.in/charity/). I could do it from the receiver file, but it's basically the same. The only thing is it's not dynamically updated on devtome itself, but would a link suffice if it can't be done dynamically on devtome?

I am used to looking at the files now and it isn't a problem for me to read them anymore. I was just thinking about how newer people might be frustrated by reading it because it looks like a bunch of computer data.

At a later date, it might be interesting to see all of the share data populated on each persons Devtome account when logged in.
