101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Expectations of Ethereum on: January 04, 2017, 07:02:56 AM
ATH was $15-$18?  I wouldn't get too excited until it surpasses that.  Same with Bitcoin's old all-time high of $1250.  I'm sticking to my belief the public won't forgive a transgression like MtGox and DAO.

Is NEM the Soviet Union year before Sputnik or Soviet Union in 1991?   Huh  Roll Eyes  Shocked  Shocked

Japan does have some real world adoption of crypto.  Back in 2015, Mona was then the #1 alternate and people were using it to purchase real estate, restaurant meals and gifts.  XEM is now the #1 alternate in Japan and I had seen Twitter images so far of people spending it to buy food, liquor and other goods.  So there is some real world adoption happening.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto profit of the 2016 - Final version on: January 02, 2017, 09:56:11 AM
Looks like it was a close race for the top 3.  NEM could had taken #1 if it had stayed above $45 million mktcap.  PotCoin could had won too with a little bit more mktcap, too.

I'll believe the adoption of PoS when it happens.

I think Ethereum was originally meant to be an alternative mechanism but folded to the PoW crowd, due to the capital and hobbyists involved.  What you see from the alternative mechanism coins is they don't get much popularity, if any at all.

Higher the price the more likely there will be a Black Swan event.  I suspect many of the biggest exchanges are fractional reserves and there isn't enough BTC to meet the demands of depositors if they withdraw to cash out.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 29, 2016, 06:22:15 AM
NEM's great but for whatever reason after all this time it's still pretty much invisible to the majority. This thread can go for 12 hours without a response, the Reddit sub has had one thread in a month, pretty much the only TXs are node payouts, the android wallet has had 100 downloads.

With all that in mind I don't think anyone should expect anything when it comes to price in the shortish term. I'm surprised it held up for so long. Its day will certainly come, I can't think of anything else that's as well rounded, but right now it could go down plenty further for no particular reason. If that happens then I'll pick up some more but I'll be doing it with a 5 year plus mindset.

There's not 2 non-crypto-nerd humans on this planet, within shouting distance, who know about an alternate - otherwise no one would had adopted dumb names like Ethereum or Monero.  You're painting a brush on XEM which could be painted to any alternative.

Besides that Gems thing had over 100,000 downloads and today it's dead.

Clearly this shows to me NEM has fundamentally strong economics if it can be in the top 10 with a smaller user base.  The other cryptos seem to be ponzi schemes which need a regular large flow of new users or they burn out.  This is expected when all the coins utilize inflation to enrich their founder oligarchs.

RIP NEM

Even a small Dolphin can kill NEM.  All it takes is dumping 5 million XEM.   Shocked

Better reconsider dude because politics is everywhere including your own home.
he might not be moving from US because of political reasons alone ,he would have found that it is more cheap and inexpensive to live in a third world country and being a US citizen have its perks in a third world country i guess. Good luck

I agree, being white increases the chance to get laid with hot young women. LMAO

It is the $$ what makes you hot in the 3rd world.

Only for the Pay 4 Play (prostitution) scene.

RooshV forums is full of guys who goto places like Colombia and Ukraine, and in almost all circumstances they would had been better off staying home.  Language barrier is usually too strong for local women to care.

Besides you overestimate the power of being white.  There's been at least 2 decades of "Fat Ugly Americans" and "obnoxious drunk Brits" to make white people look shit.

113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worst ICO ever? on: December 16, 2016, 07:57:43 PM
ICOs which raised massive amounts.  Waves collected like $20 million - will people ever see 100% return?  Probably not.

ICOs which raise anything more than $500,000.  Coins usually do not go up much on CMC.  Even then, you're risking money for a potential 1x-10x return?  Early Bitcoiners saw something like 800,000x return per dollar invested at the beginning.   Another topic but the best ICOs were the ones that collected less than 100 BTC but offered potential.

ICOs for projects which involve pegging.  Pretty much amounts to giving your money away.

ICOs for projects with massive PoWs.

Of course worst ICOs are the ones where the owners run off with the money and you get nothing.  Cheesy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't catapult basically a rebuild of mijin with more features added, written in C++
I'm all for this coin and hope it does well, but maybe you guys can answer some questions since we've got some downtime in here.

Mijin came out, and while it was a tech advancement and a great thing, it failed to raise much interest or movement in the market.
So why are expectations sky high when it comes to the release of catapult? Do you guys really think it will send NEM into the stratosphere once that feature is released?
What makes you all think that, other than hope that this coin does well?

Not trying to troll, I'm genuinely interested in the responses as to WHY you all think we will see some serious movement and widespread acceptance.
NEM is technically superior to everything out there, of that there is no doubt. But the market doesn't always go with the superior product..

That's because the easiest way to respond to a criticism is to yell: "TROLL!".

If we're supposed to be excited by 1000s of TPS then NEM is hardly the first to achieve that.  Ripple, BitShares and a bunch of other projects are reputedly fast.  I think NEM has the best security in blockchain but people don't care about the security enhancements coming out of Catapult.

IMHO - the prospects for this project don't look good unless

1. Poloniex bosses add margin trading to NEM.

2. Viral adoption in either Malaysia or Japan.   NEM.io only ever hit like maybe top 3000 in Malaysia and top 20,000 in Japan.  I think you need to be a top 200 website.

3. Continue to get more companies and banks embrace NEM, but as we had seen in Bitcoin's case putting the cart (merchant adoption) before the horse (ordinary person adoption) doesn't necessarily work out.

Well I think it's all bullshit.  There's no way a poor economy like the Philippines could support that many drug dealers.

It's just a war on young, age 20 - 35, men who are underemployed / loitering and people probably assume they're drug dealers for not working.  Also I bet the mentally ill and/or invalids are being killed too.
116  Other / Archival / Re: I'm really leaving the U.S. for a 3rd world country because of politics on: December 15, 2016, 04:20:32 AM
Before the election results came out, a lot of celebrities had declared that they will be immigrating to other countries (especially Canada and Mexico), if Trump becomes the President of the United States. Almost one month has passed since he won the elections, and none of the celebrities have renounced their American passports.

noone will never leave ...all these celebrities can only live is usa..they will never leave usa...

Yeah USA is the worse place on earth
until you go to any other country.

Interestingly - I saw a list of countries with the most America expats and Italy was #1 on the list.  Italy is where the American elites like going, I think, although not all Americans there are rich (Amanda Knox today is living in a trailer park).

I have been to countless countries around the world and I can tell you a lot of the universal problems.  Nice hotels isn't the problem - it's usually just the plain lack of good services.  I would be surprised if anyone can offer better services than Socal.  I can get good sushi on the west coast but what kind can I get in Budapest or Tallinn?  Ditto

Nutildah

All my reading so far has implied there's plenty of work for illegal english gigs.  Pretty sure you won't go destitute unless you're lazy or in an area with no one willing to learn English.

Still teaching English is a dead end.  I would focus on technology or some other lucrative side gig.

What's that island that Roger Ver tried to get his citizenship?  St. Kitts?  They have a Hilton and a KFC - the 2 things a celebrity in exile needs.  Grin

Psychopath much? I guess he enjoyed it, why else would he personally kill when he has an army to do his bidding.

I was right, he is crazy and will continue crazy shit long after all the drug dealers and users are dead.

"Mr Duterte has repeatedly said he does not care about human rights and has suggested that lawyers defending drug suspects might also be targeted in his campaign"

So now lawyers are gonna start getting killed.. hmm.. not far off from his opposition getting killed. That could be next.
I think that since he confessed to killing people without a trial, his fate is sealed. He'll end up or how Gaddafi or executed after the trial in the Hague.

That's not how Gaddafi died.  Gaddafi's convoy was hit and he was later sodomized (butt sex0r?) to death.

Duterte only has a problem when he is eventually forced into exile and only if he picks the wrong country.  There's usually some Latin American or African country who'll take exiled Heads of States...

I doubt that anyone would agree to surrender his American passport, but that's not it. The fact that a very large number of people do not support policies Trump will bring more tension in the society.

The irony is there is NOT a single celebrity who can't afford a country like Mexico.  Mexico only wants something like $130,000 USD to get an investor visa, which grants you permanent residency and citizenship after 5 years - IIRC.

I'm sure there could be 1000s and 10,000s of Americans who left America just because of Trump, but how many get naturalized or born each year?  How many unemployed college graduates get churned out every semester?  Ditto.
