501  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox bitcoin withdrawal delay >:( on: November 15, 2013, 12:46:32 PM
I transferred (with no transaction fee) 1 BTC from Mt.Gox a few hours ago.  The transaction showed up within a couple of minutes, and it confirmed as expected.  There was no unreasonable delay at all.

+1 I get 2.4 BTC yesterday, and It was less than 10 seconds to see it on blockchain. I think this problem is solved except for the people affected a few days ago.

Congrats to you too! Would you also consider to answer the poll I placed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=332420.0

It's for anyone that has a Gox account - verified or not.

503  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: November 15, 2013, 07:33:11 AM
Money stuck in exchanges keeps the Bitcoin price artificially high. If Mt.Gox ever processes all withdrawals, more people will convert to fiat to get their money out. So prepare for a price drop when they do.
It might also increase trust in bitcoin and the ecosystem, which could lead to another run-up.
Mt. Gox is almost irrelevant to Bitcoin at this point. Since they're not paying out USD (at all) or EUR (much), and only an idiot would deposit there, most of the "volume" there has to be the same money sloshing back and forth within Mt. Gox.

Your illustration made me laugh. It's sad, but true. Last night I was chatting with a friend about this. And it dawned on me that it's like people are all excited about trading, but they can't get out. It's just like a bunch of rats racing around in circles inside an empty cage or something. It was so ridiculous, it made me laugh then too.
504  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why doesn't anyone use CampBX? on: November 15, 2013, 07:29:29 AM
It's a US-based company where you can still anonymously buy bitcoins (up to $1000 per day).  Their price is low so you can get them cheap.  They are opening ACH transfers this month.

But their volume continues to dwindle down to zero.  What am I missing that people would prefer to get their money tied up on Gox instead?

Perhaps, the answer is built into your question. Those people's money are still tied-up in MtGox.
505  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox withdraw 5% fee? on: November 15, 2013, 07:23:41 AM
Maybe it would be faster to open up a Japanese bank account and ask for yen. I hear some people are (sometimes) getting one day turn-around's. I think the bank Gox uses is JapanNet or something like that. I was reading over a white paper last night about it. They seem to be a virtual bank - no physical branches. So, I'd guess one can sign up for a bank account with them online. But the bank website looks like it is only in Japanese. Someone that could get one day turn-around's from Gox could do some seriously profitable arbitrage trading over the market by opening a second exchange account on maybe Bitstamp - if all the fee's don't make it too profit resistant.
506  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox withdraw 5% fee? on: November 15, 2013, 07:16:53 AM
I been reading about a 5% fee if you wish to withdraw USD faster?

How do I do this?

I'd rather lose 5% than lose 100%.

Sounds like you have a verified account. Can't you just convert to bitcoin and withdraw bitcoin?

Already made the USD withdraw request over a month ago. Not living in the US though.

So I guess either wait more if they are even processing anything at all, or try to email them about the 5% extortion option.

I see. What country are you located in?
507  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox withdraw horror on: November 15, 2013, 07:16:03 AM
Hi Board,

it seems I got goxed Sad I asked for a BTC withdrawal a couple of days ago which had non standard inputs and was never really processed. Then 32h later the biggest input was double spend as you can see on blockchain.info and consequently my transaction was dropped and my address remains virgin.

MtGox support was telling me to wait for the transaction to be confirmed and then replied
Quote
Thank you for the email. On checking, we see that the transaction has been processed form our end and must have reflected in the account. Please check the link below for confirmation.

Please contact us for further inquiries.

The second transaction is the double spend and the first transaction is how the funds got into the double spending address. The destination is obviously not my address. I reopened the issue. At the moment I still believe that I will get my coins eventually. Support is just slow and with the weekend approaching it seems that I will have to wait till next week ... Sad

Sorry to hear about your frustration. I hope it works out. I started a thread after getting gox'd in another way. Sad to see such inconsideration. MtGox is apparently the BFL of bitcoin exchanges.

I'd give them their 5% extortion fee if they would simply allow me to have my bitcoins back.

I too have a small amount stuck in there. Fuck you gox

I wonder if there is anyone that reads this thread that has an MtGox account they can withdraw from. I'll put up a survey at the top.
511  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 15, 2013, 06:30:21 AM
JFYI on difficulty. For whoever cares. Last eight difficulty percentage increase, and next estimated difficulty:

29%
32%
29%
32%
27%
41%
46%
30%
12% <-- based on estimated difficulty from bitcoincharts.com

If true, we might see a well reduced jump in difficulty. That would be nice.   Smiley

Is there a list of people wanting to buy/sell yet?

There's a whole thread for it.....

grnbrg.

Thanks.

From there. Rule #6 reads [with my bold emphasis]: "6.  Buyer sends BTC to the escrow address.  Once the coins are received in escrow, the manual trading fee of 0.5% or 0.025BTC, whichever is greater, will be deducted from the escrow address."

Just to put this in perspective. BTC0.025 = $10 ... That seems a fair deal for the labor to verify a transaction.

Why would LR et.al. charge more for larger buy/sell transactions? We should be of one mind on this, and working together more - especially for those that actually funded the company. Isn't that profiteering in the face other's difficulty? With this fee structure, LR et.al. would have no great incentive to find an automated & free solution. I apologize if this sounds trivial, but the principle matters. Plus, I saw some hefty transactions on the asks on there (e.g. 500@0.20). If that got filled, LR or whoever would be paid  equivalent of $200 to do for that person no more than was done for another at a cost of $10. Just saying - principle matters. Unless, the escrow person see's it as a risk on his part to handle that amount of bitcoin.

Regarding escrow. It might be late in the game to comment on this (not sure if suggestions were taken), but instead of doing escrow, why not just use the blockchain to verify the transaction between the two parties (buyer and seller)? That would cut out a step, and reduce the risk of the escrow handler sending the wrong amount or sending to the wrong address. All liability would rest on the buyer & seller. All you would have to do is verify a message & the blockchain, then update the ledger/list if those pass verification.

double spend is an attack to the bitcoin network. What are you referring to ? There is no such thing in that link.

It wasn't a response to anyone about double spending. I posted that for general reading on MtGox. Yet, I think the earlier question about solvency was what triggered me to link it.

I have a great idea! Thank me later. LR should keep withholding dividends to pay for new hardware until the end of 2014...maybe even 2015. Think of how much hashing power your bonds will be representing. By that time, you will realize the genius of it, and refuse dividends in lieu of more hardware. It's tough being a mastermind sometimes...again, thank me later.    Cheesy
516  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 14, 2013, 10:10:41 PM
It really doesn't seem fair that we have to wait until all of the equipment is received before we receive any benefit.  Some of it has likely been set up and hashing for weeks now.  We should start receiving dividends from new equipment 2 weeks after it is put online and starts hashing.  Just because it is not all in doesn't mean we should have to wait longer for dividends from the equipment that is already in.

I have to agree with you, at least in one sense, that the understanding was that each hardware would be committed to 2 weeks of hashing for buying new hardware. And not contingent upon a whole bunch of other hardware. So, in that sense, if that is LR's intention, it is different than what he communicated or at least what I understood from the communication. It's evidence perhaps that LR's re-investment strategy (a fraction of the 25% deduction) was not sustainable.  The only bright side to this is that it should lead to higher hash rates - whether it will have disproportionately surpassed difficulty to be worth it is another question. However, the bitcoin price is helping a lot though. By nearly tripling in price since most bought into LRM, it means the 25% re-investment is equivalent to 75% re-investment compared to the original investment climate (keeping in mind that hardware costs track fiat/dollars, not bitcoins) - anyone correct me on that if it is a faulty analysis.

Please no more anti-gox spam.

Though I can appreciate a possible frustration with the topic from you. You call it spam, but people affected by MtGox negatively don't see it that way. Perhaps, you are a successful customer of theirs, some kind of advocate for them or just bored with the topic. Freedom of expression against a large exchanges harmful practices is not spam. The easy fix, for your concern, is don't read threads with subject headings in which you aren't interested (e.g. those with capitalized MTGOX).

What's the most popular alternative to Mt.Gox?

I really hate Mt.Gox...
it has horrible trading engine lag, traps people's funds, takes AGES to withdraw anything.

bitstamp, they are very professional compared to mtgox cowboy attitude
hmm.. i guess i'll give it a shot

i'm starting to think it's better to just buy/sell BTC in person

Yeah, that is seeming to be more and more true. It's hard to beat the corporate mentality.

That MtGox would freeze an account for fear of AML (anti-money laundering) when the account can't even launder fiat money makes just zero sense. If you put bitcoin in and take it out, you still just end up with bitcoin - no fiat was laundered. And if they are fearing people will use the exchange to obfuscate the history of bitcoin transactions, then that defies common sense. Why ? Other than that who cares, you can obfuscate your bitcoins anyway with easier things like easywallet or bitfog... and apparently dark wallet (coming soon)...and other methods. So, AML really should have no affect any bitcoin-only withdrawals and deposits to accounts.
