Well I am going to hold on to the hope that the dev is going to come on here and tell us all that we are wrong and that in fact SMAC is still moving full steam ahead with the road map.
I just can't bare the thought that I am a bag holder....
Sadly it seems they no longer give a shit. If they did they would have been active long before now.

I am trying really hard to be positive here guys but it's hard to be positive when I am essentially talking to myself on here.....
Exactly. The newsletter answered no questions and the team won't talk directly anymore. The new buyback is less than 1 BTC. The marketplace (which we were assured was being worked on) seems to have been completely forgotten. Even if it launched today who would use it? - nobody knows about SMAC anyway and the team don't seem to be interested in spreading the word about it. Burning buyback coins won't make a difference if nobody wants to buy the coins or thinks they have any inherent value anyway. I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but it's really hard not to think that the team has abandoned this.

Well the 28th has come and gone here. It's after midnight but still no newsletter, no news, nothing. After the piss poor communication we've had of late this is just insulting.

Hi Penn.3D
If you go back a few monts, you will see that i congratulated them with the 7 stars, its up to them to do this kind of stuff, in my opinion there is also a lot more they can do on marketing.. i am really curious what the marketplace is good for because marketing is clearly a waek point here! still like the idea but this is like a one way road, and i really dont think that has something to do with the community...
Very true. As I have said before the poor communication from the team and the inability to market SMAC is of real concern. It doesn't matter what the business model of the coin is, if you fail on these two fronts you will get nowhere. The fact that we have as close to zero volume as you can get is proof of this. Given that SMAC is based on advertising which involves communication/marketing it is all the more surprising that the team has done so poorly in these regards. The lack of communication in recent weeks or indeed any kind of direction is almost unforgivable. Given the scarcity of updates and the briefness of the rare ones we have had I get the distinct impression that the team members have lost interest in this or have run out of ideas, maybe both. I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets this impression and I wonder how many people would have been put off investing purely by seeing the lack of activity here. I hope the newsletter brings some more positive news but to be blunt it will have to to do something pretty amazing to stop this sinking. Sorry to be so negative but I think it is time for a reality check as there is only so long that a cryptocurrency can survive on zero volume. It is possible to save this but we need something to be done now.

As repulsive as ktfutura's posts are, he might be right about burning coins. This would only apply to coins that the team buys going forward and would not apply to coins that the team currently owns.
The reason is that unless bought coins are burned, people can claim that the dev team is simply buying their own sells and the team would have no way to prove otherwise. I also think that buying and burning coins would generate huge interest in SMAC.
Maybe there is another way to prove to people that the team is not buying their own sells but I don't know what it is.
On another note, it has been over 3 weeks since we were told "Expect a newsletter in the coming days."
I have been one of the most vocal and supportive community members and I have to say this near month of silence from the dev team really sends us all the message that you either don't give a shit about us or that this project is dead and you don't want to come on here and tell us that.
I would personally much prefer that you come on here and tell us that the project is dead rather than force us to endure week after week of torturous silence as you have been doing.
I invested a lot of money in this project and I feel the least you can do is just be honest with us and communicate, even if what you have to say is bad news.
I agree 100% with what you say.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the idea is that the marketplace is how we are going to get volume and interest in SMAC. In other words I'm pretty sure the team does not expect any volume until after the marketplace is unveiled.
I don't see how just having a market will create volume if nobody knows about it - it would just be an extra feature for a cryptocurrency which hardly anyone knows about. It might have given some momentum if it had it launched on time but the delay (which wasn't helped by the team going completely silent) means that SMAC could be delisted by the time that happens. Even if the market magically launches tomorrow there needs to be some kind of plan to actually get the word out and raise interest or nobody will use it. I can't be the only who sees the irony of not being able to successfully spread awareness of a coin that is based on selling the ability to spread awareness of other products! If I have a product that I want advertised why would I use the SMAC team to do it if they have been unable to successfully advertise their own product i.e. SMAC - I think this really needs to be thought about before moving forward. The idea of advertising on social media may be great but it will all be for nothing if the team are unable to demonstrate any traditional, real world marketing skills. It is just as easy for someone who does have real marketing skills to come along, steal the idea and cash in and that would be a shame for those of us who supported this project from the beginning.

We are still here and working on the marketplace as promised...
Sadly that may be in vain -without any demand and hence exchange volume this will get delisted and die. Real development and progress take time but in the crypto world it's very easy to get left behind and forgotten. For a coin that is supposed to be based on marketing/advertising this side of things has been quite disappointing because we have had successful buybacks yet still nobody seems to be interested. So whilst the mechanics of the social media advertising part of the coin are working OK the marketing of SMAC itself is lacking. I can't see an easy solution. The only thing I can suggest is that the team try to focus at least an equal amount of time on spreading the word about SMAC, creating demand and buzz as much as working on actual behind the scenes development. I know it sucks but in the crypto world image and impression matters a lot. Indeed it might be best to make marketing SMAC the primary focus at least until it becomes established. As to how exactly to accomplish greater marketing of SMAC I'm at a bit of a loss for ideas -maybe others in the community have some suggestions?

Sorry if this has been addressed before but is there a tutorial or instructions somewhere on how to backup your NEOS wallet? Thanks in advance:)
Backups are handled for you automatically every 24 hours and are located in your data directory. Which system are you running? Best regards, syntaks OS X/ Safari. I'm not sure where the data directory is though. That would be in /Users/your-user-name/.neos/neos-data/backups - let me know if you need anything else moving forward. =) Thanks tempus & twoturtles

Reposting just to be sure my post isn't overlooked ;-) I'm getting a little worried about the low trading volume. I would happily put up a sell wall and then buy into it, but at the moment I don't have any free btc. Can someone here with some free btc buy a few of their own sells until the team comes out with an update that brings some buy support? I just hate the thought of being constantly threatened with delisting..... Speaking of updates, I know it's annoying when community members ask for updates so I won't ask. I'll just say I'm VERY anxiously awaiting the next newsletter lol Agreed I'd like to buy more but have no BTC left. This is why getting the word out is so vital. If more people knew about the coin then volume would not be a problem. That's why I think the team should consider avenues like podcasts and interviews now rather than when things like the marketplace are ready (after all they could always do more publicity after those things are ready). Also am wondering if the team has an ETA on new wallets?

wurstgelee and I are activley working on this as we speak.
The blocks stopped as the staking days have changed. This was an older push so it seems the wallets when were built did not include our latest code update when they compiled. We are testing a few more calculations as well and making sure everything is set. Keep an eye out for updated wallets and changes.
Don't worry, we are currently working on this right now.
Thanks for the update, am sure you will get it sorted:)

My (windows) wallet is still out of sync and saying there are no new blocks since yesterday if it helps at all:
Current number of blocks: 95040 Estimated total blocks: 95040 Last block time: Mon May 11 09:47:35 2015

Is anyone else's wallet out of sync? Mine has been for several hours - seems there have been no new blocks for about 11 hours.
same problem here working fine for me, last block was like 45 mins ago. Still not synching for me so I'll try deleting and doing it from scratch.

I will give you thats at least a novel idea, but is artificial price stimulation a replacement for utility?
It would be in the short term certainly and that also assumes that SMAC would have to act as a currency like the dollar or euro rather than a financial instrument. Another way of looking at it is that SMAC allows holders to be payed back without issuing dividends making it similar in some ways to shares without the legal/regulation headaches that that entails. Shares themselves don't have much utility either. I can envisage a future where shares could be replaced by cryptocurrencies.

SMAC (Social Media Advertising Coin) uses social media accounts to raise advertising revenue and then buy back coins at the market rate to facilitate growth in value. The first buyback (about 6 BTC) has already occurred successfully and resulted in a near doubling of the value. With only about 600,000 coins in total this is set to skyrocket as more and more buybacks occur. Coins which are purchased during buybacks will NOT be resold and instead will be redistributed to those who are holding them. This combined with the usual advantages of a cryptocurrency allows SMAC to become a unique financial tool and investment opportunity. The team has put together a simple video that explains the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=10&v=KcVEIdkIfqY The main bitcointalk thread is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=952083.0 Official website is here: http://www.smac.io/

Agreed. Excellent work from the team. The video gets it just right and explains the important things, how cryptocurriencies work and importantly what makes SMAC more than just a regular cryptocurrency without getting too complicated. I've made a Reddit post with links to the video and a little summary (here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/35aqyp/smac_is_a_different_kind_of_cryptocurrency_here/) - feel free to copy and repost elsewhere if anyone wants to - I posted it to the most obvious subreddit for me but I don't use reddit much, and there may be other better places to put the info. I found this thread via your reddit post. Likely the cool reception you get on r/cryptocurrency is due to most members there being sick of any mention of social media connected to cryptocurrency. Blame reddcoin. Anyway I will have a look at this thread and see what it is all about. Great! Welcome to SMAC:)
